  The context menu in Windows provides a convenient place to start programs, access websites, and open folders. There are several ways to add programs to the menu including a registry method and a free tool. We’ve found another free tool, called Right Click Context Menu Adder, that allows you to add more than just programs to the desktop context menu and the folders context menu. It allows you to add folders, web addresses, and files to the menus, as well as programs. Right Click Context Menu Adder is portable and doesn’t need to be installed. To run it, simply extract the .zip file you downloaded (see the link at the end of this article) and double-click on the .exe file. • Is it a good approach to rely on 3rd party software ( not library )?

  We have program using a call to a winzip program or 7zip commandline tool to zip some files. Once I accidentally uninstall winzip on my computer and making one of our program( created by the programmer already left ) crashed. So we cannot uninstall the winzip program. Now I've come to a point which I need to decide a external tool for gzip in windows or I make a java program which I can call to gzip the file. Obviously a external tool such as 7z is convenient and we can avoid some extra coding with java. On the contrary, if 7z is uninstalled accidentally, our program will crash. What do you think?

  How to do a grep in a variable? I have stored the wget output in a variable and I need to extract out some strings from it. Like the content of the variable is upgrade http://wordpress.org/download/ http://wordpress.org/wordpress-3.0.5.zip 3.0.5 en_US 4.3 4.1.2 I need to check if the string contains the word upgrade, so I can do a simple grep and then check the exit status of it by $? and proceed. But how can I get the value 3.0.5 which is actually the fourth word? And how to actually grep in a variable?

• Testing Git competence

  I hire a lot of programmers for tiny tasks. I very clearly specify that the tasks can only be completed by making a pull request on GitHub. Unfortunatelly, so many programmers do not know Git and often the programmers cannot complete the project due to not understanding/being willing to learn Git, even after they have undertaken the programming of the task. This is bad both for me and for the programmers. Sometimes I end up arguing for why it is inefficient that they just send me a zip file containing the code. Therefore, I am looking for an online service to certify that the programmers know how to make a pull request so I do not waste their nor my time. The certificate should be free for the coders, but may cost me. It is important that the course just focuses on exactly what is needed to make a clean pull request so it should not take more than 5 minutes to go through. Does such a thing exist?

• Yet another GlassFish 3.1.1 promoted build

  Promoted build #9 for GlassFish 3.1.1 is available from the usual location. This is the "soft code freeze" build with only the "hard code freeze" build left before the release candidate. So if you have bugs you'd like to see fixed, voice your opinion *now*. As a quick reminder, GlassFish offers Web Profile or Full Platform distributions in ZIP or installer flavors (some more details in this blog post from last year but still relevant). If you've installed previous promoted builds or simply have the "dev" repository defined, then the Update Center will simply update the existing installed bits. In addition to the earlier update on 3.1.1 it's probably safe to say that this version was carefully designed to be highly compatible with the previous 3.x versions, thus leaving you with little reasons not to upgrade as soon as it comes out this summer.

  We’ve previously written about a tool that allows you to create a bunch of folders at one time from a list of words or phrases. However, what if you want to create one or more folders from a bunch of selected text files? There’s a simple, free tool, called Files 2 Folder, that allows you to do that. Installing Files 2 Folder adds an option to the context menu for Windows Explorer. Simply extract the .zip file you downloaded (see the link at the end of this article). Right-click on the Files2Folder.exe file and select Run as administrator. • Good practices when writing a parser for a standard file format (such as ePub)

  I am considering writing an Android reader software that can read ePubs and display them. I checked the ePub standard documents. However, these contain a lot of information. So I am wondering what is the process of implementing a standard for a file format. What are the steps to get a working implementation without passing by parts of the standard? Are there any best practices? Also, is it even possible to program this alone in a reasonable time? From what I have already found out, ePub is basically a zip archive. That means I could probably use zlib to decompress it. The content is in XHTML and CSS, so I believe it should be possible to display it in a WebView. The parts that are missing are writing the code that can read the metadata and manage the non-standard XHTML extensions.

  One of the questions that comes up frequently, is "Is it worthwhile to report errors?".Last weekend, after installing the latest StyleCop I loaded up my copy of Power Collections. I found that StyleCop was now correctly picking up a lot of missing "this." statements, however there were now a number of false positives. Anticipating the need to submit sample code, I cleaned the solution and zipped it up.I reported this at http://stylecop.codeplex.com/discussions/357319.  The stylecop administrator promoted this report to a work item (see http://stylecop.codeplex.com/workitem/7285) and I uploaded the previously prepared Zip file. The StyleCop team was able to locate the problem and it is "Fixed in upcoming 4.7.27".The conclusion:Report errors!  Prepare sample code illustrating the error.

• How should I expand Jenkins to help me release? [closed]

  Pushing new Sparkle releases of our internal apps is a pain. I have to make the build, make the release notes file, sign the .zip with the private key, and add a new entry to the appcast file tying everything together. I'd love it if Jenkins could help: use the commit messages for the release notes, and automatically do the rest of it. Should I be looking at writing a new Jenkins plugin, or using shell scripting, or is there something already that will do what I want? (A quick Google didn't find anything.)

EPM-specific instructions are available in Knowledge Management article 1304885.1. This RDA version incorporates two new modules (EAS=Essbase Administration Services; HWA=Hyperion Web Analysis) and improvements in modules and profiles relating to twelve other Hyperion applications (EPM, EPMA, ESS, FCM, HFM, HFR, HIR, HPL, HPSV, HSS, PR, and HSV). To follow best practice, run related RDA profiles [for example: "perl rda.pl -vnSCRPp Hyperion1112_EAS"] and attach the output zip file [by default in \rda\output\] to your service requests. The comprehensive set of details provided in such output files should help technicians to avoid delays in handling service requests (by avoiding ping-pong communications resulting from repeated requests for additional values).

• Writing a basic shader for large input files

  I started writing a shader for my iOS app and instead of starting from scratch i used this tutorial here: http://www.raywenderlich.com/3664/opengl-es-2-0-for-iphone-tutorial I wrote an import function, first to import wavefront .obj models. My problem is that with I can't handle larger inputs (with a simple cube it was working). I realized that the indices array is an array of GLubyte values, which is unsigned char, so as a result i cant have more than 256 indexes. I modified it to GLuint, but then only get a blank screen. • Wordpress does not create directories?

  First I will just tell you how my wordpress hierarchy looks like: /var/www has all of the wordpress files, which is different from how it is normally set up as /var/www/wordpress (symlinked to /usr/share/wordpress). So var/www contains all of the files that /usr/share/wordpress would have, and /usr/share/wordpress is symlinked to /var/www, with an extra /var/www/wordpress symlinked to /var/www to prevent possible compatibility issues. When uploading a file like a favicon or a .zip-ped theme, everything works fine, and when checking if the theme/favicon is uploaded, wordpress shows that it is, and points to a directory that it thinks that it had created, like http:/localhost/wp-content/uploads/2012/..., which it had not, because the uploads folder is empty! And so there is a broken link on the internet and the theme is displayed but it has just plain text (because it had reverted to a plain theme I think) Please help! I am sorry for such a long post but this is really quite a troublesome problem. I have chowned /var/www and /usr/share/wordpress to www-data.

• GitHub OS project how to have a good version and a work in progress version

  I have started my own OS application, I am hosting it on GitHub. My problem is that I push changes to the repository from more than one location so sometimes I want to work on it and sometimes I can't always finish something in time but I would still like to push it anyway so I can fetch it later from my other location. I'd like to be able to somehow have a stable version and have the master branch be a 'work in progress'. How do I do this? Is there some button I can push that will take the code from my master branch and make it into a zip file in my downloads tab and call it a version or should I do this by hand? Would it be better to have the master branch be nice and neat and have a separate branch to play with and then merge the two when the time is right? Would this not cause more problems in the merging phase?

  I recently worked on a project to create a custom content folio renderer in WebCenter Content. It needed to output the native files in the folio along with a manifest file in HTML format which would list the contents of the folio along with any designated metadata and a relative link to the file within the download.  This way a person could hand someone the folio download and it would be a self-contained package with all of the content and a single file to display the information on the contents.  The default Zip rendition of the folio will output the web-viewable version of the file with an HDA formatted file for each one. • How to Stop Browser from rejecting my downloads

  I have a portfolio site where I am trying to host some of my work, so people can download my work. Some of these files include exe executables, and some are jar executables, which are run through batch. When a user tries to download my apps, it says that the file is not commonly downloaded and may be harmful, and therefore blocks the download. If I zip the folders, it still does the same thing. Any format i choose, still blocks the downloads. How can I stop chrome from doing this. Is there a way I can verify my files so they will be considered as trusted? Thanks in advance!

I would like to markup my business listing 'profile' level pages for display as enhanced listings/rich-snippets complete with business names, addresses and phone numbers. I would also like to display site-links and path-based breadcrumbs to help users navigate site directory hierarchy (which is deep). Is there a limit to the amount of breadcrumbs a site can leave?
