• How to add a 'second elbow' to an 'elbow arrow connector' in Powerpoint 2007?

  I'm trying to put together a relatively complex flow-chart thing -as part of a University assignment (health-related, and gosh, does my university love all things Microsoft Office...). Because of the way the chart progresses I have to connect two objects with a 'double elbow' version of the 'elbow arrow connector.' I accept that perhaps this complexity means I should redesign the chart, but I've tried and failed to simplify things already. If you'll pardon my ASCII art, this is what I have: +----------------+ | 1 | | | +-------+--------+ | | +-------+--------+ /\ |2 +--------|-----/ 3\ +----------------+ \ / \/ Shape 1 should connect to shape 3, currently the line doing so passes behind shape 2. • What Defines an AD Object as "Inactive"

  I am going to be using some DSQUERY/DSMOVE scripts to clean up my AD Domin. One option is to move inactive objects to a OU that has restrictive GPOs applied to it. Something like: DSQUERY computer -inactive 10 | DSMOVE -newparent <distinguished name of target OU> My question is what value defines an object, both user and computer, as "inactive" for a period of time? Is it the last time a computer was logged on to for computer accounts, and for users is it the last time that the user account logged on to a computer? But what if, say for example, I had a web server that wasn't rebooted and or logged into for a couple of months but remain powered on and functioning as normal, would it be defined as "inactive" where as technically it's still serving web pages and so on?   I just took over the IT for a medium sized business with a three domain controllers (2003/2008 Standard) and whenever I create a new user, after some time the user account cannot log into most machines on the network. I have traced this back to the "Log On To..." area becoming populated with a small list of machines. Even when I set the option to all computers, this list comes back after some time. I started hunting for vbs and ps1 scripts with the word "workstations" in them on all domain controllers to see if there is some kind of script to blame, but I have thus far come up empty handed. Is there a known software suite that can cause this (Microsoft Forefront, etc)? How can I figure out what is causing this list to change?

• dilog box keep asking for password

  I'm having the exact same problem. I am running Windows 7, Outlook 2007 (Office 2007 pro) and I'm connecting to our Exchange Server 2007 which is part of Small Business Server 2008 Outlook 2007 on a client keeps asking for the password to the remote access URL. If I simply click cancel it's OK for a few minutes. Entering the password and clicking the save PW box does no good. Sometimes clicking cancel results in another dilog box asking the same thing and I may have to click cancel several times to get it to go away for a while. Occasionally Outlook may actually go into a mode where it says it needs the password typed so I click the link which brings the dilog back but simply clicking cancel will make Outlook connect again. can anyone help me thanks

  Beyondtrust.com published a report, somewhat recently, claiming among other quite compelling things, "90% of Critical Microsoft Windows 7 Vulnerabilities are Mitigated by Eliminating Admin Rights" Other interesting 'facts' they provide say that these are also mitigated by NOT running as a local admin: 100% of Microsoft Office vulnerabilities reported in 2009 94% of Internet Explorer and 100% of IE 8 vulnerabilities reported in 2009 BUT, reading the first page or so of the report I saw this line: A vulnerability is considered mitigated by removing administrator rights if the following sentence is located in the Security Bulletin’s Mitigating Factors section, ?Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights. could be sounds pretty weak to me so and I wondered how valid all this really is. I'm NOT trying to say it's not safer to run without admin rights, I think that is well known. I just wonder if these stats are something you would use as ammo in an argument, or use to sell a change like that (removing users as local admins) to business side? Thoughts? I don't mind browsing the Registry, using Process Explorer, reading the Event logs, (un)installing new drivers and so on, but all this only makes me solve some problems. I tend though to run into problems where these tools aren't enough. Which tools should I learn about to improve my troubleshooting skills in Windows? Currently I'm using Windows Vista x64 (not moved to 7 yet), facing audio/video stuttering problems and I think this is a good place to improve my troubleshooting skills. I know this post is similar to this question, but my machine is only hanging occationally.   I've had a look around on the official Adobe Shop website, but I couldn't find a clear answer for this.. I am a freelance developer and I have recently purchased Adobe Photoshop CS6 through the Adobe.com (small/medium business site, volume licensing). However, after downloading and installing it a couple of days ago, I realised that I may require the complete 'Adobe Creative Suite 6' instead. Does anyone out there know if this it is possible to upgrade your purchase, and not just the specific product you've bought previously? I guess I'm looking for something along the lines of 'Complete My Album', but for Adobe software, so that I don't end up with two copies of Photoshop. Thanks :)

  I have custom AD attribute added to my AD schema. Attribute's syntax is Unicode String. It is added to user class and the purpose of it is to store user ID of corporate ERP system. Problem is, that I can have two or more user objects with the same value stored in that attribute, which is something that I would like to avoid. Is there a way to configure AD attribute so it is unique within the domain boundary? (The same behavior as SAMAccountName attribute.) i.e : If there already exists user object in AD with this attribute set to "JSmith" and I try to set that attribute with the same value for another user, Direcory Services will refuse to update that object and give me "already exists" error. Domain functional level is windows 2003.

• Error setting up Data Protection Manager 2010 Agents / Network "Unauthenticated" in network settings

  I'm not sure if the two are connected but i suspect they are. Basically I'm tring to setup Data Protection Manager 2010 on a fresh install of Server 2008 R2 in a SBS 2003 domain. Everything went fine until trying to install agents across the network. Upon clicking add, i get the following error message: Unable to connect to the Active Directory Domain Services Database. Make sure that the DPM server is a member of a domain and that the controller is running. Also verify that there is network connectivity between the DPM server and the domain controller. ID: 7 As usual (worryingly) the MSDN support for 2010 products is nearly non existant, clicking the error ID simply gives a page not found error. So after 2 days of Googling and trying various fixes (DNS settings, adding permissions to GPO objects, rejoining the domain and many more) I thought I'd ask here in the hope that someone out there may have had this issue before. Any help greatly appreciated!

  Hello I just read this article which I find concerning: "After 90 minutes of troubleshooting, Nash traced the problem to TeamViewer, which he used to remotely administer the client's servers. It turns out the program had opened up its own webserver on the client's machine as soon as Apache went down and in the process made it impossible for the client, a large provider of business software, to restart its proper website." http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/07/24/teamviewer_snafu/ I started using TeamViewer recently because it's just much better than UltraVNC (runs on both XP and Vista, the server dials out instead of requiring the user to open a port on their router + better performance than UVNC)... but I thought that TeamViewer had both the server and client connect out to TV's web server for data to flow between the two hosts. Why does TV even need to open a web server on the server host? Thank you.

• Removing Exchange 2010 and SBS2011 gracefully after migration to Server 2008 Std R2

  We have recently completed a server replacement for a customer. They had SBS2011 using Exchange 2010. They now have Server 2008 Std R2 and Google Apps email. We have migrated the DHCP, DNS, Filserver and all 5 FSMO roles to the new 2008 R2 server (today). During the grace period for SBS2011 we intend to decomission the old server completely. Previous experience would suggest uninstalling Exchange 2010 then demote SBS2011 then remove from the domain and switch off. Can I simply demote SBS2011 without removing Exchange? Can't really find any walkthroughs on this. My concern is that if we simply turn off SBS2011 the AD is left in a mess with legacy Exchange objects making any potential reintroduction of Exchange difficult in future, plus I want to do it the right way!

• Virtual box lost files

  I have been running Virtual Box on a Macbook Pro for a year or more, with an old version of Windows XP running on the virtual machine. Recently my Mac battery dies completely and I had left VB / Windows running. When I re-started the Mac, VB would not load. I reinstalled a recent download of VB from a DMG file I had stored. Now VB starts but when I try to start the virtual machine I get the following message, Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows XP. Failed to load VMMR0.r0 (VERR_SUPLIB_WRITE_NON_SYS_GROUP). Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005) Component: Console Interface: IConsole {1968b7d3-e3bf-4ceb-99e0-cb7c913317bb} I have been backing up the MAC using Time Machine and have backups going back months. I really need to access the windows files as they have my Accounts and other business critical stuff. Any ideas please, or does anyone know where I can get some support for this combination of hardware / software, apologies I am a novice in this area. Thanks in advance.

• TCP failure on Solaris

  Hi All, I recently ran into a problem where a Solaris server could not establish a TCP socket on port 2126. From a packet capture I see this (note: A is a Solaris server, B is a router): A sends SYN to B B sends SYN, ACK to A Notice A (Solaris) does not acknowledge the SYN from B. Due to the business impact of the problem, I had to reboot the server to fix the problem. That said, I want to know the next time the problem occurs, what can I do to get a root cause (ie before server reboot)? Thanks in advance.

We are using sandcastle to create the documentation (company choice), and I want to be able to review my xml comments without building the help file every time. Is there an application that anyone would recommend where I can view how the xml renders before I build the help file? • Prevent Server Restart after Windows Updates

  we have a number of servers in our office, as a small hosting company, and these servers are critical to business, ... web server, mail server, db server, etc. On a semi-regular basis, when the machines get automatic updates, they just automagically reboot themselves in the middle of the night. A number of them have software which must be running on the console session (bad practice, I know, but out of my control). When they reboot themselves, these programs obviously shut down, leaving customers upset and services interrupted. How do you set a Windows Server 2003 R2 machine to NEVER automagically reboot itself after updates? And perhaps, if possible, to instead email someone so that they are aware it needs a pending reboot and can schedule it for the best time? Thanks in advance!

• My Mac is slow but don't know what's slowing it down

  My Mac (Macbook Pro) is sometimes slow doing basic tasks, like browsing the web or something like that. If I open Activity Monitor, I have (maybe) one program that is about 10 % CPU, others are below 1 %. My CPU usage is not full. I still have more than 2 GB of free memory (out of 5 GB). There is no heavy I/O activity like copying files. My open programs are Google Chrome (6 tabs, none of which are in some way (flash, many DOM objects, Javascript) have IMO, except maybe Gmail), Activity Monitor, Finder, Sublime Text 2 (text editor) and iTerm (terminal). What is causing the slowdown? "Slow" being: taking time to write these characters (I press the keyboard keys but there is a delay before I see them on the screen), changing tabs or programs, etc.

• How can I permanently fix my date synchronize problem in linux?

  Ubuntu 7.10 server i386 clock/date/time won't stay in sync. Are their log files I can view to tell when the clock changes? For a temporary fix, I created a file in /etc/cron.hourly: #!/bin/sh ntpdate time.nist.gov However, this still leaves a potential hour of unchecked time. Is there a cron.minutely? That would still leave a potential minute of unchecked time. I have read about CMOS battery problems, but what if this does not fix it? I'd like to be able to troubleshoot this as a completely software problem. My squid logs are showing dates back in 2005 when the clock changes, and my time-sensitive access controls are skewed and end up allowing users to surf prohibited websites during business hours.

• hardware leasing vs purchase

  I'm wanting to get a new laptop and desktop. I'm self-employed and so both bits of kit are primarily for business use. I've been looking into leasing both computers as an alternative to purchasing outright. Does anyone have any experience of this? I'm UK based and have found a company called hardsoft which seem to offer a good service. I'm particularly attracted by the upgrade after 18 months option and the fact that the machines are under warranty for the lift of the lease. • Winlogon.exe causes C++ runtime error

  Recently I've become unable to log into my Dell Precision M2400. It uses the Dell Controlpoint login GUI instead of the typical windows one, and has now started giving me a runtime error on winlogon.exe that ends with a c000021a BSOD. I have tried running through safe mode and a restore to the last known good setting with no success. Unfortunately by BIOS password is locked and the one IT guy with the password is on vacation and unreachable until after I leave for a business trip. Is there anyway to bypass the Dell logon screen and get to the default windows one? Thanks.

• Oracle 10.2.0.1 --> 10.2.0.4 patchset errors on Advanced Queuing tables. Serious or not?

  We're running Oracle on RHEL 5.4 64-bit. We recently did an upgrade from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.4. Many errors were generated during the upgrade (sample listed below from trace.log) but during application testing afterward everything seemed fine (clean EXP, inserts, updates, deletes, etc.). The errors look like they are all related to Advanced Queuing tables and views. We are not using replication at all, this is a simple single instance db. ORA-24002: QUEUE_TABLE SYS.AQ_EVENT_TABLE does not exist ORA-24032: object AQ$_AQ_SRVNTFN_TABLE_T exists, index could not be created ORA-24032: object AQ$_ALERT_QT_S exists, index could not be created for queue ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_AQADM_SYSCALLS", line 117 ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_AQADM_SYS", line 5116 Is this worth worrying about, and if so, how do I go about cleaning up/recreating the corrupted and/or missing objects?
