Using JSON Data to Populate a Google Map with Database Objects

I'm revising this question after reading the resources mentioned in the original answers and working through implementing it. I'm using the google maps api to integrate a map into my Rails site. I have a markets model with the following columns: ID, name, address, lat, lng. On my markets/index view, I want to populate a map with all the markets in my markets table. I'm trying to output @markets as json data, and that's where I'm running into problems. I have the basic map displaying, but right now it's just a blank map. I'm following the tutorials very closely, but I can't get the markers to generate dynamically from the json. Any help is much appreciated! jquery performing calculation on dynamically generated elements

I have a table made up of a row of 3 input elements: Price, Quanity, and Total. Under that, I have two links I can click to dynamically generate another row in the table. All that is working well, but actually calculating a value for the total element is giving me trouble. I know how to calculate the value of the first total element but I'm having trouble extending this functionality when I add a new row to the table. Algorithm to Render a Horizontal Binary-ish Tree in Text/ASCII form

It's a pretty normal binary tree, except for the fact that one of the nodes may be empty. I'd like to find a way to output it in a horizontal way (that is, the root node is on the left and expands to the right). I've had some experience expanding trees vertically (root node at the top, expanding downwards), but I'm not sure where to start, in this case. Preferably, it would follow these couple of rules: If a node has only one child, it can be skipped as redundant (an "end node", with no children, is always displayed) All nodes of the same depth must be aligned vertically; all nodes must be to the right of all less-deep nodes and to the left of all deeper nodes. Nodes have a string representation which includes their depth. Each "end node" has its own unique line; that is, the number of lines is the number of end nodes in the tree, and when an end node is on a line, there may be nothing else on that line after that end node. As a consequence of the last rule, the root node should be in either the top left or the bottom left corner; top left is preferred. For example, this is a valid tree, with six end nodes (node is represented by a name, and its depth): [a0]------------[b3]------[c5]------[d8] \ \ \----------[e9] \ \----[f5] \--[g1]--------[h4]------[i6] \ \--------------------[j10] \-[k3] Which represents the horizontal, explicit binary tree: 0 a / \ 1 g * / \ \ 2 * * * / \ \ 3 k * b / / \ 4 h * * / \ \ \ 5 * * f c / \ / \ 6 * i * * / / \ 7 * * * / / \ 8 * * d / / 9 * e / 10 j (branches folded for compactness; * representing redundant, one-child nodes; note that *'s are actual nodes, storing one child each, just with names omitted here for presentation sake) (also, to clarify, I'd like to generate the first, horizontal tree; not this vertical tree) I say language-agnostic because I'm just looking for an algorithm; I say ruby because I'm eventually going to have to implement it in ruby anyway. Database connection timeout

Hi I have read so many articles on the Internet about this problem but none seem to have a clear solution. Please could someone give me a definite answer as to why I am getting database timeouts. The app is a GWT app that is being hosted on a Tomcat 5.5 server. How can I make Swig correctly wrap a char* buffer that is modified in C as a Java Something-or-other

I am trying to wrap some legacy code for use in Java and I was quite happy to see that Swig was able to handle the header file and it generate a great wrapper that almost works. Now I am looking for the deep magic that will make it really work. In C I have a function that looks like this DLL_IMPORT int DustyVoodoo(char *buff, int len, char *curse); This integer returned by this function is an error code in case it fails. The arguments are buff is a character buffer len is the length of the data in the buffer curse the another character buffer that contains the result of calling DustyVoodoo So, you can see where this is going, the result is actually coming back via the third argument. Also len is confusing since it may be the length of both buffers, they are always allocated as being the same size in calling code but given what DustyVoodoo does I don't think that they need be the same. To be safe both buffers should be the same size in practice, say 512 chars. It also does not know that the java Strings are really buffers and should be backed by a suitably sized array. I think that Swig can do the right thing here, I just can't figure out from the documentation how to tell Swig what it needs to know. Any typemap masers in the house?

Unable to start basic application using sencha 2. Library files are not loaded

I am a new bee to sencha 2.I wanted to run a basic application using sencha touch but unable to load the application. Here is what I have done. I have downloaded the notesApp from miamicoder and i am trying to run the first chapter. I have attached the folder structure in the screenshot. Please have a look to understand the folder structure. I am developing asp.net web service. I am developing this web service so that OPC ( OLE for process control) client application can use it. In this web service I am using the built-in functions provided by the namespaces using OPC, using OPCDA, using OPCDA.NET. I have also added the namespace using System.Windows.Forms in this web service so that I can use the windows form control. In that we service I have created on web method which takes the parameter of type windows form control as given below. public void getOPCServerItems(TreeView tvServerItems, ListView lvBranchItems) { ArrayList ArrlstObj = new ArrayList(); ItemShowTreeList = OpcSrv.ShowBrowseTreeList(tvServerItems, lvBranchItems); ItemShowTreeList.BrowseModeOneLevel = true; // browse hierachy levels when selected. (default) ItemShowTreeList.Show(OpcSrv.ServerName); } In the above web method I need to pass the values to the built-in function ShowBrowseTreeList() (found in OPC, OPCDA, OPCDA.NET namespaces). This function takes the two parameter of windows form control type. These parameters are Treeview & ListView control of the windows form. In the above web method ShowBrowseTreeList() method automatically create the treeview & listview structure of the available items. Now as I am consuming the web service so I need to pass the values to the webmethod getOPCServerItems(). But as I my consuming application is asp.net application there is no such windows form control. In asp.net application there are also & control. I want to display The data returned in these asp.net controls rather than windows form control. I am not getting the way what should I need to do or how should I pass the values form my client application to this web service ? In the above method getOPCServerItems() when I use the parameter of type treeview & listview it generate s error "Cannot serialize member System.ComponentModel.Component.Site of type System.ComponentModel.ISite because it is an interface.". Can you provide me the the way In which I can write the above web method & how should I pass parameter to the Treeview & Listview control (windows form control) from my asp.net application ? which controls I should use to pass parameters ? Is there any need to do any type of casting ? Can you provide me the the code for above web method so that I can resolve the above issue ?

function parameter used to store value

Hi, I have to define an interface. The API in my homework is stated below: int generate_codes(char * ssn, char * student_id); int denotes 0 or 1 for pass or fail. studentid is an output param should return a 6 digit id. ssn is a 9 digit input param they school program will take ssn's and use my code to generate the student id. now from an API perspective should I not be using const char * for both parameters. should the studentid not be passed in by reference? rather than by pointer? can someone tell me how i can easily use the pointer in my test app which uses my api to get the pointer such that it prints a std::string from a char *? my app code looks something like const char * ssn = "987098765" const char * studnt_id = new char [7]; int value = -1; value = generate_codes(ssn,studnt_id); std::string test(studnt_id); std::cout<<"student id= "<<test<<" Pass/fail= "<<value<<std::endl; delete [] studnt_id; return 0; I basically got an error about << not being compatible with the right hand side of the operand. When i changed the code to std::cout<<"student id= "<<test.c_str()<<" Pass/fail= "<<value<<std::endl; then it worked but i get garbage for the value. not sure how to do get the value form the pointer. THe value inside the function prints just fine. but when i try to print it outside of the function it prints garbage. Inside the above function I do set the studndt_id like so std::string str_studnt_id = studnt_id; should that make the address of the str_studnt point to the address of studnt_id and thus any changes I make to the value that its pointing to it should reflect outside the function?

Is it a good way to close a thread?

I have a short version of the question: I start a thread like that: counter.start();, where counter is a thread. At the point when I want to stop the thread I do that: counter.interrupt() In my thread I periodically do this check: Thread.interrupted(). If it gives true I return from the thread and, as a consequence, it stops. And here are some details, if needed: If you need more details, they are here. Java Hibernate/C3P0 error: "Could not obtain connection metadata. An attempt by a client to checkout

I'm trying to get some code I was passed up and running. It appears to use the Hibernate framework. I've gotten past most of the errors tweaking the configuration, but this one has me dead stumped. It's trying to connect to two databases: gameapp and gamelog. Both exist. It seems to have issues connecting to gamelog, but none connecting to gameapp (later in the init, it connects to and loads other DBs just fine). Below, I've pasted the error and exception stack dump. I imaging there's something else in the configs, so I've also included the configuration file for that db. Adobe Reader process fails when starting second instance

In our C# WinForms application, we generate PDF files and launch Adobe Reader (or whatever the default system .pdf handler is) via the Process class. Since our PDF files can be large (approx 200K), we handle the Exited event to then clean up the temp file afterwards. The system works as required when a file is opened and then closed again. However, when a second file is opened (before closing Adobe Reader) the second process immediately exits (since Reader is now using it's MDI powers) and in our Exited handler our File.Delete call should fail because it's locked by the now joined Adobe process. However, in Reader we instead get: There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found. The unusual thing is that if I put a debugger breakpoint before the file deletion and allow it to attempt (and fail) the deletion, then the system behaves as expected! I'm positive that the file exists and fairly positive that all handles/file streams to the file are closed before starting the process. SSH not working over IPSec tunnel (Strongswan)

I configured a small network on a cloud virtual machine. This virtual machine has a static IP address assigned to eth0 interface that I'll call $EXTIP. mydomain.com points to $EXTIP. Inside, I have some linux containers, that get their ip through DHCP in the Subnet 10.0.0.0/24 (i called the virtual interface nat ). They run some services that can be reached through DNAT. SIGSEGV problem

I'm designing a protocol (in C) to implement the layered OSI network structure, using cnet (http://www.csse.uwa.edu.au/cnet/). I'm getting a SIGSEGV error at runtime, however cnet compiles my source code files itself (I can't compile it through gcc) so I can't easily use any debugging tools such as gdb to find the error. How do you implement position-sensitive zooming inside a JScrollPane?

I am trying to implement position-sensitive zooming inside a JScrollPane. The JScrollPane contains a component with a customized 'paint' that will draw itself inside whatever space it is allocated - so zooming is as easy as using a MouseWheelListener that resizes the inner component as required. But I also want zooming into (or out of) a point to keep that point as central as possible within the resulting zoomed-in (or -out) view (this is what I refer to as 'position-sensitive' zooming), similar to how zooming works in google maps. I am sure this has been done many times before - does anybody know the "right" way to do it under Java Swing?. Would it be better to play with Graphic2D's transformations instead of using JScrollPanes? Problem with Google Calendar API invocation at server side

I downloaded the library for java and I added as external JAR in eclipse the following files: gdata-core, gdata-calendar, gdata- calendar-meta, gdata-client-meta, gdata-client. TicTacToe AI Making Incorrect Decisions

A little background: as a way to learn multinode trees in C++, I decided to generate all possible TicTacToe boards and store them in a tree such that the branch beginning at a node are all boards that can follow from that node, and the children of a node are boards that follow in one move. After that, I thought it would be fun to write an AI to play TicTacToe using that tree as a decision tree. TTT is a solvable problem where a perfect player will never lose, so it seemed an easy AI to code for my first time trying an AI. Now when I first implemented the AI, I went back and added two fields to each node upon generation: the # of times X will win & the # of times O will win in all children below that node. I figured the best solution was to simply have my AI on each move choose and go down the subtree where it wins the most times. Then I discovered that while it plays perfect most of the time, I found ways where I could beat it. It wasn't a problem with my code, simply a problem with the way I had the AI choose it's path. Then I decided to have it choose the tree with either the maximum wins for the computer or the maximum losses for the human, whichever was more. This made it perform BETTER, but still not perfect. I could still beat it. So I have two ideas and I'm hoping for input on which is better: 1) Instead of maximizing the wins or losses, instead I could assign values of 1 for a win, 0 for a draw, and -1 for a loss. Then choosing the tree with the highest value will be the best move because that next node can't be a move that results in a loss. It's an easy change in the board generation, but it retains the same search space and memory usage. Or... 2) During board generation, if there is a board such that either X or O will win in their next move, only the child that prevents that win will be generated. No other child nodes will be considered, and then generation will proceed as normal after that. It shrinks the size of the tree, but then I have to implement an algorithm to determine if there is a one move win and I think that can only be done in linear time (making board generation a lot slower I think?) Which is better, or is there an even better solution?

And why this attribute works in the autogenerated class, but not in the buddy. Any ideas? Also why does DisplayName get overriden by the buddy, when StringLength does not?

How to set width of parent div in css

I am using vaadin in combination with navigator7 addon. In header and footer there are spacings between conponents That i would not have. I tried to remove the spacings using setSpacing(false) for header and footer component but it is not working probably becouse of the addon. So i tried to solve this using css. fonts mac vs pc

Hi all hope your having a good day/evening. Simple question, but maybe not so simple to answer. I have an unordered list, which i am using as a menu. The list items are floated right and sized due to an anchor tag inside them with a roll over. The last element is given a specific size to suck up any extra space. Take the same code to a Mac; Safari/ firefox are displaying the menu to be too short and the only thing i can point to is that the fonts may be smaller in widths. The width is currently set to 970px. My question is: How can i get it to display at the same widths without specifying exact widths for each list item? Any help would be appreciated.
