  • LinkedList.contains execution speed

Why Methode LinkedList.contains() runs quickly than such implementation: for (String s : list) if (s.equals(element)) return true; return false; I don't see great difference between this to implementations(i consider that search objects aren't nulls), same iterator and equals operation

  • Searching and sorting by a float field with thinking sphinx

    - by nathan Verni
I'm using thinking sphinx to for search on a rails app. I have a float field called 'height'. I need to be able to search this field for exact values (i.e. exactly 6.0, not 6.5). I also need to be able to sort on the field. What I have so far: indexes height, :sortable => true Problem: doesn't sort properly, returns 6.0 and 6.5 if I search for '6'

  • Grails populate params with XML from POST request

    - by othman
I have a RestFull grails api that i expose through grails Controller. I need to automatically bind the xml data sent in a POST request. I don't think using groovy bindData(object, params) works as the params reference seems not having the xml elements. i use the parseRequest=true in the UrlMappings but yet the params Object does'nt have the xml elements. am i missing some other config so that my params object get automatically populated with the xml body elements?

  • C preprocessor: using #if inside #define?

    - by Wxy
I want to write a macro that spits out code based on the boolean value of its parameter. So say DEF_CONST(true) should be expanded into "const", and DEF_CONST(false) should be expanded into nothing. Clearly the following doesn't work because we can't use another preprocessor inside #defines: #define DEF_CONST(b_const) \ #if (b_const) \ const \ #endif Any idea about how to do it?

  • Sessions enabled - do we have to clean them up ourselves?

    - by user246114
Hi, When we turn sessions on in google app engine like: // appengine-web.xml <sessions-enabled>true</sessions-enabled> does app engine automatically clean up expired sessions, or do we have to do it ourselves? After turning them on, I see in the datastore that some entries are being generated like _ah_session, I'm wondering if those are them? Thanks

  • Calling back a functions value

    - by Jason Kelly
I need your help, I cannot, for the life of me, figure this out. I've had my head wrapped around it only to no avail. Ideally, i'd like to setup two functions. 1 function: select_date() to interact with the user to select a date from the jQuery Date picker. If the dialog is closed then return as null. Then a second function: test() to check wether or not a date was picked/selected.' Here's my delema, when the function test() is executed, an alert box pops up and says "undefined" which means, I never get to select a date and it always being "undefined" I dont see what I am doing wrong here and everything seems logical to me. <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <link href="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.21/themes/base/jquery-ui.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.js"></script> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.21/jquery-ui.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> function select_date() { var sdate $('#dd').dialog({ autoOpen: true, modal: true, overlay: { opacity: 0.5, background: 'black' }, title: "title", height: 265, width: 235, draggable: false, resizable: false }); $('#d1').datepicker({ onSelect: function () { $("#dd").dialog("close"); } }); return sdate } function test() { var x = select_date() alert(x) } </script> <style type="text/css"> #d1 {font-size:64%;} </style> </head> <body> <div id="dd"> <div id="d1"> </div> </div> <a href="javascript:test()">test</a> </body> </html>

  • Can I use this Ajax script to communicate and exchange data between client and server?

    - by lala
This block of code is for client.html (it is located in this www.client.com/client.html) - client side. The I have the code below that goes something like this: ajaxRequest.open("GET", "http://www.server.com/ajax.php", true); This is how I call the file ajax.php located in the server. Unfortunately I have no luck at all. It cannot connect to the server I'm calling. BTW, the ips /test site I've been using are all no restrictions, and is accessible to all. However, I tried to simulate by putting both client.html and ajax.php in same site and it works well. So my question is does this script works only if you are in same site? or does it work also in client-server scenario? What else do I have to do in order to make this work? //client.html <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> <!-- //Browser Support Code function ajaxFunction(){ var ajaxRequest; // The variable that makes Ajax possible! try{ // Opera 8.0+, Firefox, Safari ajaxRequest = new XMLHttpRequest(); } catch (e){ // Internet Explorer Browsers try{ ajaxRequest = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); } catch (e) { try{ ajaxRequest = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } catch (e){ // Something went wrong alert("Your browser broke!"); return false; } } } // Create a function that will receive data sent from the server ajaxRequest.onreadystatechange = function(){ if(ajaxRequest.readyState == 4){ document.myForm.time.value = ajaxRequest.responseText; } } ajaxRequest.open("GET", "http://www.server.com/ajax.php", true); ajaxRequest.send(null); } //--> </script> <form name='myForm'> Name: <input type='text' onChange="ajaxFunction();" name='username' /> <br /> Time: <input type='text' name='time' /> </form> </body> </html> // ajax.php <?php echo date("H:i:s"); ?>

  • Distinguishing between failure and end of file in read loop

    - by celtschk
The idiomatic loop to read from an istream is while (thestream >> value) { // do something with value } Now this loop has one problem: It will not distinguish if the loop terminated due to end of file, or due to an error. For example, take the following test program: #include <iostream> #include <sstream> void readbools(std::istream& is) { bool b; while (is >> b) { std::cout << (b ? "T" : "F"); } std::cout << " - " << is.good() << is.eof() << is.fail() << is.bad() << "\n"; } void testread(std::string s) { std::istringstream is(s); is >> std::boolalpha; readbools(is); } int main() { testread("true false"); testread("true false tr"); } The first call to testread contains two valid bools, and therefore is not an error. The second call ends with a third, incomplete bool, and therefore is an error. Nevertheless, the behaviour of both is the same. In the first case, reading the boolean value fails because there is none, while in the second case it fails because it is incomplete, and in both cases EOF is hit. Indeed, the program above outputs twice the same line: TF - 0110 TF - 0110 To solve this problem, I thought of the following solution: while (thestream >> std::ws && !thestream.eof() && thestream >> value) { // do something with value } The idea is to detect regular EOF before actually trying to extract the value. Because there might be whitespace at the end of the file (which would not be an error, but cause read of the last item to not hit EOF), I first discard any whitespace (which cannot fail) and then test for EOF. Only if I'm not at the end of file, I try to read the value. For my example program, it indeed seems to work, and I get TF - 0100 TF - 0110 So in the first case (correct input), fail() returns false. Now my question: Is this solution guaranteed to work, or was I just (un-)lucky that it happened to give the desired result? Also: Is there a simpler (or, if my solution is wrong, a correct) way to get the desired result?

  • JList with JScrollPane and prototype cell value wraps element names (replaces with dots instead of s

    - by Tom
I've got a Jlist inside a JScrollPane and I've set a prototype value so that it doesn't have to calculate the width for big lists, but just uses this default width. Now, the problem is that the Jlist is for some reason replacing the end of an element with dots (...) so that a horizontal scrollbar will never be shown. How do I disable with "wrapping"? So that long elements are not being replaced with dots if they are wider than the Jlist's width? I've reproduced the issue in a small example application. Please run it if you don't understand what I mean: import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.*; public class Test { //window private static final int windowWidth = 450; private static final int windowHeight = 500; //components private JFrame frame; private JList classesList; private DefaultListModel classesListModel; public Test() { load(); } private void load() { //create window frame = new JFrame("Test"); frame.setSize(windowWidth, windowHeight); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setUndecorated(true); frame.getRootPane().setWindowDecorationStyle(JRootPane.PLAIN_DIALOG); //classes list classesListModel = new DefaultListModel(); classesList = new JList(classesListModel); classesList.setPrototypeCellValue("prototype value"); classesList.setSelectionMode(ListSelectionModel.SINGLE_SELECTION); classesList.setVisibleRowCount(20); JScrollPane scrollClasses = new JScrollPane(classesList, JScrollPane.VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR_AS_NEEDED, JScrollPane.HORIZONTAL_SCROLLBAR_AS_NEEDED); for (int i = 0; i < 200; i++) { classesListModel.addElement("this is a long string, does not fit in width"); } //panel JPanel drawingArea = new JPanel(); drawingArea.setBackground(Color.white); drawingArea.add(scrollClasses); frame.add(drawingArea); //set visible frame.setVisible(true); } } Even if you force horizontal scrollbar, you still won't be able to scroll because the element is actually not wider than the width because of the dot (...) wrapping. Thanks in advance.
