  • How to disallow a windows service stop

    - by Saar
I have some security related service running on my machine (start type = automatic) In the service control manager, the stop/restart commands are grayed out. I was wondering how can I develop such service for which the stop operation is disallowed. Note that I am logged in as an administrator

  • Problems getting git 'server' to work on Windows

    - by Benjol
I've followed the Tim's article (mentioned in the answer to this question), but - like many others, it seems - I'm stuck when trying do the test clone at the end. I get the fatal: the remote end hung up unexpectedly error, even though my $HOME path seems to be right. Anyone got any pointers to where I might start for debugging this? My git and linux-fu are severely limited... I'm aware of this answer to the same question, but it doesn't apply in my case, I don't get any messages about paths.

  • Run and terminate a prgram (Python under Windows)

    - by Fredrich
I'd like to create a small script to that basically does this: run program1.exe -- kill program1.exe after n seconds -- run program1.exe again. I know some basic Python and would read up on this, but I'm in a bit of a hurry and just need this to get done asap. If someone has a script/idea or could help my out with just the syntax I need to open and kill the .exe file, please... I don't mind solutions in other languages either. I'm sorry if this is a bit "please write my code"-ish, that's not something I typically do.

  • System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser : Force X86?

    - by heap
This object always uses the default on the system, so on an x64 machine, it will use an x64 Internet Explorer object. Is there any way I can force it to use the x86 IE? The web page element the browser accesses does not work on x64 and is out of my control.

  • Windows GUIs for git (Updated)

    - by Benjol
I am aware of this question, but it is a bit old now, and some of the answers seem outdated. Question: please write one answer per GUI you have used, including pros and cons (for example, as far as I can tell, with git gui, you can't manage the stash).

When I tried it says that there is no such service !?!? Maybe there is some problems with the "pre-installing", because once deleted the whole cygwin folder

  • Subversion Copy Hook on Windows

    - by GeoSQL
Hi I am working on a web based project in my free time. I have SVN set up on my machine (running XP). What I would like to do is have a copy of my repository copied to the htdocs folder (Dev machine) post-commit via a hook. That way I can test my changes in a browser. I know that I can write up a .bat file, but I'm not sure what the syntax would be. I can do a basic DOS Copy command, but I saw one example that provided a username and password to SVN at copy time. Do I need to do this? Can someone point me in the right direction as far a syntax for the .bat file? Or maybe even suggest a better method. Thanks

  • WPF: Menu items and combo boxes don't render in Windows 7 64-bit

    - by lilserf
I'm trying to use an existing internal WPF application (I do have access to the source), but it was developed on XP and I'm using Windows7 64-bit. When I click (for instance) the File menu, 90% of the time I see no drop-down menu at all. The menu still exists - I can use the arrow keys to navigate up and down and choose an option if I happen to know the order of the options, but nothing renders at all. The other 10% of the time, the menu or some portion of it DOES render, but as I move the cursor up and down I get graphical corruption or disappearing options until I end up back at the "no menu is visible at all" state. This is also true of combo boxes within the application - they show no data when I drop them down, but I can arrow down and choose an entry. Microsoft has some advice about WPF rendering issues here but none of these steps has helped with my issue.

  • Using Message Boxes in Windows 7 style

    - by Meta
After reading the MSDN article about proper user interface here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa974176.aspx I want to modify the message boxes I use in my applications to reflect those guidelines (for example, have the Main Instructions in a larger font, better named Buttons, etc...). My question is, is there an API that allows you to easily build those kind of message boxes (a la user32\MessageBox()), or do you actually have to build your own message boxes which follow the guidelines?

  • Windows Phone 8 xaml textblock binding format

    - by user2042227
    I would like to format a textblock which is binded to a value, to show "R" before the actuall value, is this possible, cause I cannot directly change the value? Thank you <ListBox x:Name="lstbundleListbox" Foreground="White" Height="320" HorizontalAlignment="Center"> <ListBox.ItemContainerStyle> <Style TargetType="ListBoxItem"> <Setter Property="HorizontalContentAlignment" Value="Center" /> </Style> </ListBox.ItemContainerStyle> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel> <TextBlock Text="{Binding name}" TextWrapping="Wrap" HorizontalAlignment="Center"/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding cost}" TextWrapping="Wrap" HorizontalAlignment="Center"/> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> <ItemsControl.ItemsPanel> <ItemsPanelTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical"/> </ItemsPanelTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemsPanel> </ListBox> So I basically want the texblock to show R(cost)

  • Windows Phone 7.1.1 Ping

    - by Matt
I am writing an app to connect to a third party application using REST web services. I have a configuration page that asks for an IP, Port, User Name & Password, currently it just blindly assumes you enter the correct details and attempts a connection. I want to create a test routine that goes through and checks off the following steps when setting up the config information Is the IP/Hostname correct (using ping or something) Is the Port correct Is the Username & Password correct then displays the results on screen as it's going so that if it can't connect to the service it's easier to identify where the issue is. To achieve step 1 I would like to use Ping or some equivalent that does not rely on a particular port being open. So I can eliminate dodgy DNS or a typo in the IP/Hostname. I understand from previous questions asked that ping wasn't possible in 7.0 but with Mango the sockets classes have been added in, is it possible now, if so how? If it still isn't possible is there a different way I can achieve step 1?

  • Why won't my code segfault on Windows 7?

    - by Trevor
This is an unusual question to ask but here goes: In my code, I accidentally dereference NULL somewhere. But instead of the application crashing with a segfault, it seems to stop execution of the current function and just return control back to the UI. This makes debugging difficult because I would normally like to be alerted to the crash so I can attach a debugger. What could be causing this? Specifically, my code is an ODBC Driver (ie. a DLL). My test application is ODBC Test (odbct32w.exe) which allows me to explicitly call the ODBC API functions in my DLL. When I call one of the functions which has a known segfault, instead of crashing the application, ODBC Test simply returns control to the UI without printing the result of the function call. I can then call any function in my driver again. I do know that technically the application calls the ODBC driver manager which loads and calls the functions in my driver. But that is beside the point as my segfault (or whatever is happening) causes the driver manager function to not return either (as evidenced by the application not printing a result). One of my co-workers with a similar machine experiences this same problem while another does not but we have not been able to determine any specific differences.

    - by user3701923
    I need to have transparent textbox, in my WindowsPhone 8.1 Runtime application. I made Background="Transparent" to the textbox, so it is transparent when it is loaded. But on focus, background color changed to white. I write the following code, to make it transparent. But it doesn't run.! <TextBox Background="Transparent" GotFocus="titleBox_GotFocus" /> C# private void titleBox_GotFocus(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { titleBox.Background = new SolidColorBrush(Colors.Transparent); }

  • PivotControl item changing behavior in Silverlight Windows Phone 7

    - by Rosarch
I have an app where the user is sent to a page with a PivotControl. The SelectedIndex is not known until the user navigates to the page. I'm setting the SelectedIndex, but it causes the PivotControl to start on index 0, then flip through to the index I set. This is kind of annoying, and I'd rather just have it go directly to the index I set. Is there some way around this? One hack I thought up was providing the data to pivotControl.ItemsSource in an order such that the item I want the user to start on is index 0 in ItemsSource. But that would be kind of messy, and I'm wondering if there's a more elegant solution.

I have a little question, I want to change the background of my application with C#. I tried this code : var app = Application.Current as App; var imageBrush = new ImageBrush { ImageSource = new BitmapImage(new Uri(imageName, UriKind.Relative)) }; app.RootFrame.Background = imageBrush; But it doesn't work, the background is dark..
