• How do I make a subdomain of a subdomain?

  I have a server that hosts mydomain.com. Then I have a server that hosts subdomain1.mydomain.com. On the subdomain1.mydomain.com server, how do I make subdomains? For instance I want to create subdomain2.subdomain1.mydomain.com I have my subdomain1.mydomain.com site in /home/USER/public_html and it is working just fine. But When I try to create subdomain2.subdomain1.mydomain.com, it says Server not found in the browser. I have tried so many configurations in my /etc/hosts and /etc/apache2/sites-available/subdomain2.subdomain1.mydomain.com, without any luck Can I get some detailed instructions maybe? I have looked everywhere and every place tells you different, with no luck. Ubuntu Server 11.10 w/ the Lamp Stack option

  I am planning to create an e-commerce website for users to buy products and services. In this website I want users to register and also participate in something like a browser game, where every user may receive some questions which they have to answer. For each question they successfully answered, they receive points and the number of collected points will decide on which rank they are. Edit 2 Currently I am considering using only HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, SQL to design this e-commerce website. • debian (stable), google chrome, sencha and tranparency [closed]

  I am a bit unsure where to post this, but i guess it should be here, as it has to do with rendering in a browser. We have a sencha touch 1.1 application running in Google Chrome. On mij own computer (ubuntu) there are no problems. On the touch screen attached to a computer running debian-OS, transparency is shown as semi-transparent. It happens on sliders. Sliders have a button on them. This button is rendered bij sencha with CSS. It is NOT an image. Anyone has any idea how to get it 'nice' on debian too

• access to site owner not working

  I made a website it works for everyone except for the site owner, who cannot access the site. He gets a server could not be found error. I went to his house and the issue occurs for all of his devices (PC, laptop, iPhone using WiFi) when I turn WiFi off the iPhone it works. So I thought it was a problem on his router so I reset is router to default factory settings but it still does not work, I have flushed his DNS cache and his browser cache. But nothing seems to help. He cannot even PING the server using the domain name. However when he uses the IP address he can see the site fine. I looked in cpanel for an blocked IP addresses but cannot see anything. What could be stopping just him from accessing the site via domainname and not the IP address? Site details are: PHP, osCommerce it is hosted by site5 on my reseller account.

• Mouse click firing twice

  I have recently switched to XUbuntu (14.04) and I have noticed that sometimes a mouse click is fired twice. E.g. I CTRL click a link and two tabs with the same content are opened in my browser. It's not behaviour I can reproduce consistently and seems to be random (to me). I also don't know of a good way to inspect the behaviour properly for debugging purposes. I have checked the double click time setting but this doesn't seem to have any impact on this. I also run XUbuntu (13.10) in a VM on my MacBook Air and this behaviour seems to absent there. At this point in time I can't really tell if this is related to the distribution or the fact that it runs in a VM. Any insights greatly appreciated.

I, as a java web applications developer, am think about possible alternatives. Many seem to have gotten rid of java, so I would not like to develop for an environmet, that users do not have on their computers, and that they are not willing to install for security reasons. • Sony VAIO wireless card not connecting intel 4965AGN

  I'm running a Sony VAIO VGN-CR410E, and recently moved it to Ubuntu from Windows 7. Both my home and work networks (which I maintain) run WPA/WPA2-PSK authentication for security. My wireless network card (intel 4965AGN) will not connect to them unless I am in the same room (kind of defeats the purpose of wireless). The PC is 4 years old and the routers are brand new (last month or so). Had no problems with it with Win7, but Ubuntu just doesn't like the networks. As an IT manager, my laptop needs to work, so any help is appreciated. If this is a duplicate, please let me know of what. I've spent hours searching and nothing has worked. Thanks for your help. (This is my first experience fully relying on Ubuntu). I can see the networks and attempt connection, but it fails authentication. Let me know of any code you need.

  Not sure if here it's the right place to ask, if not - please point me to the right direction. Let's say there's a package, for the sake of real-world example - bind9. In Precise and in Quantal it's version 9.8.1. The original developer (ISC) currently provide versions 9.8.4 which is a bugfix release in the 9.8 line, and 9.9.2 which is a "new features" branch. It looks like when a security issue is encountered, the specific bugfix is backported into 9.8.1. Now the question: Why maintainers don't just update to the latest bugfix release ? Why to backport only certain patches ? Is it intentionally or just there's no maintaner who would take the effort to update to the latest bugfix release ?

• Best strategy for supporting multiple server communication from iPhone/android app?

  I'm making an app that will be used in multiple hospitals in the US. As per HIPAA compliance requirement, every hospital will have its own server that complies with these requirements of ensuring patient data security, etc. Now the task is that the app should communicate with a particular server based on the login info. An additional requirement is that new hospitals(servers) are likely to be added along the way, even after the app is available on the market. So basically, according to some login credentials, the app should communicate with the server of the hospital assigned to that person. One pretty crude way is to set up our own server which links the hospitals with the login info and accordingly, provides a base-url for data exchange. Is there a more efficient way to handle this?

  I'm told to think about caching of images that will be displayed on the page. The images will be repeated throughout the website on different pages and I'm told to figure out the best way to cache these images. There could be few to dozen of images on single page. Here's few questions: Will browser caching work to display the same images across different web pages? Should I rather store images in stringified form in a memory instead, using JavaScript arrays? Store them on hard drive using 'localStorage'? What would be easiest yet best option for this? Are there any other alternatives? How to force cache? Any other information would be greatly appreciated...

  I have a software product. it will probably run on VMs that have no network connection at all. I want the user to pay for each VM the user runs. I thought to ask the user for some kind of hardware ID and provide him with serial that is unique for his machine. But user can just copy the VM image and than have two machines running? So I thought of having a security dongle. But how can I prevent user from running two VM's on the same machine both connected to the same dongle? This should be only basic defense so that actual hacking will be required to breach the license and not only spinning one more VM.

• Internet connection crashes while wifi / lan stay connected

  I am connected to a router by wifi or lan. But every few moments (sometimes seconds, sometimes half an hour) my connection to the internet breaks down. So in one moment I can surf with my firefox and have ping times of 20 ms (wifi) to the google server. And in the next moment I can't open any pages in any browser and the ping shows no new messages first and then "Destination Host Unreachable". This is especially odd as another computer or my smart phone stays connected at the same time to the same network and seems to notice nothing. So I have a problem independend of wifi or lan drivers but with something else. Where should I look for logs that could tell me more information? I can't find some in syslog. Just if I reconnect to the router (wich works for another few moments) there are a lot of informations. But everythin is okay then.

• Ubuntu One isn't syncing in Windows 7

  Ubuntu One was working just fine in friend's computer on Windows 7. Problem is that, suddenly it has stopped syncing. I want to share some observation regarding this problem. Hope this could be helpful to solve the problem. If I upload any file directly on web (using browser), the amount of file size (KB/GB) changed in both places, Web dashboard and Ubuntu One control panel on Windows 7, but I can't find the file on PC. "File sync in progress" hangs on the U1 control panel on windows for indefinite time. If I keep any file in the U1 synced folder, that's not available on the PC and the total amount of file size isn't changed anywhere. "File sync in progress" dialogue is always there, since the starting of the PC. User using the PC with administrative previlage. Hope this problem will be solved quickly.

  I want to make a delicate application of mine (an antivirus actually) open source but I want to have a control on who really obtains the source or not. Preferably they should apply and I or administrators approve their applications. Is there any online platform for this? The main reason for the control/security is to possibly prevent malware makers to easily discover how to bypass the stealth checking methods it utilizes for malware detection. Is there a way to prevent Ubuntu One from changing its startup value? I want it to stay disabled. I haven't found anything relevant in Ubuntu One's settings dialog.

  when I start the computer, makes a big high pitch sound and the only thing I can see on the screen is "[[23" written everywhere . I have to start it always through the recovery mode. Ubuntu desktop screen does not flick, but every window that can maximmize and minimize does it like crazy. Like firefox browser, terminal, vlc..   I can't deploy/manage my Joomla websites On Ubuntu 12.04 Zend Server PHP 5.3.14 due to permissions during Joomla installation/J! extensions installation. All files are unwriteable. Only CHMOD 777 will help but of course it's not resolving the problem due to security issues. I think it's because cgi-fcgi is not shipped with Zend Server (only with Zend Server for Windows) Or maybe there is different solution how to make it work? • 3d js map rendering

  In the past I've done a 2D tile map using HTML, CSS and Javascript. Now I have the task of creating a 3D version using the same technologies - think of it like a space map where all planets have x/y/z positions. Currently, I have no idea to do this. Is there an existing library or something I can modify to do my job? If not, what method of rendering the map should I use? It needs to be as browser independent as possible, so I can't use webgl, flash or canvas. I'm considering plain JS & HTML or SVG (using Raphael for compatibility).
