  • How to set the default page for a .CHM file in HTML Help Workshop?

    - by mengchew0113
When I open the help (.chm) application, I could see table of contents. By default, the first entry in the file is selected, however I couldn't see the corresponding page data. Instead, I see "This program cannot display the web page" (the default error message that comes in IE7).The page is displayed only when I click on any of the contents on the left side. Is there a way of showing the page by default without clicking on the entry? The following code is the .hhp file. [OPTIONS] Compatibility = 1.1 or later Compiled file=Config.chm Contents file=Config.hhc Default topic=D:\apps\bin\Debug\html\Databases.htm Language=0x409 English (United States) Display compile progress=No Title=ETL_Config Documentation [FILES] D:\apps\bin\Debug\html\Databases.htm D:\apps\bin\Debug\html\InstanceInformation.htm

  • Is there a SortedList<T> class in .net ? (not SortedList<Key,Value> which is actually a kind of Sort

    - by Brann
I need to sort some objects according to their contents (in fact according to one of their properties, which is NOT the key and may be duplicated between different objects) .net provides two classes (SortedDictionnary and SortedList), and both are some kind of Dictionaries. The only difference (AFAIK) is that SortedDictionnary uses a binary tree to maintain its state whereas SortedList does not and is accessible via an index. I could achieve what I want using a List, and then using its Sort() method with a custom implementation of IComparer, but it wouldn't be time-efficient as I would sort the whole List each time I insert a new object, whereas a good SortedList would just insert the item at the right position. What I need is a SortedList class with a RefreshPosition(int index) to move only the changed (or inserted) object rather than resorting the whole list each time an object inside changes. Am I missing something obvious ?

  • Does Delphi really handle dynamic classes better than static?

    - by John
Hello, I was told more than once that Delphi handles dynamic classes better than static.Thereby using the following: type Tsomeclass=class(TObject) private procedure proc1; public someint:integer; procedure proc2; end; var someclass:TSomeclass; implementation ... initialization someclass:=TSomeclass.Create; finalization someclass.Free; rather than type Tsomeclass=class private class procedure proc1; public var someint:integer; class procedure proc2; end; 90% of the classes in the project I'm working on have and need only one instance.Do I really have to use the first way for using those classes? Is it better optimized, handled by Delphi? Sorry,I have no arguments to backup this hypothesis, but I want an expert's opinion. Thanks in advance!

  • How to embed a progressbar into a HTML form?

    - by Noah Brainey
    I have this code below and want it to show the progress of a form submission of a file upload. I want it to work on my website visit it through this IP (24.148.156.217). So if you saw the website I want the progress bar to be displayed when the user fills in the information and then hits the submit button. Then the progress bar displays with the time until it's finished. <style> <!-- .hide { position:absolute; visibility:hidden; } .show { position:absolute; visibility:visible; } --> </style> <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> //Progress Bar script- by Todd King ([email protected]) //Modified by JavaScript Kit for NS6, ability to specify duration //Visit JavaScript Kit (http://javascriptkit.com) for script var duration=3 // Specify duration of progress bar in seconds var _progressWidth = 50; // Display width of progress bar. var _progressBar = "|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||" var _progressEnd = 5; var _progressAt = 0; // Create and display the progress dialog. // end: The number of steps to completion function ProgressCreate(end) { // Initialize state variables _progressEnd = end; _progressAt = 0; // Move layer to center of window to show if (document.all) { // Internet Explorer progress.className = 'show'; progress.style.left = (document.body.clientWidth/2) - (progress.offsetWidth/2); progress.style.top = document.body.scrollTop+(document.body.clientHeight/2) - (progress.offsetHeight/2); } else if (document.layers) { // Netscape document.progress.visibility = true; document.progress.left = (window.innerWidth/2) - 100+"px"; document.progress.top = pageYOffset+(window.innerHeight/2) - 40+"px"; } else if (document.getElementById) { // Netscape 6+ document.getElementById("progress").className = 'show'; document.getElementById("progress").style.left = (window.innerWidth/2)- 100+"px"; document.getElementById("progress").style.top = pageYOffset+(window.innerHeight/2) - 40+"px"; } ProgressUpdate(); // Initialize bar } // Hide the progress layer function ProgressDestroy() { // Move off screen to hide if (document.all) { // Internet Explorer progress.className = 'hide'; } else if (document.layers) { // Netscape document.progress.visibility = false; } else if (document.getElementById) { // Netscape 6+ document.getElementById("progress").className = 'hide'; } } // Increment the progress dialog one step function ProgressStepIt() { _progressAt++; if(_progressAt > _progressEnd) _progressAt = _progressAt % _progressEnd; ProgressUpdate(); } // Update the progress dialog with the current state function ProgressUpdate() { var n = (_progressWidth / _progressEnd) * _progressAt; if (document.all) { // Internet Explorer var bar = dialog.bar; } else if (document.layers) { // Netscape var bar = document.layers["progress"].document.forms["dialog"].bar; n = n * 0.55; // characters are larger } else if (document.getElementById){ var bar=document.getElementById("bar") } var temp = _progressBar.substring(0, n); bar.value = temp; } // Demonstrate a use of the progress dialog. function Demo() { ProgressCreate(10); window.setTimeout("Click()", 100); } function Click() { if(_progressAt >= _progressEnd) { ProgressDestroy(); return; } ProgressStepIt(); window.setTimeout("Click()", (duration-1)*1000/10); } function CallJS(jsStr) { //v2.0 return eval(jsStr) } </script> <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> // Create layer for progress dialog document.write("<span id=\"progress\" class=\"hide\">"); document.write("<FORM name=dialog id=dialog>"); document.write("<TABLE border=2 bgcolor=\"#FFFFCC\">"); document.write("<TR><TD ALIGN=\"center\">"); document.write("Progress<BR>"); document.write("<input type=text name=\"bar\" id=\"bar\" size=\"" + _progressWidth/2 + "\""); if(document.all||document.getElementById) // Microsoft, NS6 document.write(" bar.style=\"color:navy;\">"); else // Netscape document.write(">"); document.write("</TD></TR>"); document.write("</TABLE>"); document.write("</FORM>"); document.write("</span>"); ProgressDestroy(); // Hides </script> <form name="form1" method="post"> <center> <input type="button" name="Demo" value="Display progress" onClick="CallJS('Demo()')"> </center> </form> <a href="javascript:CallJS('Demo()')">Text link example</a>

  • ASP.NET 1.0 site error after upgrade to VS.NET 2010

    - by Keith
Help. I installed VS.NET 2010 and now my existing ASP.NET MVC application won't run. I checked that the 1.0 version of System.Web.Mvc is still referenced but when I browse my application, I get an error like this: "Compiler Error Message: CS1579: foreach statement cannot operate on variables of type 'object' because 'object' does not contain a public definition for 'GetEnumerator'". My partial view has this declaration: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<List<ProductModel" %> //various import statements <div <% foreach (var category in Model.Categories) { % <span<%= category.Name %</span <span<%= category.Market%</span <% } % </div For what it's worth, the source view shows ViewUserControl in red and gives a tool tip reading "Cannot resolve symbol 'ViewUserControl'". My working code didn't change, the only delta is that I upgraded to VS.NET 2010 (which includes MVC 2.0); I'm sure something is not referenced correctly but I cannot figure out what's going on.

  • Porting Java app to Go - any advice?

    - by Devrim
We want to rewrite kodingen.com backend with Go which currently is Java, running as daemon using jsvc. I have never touched any C in my life, am only experienced in Java so I don't know if this is something that I should even start. However, task is pretty simple read shell commands from mysql database queue and execute them in parallel save each shell output to the database that's it. So these simple requirements gives me hope that I can start using this wonderful language. What would you advise?

  • Problem with writing if condition

    - by Himadri
I have two decimal numbers. I want those number to be same upto 4 decimal points without rounding. If numbers are different I want 2nd number to be replaced by 1st. What if condition should I write? Eg, 1. num1 = 0.94618976 num2 = 0.94620239 If we round these numbers upto 4 decimal then we get 0.9462 same number, but I don't want to round these numbers. 2. num1 = 0.94620239 num2 = 0.94639125 The one way I found is take absolute difference of both numbers say diff and then check the value. My problem is of checking the range of diff. I am using delphi but you can answer in any language.Thank You.

  • Obj-C Error: Expected expression before ...... (why?)

    - by Horatiu Paraschiv
Hi I have an enum declared like this: typedef enum { Top, Bottom, Center } UIItemAlignment; In my code I try to use it like this: item.alignment = UIItemAlignment.Top; I get an error like this: " Expected expression before 'UIItemAlignment' " If I use only: item.alignment = Top; everything works fine but why do I get this error if I try to use it the other way? _alignment is an NSInteger and it has a property declared like this @property (readwrite) NSInteger alignment; and I synthesized it in my implementation file. So my question is, why do I get this error?

  • How to click through JGlassPane With MouseListener to UI behind it

    - by Epicmaster
I have a JFrame and a bunch of JComponents on top of the JFrame. I need to make use of the JGlassPane and I used this implementation to set it up. JPanel glass = new JPanel(); frame.setGlassPane(glass); glass.setVisible(true); glass.setOpaque(false); After doing so I can't select any JButtons or other JComponents under the JGlassPane. Is there a way to have only the components on the GlassPane selectable while still having the ability to select components under the GlassPane? Edit I forgot to mention (not knowing this would be relevant) that I did attach both a MouseListener and a MouseMotionListener to the glass pane. Is there a way to pass the Mouse Events to other components and only use them when needed?

  • Handling Custom Protocols

    - by nomad311
I'm looking to respond to an event from a web browser, hopefully any web browser. I'm working solely on windows and I came to the conclusion a custom protocol (I.E. myprot://collection/of/strings) is the best approach here (any objections?). But, handling an instance of this protocol seems to be a little less straight-forward. All I need is that collection of strings auto-magically passed to my already running application! (the app will only respond to these links while in a specific waiting state) So answer me this, if you can, Whats the 'popular' method of handling them or better yet Whats the 'best' (subjective - I know) way to do it? Although your answers don't need to be specific to my language, I am using Delphi for development. Thanks!

  • Does this feature exist? Defining my own curly brackets in C#

    - by Carlos
You'll appreciate the following two syntactic sugars: lock(obj) { //Code } same as: Monitor.Enter(obj) try { //Code } finally { Monitor.Exit(obj) } and using(var adapt = new adapter()){ //Code2 } same as: var adapt= new adapter() try{ //Code2 } finally{ adapt.Dispose() } Clearly the first example in each case is more readable. Is there a way to define this kind of thing myself, either in the C# language, or in the IDE? The reason I ask is that there are many similar usages (of the long kind) that would benefit from this, eg. if you're using ReaderWriterLockSlim, you want something pretty similar.

  • Coding Standards

    - by kevchadders
For those of us that have programmed enough I’m sure we have come across many different flavours of coding standards that you can use when it comes to programming. e.g. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms229042.aspx You might derive your coding standards for the current company you work for or from the original author of the code you’re working on. Coding styles are often used for specific program languages and some styles in one coding language might not be considered appropriate for others. Of course some coding standards can be applied across many different program languages. My question is do you have any good advice/links yourselves to a set of coding standards that you would recommend to others, or best practices to follow? Thank you for your time. EDIT: As we know there are many related articles on this subject, but C# Coding standard / Best practices in SO has some very useful links in there which is worth a visit. (Check out the 2 links on .NET/C# guidelines by ESV - Accepted Answer)

  • viewDidLoad never called in Sub-classed UIViewController

    - by Steve
I've run into some trouble with loading a sub-classed UIViewController from a nib. My viewDidLoad function is never called. The super-class has no nib, but the sub-classes each have their own. i.e. @interface SuperClass : UIViewController { } @end @interface SubClass : SuperClass{ } @end @implementation SubClass - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil]; if (self) { } return self; } - (void)viewDidLoad{ // Never called } The view is loaded from a nib as follows: SubClass *scvc = [[SubClass alloc] initWithNibName:@"SubClass" bundle:nil]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:scvc animated:YES]; [scvc release]; There is a nib file with this name and it has it's file owner's class set properly. viewDidLoad is not called in the child or super. Any ideas?

  • Why doesn't IronRuby have the same tools that IronPython does?

    - by rsteckly
Hi, I've been using Ruby as my main scripting language for years but switched to .NET several years ago. I'd like to continue using Ruby (primarily for testing) BUT the toolset for IronRuby is really nonexistent. Why? In Python, meanwhile, there are project templates and full intellisense support. Why isn't there something like that for IronRuby? The only thing I've been able to find on it is "there are no plans for VS integration at this time." Why???

  • Need Ontology of software engineering terms

    - by v.rekha
I'm trying to implement a Question Answering System based on software engineering ontology. This is a [class/university?] project; it will use the java language. Can you please help me locate software engineering ontologies i.e. ontologies [or even taxonomies / folksonomies ?] that include words and concepts found in the domain of Software Engineering. Editor's note: I took the liberty of rewriting this question. It was initially poorly worded and being misunderstood was closed. Maybe it can be reopen, for it is programming related and of interest to some SO contributors. According to this dupe: the poster is looking for an OWL resource: quote, "I need software engineering ontology.owl file."

  • Frameworks And 'traditional' coding

    - by YsoL8
Hello Sorry if this too open ended for this forum, but here goes. I mostly use languages such as PHP and Javascript without frameworks (e.g Jquery, Drupal, CakePHP). The only real exception to this for me, is Wordpress when 'traditional' coding is slower for building information sites. I've dabbled with several frameworks over the past year and despite everyone else's (seemingly) good experiences with them, I seem to of hit a roadblock. My basic problem is that for the amount of time invested in effectively relearning a language, I don't get a lot in return. Jqeury as an example. There is really very little in that, that I couldn't accomplish easily with a few getElement.. commands. So my question is, what advantages do frameworks offer over previous coding styles? Thanks from 2003 guy!

  • Interview - Program on Computer

    - by Gilad Naor
Spent some time searching, couldn't find exactly what I'm after. We like giving hands-on programming exercises as part of the interview process. The interviewee gets a laptop, with the editor and compiler of his choice. He or she then get a programming exercise and has about an hour to code it. Depending on the nature of the question, internet access is either allowed or forbidden. I'm looking for good general questions for a junior developer. I don't care what language they choose to program in. C++ is as good as Python or Scheme, as long as (s)he can program in it (this rules out "can you write a correct copy-constructor" style questions). I just want to see how they code, if their code is self-documenting, if they write tests, check edge-cases, etc. What kind of questions would you ask?

  • What database works well with 200+GB of data?

    - by taw
I've been using mysql (with innodb; on Amazon rds) because it's sort of universal default, but it's been ridiculously under-performing, and tweaking it only delays the inevitable. The data is mostly relatively short (<1kB of bytes each) blobs information about 100Ms of urls. There is (or should be, mysql cannot seem to handle it) very high amount of insert / update / retrieve but few complex queries - not that complex queries wouldn't be useful, but because mysql is so slow that it's far faster to get the data out, process it locally, and cache the results somewhere. I can keep tweaking mysql and throwing more hardware at it, but it seems increasingly futile. So what are the options? SQL/relational model/etc. optional - anything will do as long as it's fast, networked, and language-independent.

  • JQuery. Hide elements before they rendered. Best practice

    - by Andrew Florko
Hello everybody, I want to generate html layout with areas (divs, spans) that can be shown/hidden conditionally. These areas are hidden by default. If I call .hide method with jquery on document.ready these areas may blink (browsers render partially loaded documents). So I apply "display: none" style in html layout. I wonder what is the best practice to avoid blinking, because applying "display:none" breaks incapsulation rule - I know what jquery does with hide/show and use it. If jquery's hiding/showing implementation will change one day, I'll get the whole site unworkable. Thank you in advance

  • How to use MOV instruction in ARM with an immediate number as the second operand

    - by Summer_More_More_Tea
Hi everyone: I just begin to study ARM assembly language, and am not clear about how to use MOV to transfer an immediate number into a register. From both the ARM reference manual and my textbook, it's said that range of immediate number following MOV instruction is 0-255. But when I test on my own PC in ADS 1.2 IDE, instruction MOV R2, #0xFFFFFFFF performs well. Isn't number 0xFFFFFFFF out of range according to the specification? Hope someone can give me a hand. Regards.

  • making use of c++ to speed up php

    - by Ygam
I saw this post on Sitepoint quoting a statement by Rasmus Lerdorf which goes (according to Sitepoint) as follows: "How can you make PHP fast? Well, you can’t" was his quick answer. PHP is simply not fast enough to scale to Yahoo levels. PHP was never meant for those sorts of tasks. "Any script based language is simply not fast enough". To get the speed that is necessary for truly massive web systems you have to use compiled C++ extensions to get true, scaleable architecture. That is what Yahoo does and so do many other PHP heavyweights. Intrigued by the statement (not to mention the fact that up to now, all I was doing in PHP was small database-based apps), I was wondering how I could "use compiled C++ extensions" with PHP. Any ideas or resources?

  • Tag/Keyword based recommendation

    - by Hellnar
Hello I am wondering what algorithm would be clever to use for a tag driven e-commerce enviroment: Each item has several tags. IE: Item name: "Metallica - Black Album CD", Tags: "metallica", "black-album", "rock", "music" Each user has several tags and friends(other users) bound to them. IE: Username: "testguy", Interests: "python", "rock", "metal", "computer-science" Friends: "testguy2", "testguy3" I need to generate recommendations to such users by checking their interest tags and generating recommendations in a sophisticated way. Ideas: A Hybrid recommendation algorithm can be used as each user has friends.(mixture of collaborative + context based recommendations). Maybe using user tags, similar users (peers) can be found to generate recommendations. Maybe directly matching tags between users and items via tags. Any suggestion is welcome. Any python based library is also welcome as I will be doing this experimental engine on python language.

  • Last in First out UDP structure in MatLab.

    - by D Zondervan
I am using MatLabs UDP function in their instrument control toolbox to send data packets from one computer to another. The first computer is constantly updating data values and sending them to the other computer, and I want that computer to be able to query the first one for the most recent values whenever it needs them. However, the default implementation of the UDP send and receive in MatLab is a FIFO structure- the first packet I send is the first the other computer receives when they execute the "fscanf" function. I want the last packet I sent to be the one the fscanf function returns. Is this possible or do I need to use a different protocol?
