  • find: What's up with basename and dirname?

    I'm using find for a task and I noticed that when I do something like this: find `pwd` -name "file.ext" -exec echo $(dirname {}) \; it will give you dots only for each match. When you s/dirname/basename in that command you get the full pathnames. Am I screwing something up here or is this expected behavior? I'm used to basename giving you the name of the file (in this case "file.ext") and dirname giving you the rest of the path.

  • Solr admin with only JRE possible?

    I have installed JRE on my Ubuntu server. However, not JDK. When I execute solr to start, everything seems fine. But I cant access the solr/admin page. Wonder if this is possible without the JDK? Or do I have to have JDK installed? Thanks

  • Importing a Mercurial repository automatically (e.g. SVN Externals)

    I have a project that I am developing built off CodeIgniter. The main part of the project is a private system I am creating, but I want to add it to source control, to gain all the associated goodies. Now I'm using Mercurial, so I did the whole hg init bit, so I've got the repository set up. Now, one of the things I've done is to make a library for CodeIgniter, which I use in this project. Now I want to make this library open, so I need a separate repo for that. For anyone unfamiliar with CodeIgniter library development, here's a reference: application /config <- configuration files /libraries <- library logic in here Now I will probably develop a few more libraries in the course of this project, so I can't just dump a repo in the application folder without clumping them all together. What I did was this: dev/ci/library <- library here dev/project <- project here Now in both of those folders, I have made a repository. What I want to do is make the project repository automatically reference the library repository, so I can have a private and a public repository, as I explained earlier. The main way to do this, I have read, is to use subrepositories, but I can only find examples on nested ones (which are unclear anyway, I find). How do I make it reference another repository like svn:externals?

    Is it possible to use ffmpeg create a video from a set of sequences, where the number does not start from zero? For example, I have some images [test_100.jpg, test_101.jpg, test_102.jpg, ..., test_200.jpg], and I want to convert them to a video. I tried the following command, but it didn't work (it seems the number should start from zero): ffmpeg -i test_%d.jpg -vcodec mpeg4 test.avi Any advise?

    We have the following line of code: printf("%d\n", toc->runlist.next); printf("%d\n", toc->runlist.next); These are the definitions: typedef struct thread_overview_control{ int id[NR_UTHREADS]; list_t runlist; int active_counter; int main_thread; int need_resched; } thread_overview_control; thread_overview_control* toc; What I'm trying to do is implement user threads. For some reason the output of the above code at the point where our test run crushes is: 12345678 //some address 0 //NOW IT'S NULL?!?!?! How can this happen?? All we do is read a variable. And the strange thing is, without printf's there are no crashes. What's going on?

  • Which not displaying location of executible actually run.

    I have a version of SVN on my system in /usr/bin/svn. This is too old to use with some repositories so I compiled a newer version in /home/user/built/bin/svn which works fine. I added this to my PATH so it should be run first. Typing which svn produces /home/user/built/bin/svn however typing svn --version reveals that it us using the old version still. if I run /home/user/built/bin/svn --version then the correct version is displayed. Since the custom version is first in my $PATH, and which lists it first why is the older version being invoked when I run svn? I thought which used your $PATH to find executables in the same fashion as the shell? [Edit] Type gives: type svn svn is hashed (/usr/bin/svn) Is this the problem?

It must be a full match not partially - if the file contains this host name: localhost searching for "ho" will fail and it will be added to the end of the file. another option is a delete: again awk receives host name argument and it should remove it from the file if exists.   • Good article about File- and Folder Permissions on production server?

    I have a classifieds website, and users may post classifieds, add images, remove classifieds etc etc... I have no idea what to set the permissions to on folders. For instance, a php script which I have uploads a file to a directory. What would you have set the directory permissions to? Nobody need access to the directory, only the php script... Just wonder if anybody has a good (brief) article about setting the "right" permissions? Thanks

  • gcc compiled binaries w/different sizes?

    If the same code is built at different times w/gcc, the resulting binary will have different contents. OK, I'm not wild about that, but that's what it is. However, I've recently run into a situation where the same code, built with the same version of gcc, is generating a binary with a different size than a prior build (by about 1900 bytes). Does anyone have any idea what may be causing either of these situations? Is this some kind of ELF issue? Are there any tools out there (other than ldd) that can be used to dump contents of binaries to see what exactly is different? Thanks in advance.

  • htaccess rewrite; Should I change all relative links or not?

    I have a rewrite in htaccess which makes this: domain.com/ad.php?ad_id=bmw_m3_328942948 into this: domain.com/ads/bmw_m3_328942948 Problem is the links which are relative to the file wont work... for instance if a link is pointing at '/bin/edit.php' like this originally: domain.com/bin/edit.php // WORKS but after the rewrite the link wants to point here instead: domain.com/ads/bin/edit.php // NOT WORK - NOTE THE /ads/ DOESN'T EXIST IN REALITY Do you understand my issue? What is done about this?     I am working with a file upload script. I am currently uploading a file and then trying to echo out an anchor linking to that file, but since I used mkdir() with 0700 permissions to upload the file, it won't allow me access to view the file. I am pretty sure the problem I am experiencing is because of the file permission code I used. The problem is I just don't know what all the different file permission codes are and what they mean. Can somebody please list out all the different file permissions and what they each do?
