• An MP3 parser to extract numbered frames?

  I am writing a streaming application for MP3 (CBR). It is all passthru, meaning I don't have to decode/encode, I just need to pass on the data as I see it come through. I want to be able to count the MP3 frames as they passthru (and some other stuff like throughput calculations). According to the MP3 frame header spec, the sync word appears to be 11 bits of 1s, however I notice (naturally) that the frame payload which I should safely assume to be binary and thus it is not odd at all to see 11 1s in sequence. My questions: Is there a Unix/Linux MP3 parser utility (dd-style) that can pull numbered frames from an MP3 file/pipe? Any perl wisdom here? How does one delineate an MP3 header block from any other binary payload data? and lastly: Is a constant bitrate (CBR) MP3 defined by payload bytes or are the header bytes included in the aggregate # of bytes/bits per any given timeslice? • How to run a COM .dll on a remote server?

  I have a legacy 3rd party COM .dll that is used to provide an Excel-callable interface to a proprietary database product. The .dll runs on the same physical machine as Excel. I have a need to execute the .dll (and the database it is calling) on a remote server while still maintaining simple Excel callability from the client. I'm totally confused by all the different MS technologies that seem to hint there is an easy way to do this. Can someone please point me in the right direction (easier is better)?

  I am currently working on kerberoes, and for now have this doubt on PAC in MS-KILE kerberoes extension. Can pac included in pactype strcuture withtin authorization data, is meant for client to decrypt and decode. It seems (if my understanding is correct), that PAC is encrypted with target server's encryption key, which is known only to kdc and target server, and therefore, client just needs to forward that to server when requesting a service, and isn't suppose to decrypt and extract details about its credentails. Is there a way to try to decrypt this on the fly? ( is there sufficient information available in AS-REP for me extract and decrypt this?

  Here's a homework problem: Is L_4 Regular? Let L_4 = L*, where L={0^i1^i | i>=1}. I know L is non-regular and I know that Kleene Star is a closed operation, so my assumption is that L_4 is non-regular. However my professor provided an example of the above in which L = {0^p | p is prime}, which he said was regular by proving that L* was equal to L(000* + e) by saying each was a subset of one another (e in this case means the empty word). So his method involved forming a regex of 0^p, but how I can do that when I essentially have one already?

• Hudson + gitolite + virtual host on staging server

  I have a Ubuntu server which I want to be my continous integration server (for the Zend Application based projects) and the staging server as well. The team is pushing source files to the repository: /home/git/repositories/testing.git Then Hudson does the build, and the master branch is exported (maybe cloned is a better word) by git hudson plugin to: /var/lib/hudson/jobs/test/workspace/ The workspace contains .git folder as well, which is not necessary on my staging website. How do you set up virtual host to see the staging version of the content of the repository? Does the virtual host point to the workspace, or shall I export the files to another directory? What about the permissions and security? Hudson is the owner of all the workspace files. Do I have to do some post-build actions to set up access? P.S. If this question is more apropriate to serverfault, please migrate.

• Does anyone know of a vim plugin or script to convert special characters to their corresponding HTML

  I develop websites for corporate clients, so we see the ®, ™, etc. chars a whole lot. Sometimes I paste in huge blocks of copy, which might even contain pretty quotes (“ ”) or other strange characters from word processors. So, my question is this: Does anyone know of a vim plugin or script that can, in one fell swoop, convert all these characters to html entities? I think this covers all the bases of the entities it would be nice to have: http://web.forret.com/tools/charmap.asp So, for the characters above, they would be replaced with &reg;, &trade;, &ldquo;, &rdquo;, etc. I tried the htmlspecialchars vimball (http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=2377), but no dice. It only performs its replacement like the PHP htmlsepcialchars function, replacing html-conflicting characters, and doesn't cover any additional special characters.

  Hi there, I have a hardware here, wich communicates over serial port. I use MS Visual C++ 2010, and I want to send a command: <-S-> I am doing this: SerialPort^ serialPort = gcnew SerialPort(portName , 9600, Parity::None, 8, StopBits::One); serialPort->Open(); serialPort->WriteLine("<-S->"); serialPort->Close(); But the command that goes out is <-S->., and not <-S-> (please notice the point that is attached to the outgoing command). I use Free Serial Port Monitor to watch my ingoing/outcoming data. So how can I get rid of that point in <-S->. ? This is what is going out: 3C 2D 53 2D 3E 0A = <-S-.   I have a long string of comments that I'd like to split into multiple lines. It's currently displayed as <%= Html.Encode(item.important_notes) %> I've played with using .Substring to split it, but can't figure out how to prevent it from splitting in the middle of a word. Instead of characters 1-100 on line 1 and 101-200 on line 2, I'd like to do something like character 1 through the last space before character 100 on line one. That character through the last space before the next 100 characters on line 2, etc. What is the best way to do this? EDIT: using ASP.NET-MVC

• IF/ELSE makes stored procedure not return a result set

  I have a stored procedure that needs to return something from one of two databases: IF @x = 1 SELECT @y FROM Table_A ELSE IF @x = 2 SELECT @y FROM Table_B Either SELECT alone will return what I want, but adding the IF/ELSE makes it stop returning anything. I tried: IF @x = 1 RETURN SELECT @y FROM Table_A ELSE IF @x = 2 RETURN SELECT @y FROM Table_B But that causes a syntax error. The two options I see are both horrible: Do a UNION and make sure that only one side has any results: SELECT @y FROM Table_A WHERE @x = 1 UNION SELECT @y FROM Table_B WHERE @x = 2 Create a temporary table to store one row in, and create and delete it every time I run this procedure (lots). Neither solution is elegant, and I assume they would both be horrible for performance (unless MS SQL is smart enough not to search the tables when the WHERE class is always false). Is there anything else I can do? Is option 1 not as bad as I think?

  I have the following XML <Answer> <Label>FCVCMileage</Label> <Value>3258</Value> <Iteration>0</Iteration> <DataType>NUMBER</DataType> </Answer> And need to get the Value underneath the Mileage label. However the 4 letter prefix to Mileage could be any 1 of 8 different prefixes. I know I could find the value by testing for every combination using xsl:if or xsl:choose but is there a more elegant way that would work similar to the following SQL and also wouldn't need changes to code being made if other prefixes were added. WHERE label LIKE '%Mileage' NB. There will only ever be 1 label element containing the word Mileage Cheers!

• Can i configure emacs to use gdb like a graphical debugger?

  I'm pretty sure that this how other IDE's do it, e.g. on windows eclipse uses the output of gdb from MinGW (the windows port of GNU toolchain) to map where execution is in the source code and what values variables hold, etc. I'm stuck using gdb via a script that prepares our application in a chroot and does some other bootstrap for debug purposes. Once the script starts moving, the output is all gdb. Is there any way that I can configure emacs so that it will use gdb's output and allow for a sort of graphical debugger, comparable to that of eclipse or ms visual studio?

• C++: Why does space always terminate a string when read?

  Using type std::string to accept a sentence, for practise (I haven't worked with strings in C++ much) I'm checking if a character is a vowel or not. I got this: for(i = 0; i <= analyse.length(); i++) { if(analyse[i] == 'a' || analyse[i] == 'e' [..etc..]) { ...vowels++; } else { ... ...consenents++; } This works fine if the string is all one word, but the second I add a space (IE: aeio aatest) it will only count the first block and count the space as a consenent, and quit reading the sentence (exiting the for loop or something). Does a space count as no character == null? Or some oddity with std::string?, It would be helpful to know why that is happening!

• Trouble Getting a Locally Hosted Copy of the English Language Wiktionary to include the Translations Sections

  I used MWDumper - http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Mwdumper - to import the xml dump of the English Language Wiktionary (specifically the file named enwiktionary-20120930-pages-meta-current.xml,) to my local server. I have found that under the Translations section (on each page for each English word,) next to the name of each language where I should be able to see the definition in a foreign language, I instead see Template:Tø, Template:T+, or Template:T- and I am not sure why this is. As an experiment, I also used WikiTaxi - http://www.yunqa.de/delphi/doku.php/products/wikitaxi/index - with the exact same XML dump and did not have this problem when viewing under WikiTaxi.exe. I have been searching through mediawiki.org looking for the answer, but have so far not been successful. I appreciate your help

  So I have been googleing around for a couple of days but I have not found a solution so far, so I'm turning to you guys with hope that there even is a possible solution for this. I need to, at the end of each line in a textarea add a linebreak before it is sent to PHP. That is, even if the user does not press enter but if a word get's cut of or it just jumps down a row because it has filled the with of the textarea. And I need to do so with jQuery or Javascript. • How to use NGramTokenizerFactory or NGramFilterFactory?

  Hi, Recently, I am studying how to store and index using Solr. I want to do facet.prefix search. With whitespace tokenizer, "Where are you" will be splited into three words and indexed. If I search facet.prefix="where are", no result will be returned. I google and found NGramFilterFactory can help me. But when I apply this filter factory, I found the result is "w, h, e, ..., wh, ..", which split the sentence by character, not by token word. I use the parameters maxGramSize and minGramSize, set to 1 and 3. Does the NGramFilterFactory work right? Should I add some other parameters? Is there some other filter factories which can help me? • Using excel, how can I count the number of cells in a column containing the text "true" or "false"?

  I have a spreadsheet that has a column of cells where each cell contains a single work. I would like to count the occurrences of some words. I can use the COUNTIF function for most words, but if the word is "true" or "false", I get 0. A B 1 apples 2 2 true 0 3 false 0 4 oranges 1 5 apples In the above spreadsheet table, I have these formulas in cells B1, B2, B3 and B4: =COUNTIF(A1:A5,"apples") =COUNTIF(A1:A5,"true") =COUNTIF(A1:A5,"false") =COUNTIF(A1:A5,"oranges) As you can see, I can count apples, but not true or false. I have also tried this: =COUNTIF(A1:A5,TRUE) But that does not work either. Note -- I am using Excel 2007.

• How do I effectively store a connection string in machine.config only?

  We are moving to an environment with multiple engines of MS SQL running on the same server (a test engine and a production engine). We also have separate test and production web servers, and would like for our asp.net applications to "magically" use the test database engine on the test web server and the production database engine on the production web servers. We would like to store the connection strings in machine.config rather than in web.config, but when we put it in machine.config, visual studio's IDE (particularly with datasets) does not recognize that the machine.config contains the connection. Does anyone know of a solution for displaying these machine.config connection strings in visual studio, or of a different solution that would accommodate for this? Thanks.

  I have design a database. Theres no columns with indexing, nor any code for optimizing. I am positive i should index certain columns since i search them a lot. My question is HOW do i test if any part of my database will be slow? ATM I am using sqlite and i will be switching to either MS Sql or MySql based on my host provider. Will creating 100,000 records in each table be enough? Or will that always be fast in sqlite and i need to do 1mil? Do i need 10mil before a database will become slow? Also how do i time it? I am using C# so should i use StopWatch or is there a ADO.NET/Sqlite function i should use?

• Data Usage Checker Tools

  Hey All, I am about to begin a project for a new client, and am worried about a few things concerning data usage on their internet plan. We're in an area where most of the major networks don't cover the area, and the ones that do, have very expensive plans, with very low data allowance per month. I need to develop an app, but part of the problem lies with checking database values every 30 seconds. It's pretty important that this check is happening every 30 seconds, as the database is actually updated all day everyday, approx. every 5seconds (apparently). Each row in the database consists of about a page full of text if you were to paste it into MS Word. So, are there any logical ways of minimizing data usage in my case, and also how am I able to see exactly how much data is used just to establish a connection to the database? Are there any tools for this kind of info? Thanks :)
