  • Why is my Current Printer unavailable in Office ?

    Whenever I try to print any document from Microsoft Office 2007 in Windows Vista 64-bit there is a great possibility that the print job will fail with the following error message: Current printer is unavailable. Select another printer. Only problem is no printer works, not even Bullzip PDF Printer. The only way to resolve this that I have found so far is a reboot, but I don't want to do that all the time. I am using Windows Vista 64-bit. I've had the problem using both SP1 and SP2. The problem occurs on both locally installed and network printers, as well as the virtual printer Bullzip PDF Printer. My primary source of the problem has been Excel, but the error has also occurred in Word. Changing the default printer and restarting the Microsoft Office-application solves this temporarily, but not permanently. Google:ing the error message returns a lot of questions but no solutions, so seems like a frequent problem. What could be a permanent solution for this problem? UPDATE: It seems that my problem stems from me opening MS Office applications by opening a document from Total Commander with administrative rights. This somehow makes the applications not find the printers. Opening MS Office applications either from the Start menu or by opening a document in a non-administrator Explorer allows me to print.

    I wanted to ask a multi-part question. Does Comcast Cable Internet services record MAC Addresses of the Router behind the cable modem. I know they record it for the modem itself. But is there a way for the Modem/Comcast to relay and keep logs of the MAC ID of the Router itself? Then does a windows operating system Log the MAC ID of the Router when its connected to it? If so where do I locate and purge this? Please let me know all areas where it is Logged within the operating system. Thank you!

    GNU Screen (screen) behaves differently on OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard) compared to Linux (at least Ubuntu, Red Hat, and Gentoo) and OS X 10.4 (Tiger). In 10.5 and 10.6, new screens (made with screen or ^A c) always places me in my home directory ~. In Linux and OS X Tiger, new screens have a pwd of wherever the screen was created originally.     I have an interesting issue that has me stumped. Not that I'm a computer whiz or anything. I have a multi-boot system with two hard drives: one drive has CentOS and Windows XP 64-bit and the other drive has Windows XP 32-bit. CentOS grub boot loader works great, and I have it set to default to Windows. But this is the problem. My boot.ini file seems to be in order, yet it still gives an error if I choose the default OS (which, consequently, is XP32): Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrput: (Windows root) \system32\ntoskrnl.exe. Please re-install a copy of the above file. But if I choose the actual boot ID, i.e., toggle to the Windows XP Pro selection it boots just fine.   • How to actually defragment a JFFS2 filesystem

    I have searched all over the Internet, including on a number of StackExchange forums, for a workable method for defragmenting a JFFS2 filesystem and cannot find an answer. The system in question has a 256MB NAND flash part. It is being accessed as a MTD device which is divided into three partitions. The third partition is where the root file system is being stored as a JFFS2 file system. The issue is that writes to the root file system have non-deterministic performance due to the usual issues of the JFFS2 garbage collector deciding to run at the worst possible times. When that happens, the product is hung for some unknown length of time while the garbage collector (and pdflush) run. Changing the file system isn't an option. The solution needs to be something that can run during off-hours that after having been run results in more predictable write performance. Right now I am working on a program that will attempt to force the garbage collector to run, then delete the file with the hope that all of the freed nodes are suddenly more readily available and make writes perform better. Thoughts?

    Hi there, I have the Sony DR-BT50 wireless headphones. I've been able to successfully pair them to my iPhone and play music through them, but no such luck with my PC. I can add it to the bluetooth devices, but when the "Driver Software Installation" screen comes up, I get a red X and "No driver found". Any ideas how to fix this? (I have a bluetooth keyboard & mouse paired successfully, so it's not a problem with my laptop's bluetooth.)

This can be through a USB hub or through multiple USB connectors on the device itself. Bittorrent support would be nice, but this isn't a deal-breaker. Filesystem support for at least NTFS or FAT32. I'd prefer to not have to reformat to use the device, but this is also not a deal-breaker. Here is what I am NOT looking for: I'm NOT looking for a NAS enclosure. I already have a couple of spare external USB drives that I'd like to use. I'm NOT looking for a networked USB hub like the one mentioned here. Network USB hubs only allow access to a drive from one PC at a time. I'm NOT looking for a wireless router with a NAS built in. I already have a wireless router, and I'd rather not go through the hassle of replacing it if possible. What I've looked at so far PogoPlug: This supports multiple devices via a USB hub, but there's not Bittorrent support. It's $99.00, so I may end up going with this and hope that they patch in Bittorrent support later. Addonics NAS Adapter: This supports only one device per adapter, so it's a non-starter. SimpleNET NAS Head USB 2.0 Portable Dongle: I'm not 100% sure this supports multiple devices. Plus there doesn't seem to be any Bittorrent support. I'll try to update this post as I explore other devices.

    I have XP Mode installed fine, but the shipped Windows XP installation is too heavy. I tried to install a light XP using my ASUS Eee PC. After installation, I have to install a few missing drivers and everything worked OK except I can't copy and paste between host and guest operating system. I checked Device Manager and found the Virtual PC Integration Device is not installed correctly. I can't find any driver for that. How can I fix this problem?

  • SATA-II motherboard and drives but only connected at SATA-I

    I have an Abit AB9 QuadGT motherboard which has a SATA-II controller. Connected to it I have a Kingston SSDNow V Series 64GB as boot drive and a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 as a data drive. I also have 2 x Optiarc AD-7170S DVD burners attached by SATA. Both SSD and HDD are SATA-II and the optical drives are SATA-I. I have just run CrystalDiskInfo and this is reporting that both SSD and HDD are connected at SATA-I (1.5 Gbps), not SATA-II (3.0 Gbps). I have the BIOS set up to use SATA drives in IDE mode. So a few questions: Is CrystalDiskInfo reporting correctly? Are the optical drives causing the SSD & HDD to connect at the slower rate? Is there any setting to force the SSD & HDD to use SATA-II? I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate.

  • Can I delete EFI System Partition without harming other data on drive?

    I have three external HDD's in a USB enclosure. After a recent upgrade to Win7, during which these three drives were actually installed inside the PC tower, two of the three drives now have a 200MB EFI partition, and the two drives do not show up as usable drives under either Win7 or Snow Leopard. One of the drives is empty; the other one, however, has a bunch of stuff on it that I want to save if possible. My question is, how can I get back to this data? Can I simply delete the EFI partition, and all will be well? Or do I have to do something trickier? Or am I just hosed?

  • How can I recover data from a dmg that cannot mount?

    I backed up a hard drive in a dmg, then reformatted the hard drive. (I had deleted the efi partition before which was preventing me from reinstalling the operation system). When I tried use the restore function in disk utility it gave an input/output error. I get this error with anything I do to the image including mounting, converting, attaching, verifying, scanning, and getting info through hdiutil imageinfo. I have run all of these with hdiutil and the -noverify, -nomount, and -ignorebadchecksums flags. When I copy the image onto another disk/partition I get a different error: something like "No filesystem". I cannot repair the image with disk utility or asr, which both throw the I/O error. When I put the -verbose flag on the command I actually get a different error: "hdiutil: attach failed - No child processes". I have output from both the -verbose and -debug flags but it is fairly long so I had to attach a link to avoid the 3000 character limit. No recovery system can get the data because it is both compressed and unmountable. How can I get the data back, and what has gone wrong? -debug -verbose

    I have a usb port which connects a little man usb hub I got for Christmas. It worked fine to begin with however now it works on any computer other than my own. When I plug the man in it lights up and when I plug things into the man it says they have malfunctioned but when I plug them straight into tha port it's fine.     I've created a window's service that monitors files on a specific directory on our Windows OS. When a file is detected, the service does some file I/O, reads the files, creates sub-directories, etc. This service also uses database connectivity to connect to another server. My plan is to have the service run as the default "Local Service" account. Since I need to allow write/read privileges, which apparently the "Local Service" account does not do by default, I'm going to explicitly set "Full Control" privileges for the "Local Service" account on the folder that I'm reading/writing to and from. I believe the above is a good . My question is, for the folder that I'm reading and writing to, do I need to setup a "Network Service" role with full control access? I'm wondering since my service uses database connectivity to another server, if I'll need the "Network Service" account setup. I may be misunderstanding what the "Network Service" account does.
