• Legally, can I re reuse code for different customers?

  The company I work for develops custom factory automation applications for multiple customers. Even though each application is custom, they contain common code which is re-used across projects. One of the customers is now looking for the source code to their application, which has caused a major storm in the company. Management have decided that we can't give them the source to the shared components as they are used by other customers. I've been asked to modify the shared components 'enough' so as they aren't common. So my questions are: 1) Legally, should there be any problem with re-using common components for different customer? 2) If I really need to modify the common components, then how much is 'enough' ? (I know this sucks, but I either do this or hand in my notice). Oh yeah, and my company has no license in place with any of these customers.

  Possible Duplicate: How do you dive into large code bases? I have worked as a developer developing C/C++ applications for mobile platforms (Windows Mobile and Symbian) for about six years. About a year ago, however, I changed job and currently work with large(!) enterprise systems with high security and availability requirements, all developed in Java. My problem is that I am having a hard time getting a grip on the architecture of the systems, even after a year working with them, and understanding systems other people have built has never been my strong side. The fact that I haven't worked with enterprise systems before doesn't exactly help. Does anyone have a good approach on how to learn and understand large systems? Are there any particular techniques and/or patterns I should read up on?

• Ubuntu is kde styled after install AND removal

  I installed kubuntu-desktop and every thing was fine. Then later when I actually logged in to Kde, I decided that I still like Unity better so I ran sudo apt-get purge kubuntu-desktop && sudo apt-get autoremove. After that bits and pieces of my Ubuntu/Unity have been Kde styled. All browsers have Kde icons and some applications show 'About Kde' in their menus, all text fields have that 'bluesh glow' around them, etc. What is still left of Kubuntu? Note: I saw this question and this question, but both where outdated and didn't work.

  I am currently working as an SDET(Software devlopment Engineer in Test). I have been doing some programming in C# as my job needs. I want to expand my knowledge and experience by creating some simple tools and applications of my own. Consider this like academic projects that are created by students at the end of their course . The idea is to have a practical knowledge on the subjects that I have a theoritical knowledge about. For Eg - I have read about multithreading and have worked on the examples but I do not have a grip over the concepts. In order to get a good grip over the concepts I want to work over some projects involving multithreading, starting with a simple one. Similarly other concepts like REST/SOAP web services using WCF. • Recommendations for taskbar

  I recently updated to Ubuntu 13.10 and now tint2 stopped working. Better yet: it works, I just can not see it as the all bar is now transparent. Since Tint2 is no longer maintained I doubt it will be updated hence I'm now looking into alternative is there are any. In short: looking for a simple taskbar that sits at the bottom of the screen and that lists applications per window (no groupping!). Don't need fancy animations or widgets/features. Any ideas?

  I was wondering if anyone has come across any articles detailing how to set up a basic game in C++ for use in Android / IPhone / Desktop applications. My thoughts just now are that I would like to make my game as a library and have a different project for each device which just interfaces with this library. You know the kind of thing, bootstrap the program, call some library initialize, load and run routines and occasionally pass some information to the library like input. I was hoping someone would have made a template for this kind of thing but I just had no luck finding one.   Most academic researchers I know target just *nix, and rely on Cygwin to make their applications available on Windows. I have tried many of these projects and always found them too unstable for serious use when running on Cygwin. Uwin looks like a promising alternative to Cygwin. I haven't tried it yet, but I found several comments that it is faster and more stable. However, I haven't seen any use of Uwin to support running *nix apps on Windows. What are the social and/or technical reasons behind Uwin's lack of popularity?
