  • Core Data Image Won't Load Into NSTableView Image Cell

    In my code I am storing an image into my Core Data model (works fine). If I set up my view to have an NSImageView and bind its Data to Controller Key: selection and modelKeyPath: myImagePath, it works. It will show each image for the selected row. I then create a new column in my NSTableView and drag an image cell onto the column. However, I cannot get my Core Data bindings to have the image show up in the cell. I have tried binding both value and data, but no luck. Since I am sure the image is stored properly, what am I doing wrong in my binding to prevent the image from showing up in the table cell? Thanks so much. (My background: new Cocoa developer who has recently gone through the entire Hillegass book.)

  • Modifying Service URLs with LINQ to Twitter

    It’s funny that two posts so close together speak about flexibility with the LINQ to Twitter provider.  There are certain things you know from experience on when to make software more flexible and when to save time.  This is another one of those times when I got lucky and made the right choice up front. I’m talking about the ability to switch URLs. It only makes sense that Twitter should begin versioning their API as it matures.  In fact, most of the entire API has moved to the v1 URL at “https://api.twitter.com/1/”, except for search and trends.  Recently, Twitter introduced the available and local trends, but hung them off the new v1, and left the rest of the trends API on the old URL. To implement this, I muscled my way into the expression tree during CreateRequestProcessor to figure out which trend I was dealing with; perhaps not elegant, but the code is in the right place and that’s what factories are for.  Anyway, the point is that I wouldn’t have to do this kind of stuff (as much fun as it is), if Twitter would have more consistency. Having went to Chirp last week and seeing the evolution of the API, it looks like my wish is coming true.  …now if they would just get their stuff together on the mess they made with geo-location and places… but again, that’s all transparent if your using LINQ to Twitter because I pulled all of that together in a consistent way so that you don’t have to. Normally, when Twitter makes a change, code breaks and I have to scramble to get the fixes in-place.  This time, in the case of a URL change, the adjustment is easy and no-one has to wait for me.  Essentially, all you need to do is change the URL passed to the TwitterContext constructor.  Here’s an example of instantiating a TwitterContext now: using (var twitterCtx = new TwitterContext(auth, "https://api.twitter.com/1/", "https://search.twitter.com/")) The third parameter constructor is the SearchUrl, which is used for Search and Trend APIs. You probably know what’s coming next; another constructor, but with the SearchUrl parameter set to the new URL as follows: using (var twitterCtx = new TwitterContext(auth, "https://api.twitter.com/1/", "https://api.twitter.com/1/")) One consequence of setting the URL this way is that you set the URL for both Trends and Search.  Since Search is still using the old URL, this is going to break for Search queries. You could always instantiate a special TwitterContext instance for Search queries, with the old URL set. Alternatively, you can use the TwitterContext’s SearchUrl property. Here’s an example: twitterCtx.SearchUrl = "https://api.twitter.com/1/"; var trends = (from trend in twitterCtx.Trends where trend.Type == TrendType.Daily && trend.Date == DateTime.Now.AddDays(-2).Date select trend) .ToList(); Notice how I set the SearchUrl property just-in-time for the query. This allows you to target the URL for each specific query. Whichever way you prefer to configure the URL, it’s your choice. So, now you know how to set the URL to be used for Trend queries and how to prevent whacking your Search queries. I’ll be updating the Trend API to use same URL as all other APIs soon, so the only API left to use the SearchUrl will be Search, but for the short term, it’s Trends and Search. Until I make this change, you’ll have a viable work-around by setting the URL yourself, as explained above. These were the Search and Trend URLs, but you might be curious about the second parameter of the TwitterContext constructor; that’s the URL for all other APIs (the BaseUrl), except for Trend and Search. Similarly, you can use the TwitterContext’s BaseUrl property to set the BaseUrl. Setting the BaseUrl can be useful when communicating with other services. In addition to Twitter changing URLs, the Twitter API has been adopted by other companies, such as Identi.ca, Tumblr, and  WordPress.  This capability lets you use LINQ to Twitter with any of these services.  This is a testament to the success of the Twitter API and it’s popularity. No doubt we’ll have hills and valleys to traverse as the Twitter API matures, but hopefully there will be enough flexibility in LINQ to Twitter to make these changes as transparent as possible for you. @JoeMayo

  • Serialization Performance and Google Android

    I'm looking for advice to speed up serialization performance, specifically when using the Google Android. For a project I am working on, I am trying to relay a couple hundred objects from a server to the Android app, and am going through various stages to get the performance I need. First I tried a terrible XML parser that I hacked together using Scanner specifically for this project, and that caused unbelievably slow performance when loading the objects (~5 minutes for a 300KB file). I then moved away from that and made my classes implement Serializable and wrote the ArrayList of objects I had to a file. Reading that file into the objects the Android, with the file already downloaded mind you, was taking ~15-30 seconds for the ~100KB serialized file. I still find this completely unacceptable for an Android app, as my app requires loading the data when starting the application. I have read briefly about Externalizable and how it can increase performance, but I am not sure as to how one implements it with nested classes. Right now, I am trying to store an ArrayList of the following class, with the nested classes below it. public class MealMenu implements Serializable{ private String commonsName; private long startMillis, endMillis, modMillis; private ArrayList<Venue> venues; private String mealName; } And the Venue class: public class Venue implements Serializable{ private String name; private ArrayList<FoodItem> foodItems; } And the FoodItem class: public class FoodItem implements Serializable{ private String name; private boolean vegan; private boolean vegetarian; } IF Externalizable is the way to go to increase performance, is there any information as to how java calls the methods in the objects when you try to write it out? I am not sure if I need to implement it in the parent class, nor how I would go about serializing the nested objects within each object.

  • SQLServer Binary Data with ActiveRecord and JDBC

    I'm using the activerecord-jdbc-adapter with ActiveRecord to be able to access a SQLServer database for Rails Application running under jRuby and am having trouble inserting binary data. The Exception I am getting is below. Note I just have a blurb for the binary data from the fixtures that was working fine for MySQL. ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: ActiveRecord::ActiveRecordError: Operand type clash: nvarchar is incompatible with image: INSERT INTO blobstorage_datachunks ([id], [datafile_id], [chunk_number], [data]) VALUES (369397133, 663419003, 0, N'GIF89a@') When I created the tables the migration had binary and SQLServer used Image instead. We're using Rails 2.3.5, SQLServer Express 2008. What I'm looking for is a way to get the binary data into SQLServer with ActiveRecord. Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hey Guys I have a website and am planning to develop a mobile version of it for the iphone, blackberry and android. My website is a social network built on PHP Zend framework. Now all these mobile apps are going to be having the same functionality like the website. I am little ignorant about this - but from a high level I understand that all these mobile apps should not have to write any backend logic. For every functionality - they will simply make a web service API call to interact with the backend. So does that mean, for every functionality I need to create a web service method. Can the existing code be re used - I'm a little lost - Can someone shed some light on this matter or point me in the right direction (like some articles) Thanks

  • Convert db data encoding to UTF-8

    Hi, I use Sql Server 2000 and I inserted some data in hebrew to a table. I need to access this data through an iPhone app using an ASP page that query the table. The problem is that in the iPhone app the Hebrew is shown as strange signs. I think my problem is that the data that is generated from my db isn't in UTF-8 but in USC-2 Any suggestions how to convert the data from my db to utf so it will be readable on the iPhone? 10x.

  • GCC (ld) option to strip unreferenced data/functions

    I've written an program which uses a library which has numerous functuions, but I only limited functions from it. GCC is the compiler I use. Once I've created a binary, when I used nm to see the symbols in it, it shows all the unwanted (unreferenced) functions which are never used. How do I removed those unreferenced functions and data from the executable? Is the -s option right? I'm tols that it strips all symbol table and relocation data from the binary, but does this remove the function and data too? I'm not sure on how to verify this too, since after using -s nm doesn't work since it's stripped all sym. table data too.

  • How can I find the program making a harmonica sound?

    A friend has a Windows XP SP3 machine that plays a harmonica sound for about 5 seconds throughout the day at what seems to be random intervals (every couple hours). My question is how can I find the program making this sound? Is there a Windows API hook for monitoring audio access? I've gone through and checked all the standard Windows sounds in the Control Panel and right now the theme is set to no sounds and I personally checked to make sure none of the events have a sound specified. I also checked the Task Scheduler to make sure there wasn't something scheduled to go off every couple hours. Any ideas on how to go about finding the bugger?

  • Why eGet() in EMF returns Object rather than EObject?

    I am working on some code using the EMF framework in Java, but it is really hard to use, e.g. I cannot implement OCL-like query API on top of EMF which would be type-safe. One of the reasons is that eGet() for a EStructuralFeature return just an Object, not EObject. So anything I would write must use much of null checking, type checking and type casting which is unsafe, not performant and cannot be generalized in a reusable way. Why doesn't EMF generate dummy implementations with EObject wrappers for arbitrary Object value? Implementing the EObject and hence the EClass interfaces even with simple throw UnsupportedOperationException is really a pain (the APIs are too big). The same holds for the eContainer() method which makes navigatinng the model upwards painful.

  • Attach data to Richtext using flex, mysql and php(newbie)

    I'm trying to attach data to a richtext field in Flashbuilder. The data is an html string in a mysql database and I'm connecting using php. The php script is just converting to XML. The connection works because I can easily dump the data to a datagrid and I can see the string. when I try to hook the data to a Richtext field I get "object CallResponder" so I am connected, but I'm not sure how to break it down so that it is just an html string for the text field.     Hi all, I juststarted programming in android a few weeks ago, so I am not entirely sure how to deal with listing values. Please help me out! I have some questions regarding displaying data sets from db in a list. Currently I have a cursor returned by my db points to a list of rows and I want display 2 columns values in a single row of the list. The row xml looks like this: <TextView android:id="@+id/text1" android:textSize="16sp" android:textStyle="bold" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/text2" android:textSize="14sp" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> so I was thinking using simplecursoradapter which supposedly makes my life easier by displaying the data in a list. However that is only true if I want to display the raw data. For the purpose of my program I need to do some computations on the raw data sets, then display them. I am not sure how to do that using SimpleCursorAdapter. Here's how I display the raw data: String[] from = new String[]{BtDbAdapter.KEY_EX_TYPE,BtDbAdapter.KEY_EX_TIMESTAMP}; int[] to = new int[]{R.id.text1, R.id.text2}; // Now create a simple cursor adapter and set it to display SimpleCursorAdapter records = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.exset_row, mExsetCursor, from, to); setListAdapter(records); Is there a way to do computation on the data in those rows before I bind it with the SimpleCursorAdapter? I was trying to use an alternative way of doing this by using arraylist and arrayadapter, but that way I dont know to how achieve displaying 2 items in a single row. I was trying to use R.id.text1 and R.id.text2 for them, but it gave me some errors saying 04-23 01:40:58.658: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(3309): android.content.res.Resources$NotFoundException: Resource ID #0x7f070008 type #0x12 is not valid I believe the second method can achieve this, but I'm not sure how do deal with the layout problems, so if you any suggestions, please post them out.     I am trying to display a list of pages similar to the facebook search results. Along with the page's name, I would like to display the page type. The page's type property (from the Pages.getInfo API call returns the rather unfriendly looking strings from this list: http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Page_Types Is there any way to map these to or retrieve the actual type descriptions facebook uses for page types in the facebook search results? These are not only more presentable, but appear to be less granular (both good things for my purpose).

Since yesterday, the wall posts only show on the Facebook web app but not the Facebook iPhone app. I tried Yelp, and their postings still show up. How can I debug this? Anyone notice this issue with their Facebook connect? Is this a Facebook algorithm issue.   • Bloomberg APIv3 returning Slow Consumer Warnings!

    I made a program in c# based on the example "SubscriptionWithEventHandlerExample" of API 3.2.9.0. After subscribing to about 500 securities for realtime data, I receive some ADMIN event warnings claiming SlowConsumerWarning and SlowConsumerWarningCleared. I read somewhere that it introduces some delay, until I process all events. The problem is that in my code I only receive callbacks from bloomberg. The event queue isn´t even in my program! Some things that I tried: 1) raise the queue limit, setting MaxEventQueueSize in the session options (seems to have no effect) 2) see if I get any timeout event (no, I don't get any) 3) create multiple sessions and subscribing 50 securities in each (now I get multiple warnings, one for each thread) Is there something that I can do or this behavior is out of my scope?

    I'm creating a Google Maps partial view/user control in my project that is passed a strongly typed list of objects containing latitude and longitude values. Currently, this is the code I have for the partial: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<IEnumerable<Project.Models.Entities.Location>>" %> <!-- Place for google to put the map --> <div id="report_map_canvas" style="width: 100%; height: 728px; margin-bottom: 2px;"> </div> <script type='text/javascript'> google.load("maps", "2"); $(document).ready(initializeMap); function initializeMap() { if (GBrowserIsCompatible()) { var map = new GMap2(document.getElementById('report_map_canvas')); map.setCenter(new GLatLng(51.5, -0.1167), 2); <% foreach (var item in Model) { %> map.addOverlay(new GMarker(new GLatLng('<%= Html.Encode(item.latitude)%>','<%= Html.Encode(item.longitude)%>'),{ title: '<%= Html.Encode(String.Format("{0:F}",item.speed)) %> km/h '})); <% } %> map.setUIToDefault(); } } </script> Is it right to dynamically create the javascript file this way by looping over the list and emitting javascript? Is there a better way to do it?
