  I use: char[] password = null; JPasswordField jpf = new JPasswordField(30); java.lang.Object [] messageInput = { prompt, jpf }; java.lang.Object [] options = { jpf , "OK", "Cancel"}; int result = JOptionPane.showOptionDialog(null, messageInput, title, JOptionPane.OK_CANCEL_OPTION, JOptionPane.QUESTION_MESSAGE, null, options, ""); JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, result); if (result == 1) { password = jpf.getPassword(); } else if(result == JOptionPane.CANCEL_OPTION) { } return password; to get password, but this can not listen to the Enter button. I know if I set the options parameter to null, can make the dialog listen to "enter" button, but if I do that, the dialog don't focus to the textbox when show up. Can someone help me on this ?   I have a specific issue with general console printing and I was wondering whether anyone has a solution for it. I am trying to print a dataTable which would look like sth like this: Table ---------------------- Name |Surname | ---------------------- Mike |Mikhailowish| Rafaello|Mirena | and so on. In order to print the border of the bar I need to know what the maximum length of each column value is. I don't want to go through the whole database to find that out and then again to print it. I would rather like to do sth like: System.out.printLater(s); //herejust leave a pointer to a StringBuilder you will build ... s.append("--------"); ... System.out.printAllDeferred(); I understand the above is probably in 99.99999% chances impossible, but perhaps you guys have a clever way of achieving the above?

• Alternative to singleton for unique resources

  I keep reading over and over again that one should avoid using singletons for various reasons. I'm wondering how to correctly handle a situation where a class represents a unique system resource. For example, a AudioOutput class using SDL. Since SDL_OpenAudio can only be open once at a time it makes no sense having more then one object of this type and it seems to me preventing accidentally making more then one object would actually be good. Just wondering what experienced programmers think about this, am i missing another option ?

  Hi all, i am wondering how can i select specific number of child objects instead of taking them all with include? lets say i have object 'Group' and i need to select last ten students that joined the group. When i use '.Include("Students"), EF includes all students. I was trying to use Take(10), but i am pretty new to EF and programming as well, so i couldn't figure it out. Any suggestions? UPDATED: ok, i have Group object already retrieved from db like this: Group group = db.Groups.FirstOrDefault(x=>x.GroupId == id) I know that i can add Include("Students") statement, but that would bring ALL students, and their number could be quite big whether i need only freshest 10 students. Can i do something like this: var groupWithStudents = group.Students.OrderByDescending(//...).Take(10);? The problem with this is that Take< no longer appears in intellisense. Is this clear enough?   I want to use the OleDB interfaces directly to open a connection to a DB, create a command and executing it (for example using the ICommandText interface). The main thing I can't find is how to create the connection and the command object and how to connect the object that implements the ICommandText to the connection. In ADO I would just use the ActiveConnection property but I want to do this directly on the OleDB interfaces. Also, if anyone can recommend a tutorial to OleDB, ether online or a book, free or not that would be great (but a tutorial and not just a reference / API) I'm using C++ but any native code would be fine.

If I want to cast e.ReturnValue to the return List how do I differentiate between the count and select methods? I can do a e.ReturnValue.GetType().ToString() but that seems like a hack.

  I just started exploring Java Servlets and JSP and am a little confused about the sessions object.   I have service in which i am accessing few configuration properties from grailsApplication I am injecting it like this class MyWebService{ def grailsApplication WebService webService = new WebService() def getProxy(url, flag){ return webService.getClient(url) } def getResponse(){ def proxy = getProxy(grailsApplication.config.grails.wsdlURL, true) def response = proxy.getItem(ItemType) return response } } When i call getProxy() method, i see this in tomcat logs No signature of method: org.example.MyWebService.getProxy() is applicable for argument types: (groovy.util.ConfigObject, java.lang.Boolean) values: [[:], true] Possible solutions: getProxy(), getProxy(java.lang.String, boolean), setProxy(java.lang.Object) which means grailsApplication is not getting injected into the service, is there any alternate way to access configuration object ? according to burtbeckwith's post configurationholder has been deprecated, can't think of anything else. Interestingly the very same service works fine in my local IDE(GGTS 3.1.0), that means locally grailsApplication is getting injected, but when i create a war to deploy to a standalone tomcat, it stops getting injected.

  Hello everyone, I created a php file that return dynamically generated text. This text is returned with a div id. When I retrieve that text using Ajax as responseText. I would like to access the properties of that div using javascript, which is impossible since that new text is not added to the DOM. My question is, how can i access that div using either raw javascript or frameworks (am somewhat familiar with jQuery) ? It may be useful to note that the div can be accessed using CSS. Thank you.

  I have a Meeting Object: Meeting{id, name, time, CreatedBy, UpdatedBy} and a MeetingAssignee{id, MeetingID, EmployeeId, CreatedBy, UpdatedBy) Meeting, as Aggregate root, has a method AssignEmployee. I was about to pass in the current user to the Meeting object as I call AssignEmployee, so that it can update its audit fields accordingly. But this doesn't seem right - is it? Obviously I can keep the audit fields public and change them later - perhaps at service level? What is everyone's else preferred method for updating these fields? Please note: We are not using Nhibernate, but a custom ORM which does not have anything automatic in place. Thanks.

• Unable to send an associative array in JSON format in Zend to client

  Hi, In one of my actions in a controller, I'm using the json view helper to send back a response to an ajax request. On the client side I alert the data that is passed to the success callback function. It works fine as long as the response is a number or an array with default keys. Once I try to send an associative array, it alerts with [object Object]. Server code: $childArray = array('key'=>'value'); $this->_helper->json($childArray); javascript: function displayChildren(data){ alert(data); } ... $.ajax({ url: "/po/add", dataType: "json", data: {format: "json"}, success: displayChildren }); I have no idea what am I doing wrong here, so any help would be appreciated...

• Android/ iOS how to determine small changes in distance using sensors?

  I have been doing a bit of research, but I cannot seem to find a way to determine small distances (centimeters and meters) using the sensors in Android or iOS devices. Bluetooth appears too inaccurate and require more than one device, GPS only works over larger variations in distance, and small variations in rotation seem to make using the accelerometer nearly impossible. Is there a method that I am unaware of that would allow me to do such a thing? I am familiar with Calculus, so using Integrals to determine distance based on changes in time and velocity/ acceleration is not a problem for me, I just do not know how to determine those things. • Android/ORMLite Insert Row with ID

  I'm currently using ORMLite to work with a SQLite database on Android. As part of this I am downloading a bunch of data from a backend server and I'd like to have this data added to the SQLite database in the exact same format it is on the backend server (ie the IDs are the same, etc). So, my question to you is if I populate my database entry object (we'll call it Equipment), including Equipment's generatedId/primary key field via setId(), and I then run a DAO.create() with that Equipment entry will that ID be saved correctly? I tried it this way and it seems to me that this was not the case. If that is the case I will try again and look for other problems, but with the first few passes over the code I was not able to find one. So essentially, if I call DAO.create() on a database object with an ID set will that ID be sent to the database and if it is not, how can I insert a row with a primary key value already filled out? • Why are Objective-C instance variables declared in an interface?

  I'm just getting into Objective-C (Java is my primary OO language). Defining an object's instance variables in the interface instead of the class seems strange. I'm used to an interface being a public API definition with nothing besides method signatures (not counting constants here). Is there some reason that state is defined in an interface (even if it is private) and behaviour is defined in a class. It just seems odd that since objects are state+behavior that the definition would be split into two separate places. Is it a design benefit is some way? A pain in the rear issue that you are just forced to deal with in Objective-C? A non-issue, just different? Any background on why it's done this way? Or can you put object state in a class and I just haven't hit that part in my book yet?

  I'm using Flex 3.3, with hamcrest-as3 used to test for item membership in a list as part of my unit tests: var myList: IList = new ArrayCollection(['a', 'b', 'c']).list; assertThat(myList, hasItems('a', 'b', 'c')); The problem is that apparently the IList class doesn't support for each iteration; for example, with the above list, this will not trace anything: for each (var i: * in myList) { trace (i); } However, tracing either an Array or an ArrayCollection containing the same data will work just fine. What I want to do is (without having to tear apart my existing IList-based interface) be able to treat an IList like an Array or an ArrayCollection for the purposes of testing, because that's what hamcrest does: override public function matches(collection:Object):Boolean { for each (var item:Object in collection) { if (_elementMatcher.matches(item)) { return true; } } return false; } Is this simply doomed to failure? As a side note, why would the IList interface not be amenable to iteration this way? That just seems wrong.

  Hi, I want to create a 2 way bind between a listbox and a .NET list. In my GUI, I have a listbox, a textbox and add and remove buttons. The listbox displays cars, and my goal is to create a 2way bind between the .Net car list and the listbox: when the user enters a car into the textbox, it gets updated only in the .Net list, and the listbox is updated automatically. When the user press the GUI "remove" button, a car gets removed from the GUI and the .Net list is updated automatically. • Request/Response objects

  I'm planning on using CXF's rest implementation. I'm thinking of simply annotating my entity classes with jaxb annotations, such as @XmlRootElement, in order to create response objects. The benefit being avoidance of code duplication. As for the (client) request object, which will be used by a separate web app, I'm thinking of 'copying' the entity classes, removing the orm annotations, and adding jaxb annotations. Based on the above: Are there any dangers of creating request/response objects from entity classes? My entity classes contain relational properties, if I were to annotate them with @XmlRootElement, how can I stop the relational properties from being added (or considered apart of) to the response object? Is there a better/easier way to create request objects rather than copying the entity classes, removing/adding annotations?

  I want to write some code that allows me to replace jQuery's animate function with one that does different things, but still allows me to call a secondary function on completion. At the moment, I'm writing lots of code like this; if (cssTransitions) { $("#content_box").css("height",0); window.setTimeout(function() { secondFunction(); }, 600); } else { $("#content_box").animate({ height:0 }, 600, function() { secondFunction(); }); } I'd much rather write a function that looks like this: function slideUpContent(object) { if (cssTransitions) { object.css("height",0); // Not sure how I get a callback here } else { $("#content_box").animate({ height:0 }, 600, function() { }); } } That I could use like this: slideUpContent("#content_box", function(){ secondFunction(); }); But I'm not sure how to get the functionality I need - namely a way to run another function once my one has completed. Can anyone help my rather addled brain?
