  • What is the best way to route a static controller in Rails?

    I have a static_controller that is in charge of all the static pages in the site and works as follows in routes.rb: map.connect ':id', :controller => 'static', :action => 'show' I have a static page called about that among other information, has a contact form. I currently have a contacts_controller that is in charge of inserting the contact information to the database. Inside my routes.rb file, I have: map.resources :contacts My contact form (simplified) looks like this: <% form_for @contact do |f| %> <p class="errors"><%= f.error_messages %></p> <p> <%= f.label :first_name %> <%= f.text_field :first_name %> </p> <p class="buttons"><%= f.submit %></p> <% end %> Which in turn submits to the create action of my contacts_controller. My create action looks like this: def create @contact = Contact.new(params[:contact]) if @contact.save flash[:notice] = "Email delivered successfully." end redirect_to "about" end The problem is, is the that when I redirect back to my about page the error_messages for the form get lost (since the error_messages for the form only exist for one request, and that request ends upon redirect). How would I go about preserving the error_messages and still linking the users back to the about static url? Would a session/flash be sufficient (if so, what code would I use to pass error messages) or am I going about this whole thing wrong? Thanks!

  • C# Wholesale Order form - textboxes in Gridviews in Repeater

    I'm building a wholesale order form on a website. The current plan is to... -get an ArrayList of DepartmentUnits -a DepartmentUnit has various attributes like "deptId", "description" and its own ArrayList of StoreItems -The StoreItems have attached ArrayList of various SizeOptions -The SizeOptions have an inventory count integer along with their description -Planning on putting an asp:Repeater on the page that has an asp:GridView in it -Each DepartmentUnit will have its own GridView -EachStore item will have a row in the GridView -Each SizeOption will have a TextBox in the row (approximately 10 options) -Each inventory count will be watermarked over the size option textbox The question becomes how will I then collect all this information correctly once the form has been filled out? I don't like the idea of putting all this information in an update panel and then posting back each time a GridView row or worse one of the row's textboxes changes. Any advice on putting a single save button on the page and looping through each Repeater item - and each GridViewRow - and each textbox - to get all the values entered? Better to try collecting all the items added in a single table at the bottom of the page and updating the string with jquery each time a text box is modified? Then just looping through the new table when saved? Not sure I know how to loop through that table though - updating if quantity is changed might be a bear too. If it considerably simplifies the process I could just remove the Repeater aspect and put separate GridViews on separate pages. Thanks!

    I have a WCF Web Service which is kept under an Application Pool on IIS. Lately I've been getting "Service Unavaiable" when I'm trying to make calls to this Web Service. The first thing I tried to do was restarting the Application Pool. I did it and after a couple of seconds, it crashed and stopped. Looking at the Event Viewer, I found these messages, which by the moment couldn't help me to find where the problem is. A process serving application pool 'X' reported a failure. The process id was '11616'. The data field contains the error number. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. After getting a couple of these, I got this one: Application pool 'X' is being automatically disabled due to a series of failures in the process(es) serving that application pool.   • Why is TransactionScope operation is not valid?

    I have a routine which uses a recursive loop to insert items into a SQL Server 2005 database The first call which initiates the loop is enclosed within a transaction using TransactionScope. When I first call ProcessItem the myItem data gets inserted into the database as expected. However when ProcessItem is called from either ProcessItemLinks or ProcessItemComments I get the following error. “The operation is not valid for the state of the transaction” I am running this in debug with VS 2008 on Windows 7 and have the MSDTC running to enable distributed transactions. The code below isn’t my production code but is set out exactly the same. The AddItemToDatabase is a method on a class I cannot modify and uses a standard ExecuteNonQuery() which creates a connection then closes and disposes once completed. I have looked at other posting on here and the internet and still cannot resolve this issue.     I am writing a program in Java that takes a custom XML file and parses it. I'm using the XML file for storage. I am getting the following error in Eclipse.   • Classic ASP vs. ASP.NET encryption options

    I'm working on a web site where the new pages are ASP.NET and the legacy pages are Classic ASP. Being new to development in the Windows env, I've been studying the latest technology, i.e. .NET and I become like a deer in headlights when ever legacy issues come up regarding COM objects. Security on the website is an abomination, but I've easily encrypted the connectionStrings in the web.config file per http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/021506-1.aspx based on DPAPI machine mode. I understand this approach is not the most secure, but it's better than nothing which is what it was for the ASP.NET pages. Now, I question how to do similar encryption for the connection strings used by the Classic ASP pages. A complicating factor is that the web sited is hosted where I do not have admin permissions or even command line access, just FTP. Moreover I want to avoid managing the key. My research has found: DPAPI with COM interop. Seems like this should already be available, but the only thing I could find discussing this is CyptoUtility (see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc163884.aspx) which is not installed on the hosting server. There are plenty of other third party COM objects, e.g. Crypto from Dalun Software http://www.dalun.com, but these aren't on the hosted server either, and they look to me to require you to do some kind of key management. There is CAPICOM on the hosted server, but M$ has deprecated it and many report it is not the easiest to use. It is not clear to me whether I can avoid key management with CAPICOM similar to using DPAPI for ASP.NET. If anyone happens to know, please clue me in. I could write an web service in ASP.NET and have the classic ASP pages use it to get the decrypted connection strings and then store those in an application variable. I would not need to use SSL since I could use localhost and nothing would be sent over the internet. In the simpliest form I could implement what someone termed a poor man's version based on a simple XML stream, however, I really was looking to avoid any development since I find it hard to believe there is not a simple solution for Classic ASP like there is for ASP.NET. Maybe I'm missing some options... Recommendations are requested...

  • Unable to use JConsole with Tomcat running as windows service

    I am running tomcat 6.0.18 as a windows service. In the service applet the jvm is configured default, i.e. it is using jvm.dll of the JRE. I am trying to monitor this application with JConsole but cannot connect to it locally. I added the parameter -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote (which works when starting tomcat with the start.bat script). But the jvm does not seem to pick up the parameter.

    Is there a way that I can get to the exception that was handled by the MSTest framework using the TestContext or some other method on a base test class? If an unhandled exception occurs in one of my tests, I'd like to spin through all the items in the exception.Data dictionary and display them to the test result to help me figure out why the test failed (we usually add data to the exception to help us debug in the production env, so I'd like to do the same for testing). Note: I am not testing that an exception was SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN (I have other tests for that), I am testing a valid case, I just need to see the exception data. Here is a code example of what I'm talking about.   • C++ resize a docked Qt QDockWidget programmatically?

    I've just started working on a new C++/Qt project. It's going to be an MDI-based IDE with docked widgets for things like the file tree, object browser, compiler output, etc. One thing is bugging me so far though: I can't figure out how to programmatically make a QDockWidget smaller. For example, this snippet creates my bottom dock window, "Build Information": m_compilerOutput = new QTextEdit; m_compilerOutput->setReadOnly(true); dock = new QDockWidget(tr("Build Information"), this); dock->setWidget(m_compilerOutput); addDockWidget(Qt::BottomDockWidgetArea, dock); When launched, my program looks like this: http://yfrog.com/6ldreamidep (bear in mind the early stage of development) However, I want it to appear like this: http://yfrog.com/20dreamide2p I can't seem to get this to happen. The Qt Reference on QDockWidget says this: Custom size hints, minimum and maximum sizes and size policies should be implemented in the child widget. QDockWidget will respect them, adjusting its own constraints to include the frame and title. Size constraints should not be set on the QDockWidget itself, because they change depending on whether it is docked Now, this suggests that one method of going about doing this would be to sub-class QTextEdit and override the sizeHint() method. However, I would prefer not to do this just for that purpose, nor have I tried it to find that to be a working solution. I have tried calling dock-resize(m_compilerOutput-width(), m_compilerOutput-minimumHeight()), calling m_compilerOutput-setSizePolicy() with each of its options...nothing so far has affected the size. Like I said, I would prefer a simple solution in a few lines of code to having to create a sub-class just to change sizeHint(). All suggestions are appreciated.

  • How to implement DisplayMemberPath for my Wpf UserControl?

    I'm writing a WPF User Control for my application, wrapping a ListBox and a few other items. The ListBox has a new ItemTemplate that presents four pieces of information for each item in my list. I can hard code each of the four bindings to specific properties on my list items and they display fine. However, I want my UserControl to be a bit more flexible. On ListBox and ComboBox there is a property DisplayMemberPath (inherited from ItemsControl) that seems to "inject" the appropriate property binding into the standard ItemTemplate. How do I achieve the same result with my user control? I'd like to set up four new properties to allow configuration of the information displayed: public string LabelDisplayPath { get; set; } public string MetricDisplayPath { get; set; } public string TitleDisplayPath { get; set; } public string SubtitleDisplayPath { get; set; } Reviewing ItemsControl.DisplayMemberPath with Reflector seems to go down the rabbit hole, I haven't been able to fathom how it works. Also, if I'm completely off course - and there's another, more "WPF" technique that I should be using instead, please point me in that direction.

  • Flash vs. Ajax Abilities

    Hey everyone. I want to develop an application that does a bunch of cool stuff. The first thing that I need in it is to get information about the page a person is browsing. With that said, I need for example to know how long a user stayed in a page and where was the scrollbar. While getting that data, It's all saved to a database. The thing is, I prefer doing that in Flash [although I have no experience in it] over Ajax since I want to hide the code - which as far as I know not possible in Javascript/Ajax. So, can I do all that in Flash? - Read the content of the page, get the status of the scroll bar.. Plus, I then need to go threw the gathered information that is saved in the database. Since there could be many calculations i thought C++ .Net is better than PHP [which I know better]. Is that all possible or am I just crazy? :) Thanks ahead.

  • How do I make a jQuery POST function open the new page?

    I know that a submit button in HTML can submit a form which opens the target page, but how do I cause a jQuery ajax call POST information to a new page and display the new page. I am submitting information that is gathered by clicking elements (which toggle a new class) and then all items with this new class are added to an array and POSTed to a new page.   • How to serve tiff WMS imagery through GeoServer

    Ok so I am new to the GeoServer/database world. I am a student intern and I have been given the task of setting up a WMS using GeoServer. I have never done any database work before this so bare with me if my questions leave out important information. I am using GeoServer 2.0.1 in standalone mode (downloaded using Jetty) with PostgreSQL 8.4 installed. I went through nyc_roads and nyc_buildings install demo in the GeoServer documentation but I still do not understand how I should go about serving up some test images. I noticed that the nyc_roads setup included a .sql file that was responsible for setting up the nyc_buildings database. I do not know how/where this file was generated. Our test images are .tiff and .jpeg. I have successfully been able to do a WMS call on the local GeoServer machine, and have opened the included demo imagery. I now wish to add these .tiff and .jpeg images to GeoServer and access them through WMS. I have tried copying the images to the GeoServer data directory,adding a new data store, and layers, but I always receive an error regarding the "input stream." Again I am very sorry if I am leaving out allot of vital information, this is as much as I know. thanks!

Because the summer isn't very long for students in my college, I'm not looking for a 3 month full-time internship, but some kind of activity where I can experience subjects related to computer science, entrepreneurship and team management.
