    I am using mysqldump for a large database (several GB) and import the result from a pipe, please see commands below, does it do incremental pipe, or wait until the first one finishes then import? is this a good way of importing large db across servers? I know you can export gz it, then pscp it then import. Quick alternative are welcome mysqldump -u root -ppass -q mydatabase | mysql -u root -ppass --host=xxx.xx.xxx.xx --port=3306 -C mydatabase

  • How to discover which name/address connections from one network to another uses?

    In MySQL you have to authorized a user based on the name of the origin network. From my network to a remote one all connections appear as sent from mail.mycompany.com. But connections to another remote network it appears with a different origin. How to discover which name/ip it is using? I tried tcpdump and netstat in the destination but it is difficult to find my connection among billions of others. In my case the destination is a Windows Server 2003

    I need to try Linux (Ubuntu) and feel hesitant to install Ubuntu on top of a Win 7 machine to dual boot (might need to use Win7 and Ubuntu at the same time). Is creating a Virtual PC on Win7, and then install the latest Ubuntu on that Virtual PC one of the better option? So I think I can create a Virtual PC with an empty virtual hard disk (vhd), say, for 30GB, and then put in the Ubuntu DVD-R or CD-R to install Ubuntu onto that empty hard disk.

    My network engineer states I am part of a cluster where two apache application servers(512G RAM each) have 142 instances each of Tomcat (of which my company represents 6 each with 2G RAM). This seems like a lot and my latency issues move with the hour of the day - 7AM CST software functions fine, 10AM CST - system slows significantly this slowness continues until 6PM CST. My question is how many Tomcat instances can one application server handle?

    I got a AT&T compatible Nexus One that I'm trying to connect to my Mac Book Pro (Snow Leopard) for development. When I do an adb devices, it doesn't appear, and I can't do an adb install either. Until today, I've been using a G1 and I haven't had any issues. I haven't placed a SIM in the phone yet, but I don't think that should matter.

    I am using 7-Zip on Windows XP and whenever I download a .tar.gz file it takes me two steps to completely extract the file(s). I right-click on the example.tar.gz file and choose 7-Zip -- Extract Here from the context menu. I then take the resulting example.tar file and the right-click again and choose 7-Zip -- Extract Here from the context menu. Is there a way through the context menu to do this in one step?

    Let's say you have all the episodes of FOO series that you downloaded as they were out, so you have like 20 torrents. Now let's say you want to make a bundle torrent with all the files, call it "FOO Season 1", and then send it to someone. One way would be to create a new torrent with all the episodes, but you would lose all the seeds from the current torrents, and you also couldn't seed people that want to download single episodes. Is this possible with the BitTorrent protocol?

I am looking for similar functionality for switching between monitors. Win+P is not good enough, as it loops between four choices: Computer | Duplicate | Extend | Projector, and I want to toggle only between two monitors. It also takes at least four key strokes to toggle.

    Hi everybody. I'm working with gwtai to integrate a java applet into my gwt - project. Basic communication from my main application to the applet (such as invoking simple methods that return int or boolean values) works. But the main reason why I need to integrate this applet is, that I need it to connect to another server and receive a answer and pass it to my gwt-application. So there's one basic method in the applet: public String SendAndReceive(String host, int sendPort, int receivePort, String query) that connects to the server, receives an answer and returns this answer as a string. When I now try to invoke this method like this: applet.SendAndReceive("0.0.0.0", 9099, 2000, "show streams;"); I constantly run into following error (full error message at the end): com.google.gwt.core.client.JavaScriptException: (String): Error calling method on NPObject! [plugin exception: java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.util.PropertyPermission * read,write)] I couldn't find a solution (for gwtai is a quite uncommon topic), what I found out (and what the Exception let's one assume) is, that there's a security problem - maybe because I'm connecting to another server. I also read something about browser's Single Origin Policy, what would point in the same direction...up to now I have never worked with java applets. So if someone has a solution or a hint I would be very thankful. If more code is helpful I can give.   • SSD and HDD have window 7 recovery partition. Can I delete one to make room for ubuntu?

    I'm trying to install ubuntu right now, and I've run into a problem. I have Windows 7 installed on my SSD, and I want to install ubuntu on my HDD, but I already have three partitions on my HDD. The partitions are two Recovery Partitions and one data partition. What I don't understand is why my data drive(the HDD) has recovery partitions for Windows 7? The same recovery partitions(or atleast I think they are the same. Same sizes, same names, same order) are on the SSD with the Windows 7 install. Can I safely delete the recovery partitions on the HDD? My other option, I think, is to put the boot partition for ubuntu on the SSD where I only have three partitions. Then I can put the other three logical partitions for ubuntu in an extended partition on the HDD. Can I do that, put the boot partition on one drive and the other partitions on another? Here is a picture of the partitions and I have circled the one I would like to delete to make room. http://imgur.com/XOpJQ
