Virtual NIC on VM couldn't ping externally after Vmotion

Today I vmotioned 5 MS SQL 2005 servers over to a new DRS Cluster. All SQL servers use the "Production_LAN" network and a single virtual NIC of type "VMXNET 3". The first 4 SQL VM (Windows 2003 Standard or Enterprise x32 bit) vmotioned over without a hitch. The last SQL VM I vmotioned (Windows 2003 Standard x64 bit R2) vmotioned over without error, but I upon completion, I could no longer ping the VM. I went into the VM and could not even ping the gateway, however I could ping the loopback. This SQL server is extremely busy in comparison with the previous 4 VM's. I restarted the server and it came back up with the virtual nic working just fine. The build of both servers (vmotioner and vmotionee) is ESX 4.0.0 175625 - So, pre-update 1. Should I suspect the network switch/VM for possibly not updating the mac table on the switch? Anybody else ever have this issue or know what may have caused it? Thank you!

Missing Wireless access point

I have an: Ubuntu 12.04 with proprietary Boardcom STA Wireless driver installed BCM43224 802.11a/b/g/n wireless card TP-LINK TD-W8101G 54Mbps Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router Yesterday before I went to sleep, I still connect to my wireless access point, this morning when I start my laptop I don't see it in the list - there are some neighbors listed but not mine. The WLAN is green, with my old Nokia E72, I still see my access point with 100% signal. I have tried to restart my laptop and turn the firmware off/on by the switch but no help. I have read the WirelessTroubleShootingGuide but I can do anything. How can I create an external SSL wrapper/tunnel page for an insecure webpage behind a firewall?

I have an security cam with a built-in webpage inside my home network. That camera is using basic HTTP authentication instead of SSL. I want to be able to access the camera's webpage from outside my network, but I don't want to open an unencrypted video stream to the outside world. Right now, I'm doing some cumbersome ssh tunneling where I bounce off an ssh server like: ssh -N -L 9090:CAMERA_IP:80 [email protected] and then I connect to my web page like: http://localhost:9090 But this is a pain. Now, gentle reader, I beseech you to tell me how I can use linux (Ubuntu) to get a fully encrypted SSL connection to my internal web page without the hassle of creating an ssh tunnel each time. I believe I can use stunnel, but I'm not sure of the command.

(For example, would Software Tools make more sense under Third Party Applications?) A few constraints: The structure should not go beyond three levels deep. Avoid the word "and" in favour of two different categories. Keep the structure general: it should appy as broadly as possible. Target audience is primarily technical, but could be visible by anyone.

How do you add a certificate for WLAN in Linux, at the command-line?

I'm using Maemo on a Nokia n810 Internet tablet, and when given a list of installed certificates to choose from when connecting to a PEAP wireless network, it's always blank. I've already installed a couple of certificates through the gui on the device, and only the certificate authorities show up. I've confirmed that Maemo's connection software that handles certificates is buggy, in such a way that certificates are never added, or properly added certificates cannot be found. Is there a way to add WLAN certificates at the command-line, and connect to a wireless network at the command-line as well? I used to use iwconfig to connect, but I never used it with PEAP. Note: I have nothing in /etc/ssl/certs

How to solve 'Connection refused' errors in SSH connection?

I have an Ubuntu Server 10.10 32-bit in my home. I'm making SSH connections to it from my PC via Putty. The problem is, sometimes I'm able to login seamlessly. However, sometimes it gives me an error like this: Network error: Connection refused. Then, I dont't change anything, try to login a few times more, wait a while and try again. Sometimes I can log in, sometimes I cannot. It seems pretty random to me. What can I do to solve this? Edit: And Sometimes, Putty gives Network error: Software caused connection abort error after displaying login as: text. Add a remote printer over ssh on OSX?

I have a printer at my office that is connected to a local network and my linux box at work can see it on the network. However, it is not visible to the outside world. I was trying to figure out a way to add it on my MacAir and so far have found two options: 1) Using ssh tunnel via CLI: cat file.pdf | ssh user@linuxbox lpr. 2) With Chrome installed on the linux box, using the Google Cloud Print service on the remote box and automator on my MacAir I can add the printer to Cmnd+p dialog box I like the first method since it does not require Chrome be installed and the second one since it allows to use Cmnd+p inside all applications. I was wondering if there is a way to combine by using automator to run the first command line script. What about port forwarding? Is it possible to forward the remote CUPS 631 port to a local port and then add the printer normally? What other methods would you recommend?

CARP: two machines think they're the master, but only on one interface

I have two machines, each configured identically as a firewall/load balancer for a busy website. I have set them up with CARP and pfsync on both the internal and external interfaces. The internal interface is behaving as expected (primary listed as MASTER and secondary listed as BACKUP) On both machines, the network interfaces are as follows: em0 - External interface bge0 - Internal interface bge1 - Crossover connection between both machines carp0 - Shared external interface for CARP carp1 - Shared internal interface for CARP I've rewritten the IP addresses and MAC addresses below. Windows Server 2008 R2 DNS Server not working?

Hi, I have a server running Windows Server 2008 R2 hosting a DNS server, exchange 2010 and is a domain controller. One computer on the network (and domain) can ping the server 25% of the time, also when I try to ping it's own hostname it also does not work. However another computer that is on the domain can ping it fine, and another computer on the network but not domain can ping fine as well. The computer that cannot ping the server is setup to use the DNS server running on the server only (secondary dns points to nothing) and it will resolve the hostname of the server to the external IP not internal when the other two computers correctly resolve the internal All 3 computers and server are connected directly into the same switch. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks

Aperture and networked drive: thinks images are offline

I keep my photos on a networked drive (wireless), and they are referenced by Aperture. Aperture seems to not try very hard to look for this drive. Usually I have to open the network drive in Finder before opening Aperture -- otherwise it doesn't find the images and considers them offline. To me this seems like Aperture isn't willing to look on the network for the drive, unless it was helped along by pointing it out in Finder. It doesn't work if I start Aperture first and then navigate to the drive in Finder. What are some workarounds to making this functional? Is there a way to tell Aperture to look again without restarting the program?
