• Can ElementTree be told to preserve the order of attributes?

  I've written a fairly simple filter in python using ElementTree to munge the contexts of some xml files. And it works, more or less. But it reorders the attributes of various tags, and I'd like it to not do that. Does anyone know a switch I can throw to make it keep them in specified order? Context for this I'm working with and on a particle physics tool that has a complex, but oddly limited configuration system based on xml files. Among the many things setup that way are the paths to various static data files. These paths are hardcoded into the existing xml and there are no facilities for setting or varying them based on environment variables, and in our local installation they are necessarily in a different place. This isn't a disaster because the combined source- and build-control tool we're using allows us to shadow certain files with local copies. But even thought the data fields are static the xml isn't, so I've written a script for fixing the paths, but with the attribute rearrangement diffs between the local and master versions are harder to read than necessary. This is my first time taking ElementTree for a spin (and only my fifth or sixth python project) so maybe I'm just doing it wrong. • UITableViewCell is 1px shorter in didSelectRowAtIndexPath than cellForRowAtIndexPath

  I have a UITableViewCell that I create in tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath:. In that method I call: UITableViewCell *cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:nil] autorelease]; NSLog(@"Cell height: %f", cell.contentView.frame.size.height); This gives me a return value of 44.000000. Then in my tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath: method, I call: UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath: indexPath]; NSLog(@"Cell height: %f", cell.contentView.frame.size.height); And this gives me a return value of 43.000000. Aren't they the same cell? What gives?

  Hey all I have a method (C++) that returns a character and takes an array of characters as its parameters. I'm messing with assembly for the first time and just trying to return the first character of the array in the dl register. • More specific NSNumberFormatter failure behaviour

  I have an NSTextField into which I need the user to enter a number between a max and min, and it would be nice if I could detect when the NSNumberFormatter fails that particular test so I can either display a nicer message ("The number is too large" is not very helpful, it needs to display the valid range) or simply set the field automatically to the nearest valid value. I've looked at the NSTextField delegate's -control:didFailToFormatString:errorDescription: method which doesn't seem to allow you to modify the error, and I've looked at overriding the NSNumberFormatter's -getObjectValue:forString:range:error: method which does give me an NSError that I can modify, but there doesn't seem to be any way to determine which specific error was returned. Since I am just entering a simple integer, I don't need most of the functionality in NSNumberFormatter, would I be better off just writing my own formatter from scratch?

  Hello, guys! I have a problem and I dont know what is better solution. Okay, I have 2 tables: posts(id, title), posts_tags(post_id, tag_id). I have next task: must select posts with tags ids for example 4, 10 and 11. Not exactly, post could have any other tags at the same time. So, how I could do it more optimized? Creating temporary table in each query? Or may be some kind of stored procedure? In the future, user could ask script to select posts with any count of tags (it could be 1 tag only or 10 at the same time) and I must be sure that method that I will choose would be the best method for my problem. • How to render a Partial from a Model in Rails 2.3.5

  I have a Rails 2.3.5 application and Im trying to render several Partials from within a Model (i know, i know -- im not supposed to). The reason im doing this is im integrating a Comet server (APE) into my Rails app and need to push updates out based on the Model's events (ex. after_create). I have tried doing this: ActionView::Base.new(Rails::Configuration.new.view_path).render(:partial => "pages/show", :locals => {:page => self}) Which allows me to render simple partials that don't user helpers, however if I try to user a link_to in my partial, i receive an error stating: undefined method `url_for' for nil:NilClass I've made sure that the object being passed into the "project_path(project)" is not nil. I've also tried including: include ActionView::Helpers::UrlHelper include ActionController::UrlWriter in the Module that contains the method that makes the above "render" call. Does anyone know how to work around this? Thanks

  GWT's RPC mechanism does the following things on every HTTP Request - Sets two custom request headers - X-GWT-Permutation and X-GWT-Module-Base Sets the content-type as text/x-gwt-rpc; charset=utf-8 The HTTP request is always a POST, and on server side GET methods throw an exception (method not supported). Also, if these headers are not set or have the wrong value, the server fails processing with an exception "possibly CSRF?" or something to that effect. Question is : Is this sufficient to prevent CSRF? Is there a way to set custom headers and change content type in a pure cross-site request forgery method?

• html includes in a JSP using IIS/WebLogic

  I have my IIS 6 server setup to process server side includes, we're also using the WebLogic ISAPI plugin for IIS. I have a simple html file that I'm trying to include in the JSP using the following include: <!-- #include file="/pleaseWait/pleaseWait.html" --> When I use the above line in a JSP I get an error message saying: "pleaseWait is not defined". From an HTML file on the web server it works fine. The include works in the HTML whether I use file or virtual. I can't use the jsp @ include because that's resolved at build time and the HTML file does not exist in the Java project. It's static content so it's on the IIS server. In the past we've change the extension to .jsp and included the images and static content in the .war file....the problem with that is we now have 10 different versions of this code in our apps and not all of them look or function the same. This is an attempt to standardize and centralize the code for this feature across our apps. Any ideas or suggestions?

• how do arguments work with dojo.connect?

  I've read the docs, but I must be missing something. I've got a grid, I want to connect to the event that fires when the column headers are clicked for sorting, thus: dojo.addOnLoad(function(){ var grid = dijit.byId("grid"); dojo.connect(grid, "setSortInfo", 'afterSort'); }); function afterSort() { console.info('after sort'); } That works fine as far as it goes. I know the setSortInfo method has an argument which is the column number. How do I get that value? I've tried putting a parameter in the sig for afterSort to no avail. The docs say "the method receives the same arguments as the event", but where are they???

• Reading from the Registry in ASP.NET

  I have a Library ( DLL ) that has a method with the following: var masterKey = Registry. LocalMachine. OpenSubKey("SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Dynamics\\5.0\\"); When running this method in an WinForms applicaiton, masterKey is not null and when running this in asp.net masterKey is null! I've checked the executing user with WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name and the same user is executing both applications. The asp.net application is executed in visual studio ( debug: F5 ) and so is the WinForms application. How come I cannot read the key in asp.net?

• Why does setting this member in C fail?

  I'm writing a Python wrapper for a C++ library, and I'm getting a really weird when trying to set a struct's field in C. If I have a struct like this: struct Thing { PyOBJECT_HEAD unsigned int val; }; And have two functions like this: static PyObject* Thing_GetBit(Thing* self, PyObject* args) { unsigned int mask; if(!PyArg_ParseTuple(args, "I", &mask) Py_RETURN_FALSE; if((self->val & mask) != 0) Py_RETURN_TRUE; Py_RETURN_FALSE; } static PyObject* Thing_SetBit(Thing* self, PyObject* args) { unsigned int mask; bool on; if(!PyArg_ParseTuple(args, "Ii", &mask, &on)) Py_RETURN_FALSE; if(on) thing->val |= mask; else thing->val &= ~mask; Py_RETURN_TRUE; } Python code that calls the first method works just fine, giving back the value of the struct member. Calls to the SetBit method give an error about an object at address foo accessing memory at address bar, which couldn't be "written". I've poked around the code, and it's like I can look at the value all I want, both from C and Python, but the instant I try to set it, it blows up in my face. Am I missing something fundamental here?

• What are the basics of dealing with user input events in Android?

  Hello. I thought I had understood this question, but something is quite wrong here. When the user (me, so far) tries to press keys, nothing really happens, and I am having a lot of trouble understanding what it is that I've missed. Consider this before I present some code to help clarify my problem: I am using Android's Lunar Lander example to make my first "real" Android program. In that example, of course, there exist a class LunarView, and class nested therein LunarThread. In my code the equivalents of these classes are Graphics and GraphicsThread, respectively. Also I can make sprite animations in 2D just fine on Android. I have a Player class, and let's say GraphicsThread has a Player member referred to as "player". This class has four coordinates - x1, y1, x2, and y2 - and they define a rectangle in which the sprite is to be drawn. I've worked it out so that I can handle that perfectly. Whenever the doDraw(Canvas canvas) method is invoked, it'll just look at the values of those coordinates and draw the sprite accordingly. Now let's say - and this isn't really what I'm trying to do with the program - I'm trying to make the program where all it does is display the Player sprite at one location of the screen UNTIL the FIRST time the user presses the Dpad's left button. Then the location will be changed to another set position on the screen, and the sprite will be drawn at that position for the rest of the program invariably. Also note that the GraphicsThread member in Graphics is called "thread", and that the SurfaceHolder member in GraphicsThread is called "mSurfaceHolder". So consider this method in class Graphics: @Override public boolean onKeyDown(int keyCode, KeyEvent msg) { return thread.keyDownHandler(keyCode, msg); } Also please consider this method in class GraphicsThread: boolean keyDownHandler(int keyCode, KeyEvent msg) { synchronized (mSurfaceHolder) { if (keyCode == KeyEvent.KEYCODE_DPAD_LEFT) { player.x1 = 100; player.y1 = 100; player.x2 = 120; player.y2 = 150; } } return true; } Now then assuming that player's coordinates start off as (200, 200, 220, 250), why won't he do anything different when I press Dpad: Left? • Interface for classes that have nothing in common

  Lets say I want to make few classes to determine behaviour of agents. The good practice would be to make some common interface for them, such interface (simplified) could look like this: interface IModel { void UpdateBehaviour(); } All , or at least most, of such model would have some parameters, but parameters from one model might have nothing in common with parameters of other model. I would like to have some common way of loading parameters. Question What is the best way to do that? Is it maybe just adding method void LoadParameters(object parameters) to the IModel? Or creating empty interface IParameters and add method void LoadParameters(IParameters parameters)? That are two ideas I came up with, but I don't like either of them.

• Generate n-dimensional random numbers in Python

  I'm trying to generate random numbers from a gaussian distribution. Python has the very useful random.gauss() method, but this is only a one-dimensional random variable. How could I programmatically generate random numbers from this distribution in n-dimensions? For example, in two dimensions, the return value of this method is essentially distance from the mean, so I would still need (x,y) coordinates to determine an actual data point. I suppose I could generate two more random numbers, but I'm not sure how to set up the constraints. I appreciate any insights. Thanks!

Version of C# isn't of interest, I guess the solution will be nicer if features from C# version 2.0 is used.

  Greetings all, I'm looking for a more efficient way to grab multiple users without too much code redundancy. I would much rather select all users in a single SQL statement. The problem is that I have probably a dozen or so methods for getting arrays of users, so all of these would now need to know the names of the database columns which is repeating a lot of structure that could always change later. What are some other ways that I could approach this problem? My goals include efficiency, flexibility, scalability, and good design practice.

  Hi All, Okay, Only a couple weeks ago I had an old 32bit computer, but had to buy a new computer, which happens to be 64bit. I've rewritten the method that sends e-mails asynchonously and it just does not work. And does NOT throw any exceptions either. What gives? I have also tried the Async method code found iin MSDN, and the BlackWasp tutorial code, and MANY others. They're all the same! The only difference here seems to be the fact that I'm now on a 64bit computer. How can I get around this? Google/MSDN has been of zero help. Thanks
