• Domain Squatter Blacklist

  Is there a list of common ip addresses used by domain squatters (the ip addresses of the sites they resolve the domains to)? I have a list of domains and I need to remove most squatted/parked domains from the list, I can do that in a perl script (that currently removes dead domains) but I need the IP addresses the squatted domains resolve to so I can remove them as well. I know there are spam/phishing/malware blacklists available, does anyone know of a squatter blacklist? I can't find one using Google. EDIT: I am trying to remove dead domains from a list, I can already remove domains that don't resolve but I need to remove squatted domains as well so I need a list of ip addresses squatted domains resolve to so I can remove them.

• How to stop mouse "pausing".

  My Microsoft mouse recently stopped working, so I purchased an AOpen O-35G, plug and play. No software came with it and I was advised to "just plug it in". I did this, and it worked, although some of the more advanced features do not work. My problem is that now the mouse cursor hesitates occasionally, and then over shoots the target I selected. This never happened before. It seems to happen when I am using the mouse and a browser window reloads. Does anyone know how to change this? It is very annoying. XP Pro SP3 Thanks. EDIT: It is not a problem of dust or a hair. I have contacted the Manufacturere and they are not responding. I have the mouse attached to my computer via a powered USB hub. I am going to try plugging it in directly to see if that makes a difference.

• Thunderbird: moving email from local Junk folder to IMAP folder yields "Message contains invalid header"

  Whenever I try to move an email from a local Junk folder to an IMAP folder in Thunderbird, I get the following error message: The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: Message contains invalid header If Thunderbird's Junk folder is an IMAP folder on the server, then after Thunderbird has moved messages to that folder, I can successfully move messages from Junk back into to some other IMAP folder. However, if the Junk folder is not on the server, then moving a message from the local Junk folder to an IMAP folder yields the aforementioned error. The only interesting thing I've found about this error is "Message contains invalid header" from the MozillaZine Knowledge Base. That article officially is about importing folders from another email client, and does not mention the Junk filter as another possible cause. However the proposed solution is not very helpful since it requires manual editing of the message box files. Any better ideas? EDIT: make sure you read the comments before answering the question.

• Live chat solutions

  What good live chat/live help solutions are available (preferably for use on a site hosted on a LAMP stack and free)? I'm looking for a way to allow our sales and customer service reps to talk directly with visitors to our site. I've looked at phpopenchat, but it looks very unpolished. The only other free live chat app I've come across looked egregious. The aesthetics and UI design alone made me shudder to think what the underlying code might look like. This isn't a critical feature, and it wouldn't be hard to code up myself, so I'm not really looking for commercial software or paid services (unless there's a really compelling reason to use them). I'm just wondering if any other webmasters have come across a satisfactory free/open source solution for providing live customer support on their website. As a side note, live voice chat would also be an option, but it has to be be designed (or customizable) for customer support rather than a public chatroom. Edit: Looking at the responses, it looks like there probably aren't going to be many free solutions for this type of business-oriented chat solution, so feel free to post answers even if they are commercial solutions as long as they're a good value. Also feel free to post any alternate live support solutions (such as the Skype recommendation) that could be in someway integrated with a website. This will give me a good lay of the land for what people are actually using for live support, and I think will be more helpful to others reading this question.

• Can't use nvidia card/driver on optimus notebook

  I installed (once again) the latest official nvidia driver for my GT540m on Ubuntu 11.10. Even though everything seems OK with my xorg.conf file (I've manually added BusID "PCI:1:0:0", since lspci shows 01:00.0 for my GPU). The problem is, when I use the xorg.conf file generated by Xorg -configure, Xorg automatically loads the Intel GPU. So I removed everything that was not related to my nvidia card, basically leaving my xorg.conf with one screen and one device (with the nvidia driver and the above-mentioned BusID), and Xorg fails to start. The log says something like "Devices on GT540m [newline] none" And a few lines later, something like "NVIDIA(0) found a screen, but have no device for it". When I don't set the BusID, it doesn't seem to detect my card either. Thank you for any suggestion. PS: If possible, I'd like to avoid bumblebee or any similar "hybrid graphics" solution, last time I tried I ended up reinstalling Ubuntu. Edit: Allow me to clarify the problem. I have a notebook with a GT540m graphics card, and an integrated intel gpu. I want to use the graphics card with full hardware acceleration and its official driver, as I do under windows.

• ipv6 auto configuration not working in ubuntu natty

  In win7, my computer can automatically get a IPV6 global address and use ipv6 network, but in ubuntu natty, I can't find out how to let stateless configuration work. My network is a university campus network,so I don't need tunnels. I think if one thingg can silently and successfully complished in windows it shouldn't be impossible in linux. I did can manually edit /etc/network/interfaces and use a static ipv6 address, and I can use ipv6 this way, but I just want to use auto-configuration. I found this post: How to disable autoconfiguration on IPv6 in Linux? and try sudo sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.all.autoconf=1 sudo sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.all.accept_ra=1 but no luck

  WebLogic Server's Work Managers provide a way to control work and allocated threads. You can set different scheduling guidelines for different applications, depending on your requirements. There is a default self-tuning Work Manager, but you might want to set up a custom work manager in some circumstances: for example, when you want the server to prioritize one application over another when a response time goal is required, or when a minimum thread constraint is needed to avoid deadlock. The Work Manager Shutdown Trigger is a tool to help with stuck threads in which will do the following: Shut down the Work Manager. Move the application to Admin State (not active). Change the Server instance health state to failed. • Displaying possible movement tiles

  What's the fastest way to highlight all possible movement tiles for a player on a square grid? Players can only move up, down, left, right. Tiles can cost more than one movement, multiple levels are available to move, and players can be larger than one tile. Think of games like Fire Emblem, Front Mission, and XCOM. My first thought was to recursively search for connecting tiles. This quickly demonstrated many shortcomings when blockers, movement costs, and other features were added into the mix. My second thought was to use an A* pathfinding algorithm to check all tiles presumed valid. Presumed valid tiles would come from an algorithm that generates a diamond of tiles from the player's speed (see example here http://jsfiddle.net/truefreestyle/Suww8/9/). Problem is this seems a little slow and expensive. Is there a faster way? Edit: In Lua for Corona SDK, I integrated the following movement generation controller. • How to make ssh/rsync/etc use a VLAN network interface?

  A company I work for has a number of virtual servers with ElasticHosts. They are setup in such a way that eth1 is on a private VLAN connecting them to each other. This is so backups sent between servers are not charged at the same rate as external data transfer. My understanding of how VLANs and network interfaces work is sketchy at best. How can I make ssh, rsync, etc. transfer data through the VLAN? My final solution: I spent a while trying to figure this out, For all servers involved, edit /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 DEVICE=eth1 BOOTPROTO=static ONBOOT=yes HWADDR=YOUR_MAC_ADDR IPADDR=192.168.0.100 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 Where HWADDR should already be set and the last octate of IPADDR should be different from each other. Then run, on all servers /etc/init.d/network restart After this the IP addresses specified by IPADDR can be used directly as any other IP address.

• My windows xp wireless hotspot wifi isn't working

  I add the hotspot the regular way. Yet it doesn't show up as available when I try to connect to it using my other Ubuntu laptop. And nothing can connect to it. Yesterday, I successfully made it work for 5 minutes and then it stopped without me changing any configuration. I've already tryed resetting the DNS. Edit: I've updated my Broadcom 802.11b/g driver to a generic but more recent version. I've also repaired the WMI, now the advanced tab of my primary connection is available and the hand meaning the connection is shared appeared. But the computers still connect the wrong way around. (Windows to ubuntu instead of ubuntu to windows) Reinstalled SP3...

• Exchange Server Contact Categories - How to Remove/Update All

  I've been tasked with cleaning up our companies contact database sitting on our Exchange Server 2003. The rub is this database of contacts has been neglected for the past couple of years and is now a bit messy. My issue is I have say a person named 'Bob Smith', and Bob is listed in multiple categories, 'Students' and 'Student'. I would really like to remove the 'Student' category from Bob and anyone else out there that has the same category. My question is, is there an easy way to edit the master category lists for contacts on the exchange server? I feel like I am missing something simple here since if I were playing with the categories that I use, to say organize email its very easy to do so, but I can't seem to find the proper way to do it for categories that are up on the server. I'm attempting to work through Outlook 2007 and Exchange 2003. Any insight would be very helpful as I really don't want to change 8000+ contacts by hand.

• Advancing my Embedded knowledge.....with a CS degree.

  So I graduated last December with a B.S. in Computer Science, in a pretty good well known engineering college. However towards the end I realized that I actually like Assembly/Lower level C programming more than I actually enjoy higher level abstracted OO stuff. (Like I Programmed my own Device Drivers for USB stuff in Linux, stuff like that) But.....I mean we really didn't concentrate much on that in college, perhaps an EE/CE degree would've been better, but I knew the classes......and things weren't THAT much different. I've messed around with Atmel AVR's/Arduino stuff (Mostly robotics) and Linux Kernals/Device Drivers. but I really want to enhance my skills and maybe one day get a job doing embedded stuff. (I have a job now, it's An entry level software dev/tester job, it's a good job but not exactly what my passion lies in) (Im pretty good with C and certain ASM's for specific microcontrollers) Is this even possible with a CS degree? or am I screwed? (since technically my degree usually doesn't involve much embedded stuff) If Im NOT screwed then what should I be studying/learning? How would I even go about it........ I guess I could eventually say "Experienced with XXXX Microcontrollers/ASM/etc...." but still, it wouldn't be the same as having a CE/EE degree. Also....going back to college isn't an option. just fyi. edit: Any book recommendations for "getting used to this stuff" I have ARM System-on-Chip Architecture (2nd edition) it's good.....for ARM stuff lol

• 10 gigabit or 1 gigabit switch

  We are planning to move mysql to dedicated box. At this moment we have web servers and mysql is running on each. Question is: cheaper is to buy 10G switch and put 10G network card into mysql server. Or buy normal gigabit switch and connect mysql box to switch with multiple network cables. In 1G scenario then we give each web server different mysql IP address. I don't think, that mysql box with one 1G link is enough to to satisfy multiple web box mysql traffic. At this moment we have 3 servers witch are running mysql/web. Plan is to add fourth server for mysql only. Thanks. Edit: if we buy 1G switch with mini-GBIC ports. Can we put in mini-GBIC 10G connectors and then connect mysql box to that port?

  I'm using a 2D array of objects to store data about tiles, or "blocks" in my gameworld. • IBM x260m won't boot from PCI SATA card

  Hi. We ghosted our old Windows 2003 drive to a new 1TB one, and connected through new PCI SATA card. The x260m server fails to boot with error 1962: "Boot sector not found." When we connect the drive directly to motherboard, it boots fine, so the problem is probably in getting BIOS to boot from the SATA card. Has anyone encountered and solved such issue? EDIT: We tried disabling the on-board Sata controller (Hostraid/SAS?), but there is no such option - only enable, enhanced and compatible. Tried also to chance boot device priority to all possible choices - no luck. Thanks in advance!

• Working with fubar/refuctored code

  I'm working with some code which was written by a contractor who left a year ago leaving a number of projects with buggy, disgustingly bad code. This is what I call cowboy PHP, say no more. Ideally I'd like to leave the project as is and never touch it again. Things break, requirements change and it needs to be maintained. Part A needs to be changed. There is a bug I cannot reproduce. Part A is connect to parts B D and E. This kind of work gives me a headache and makes me die a little inside. It kills my motivation and productivity. To be honest I'd say it's affecting my mental health. Perhaps being at the start of my career I'm being naive to think production code should be reasonably clean. I would like to hear from anyone else who has been in this situation before. What did you do to get out of it? I'm thinking long term I might have to find another job. Edit I've moved on from this company now, to a place where idiots are not employed. The code isn't perfect but it's at least manageable and peer reviewed. There are a lot of people in the comments below telling me that software is messy like this. Sure I don't agree with the way some programmers do things but this code was seriously mangled. The guy who wrote it tried to reinvent every wheel he could, and badly. He stopped getting work from us because of his bad code that nobody on the team could stand. If it were easy to refactor I would have. Eventually after many 'just do this small 10minute change' situations had ballooned into hours of lost time (regardless of who on the team was doing the work) my boss finally caved in it was rewritten.

• Partitioning a bootable Flash drive

  Is it possible to have a 2 partition Flash drive that looks like the following: A partition that is bootable to OS X (this will require a GUID partition table) A second partition formatted either FAT32 or NTFS that is readable on both OS X and various flavors of Windows I have set up a disk using Disk Utility on the Mac, and it boots fine with a second FAT32 partition... but Windows does not see it. Any flavor of Windows wants to format the entire drive. Has anyone done this, and if so, can you explain the steps you followed? EDIT: Making it bootable is no problem. I have that. I'm wondering how to make the second partition on a Flash drive visible to Windows. It's possible that the "second partition" is the problem, and I need Windows to be first, and HFS to be second. I'll try that tonight.

• How to set path of Virtual PC hard disk differencing parent

  I have an old Windows XP Mode vhd backed up from my previous system, but I'm having difficulty getting it running on the new system. The vhd is a differencing disk, and its parent is the standard Windows XP Mode base; I still have the old parent, and have verified it is binary identical to the XP Mode base in my new installation of XP Mode. But in the new system, the path to the differencing disk parent is different than the old. When I open up the settings for the .vmcx for my old XP mode, and select "Hard Disk 1", the "Virtual hard disk file" is set correctly, but the "Parent Disk:" field is pointing at the wrong path, and I can't see any way to edit it. Does anyone know how?

• Save password in WCF adapter binding file

  Binding file for WCF Adapter doesn't save the password no matter it is generated by "Add Generated Items..." wizard in Visual Studio or "Export Bindings..." in administration console. It is by design dut to the consideration of security, but it is very annoying especially when you import bindings which contain multiple WCF send ports. The way to aviod retyping password everytime after an import is to edit the binding file before import. Here is what needs to be done. 1. Find the following string:     &lt;Password vt="1" /&gt; "&lt;" means "<", "&gt;" means ">", "vt" means "Variable Type", variable type 1 is "NULL", so the above string can be translated to "<Password/>" 2. Replace it with:     &lt;Password vt="8"&gt;MyPassword&lt;/Password&gt;    variable type 8 is "string", the above string can be transalted to "<Password>MyPassword</Password>"   Binding file uses a lot of character entity references for XML character encoding purpose. • faking NAT with a VMware distributed switch across multiple hosts

  I need to construct a NAT for certain machines within the network. Wish to do this with dvSwitch - as it seems the logical way of attacking the problem as in this scenario there's just under 30 hosts. In order for the NAT'ed VM's to have access to the 'real' network. I am providing a 'router' VM, which will have access to the WAN/outside network, and also act as the DHCP server for the NAT'ed machines. Problem Space When the machines connected to the NAT interface and the router are on the same host, then they get an IP from the router VM, and work perfectly (routed outside). Unfortunately machines on other Hosts that are connected to the dvSwitch do not get an IP and further tcpdump shows no network data getting through across the hosts within the dvSwitch. Has anyone achieved a NAT solution using a dvSwitch before that they could share?! Thank you. EDIT: Including the diagram.

  I want to improve my personal password management. I usually use secure passwords, but overuse them for too many different places. My questions: What methods do you use to create passwords, e.g. for different online sites/logins? What methods do you use to remember those passwords? Memory? Pen&Paper? Software storage? Is there some good way to store my passwords somewhere, so I can always have access to them when I need them (e.g. a webbased solution on my own server) but at the same way keep them away from unwanted access? Fabiane Nardon and SOUJava gang are also organizing a Geek Bike Ride on the Sunday (Dec 4th) before JavaOne. The 20k ride (map) starts at 7am and goes through the streets of Sao Paulo. This is an opportunity to meet some of the JavaOne speakers and attendees outside the conference. They've even designed a t-shirt and 32 geeks have signed up so far. I'm glad my discussion with Fabiane during FISL early this year for arranging this bike ride is finally taking shape! I'm definitely looking forward to it and will be bringing nice fruity Odwalla bars for all the riders.
