  • Reload AJAX data every X minutes/seconds, jQuery

    - by NightMICU
    Hi everyone, I programmed a CMS that has a log of who has recently logged into the system. Presently, this data is fed into a jQuery UI tab via Ajax. I would like to put this information into a sidebar on the main page and load it via AJAX every 30 seconds (or some set period of time). How would I go about doing this? Does the PHP response need to be JSON coded? I am fairly new to AJAX and JSON data. Here is the PHP I am currently using to pull details from the users table- <?php $loginLog = $db->query("SELECT name_f, name_l, DATE_FORMAT(lastLogin, '%a, %b %D, %Y %h:%i %p') AS lastLogin FROM user_control ORDER BY lastLogin ASC LIMIT 10"); while ($recentLogin = $loginLog->fetch()) { echo $recentLogin['name_f'] . " " . $recentLogin['name_l'] . " - " . $recentLogin['lastLogin']; } ?> Thanks!

  • Planning a skillset for a fallback career [closed]

    - by Davy Kavanagh
    I'm not too certain this is a SO question, but I didn't think it belonged in meta either. Long story short, I am bioinformatics researcher. I like to code, it's my favourite part of the job. I have been thinking for a while that if academia is not kind to me, I might seek a career in software development. My current contract is for three years and I would like to spend some time over the next 3 three years learning and practicing software development as possible. Python seems like a popular language and it what I mostly use to do things for me, but I am also in heavy use of R. So my main question is: Are python and R good things to be learning with a sotfware dev goal in mind, and if so, is there any particular type of programming or software that might be useful to have experience with. Hard questions to answer I know, but I thought I would get the answer from people who are in the know. Cheers, Davy.

  • webgl adding projection doesnt display object

    - by dazed3confused
    I am having a look at web gl, and trying to render a cube, but I am having a problem when I try to add projection into the vertex shader. I have added an attribute, but when I use it to multiple the modelview and position, it stops displaying the cube. Im not sure why and was wondering if anyone could help? Ive tried looking at a few examples but just cant get this to work vertex shader attribute vec3 aVertexPosition; uniform mat4 uMVMatrix; uniform mat4 uPMatrix; void main(void) { gl_Position = uPMatrix * uMVMatrix * vec4(aVertexPosition, 1.0); //gl_Position = uMVMatrix * vec4(aVertexPosition, 1.0); } fragment shader #ifdef GL_ES precision highp float; // Not sure why this is required, need to google it #endif uniform vec4 uColor; void main() { gl_FragColor = uColor; } function init() { // Get a reference to our drawing surface canvas = document.getElementById("webglSurface"); gl = canvas.getContext("experimental-webgl"); /** Create our simple program **/ // Get our shaders var v = document.getElementById("vertexShader").firstChild.nodeValue; var f = document.getElementById("fragmentShader").firstChild.nodeValue; // Compile vertex shader var vs = gl.createShader(gl.VERTEX_SHADER); gl.shaderSource(vs, v); gl.compileShader(vs); // Compile fragment shader var fs = gl.createShader(gl.FRAGMENT_SHADER); gl.shaderSource(fs, f); gl.compileShader(fs); // Create program and attach shaders program = gl.createProgram(); gl.attachShader(program, vs); gl.attachShader(program, fs); gl.linkProgram(program); // Some debug code to check for shader compile errors and log them to console if (!gl.getShaderParameter(vs, gl.COMPILE_STATUS)) console.log(gl.getShaderInfoLog(vs)); if (!gl.getShaderParameter(fs, gl.COMPILE_STATUS)) console.log(gl.getShaderInfoLog(fs)); if (!gl.getProgramParameter(program, gl.LINK_STATUS)) console.log(gl.getProgramInfoLog(program)); /* Create some simple VBOs*/ // Vertices for a cube var vertices = new Float32Array([ -0.5, 0.5, 0.5, // 0 -0.5, -0.5, 0.5, // 1 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, // 2 0.5, -0.5, 0.5, // 3 -0.5, 0.5, -0.5, // 4 -0.5, -0.5, -0.5, // 5 -0.5, 0.5, -0.5, // 6 -0.5,-0.5, -0.5 // 7 ]); // Indices of the cube var indicies = new Int16Array([ 0, 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, // front 5, 4, 6, 5, 6, 7, // back 0, 1, 5, 0, 5, 4, // left 2, 3, 6, 6, 3, 7, // right 0, 4, 2, 4, 2, 6, // top 5, 3, 1, 5, 3, 7 // bottom ]); // create vertices object on the GPU vbo = gl.createBuffer(); gl.bindBuffer(gl.ARRAY_BUFFER, vbo); gl.bufferData(gl.ARRAY_BUFFER, vertices, gl.STATIC_DRAW); // Create indicies object on th GPU ibo = gl.createBuffer(); gl.bindBuffer(gl.ELEMENT_ARRAY_BUFFER, ibo); gl.bufferData(gl.ELEMENT_ARRAY_BUFFER, indicies, gl.STATIC_DRAW); gl.clearColor(0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 1.0); gl.enable(gl.DEPTH_TEST); // Render scene every 33 milliseconds setInterval(render, 33); } var mvMatrix = mat4.create(); var pMatrix = mat4.create(); function render() { // Set our viewport and clear it before we render gl.viewport(0, 0, canvas.width, canvas.height); gl.clear(gl.COLOR_BUFFER_BIT | gl.DEPTH_BUFFER_BIT); gl.useProgram(program); // Bind appropriate VBOs gl.bindBuffer(gl.ARRAY_BUFFER, vbo); gl.bindBuffer(gl.ELEMENT_ARRAY_BUFFER, ibo); // Set the color for the fragment shader program.uColor = gl.getUniformLocation(program, "uColor"); gl.uniform4fv(program.uColor, [0.3, 0.3, 0.3, 1.0]); // // code.google.com/p/glmatrix/wiki/Usage program.uPMatrix = gl.getUniformLocation(program, "uPMatrix"); program.uMVMatrix = gl.getUniformLocation(program, "uMVMatrix"); mat4.perspective(45, gl.viewportWidth / gl.viewportHeight, 1.0, 10.0, pMatrix); mat4.identity(mvMatrix); mat4.translate(mvMatrix, [0.0, -0.25, -1.0]); gl.uniformMatrix4fv(program.uPMatrix, false, pMatrix); gl.uniformMatrix4fv(program.uMVMatrix, false, mvMatrix); // Set the position for the vertex shader program.aVertexPosition = gl.getAttribLocation(program, "aVertexPosition"); gl.enableVertexAttribArray(program.aVertexPosition); gl.vertexAttribPointer(program.aVertexPosition, 3, gl.FLOAT, false, 3*4, 0); // position // Render the Object gl.drawElements(gl.TRIANGLES, 36, gl.UNSIGNED_SHORT, 0); } Thanks in advance for any help

  • How to develop on a branch in HG

    - by michael
    Hi, I would like to do some experimental work in a hg project. So I would like to create branch, commit to it. And if the experiment works, I can merge it back to main branch. In git, I can do $git branch experimental $git checkout experimental (edit file) $ git commit -a $ git checkout master I read http://stevelosh.com/blog/2009/08/a-guide-to-branching-in-mercurial/, it said ' hg branch feature'. But what is next? I don't follow. I appreciate if you can help. Thank you.

  • Entry points on different urls possible?

    - by user246114
    Hi, I've got a typical gwt project, but am using some url rewriting techniques such that urls entered like: www.mysite.com/johndoe www.mysite.com/janedoe all get served by my main entrypoint project.jsp file. This works great when deployed. When I'm running in hosted mode, it's a total bummer because changing the url in the browser breaks the link with the hosted-mode debugging, such that when I make changes to the source in eclipse and refresh, those changes are not immediately shown. I need to recompile the app and relaunch, and we all know how long that takes. Is there any way to somehow get the hosted-mode environment to recognize that the same webapp is being served on these different urls, and just reconnect the debugging connection? We basically get: http://localhost:8888/myproject.jsp?gwt.codesvr=192.168.1.2:9997 when launching hosted mode, I'd like: http://localhost:8888/johndoe to just reconnect to the debugger, if possible. Thanks

  • Rewriting .each() loop as for loop to optimize, how to replicate $(this).attr()

    - by John B
    I running into some performance issues with a jquery script i wrote when running in ie so I'm going through it trying to optimize any way possible. Apparently using for loops is way faster than using the jQuery .each method. This has led me to a question regarding the equivalent of $(this) inside a for loop. I'm simplifying what I'm doing in my loop down to just using an attr() function as it gets across my main underlying question. Im doing this with each(simplified) var existing = $('#existing'); existing.each(function(){ console.log($(this).attr('id')); }); And I've tried rewriting it as a for loop as such: var existing = $('#existing'); for(var i = 0;i < existing.length;i++) { console.log(existing[i].attr('id')); } Its throwing an error saying: Uncaught TypeError: Object #<HTMLDivElement> has no method 'attr' Thanks.

  • Stop native web app from reloading itself upon opening on iOS

    - by cguedel
    I'm trying to build a "native web app" using HTML + JS on iOS. As you may know you can add such an application to the homescreen and it will more or less look just like a normal native app. However if I quit such an app and reopen it again it reloads the whole page again. This also happens when switching to such an application from another over the multitasking bar. Is this expected behaviour or is there a way to stop the device from doing this? As an example you can add the jqTouch-Demos from here to your homescreen and test it: http://jqtouch.com/preview/demos/main/

  • Explanation of output

    - by Anon
    My program class Building { Building() { System.out.print("b "); } Building(String name) { this(); System.out.print("bn " + name); } }; public class House extends Building { House() { System.out.print("h "); // this is line# 1 } House(String name) { this(); // This is line#2 System.out.print("hn " + name); } public static void main(String[] args) { new House("x "); } } We know that compiler will write a call to super() as the first line in the child class's constructor. Therefore should not the output be: b (call from compiler written call to super(), before line#2 b (again from compiler written call to super(),before line#1 ) h hn x But the output is b h hn x Why is that?

  • What is the best strategy for populating a TableView from a service?

    - by alrutherford
    I have an application which has a potentially long running background process. I want this process to populate a TableView as results objects are generated. The results objects are added to an observableList and have properties which are bound to the columns in the usual fashion for JavaFX. As an example of this consider the following sample code Main Application import java.util.LinkedList; import javafx.application.Application; import javafx.collections.FXCollections; import javafx.collections.ObservableList; import javafx.event.ActionEvent; import javafx.event.EventHandler; import javafx.geometry.Insets; import javafx.scene.Group; import javafx.scene.Scene; import javafx.scene.control.Button; import javafx.scene.control.TableColumn; import javafx.scene.control.TableView; import javafx.scene.control.cell.PropertyValueFactory; import javafx.scene.layout.VBox; import javafx.stage.Stage; public class DataViewTest extends Application { private TableView<ServiceResult> dataTable = new TableView<ServiceResult>(); private ObservableList<ServiceResult> observableList; private ResultService resultService; public static void main(String[] args) { launch(args); } @Override public void start(Stage stage) { observableList = FXCollections.observableArrayList(new LinkedList<ServiceResult>()); resultService = new ResultService(observableList); Button refreshBtn = new Button("Update"); refreshBtn.setOnAction(new EventHandler<ActionEvent>() { @Override public void handle(ActionEvent arg0) { observableList.clear(); resultService.reset(); resultService.start(); } }); TableColumn<ServiceResult, String> nameCol = new TableColumn<ServiceResult, String>("Value"); nameCol.setCellValueFactory(new PropertyValueFactory<ServiceResult, String>("value")); nameCol.setPrefWidth(200); dataTable.getColumns().setAll(nameCol); // productTable.getItems().addAll(products); dataTable.setItems(observableList); Scene scene = new Scene(new Group()); stage.setTitle("Table View Sample"); stage.setWidth(300); stage.setHeight(500); final VBox vbox = new VBox(); vbox.setSpacing(5); vbox.setPadding(new Insets(10, 0, 0, 10)); vbox.getChildren().addAll(refreshBtn, dataTable); ((Group) scene.getRoot()).getChildren().addAll(vbox); stage.setScene(scene); stage.show(); } } Service public class ResultService extends Service<Void> { public static final int ITEM_COUNT = 100; private ObservableList<ServiceResult> observableList; /** * Construct service. * */ public ResultService(ObservableList<ServiceResult> observableList) { this.observableList = observableList; } @Override protected Task<Void> createTask() { return new Task<Void>() { @Override protected Void call() throws Exception { process(); return null; } }; } public void process() { for (int i = 0; i < ITEM_COUNT; i++) { observableList.add(new ServiceResult(i)); } } } Data public class ServiceResult { private IntegerProperty valueProperty; /** * Construct property object. * */ public ServiceResult(int value) { valueProperty = new SimpleIntegerProperty(); setValue(value); } public int getValue() { return valueProperty.get(); } public void setValue(int value) { this.valueProperty.set(value); } public IntegerProperty valueProperty() { return valueProperty; } } Both the service and the TableView share a reference to the observable list? Is this good practise in JavaFx and if not what is the correct strategy? If you hit the the 'Update' button the list will not always refresh to the ITEM_COUNT length. I believe this is because the observableList.clear() is interfering with the update which is running in the background thread. Can anyone shed some light on this?

  • Building 16 bit os - character array not working

    - by brainbarshan
    Hi. I am building a 16 bit operating system. But character array does not seem to work. Here is my example kernel code: asm(".code16gcc\n"); void putchar(char); int main() { char *str = "hello"; putchar('A'); if(str[0]== 'h') putchar('h'); return 0; } void putchar(char val) { asm("movb %0, %%al\n" "movb $0x0E, %%ah\n" "int $0x10\n" : :"m"(val) ) ; } It prints: A that means putchar function is working properly but if(str[0]== 'h') putchar('h'); is not working. I am compiling it by: gcc -fno-toplevel-reorder -nostdinc -fno-builtin -I./include -c -o ./bin/kernel.o ./source/kernel.c ld -Ttext=0x9000 -o ./bin/kernel.bin ./bin/kernel.o -e 0x0 What should I do?

  • inconsistency between Sun JRE javac and Eclipse java compiler?

  • How do I can linux flock command to prevent another root process deleting a file?

    - by Danmaxis
    Hello there, I would like to prevent one of my root process from deleting a certaing file. So I came across the flock command, it seems to fit my need, but I didnt get its sintax. If I only indicate a shared lock, it doesnt work: flock -s "./file.xml" If I add a timeout parameter, it still doesnt work flock -s -w5 "./file.xml" It seems that way, it fits in flock [-sxun][-w #] fd# way. (What is this fd# parameter?) So, I tried the flock [-sxon][-w #] file [-c] command Using flock -s -w5 "./file.xml" -c "tail -3 ./file.xml" and it worked, tail command at ./file.xml was executed. But I would like to know, does the lock end after the command or does it last 5 seconds after the end of the command execution? My main question is, how can I prevent another root process deleting a file in linux?

  • Writing an Eval Procedure in Scheme?

    - by Planeman
    My problem isn't with the built-in eval procedure but how to create a simplistic version of it. Just for starters I would like to be able to take this in '(+ 1 2) and have it evaluate the expression + where the quote usually takes off the evaluation. I have been thinking about this and found a couple things that might be useful: Unquote: , (quasiquote) (apply) My main problem is regaining the value of + as a procedure and not a symbol. Once I get that I think I should just be able to use it with the other contents of the list. Any tips or guidance would be much appreciated.

  • How to create a GtkImage from a Cairo context?

    - by Zurbo82
    I got a paint function that works using a Cairo context and the end result should be a GtkImage (without intermediate image creation). I tried to use the gdk_cairo_create function but this code: ... GdkPixbuf *pixbuf = gdk_pixbuf_new (GDK_COLORSPACE_RGB, FALSE, 8, 22, 22); GtkWidget *image = gtk_image_new_from_pixbuf (pixbuf); GdkDrawable *drawable = image->window; cairo_t *ctx = gdk_cairo_create (drawable); my_cairo_paint_function (ctx); ... fails with: Gdk-CRITICAL **: IA__gdk_cairo_create: assertion `GDK_IS_DRAWABLE (drawable)' failed Same with a simple: #include <gtk/gtk.h> #include <cairo.h> int main (int argc, char *argv[]) { gtk_init(&argc, &argv); cairo_t *ctx = gdk_cairo_create (gtk_widget_get_window (gtk_image_new_from_file ("foobar.png"))); gtk_main(); return 0; } I don't understand why this fails. Any help is appreciated!

  • C++ Why is the copy constructor implicitly called?

The code below compiles, but shouldn't it not compile since I haven't provided bool Child::operator!=(Base const&)? class Base { }; class Child : public Base { public: Child() {} Child(Base const& base_) : Base(base_) { std::cout <<"should never called!"; } bool operator!=(Child const&) { return true; } }; void main() { Base base; Child child; if(child != base) std::cout << "not equal"; else std::cout << "equal"; }

  • When can argv[0] have null ?

    - by andrew-dufresne
    What I have understand about passing arguments to main() from command line is that argc has a minimum value of 1 and argv[0] will always have the program name with its path in it. If arguments are provided at the command line, then argc will have a value greater than one and argv1 to argv[argc-1] will have those arguments. Now a paragraph at this link says that argv[0] will be a string containing the program's name or a null string if that is not available. Now, how and when can argv[0] have null string? I mean program name with its path will always be available so when can it be null? Writer says that "if that is not available" but when and how it is possible that program name will not be available? Thanks for your time and support. Regards

  • Is there any advantage to having more than 16gb ram on a Windows Dev machine?

    - by Robert Kozak
    Assuming a machine (Dual Quad Core Xeon (2.26GHz) with 24GB RAM) running Windows Server 2008 and Hyper-V. How many VMs can I expect to run at the same time with good performance. Is this overkill? Can you really have too much RAM? Assuming 2GB per VM thats around 16GB for the VMs with 8GB left over for the Main OS and Hyper-V. Sound about right? Edit: Tried to make the question sound less like bragging. Was never my intention. Its a hard question to write.

When I step into the loop, the code works well, but when I execute it, the console is always there. It is as if the program is still running. Could it be that the program takes time to execute? My Code static void Main(string[] args) { long number = 5; for (long i = 1; i < 600851475143; i++) { if (i % 2 != 0 && i % 1 == 0 && i % i == 0) number = i; } }
