  Good day! I recently installed 12.04. I am having a hard time connecting to the Internet using my Sun Broadband Wireless. I installed the 64-bit version. I am from the Philippines. When I plug in my USB stick, it does not show up on the Network Manager/ no new connection can be detected. I try to edit it using Edit Connections but still to no avail. I have tried doing these steps from kenji08, kartonista, and from review-ninja (for this one, I can't seem to get pass the first step.) I hope those information can help.

  When I am writing up stored procedures in SSMS sometimes I need to know what column types are used in a table. For instance I will know the table name but I might not remember exactly the length of a varchar column or if a column stored the data as an integer or varchar. And I may not want to scroll through all the tables in Object Explorer to find the one I want. A lot of times it is easier if I can just write a quick query to pull up the information I need. The syntax to do something like this is pretty easy. SELECT COLUMN_NAME, DATA_TYPE, CHARACTER_MAXIMUM_LENGTH FROM yourdbname.information_schema.columns WHERE TABLE_NAME = ‘yourtablename’ After running that you will get a listing in the Results pane just like any other query with the column name, data type and length (if any).   I’m using Ubuntu 14.04 and want to copy music to/on my iPhone 3gs. I already installed the actual mobile device, but neither Rhythmbox nor gmusicbrowser show my phone. Only on Gigolo I can see it, and transfer data, but the music I copy is not working on my phone.   I've bought VMware Workstation 8 just today. After the installation I launched it and the application noticed me that "several modules must be compiled and loaded into the running kernel". During the process, VMware noticed me that was impossible to configure Virtual Network Devices and at the end, was impossible to start the services. The last message said that further information could be found at this address: /tmp/vmware-root-975001794/modconfig-22789.log So, I've pasted the content of the log message here. Can you help me or, rather, you suggest to wait for future updates of Ubuntu? My desktop environment is Unity.

• How can I tell System Restore in WIndows 7 recovery console to use my recovered backup drive's restore point data?

  My Windows 7 desktop PC failed to boot. It would get to a grayish screen with a mouse and would only respond to the power button. After much examination I found that the problem was not a failed drive as running CHKDSK from the Recovery Console on my main drives passed without any errors. I had been installing various Java version in the days before the failure so I decided to use a restore point to roll backwards. I have an external SATA drive controller with two 2 TB drives mirrored using the Windows mirroring function. My system has been backing up to this drive regularly. The problem is I accidently broke the mirror when testing to see if this drive system might have been causing my boot issue. Connecting it to another machine showed two dynamic drives that were invalid. In the end I reformatted one as an NTFS basic disc and used recovery software on the other to copy all of the files to the reformatted drive. I had to copy the restore points into the new drive's System Volume Information folder by granting rights to that user. I moved the drive back to the original machine and rebooted. I can see my new drive, it even uses the same drive letter as it did in normal mode. Running System Restore it lists a new Automatic Restore point created while sitting at the RC along with all of my backups. Selecting the backup I want (or any other) I get a dialog. The backup drive could not be found. System Restore is looking for restore points on your backup. Make sure the backup drive is on and connected to this computer and then click OK. What do I need to do to allow system restore to see the restore points?

• How can I authenticate Ubuntu Software Center with user password?

Ideally, I would change the settings so that any user with sudo permissions could install packages. If that is not possible, I would like to be able to list all users that should be able to install. I know that this involves making changes to Policy Kit, and I have read a page with a similar question. • Repainting a window with a new scene with winapi (beginner question)

  I'm following theForger's win32 API tutorial in order to create a GUI for a project. I've successfully made simple, one window applications, but I can't figure out how to repaint an entire window with new information. As an example: I have five buttons corresponding to five colors on the main application window. When a user clicks a color button, the entire window is repainted such that: 1. all five buttons are removed and a new "back" button is replaced, 2. the background is colored the color that was picked. I'm able to change the background color by trapping the button pressed message in my wndproc, but I can't figure out how to change the entire window with a new "scene" (removing the color buttons and adding a back button). This seems like a trivial task, but I can't find a solution in tutorials. Do I need to declare a new windows class with the back button and then have my button trap create a window of this class?

• MySQL prevents server from booting unless password is entered

The issue is that when we turn the server on or restart it we are required to enter the MySQL password before it will continue. Where can we script a password or disable this? • Missing shared library for Rhythmbox

  After I upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10 my rhythmbox wouldn't work. After many failed attempts I ended up uninstalling and removing all traces of rhythmbox I could find. Now I've reinstalled rhythmbox, and am getting the error rhythmbox: error while loading shared libraries: librhythmbox-core.so.7: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I've tried sudo apt-get install librhythmbox* Only to get Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... • Need solution for Network/Servers.

  Dear All, Please help me. I just joined a new Hospital and want some help managing my network. There are some requirements: Current Network: There is a D.S.L connection and that is terminated on a LINUX proxy and then connected to D-Link layer 2 switches and then providing internet to more then 200 PC's (Would be increasing to 1500 in couple of months). D-Link switches are not configured yet. Also there is one Database server Report server and an application server. In near Future Application should be accessed by local users as well as remote users from internet via our web server. We do have a sharing server and all these servers databases and PC's are on single sub net. Required Network: All i do want is to secure my network from outside access and just allowing specific users via web application and they will be submitting there record for patient card and appointment facility by means of application and entering there record (on our database) but not violating our network resources. Secondly in house users also need to access the same application and also internet but they must have some unique identity and rights (i.e. Finance lab dept. peoples do have limited access to that application). Notes: Should i create V LAN or break sub nets. Having a firewall will solve my issues? is a router needed on these type of scenario's. Currently all the access are restricted from Linux Proxy. When i'm trying to get into foobar.com/dir providing valid username/password pair i get 403 forbidden page instead of that directory contents. www.foobar.com/dir has 777 rights, .httpaswd is chmoded 644.   There is no unity dash or nothing after I updated my system last night. System Information : Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Release: 14.04 Codename: trusty Kernel Version : 3.13.0-27-generic And I have NVIDIA drivers 331.67 installed. I have also tried to fix this by following the advice from this post : Unity doesn't load, no Launcher, no Dash appears But no luck. In the CompizConfig Settings Manager, Ubuntu Unity Plugins is enabled, but no unity, even after a reboot. If there is a way to retrieve the list of packages which got updated the last time, please tell me so that I can post them here.

• Boot screen appears to be asking a question but garbled

  I'm running 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Kernel 3.2.0-32 w/ GNOME 3.4.2 I perused the prior questions/answers and did not find exactly the same problem, I am concerned that AUTOFSCK, Grub or some other critical event that needs some attention ? Any idea on how to get my video clean during boot? Once I get past the boot screen the video driver/card, etc is performing beautifully ! • Wrong EFI System Partition GUID?

  On a new GPT initialized disk (second PC disk) I created a FAT32 partition using gparted. I want to use it as an EFI System Partition so I flagged it as boot. After that I checked the UUID using the gparted “partition information” option and it reported: 09B1-97A5. As far as I understand it should be C12A7328-F81F-11D2-BA4B-00A0C93EC93B. I also checked my running operative system disk (Ubuntu 14) and found that Gparted reports EB78-9AD2 for my actual boot partition UUID. What exactly is gparted reporting as UUID on my EFI system partition and why it doesn’t match with the expected C12A7328-F81F-11D2-BA4B-00A0C93EC93B ID?
