• How to compile and build C# projects with Ant and Mono?

  I am currently working on a project with both java and C# codes within. Java takes the major role in this project. However, C# still takes a small part in it. I am using Ant to build the projects, and would very much like to use it to build C# too. I have learned that it's possible to build C# under Ant with the help of Mono. Can anybody provide any link of tutorial or guidance here? I was trying to google for it. But I haven't found any comprehensive data.

• The relationship between OPC and DCOM

  Hi all, I am trying to grasp the link between OPC and DCOM. I have watched all four of the tutorials here and I think I have a good feeling for what OPC is, but in one of the tutorials (the third one 35 seconds in) the narrator states that OPC is based on DCOM, but I do not understand how the two are really linked. My confusion comes from a question my professor posed in which he asked "How and where would you deploy OPC instead of DCOM and vice-versa." His question makes it seem like the two are not as linked as my research suggests. I'm not looking for anyone to answer the question, I just want to know the relation between OPC and DCOM, then I can figure the rest out. Specifically I would like to know if: 1.) One is always based on the other 2.) One can always be deployed without the other.

  TelephonyManager.getNetworkType() returns one of the constant values. It appears that the constant values have an integer order, by possible bearer link speed. I know using constant values used in the following manner is generally bad, however could one use this to determine a basic cutoff for application functionality and have it work between API levels?   I was going through this link to understand CodeAccessSecurity: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/security/UB_CAS_NET.aspx It's a great article but it left me with following questions: If you can demand and get whatever permissions you want, then any executable can get Full_Trust on machine. If permissions are already there, then why do we need to demand those? Code is executing on Server, so the permissions are on server not on client machine? Article takes an example of removing write permissions from an assembly to show security exception. Though in real world, System.IO assembly (or related classes) will take care of these permissions. So is there a real scenario where we will need CAS?

When compiling this, there is a runtime error which says "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." highlighting the foreach line. I can't understand, why the environment has become irritable to this humble,innocent and useless piece of code. I would also like to know, does HTMLAgilityPack accept HTML classes as nodes?

• In Javascript event handling, why "return false" or "event.preventDefault()" and "stopping the event

  It is said that when we handle a "click event", returning false or calling event.preventDefault() makes a difference, in which the difference is that preventDefault will only prevent the default event action to occur, i.e. a page redirect on a link click, a form submission, etc. and return false will also stop the event flow. Does that mean, if the click event is registered several times for several actions, using $('#clickme').click(function() { … }) returning false will stop the other handlers from running? I am on a Mac now and so can only use Firefox and Chrome but not IE, which has a different event model, and tested it on FF and Chrome and all 3 handlers ran without any stopping…. so what is the real difference, or, is there a situation where "stopping the event flow" is not desirable? this is related to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3042036/using-jquerys-animate-if-the-clicked-on-element-is-a-href-a and http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2017755/whats-the-difference-between-e-preventdefault-and-return-false

• Quaddratic Bezier Curve: Calculate Tangent

  Hello, I have have a quadratic bezier curve and I want to calculate the slope of the tangent in a given point. For example, let it be the middlepoint of the quadratic bezier curve, therefore t=0.5 (please see the link below for a picture of this). I've calculated the first derivation of the formula for the quadratic bezier curve, however I get 400 as value for the slope, though it should be 0. Maybe I'm using the first derivation in a wrong way? I know I could also calculate the tangents using trigonometric functions, however I'd like to do it using the first derivation, shouldn't this be possible? Thanks for any hint! For clarification / please note: I'm interested in a general way to get the slope in a arbitrary given point on a quadratic bezier curve, not only to get the tangent in the start- and end point.   I am having trouble doing a reverse URL lookup for Django-generated feeds. I have the following setup in urls.py: feeds = { 'latest': LatestEntries, } urlpatterns = patterns('', # ... # enable feeds (RSS) url(r'^feeds/(?P<url>.*)/$', 'django.contrib.syndication.views.feed', {'feed_dict': feeds}, name='feeds_view'), ) I have tried using the following template tag: <a href="{% url feeds_view latest %}">RSS feeds</a> But the resulting link is not what want (http://my.domain.com/feeds//). It should be http://my.domain.com/feeds/latest/. For now, I am using a hack to generate the URL for the template: <a href="http://{{ request.META.HTTP_HOST }}/feeds/latest">RSS feeds</a> But, as you can see, it clearly is not DRY. Is there something I am missing?

  I need to insert a value into a selectlist. It isn't the "0" value (i.e. the first one that shows) but the next one which would be "Other". This is then used to display an "Other" textbox. My question is similiar to link text. • Ubuntu: What gcc to use when crosscompiling for the STM32 (Cortex-M3)?

  Hi I'm trying to get started with the STM32 (Cortex-M3) and my plan is get this working from Ubuntu (9.04 / AMD64). To start with I got the Olimex stm32-h103 header board and the Olimex ARM-USB-OCD jtag, and on to of that I will probably use OpenOCD, gcc and Eclipse. But right now I'm looking into what version of gcc to use and how to setup that to be able to crosscompile the code. There seem to be some arm projects out there but I don't know what to start with, can somebody push me in the right direction? Thanks Johan Update: There seems almost to be what I want from codesourcery, but they seem to focus on IA32 and not AMD64. However in the supported devices I find the Cortex-M3 ARM EABI, ARM M-profile Simulator -mcpu=cortex-m3 -mthumb Update: There is a possibility to install IA32 on AMD64, so maybe the marked answer is obsolete already.   For what I've read I need Python-Dev, how do I install it on OSX? I think the problem I have, is, my Xcode was not properly installed, and I don't have the paths where I should. Let me know which one of the following is your favorite article from memory lane. 2007 Two Connections Related Global Variables Explained – @@CONNECTIONS and @@MAX_CONNECTIONS @@CONNECTIONS Returns the number of attempted connections, either successful or unsuccessful since SQL Server was last started. @@MAX_CONNECTIONS Returns the maximum number of simultaneous user connections allowed on an instance of SQL Server. The number returned is not necessarily the number currently configured. Query Editor – Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio This post may be very simple for most of the users of SQL Server 2005. Earlier this year, I have received one question many times – Where is Query Analyzer in SQL Server 2005? I wrote small post about it and pointed many users to that post – SQL SERVER – 2005 Query Analyzer – Microsoft SQL SERVER Management Studio. Recently I have been receiving similar question. OUTPUT Clause Example and Explanation with INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE SQL Server 2005 has a new OUTPUT clause, which is quite useful. OUTPUT clause has access to insert and deleted tables (virtual tables) just like triggers. OUTPUT clause can be used to return values to client clause. OUTPUT clause can be used with INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE to identify the actual rows affected by these statements. OUTPUT clause can generate a table variable, a permanent table, or temporary table. Even though, @@Identity will still work with SQL Server 2005, however I find the OUTPUT clause very easy and powerful to use. Let us understand the OUTPUT clause using an example. Find Name of The SQL Server Instance Based on database server stored procedures has to run different logic. We came up with two different solutions. 1) When database schema is very much changed, we wrote completely new stored procedure and deprecated older version once it was not needed. 2) When logic depended on Server Name we used global variable @@SERVERNAME. It was very convenient while writing migrating script which depended on the server name for the same database. Explanation of TRY…CATCH and ERROR Handling With RAISEERROR Function One of the developers at my company thought that we can not use the RAISEERROR function in new feature of SQL Server 2005 TRY… CATCH. When asked for an explanation he suggested SQL SERVER – 2005 Explanation of TRY… CATCH and ERROR Handling article as excuse suggesting that I did not give example of RAISEERROR with TRY…CATCH. We all thought it was funny. Just to keep records straight, TRY… CATCH can sure use RAISEERROR function. Different Types of Cache Objects Serveral kinds of objects can be stored in the procedure cache: Compiled Plans: When the query optimizer finishes compiling a query plan, the principal output is compiled plan. Execution contexts: While executing a compiled plan, SQL Server has to keep track of information about the state of execution. Cursors: Cursors track the execution state of server-side cursors, including the cursor’s current location within a resultset. Algebrizer trees: The Algebrizer’s job is to produce an algebrizer tree, which represents the logic structure of a query. Open SSMS From Command Prompt – sqlwb.exe Example This article is written by request and suggestion of Sr. Web Developer at my organization. Due to the nature of this article most of the content is referred from Book On-Line. sqlwbcommand prompt utility which opens SQL Server Management Studio. Squib command does not run queries from the command prompt. sqlcmd utility runs queries from command prompt, read for more information. 2008 Puzzle – Solution – Computed Columns Datatype Explanation Just a day before I wrote article SQL SERVER – Puzzle – Computed Columns Datatype Explanation which was inspired by SQL Server MVP Jacob Sebastian. I suggest that before continuing this article read the original puzzle question SQL SERVER – Puzzle – Computed Columns Datatype Explanation.The question was if the computed column was of datatype TINYINT how to create a Computed Column of datatype INT? 2008 – Find If Index is Being Used in Database It is very often I get a query that how to find if any index is being used in the database or not. If any database has many indexes and not all indexes are used it can adversely affect performance. If the number of indices are higher it reduces the INSERT / UPDATE / DELETE operation but increase the SELECT operation. It is recommended to drop any unused indexes from table to improve the performance. 2009 Interesting Observation – Execution Plan and Results of Aggregate Concatenation Queries If you want to see what’s going on here, I think you need to shift your point of view from an implementation-centric view to an ANSI point of view. ANSI does not guarantee processing the order. Figure 2 is interesting, but it will be potentially misleading if you don’t understand the ANSI rule-set SQL Server operates under in most cases. Implementation thinking can certainly be useful at times when you really need that multi-million row query to finish before the backup fire off, but in this case, it’s counterproductive to understanding what is going on. SQL Server Management Studio and Client Statistics Client Statistics are very important. Many a times, people relate queries execution plan to query cost. This is not a good comparison. Both parameters are different, and they are not always related. It is possible that the query cost of any statement is less, but the amount of the data returned is considerably larger, which is causing any query to run slow. How do we know if any query is retrieving a large amount data or very little data? 2010 I encourage all of you to go through complete series and write your own on the subject. I always remembered the syntax and ha d actually written it down before, but somehow it was not coming to mind quickly this time. I searched online and I ended up on my own article written last year SQL SERVER – Get Last Running Query Based on SPID. I felt that I am getting old because I forgot this really simple syntax. Find Total Number of Transaction on Interval In one of my recent Performance Tuning assignments I was asked how do someone know how many transactions are happening on a server during certain interval. I had a handy script for the same. Following script displays transactions happened on the server at the interval of one minute. You can change the WAITFOR DELAY to any other interval and it should work. 2011 Here are two DMV’s which are newly introduced in SQL Server 2012 and provides vital information about SQL Server. DMV – sys.dm_os_volume_stats – Information about operating system volume DMV – sys.dm_os_windows_info – Information about Operating System SQL Backup and FTP – A Quick and Handy Tool I have used this tool extensively since 2009 at numerous occasion and found it to be very impressive. What separates it from the crowd the most – it is it’s apparent simplicity and speed. When I install SQLBackupAndFTP and configure backups – all in 1 or 2 minutes, my clients are always impressed. Quick Note about JOIN – Common Questions and Simple Answers In this blog post we are going to talk about join and lots of things related to the JOIN. • XHTML / CSS help?

  Basically on GunChester my project I have an few pixel wide gap between #login_top (top image holder) and the 3 CSS col's below, #login_left, #login_centre and #login_right so that my first question why? and how can I fix this, this is in FF, Chrome and IE. Secondly the BG image seems to be overlaying twice as in its stretched at the top then the full picture does display as it should. I did have it working but when trying to fix the pixel gap I must of messed something up but no idea what, so it is now going pear shape, lease help with both these situations :)?   Hello, I would like to use UINavigationBar without decoration. I.e. I would like to create my own custom buttons and link those to the same actions (e.g. back) as the navigation items were linked to and have no bar presented at the top. I was told that one should use navigation bar even though graphically you should design the interaction yourself. How do I go about doing this? I am quite new to navigation bar to start with... There is a way to use the Warden Twitter Oauth strategy within Devise, but I cannot figure it out. Does anyone know how to make this work? I'm assuming there is more to do here (configuring a new link/route to talk to Warden, maybe adding attributes to the Devise User model, etc.), but I can't figure out what they are. Please help.

  I have read several articles/questions/forums discussing the best auto-complete plugin for jQuery. After trying several good ones, I've realized a flaw in most. If you are looking up countries and type 'In', a couple of countries show up. If you continue typing I-n-d-i-a, this results in 5 AJAX calls (see http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/6f1bcd69e1.png) its quite natural that India is a subset of In, so why call again? We need to simply filter the retrieved list client-side. Anyone knows about such an implementation? What is the status of the Jquery Autocomplete feature? I read at StackOverflow that it is no longer available with Jquery; but the Jquery website has a 'New' mark besides the link to Autocomplete. Thanks

  I've found a feature on two different websites that I'd like to include on one of my web projects, but I can't figure out how they're doing it. I think they're using either jQuery or mootools, but I'm not sure. http://www.x-plane.com/index_desktop.html I'm new here so I don't have the reputation to post the other link, but if you do a Google search for "Andrews Institute of Orthopaedics" its the top result. I'll see if I can answer a few questions to earn my keep. The thing that I like about these is that the images and text (including links) are all rotated together. I've done a few web searches related to cycle, rotate and slide but it's not coming together for me. Can anyone give me a nudge in the right direction?

• Controllling Drupal's active/active-trail with duplicate menu items

  I'm developing a site that requires some duplication of links within the menu: Section A -- Introduction -- Testimonials Section B -- Introduction -- Testimonials Testimonials -- Section A -- Section B So 'Section A Testimonials' and 'Testimonials Section A' point to the same node. But regardless of which menu link people use, I want the person to be in Section A. The problem is that D6 doesn't like duplicate menu items, and it assigns the active and active-trail classes rather unpredictably. So my thought was to create a placeholder node for each item in the Testimonials menu, and then set the URL to something like "testimonials/redirect/section-a", and then use mod_rewrite to redirect over to "section-a/testimonials". With this solution, I will have no duplicate paths in the menu. I'm just hoping this doesn't somehow hurt my SEO. Does anyone know a better solution?
