    I've tried out the pooling lifestyle with Windsor.   • Disabling redraw in WinForms app

    I'm working on a C#.Net application which has a somewhat annoying bug in it. The main window has a number of tabs, each of which has a grid on it. When switching from one tab to another, or selecting a different row in a grid, it does some background processing, and during this the menu flickers as it's redrawn (File, Help, etc menu items as well as window icon and title). I tried disabling the redraw on the window while switching tabs/rows (WM_SETREDRAW message) at first. In one case, it works perfectly. In the other, it solves the immediate bug (title/menu flicker), but between disabling the redraw and enabling it again, the window is "transparent" to mouse clicks - there's a small window (<1 sec) in which I can click and it will, say, highlight an icon on my desktop, as if the app wasn't there at all. If I have something else running in the background (Firefox, say) it will actually get focus when clicked (and draw part of the browser, say the address bar.) Some text in the page can be selected. This text is composed of one or more DOM elements. When button1 is clicked, I want to retrieve the DOM elements that compose the selected text in the page and give an id to one of those elements and save add these ids to a list (in C# space). How can I do this?

  • "Replay" the steps needed to recreate an error

    I am going to create a typical business application that will be used by a few hundred consultants. Normally, the consultants would be presented with an error message with a standard text. As the application will be a complicated one with lots of changes being made to it constantly I would like the following: When an error message is presented, the user has the option to "send" the error message to the developers. The developers should be able to open the incoming file in i.e. Eclipse and debug the steps of the last 10 minutes of work step by step (one line at a time if they want to). Everything should be transparent, meaning that they for example should be able to see the return values of calls to the database. Are there any solutions that offer such functionality today, my preferred language is Python or also Java. I know that there will be a huge performance hit because of such functionality, but that is acceptable as this kind of software is not performance sensitive. It would be VERY nice if the database also had a cronology so that one could query the database for values that existed at the exact time that a specific line of code was run in the application, leading up to the bug.

  • How to refactor use of the general Exception?

    Our code catches the general exception everywhere. Usually it writes the error to a log table in the database and shows a MessageBox to the user to say that the operation requested failed. If there is database interaction, the transaction is rolled back. I have introduced a business logic layer and a data access layer to unravel some of the logic. In the data access layer, I have chosen not to catch anything and I also throw ArgumentNullExceptions and ArgumentOutOfRangeExceptions so that the message passed up the stack does not come straight from the database. In the business logic layer I put a try catch. In the catch I rollback the transaction, do the logging and rethrow. In the presentation layer there is another try catch that displays a MessageBox. I am now thinking about catching a DataException and an ArgumentException instead of an Exception where I know the code only accesses a database. Where the code accesses a web service, then I thought I would create my own "WebServiceException", which would be created in the data access layer whenever an HttpException, WebException or SoapException is thrown. So now, generally I will be catching 2 or 3 exceptions where currently I catch just the general Exception, and I think that seems OK to me. Does anyone wrap exceptions up again to carry the message up to the presentation layer? I think I should probably add a try catch to Main() that catches Exception, attempts to log it, displays an "Application has encountered an error" message and exits the application. So, my question is, does anyone see any holes in my plan? Are there any obvious exceptions that I should be catching or do these ones pretty much cover it (other than file access - I think there is only 1 place where we read-write to a config file).

    I have a project that generates text (representing an interface and a class) based on metadata. I would like to take this generated code and insert it as a new class and interface directly into the currently opened solution under a specific project and directory. I will create the menu tool that will generate the class but what I don't know how to do is gain access to the following items from within my custom Visual Studio Extension: Iterate the current solution and find a project to dump the generated code into. Open a new file window within Visual Studio and inject the generated text that comes from my tool directly into that window. Create a new folder in a specific project within the current solution from within my custom extension. EDIT - To clarify I need to open a new file (e.g. Right Click on a Project - Add - New Class) and insert text into it from within my custom Visual Studio Extension. Thanks

  • Telerik RadEditor working issue under VS2008

    I've a SharePoint portal for tracking questions in a list. When I open an list item in IE8 Telerik Editor works fine. But if I open this page inside VS2008 in browser mode this control starts to do unexpected actions. It's the Telerik RadEditor for Sharepoint v. 5.3.2.0. Is it a bug of VS2008 or a bug of Telerik RadEditor? Steps to reproduce: Install Telerik RadEditor in SharePoint portal Create a List with Rich editing field and create a new item Paste or type a text into Rich editing field and save changes Open VS2008 Click on any link in start page to open browser window Open created list item in VS in editing mode Mark a part of text in Rich editing field Marked text disappears. So far, everything I have found about multiple languages seems to assume that you want the user interface (menus, etc) and document text in the same language, and that you only want that one language. I would like the interface to stay in English but let me type Hebrew and English into the document text.

  • java BufferedReader specific length returns NUL characters

    I have a TCP socket client receiving messages (data) from a server. messages are of the type length (2 bytes) + data (length bytes), delimited by STX & ETX characters. I'm using a bufferedReader to retrieve the two first bytes, decode the length, then read again from the same bufferedReader the appropriate length and put the result in a char array. most of the time, I have no problem, but SOMETIMES (1 out of thousands of messages received), when attempting to read (length) bytes from the reader, I get only part of it, the rest of my array being filled with "NUL" characters. I imagine it's because the buffer has not yet been filled. char[] bufLen = new char[2]; _bufferedReader.read(bufLen); int len = decodeLength(bufLen); char[] _rawMsg = new char[len]; _bufferedReader.read(_rawMsg); return _rawMsg; I solved the problem in several iterative ways: first I tested the last char of my array: if it wasn't ETX I would read chars from the bufferedReader one by one until I would reach ETX, then start over my regular routine. the consequence is that I would basically DROP one message. then, in order to still retrieve that message, I would find the first occurence of the NUL char in my "truncated" message, read & store additional characters one at a time until I reached ETX, and append them to my "truncated" messages, confirming length is ok. it works also, but I'm really thinking there's something I could do better, like checking if the total number of characters I need are available in the buffer before reading it, but can't find the right way to do it... any idea / pointer ? thanks !

  • How to imitate focus on a div element?

    The scenario involves imitating a drop down list. Instead of the standard input select element, we're using a set of custom images in combination with a few CSS styles and jQuery behaviors. All in all, we have a drop down list that works just fine. The question revolves around a drop down list losing focus. A normal select element losing focus would automatically close the list, however, since we are using a set of divs, it's not possibly to set or lose focus(and subsequently hide the list). We've been able to imitate normal drop down behavior by hiding a text input behind the div and setting the focus to it dynamically. For example: User clicks drop down list - content list is displayed and hidden text input is set as focus. Event is bound to the text input losing focus which hides the content list. I'm curious if the community has a better approach to hiding a div when a user clicks off, presses escape, etc.

  • C#: Windows Forms: Getting keystrokes in a panel/picturebox?

    I'm making a level editor for a game using windows forms. The form has several drop down menus, text boxes, etc, where the user can type information. I want to make commands like CTRL + V or CTRL + A available for working within the game world itself, not text manipulation. The game world is represented by a PictureBox contained in a Panel. This event handler isn't ever firing: private System.Windows.Forms.Panel canvas; // ... this.canvas = new System.Windows.Forms.Panel(); // ... this.canvas.PreviewKeyDown += new System.Windows.Forms.PreviewKeyDownEventHandler(this.canvas_PreviewKeyDown); What is the preferred way of doing this? Can a panel even receive keyboard input? I would like to allow the user to use copy/paste/select-all commands when working with the text input, but not when placing objects in the game world.

  • Excel COM Add-In dialog interrupts script

    Hi all! I have written an Excel COM Add-In in C++ for automation of Excel with VBA. It contains an own dialog showing some general informations about the Add-In. Now i create a button in Excel that opens the dialog. Leaving the dialog with the escape key leads to an Excel message that the script is being interrupted instead of just closing the dialog. I could suppress the interruption message with: Application.EnableCancelKey = xlDisabled But that seems not to be the solution as the script can not be interrupted any more. The behaviour of the following code: channel.exec_command('cat') with open('mumu', 'r') as f: text = f.read() nbytes = 0 while nbytes < len(text): sent = channel.send(text[nbytes:]) if sent == 0: break nbytes += sent should be equivalent to (assuming public-key authentication): ssh user@host cat < mumu However the application hangs waiting for more input. I think this happens because the stdin stream is never closed. How do I do that?
