how to use Foreign key in L2E or EF?

I have a User table which has a PrivilegeId foreign key points to a Privilege table and is the primary key there. In Entity Framework, the VS will not generate a PrivilegeId variable under Users for you. It will generate a Privilege property and PrivilegeReference property for you instead. When I load a User, the Privilege property is null by default. That means EF does not load refered entity for you automatically. I think I may did something wrong? I cannot load Privilege separatedly because I have no info about the Privilege at that time. I guess EF should load the refered entities for me but I missed something. anybody can help me?

SSRS: Master-detail report with two datasources

I have two local data sources that I can push into the report. Works no problem. But how do I set up the report? One data source contains a list of employees, and info about them. The other contains a bunch of working hours for each employee. I would like to use a table for the list of employees, and then have another table for the working hours beneath each employee (with their working hours). Is this even possible? Do I have to use a Sub-Report? Would I have to merge them into one datasource? =/

Controls not aligning properly.

I am using following code to design my home page. The output (as shown below) is not appearing properly. You can see the banner going to far left and the navigation links have a huge gap in between. How to set this? Using PHP/MySQL with Google Maps

Hiya, I followed this tutorial below http://code.google.com/apis/maps/articles/phpsqlajax_v3.html#outputxml I ran into trouble, near then end, I am hoping someone else here has got this working and can help me discover my problem. Simply there are 4 steps to this tutorial Creating the Table Populating the Table Outputting XML with PHP Creating the Map I successfully have completed all the steps, however the outputted xml isn't read by the google map I created. The files are all on the same directory, and I didn't change any of the file names from the tutorial. The tutorial has a step to test if the php file called phpsqlajax_genxml.php is outputting the xml and I successfully tested it and it was. The problem is that the map isn't rendering the items I have in the database, that should be converted to xml for the map to read. Any help, or pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated.

suggestions for Membership in ASP.NET MVC application

With this question I am mostly looking for answers from people that have implemented the out-of-the-box ASP.NET membership in their own database - I've set up the tables inside my database and as far as I can see they contain mostly what I need but not everything. I will have the notion of a Firm (Company) to which Users will belong so I will have to associate the aspnet_Users with my Firms table (each user will be a member of exactly one firm). If possible, provide some guidelines how did you do it and what I might run into if I have to modify the table design at some point in the future. Preferably I will be using the default Membership provider. I am having trouble to decide whether to go from scratch or use what ASP.NET already offers.

There might be NO alternative name for a location in the Locations table: AlternateNames: altNameID | locationID | alternateName | 1 | 2922239 | Berlino | 2 | 2922239 | Berlina | 3 | 291074 | Parisa | 4 | 291074 | Pariso | 5 | 295522 | Orlandola | 6 | 295522 | Orlandolo | What I would like to get is the locationID, name and the countryCode of a location for a location name search like "Berlin", or "Ber": | locationID | name | countryCode | | 2922239 | Berlin | de | However, if the user searches for "Berlino", I would like to get the alternateName back: | locationID | name | countryCode | | 2922239 | Berlino | de | The "locationName" has a higher priority than the alternateName, if the searchterm matches both. I can't figure out how to build a query to do that. Since the name can come from one of the two tables, it seems quite difficult to me. Any help is really appreciated!

How to avoid using duplicate savepoint names in nested transactions in nested stored procs?

I have a pattern that I almost always follow, where if I need to wrap up an operation in a transaction, I do this: BEGIN TRANSACTION SAVE TRANSACTION TX -- Stuff IF @error <> 0 ROLLBACK TRANSACTION TX COMMIT TRANSACTION That's served me well enough in the past, but after years of using this pattern (and copy-pasting the above code), I've suddenly discovered a flaw which comes as a complete shock. Quite often, I'll have a stored procedure calling other stored procedures, all of which use this same pattern. What I've discovered (to my cost) is that because I'm using the same savepoint name everywhere, I can get into a situation where my outer transaction is partially committed - precisely the opposite of the atomicity that I'm trying to achieve. I've put together an example that exhibits the problem. This is a single batch (no nested stored procs), and so it looks a little odd in that you probably wouldn't use the same savepoint name twice in the same batch, but my real-world scenario would be too confusing to post. CREATE TABLE Test (test INTEGER NOT NULL) BEGIN TRAN SAVE TRAN TX BEGIN TRAN SAVE TRAN TX INSERT INTO Test(test) VALUES (1) COMMIT TRAN TX BEGIN TRAN SAVE TRAN TX INSERT INTO Test(test) VALUES (2) COMMIT TRAN TX DELETE FROM Test ROLLBACK TRAN TX COMMIT TRAN TX SELECT * FROM Test DROP TABLE Test When I execute this, it lists one record, with value "1". In other words, even though I rolled back my outer transaction, a record was added to the table. What's happening is that the ROLLBACK TRANSACTION TX at the outer level is rolling back as far as the last SAVE TRANSACTION TX at the inner level. Now that I write this all out, I can see the logic behind it: the server is looking back through the log file, treating it as a linear stream of transactions; it doesn't understand the nesting/hierarchy implied by either the nesting of the transactions (or, in my real-world scenario, by the calls to other stored procedures). So, clearly, I need to start using unique savepoint names instead of blindly using "TX" everywhere. But - and this is where I finally get to the point - is there a way to do this in a copy-pastable way so that I can still use the same code everywhere? Can I auto-generate the savepoint name on the fly somehow? Is there a convention or best-practice for doing this sort of thing? It's not exactly hard to come up with a unique name every time you start a transaction (could base it off the SP name, or somesuch), but I do worry that eventually there would be a conflict - and you wouldn't know about it because rather than causing an error it just silently destroys your data... :-(

Form repeats values

I have a dynamically generated form to accept guest details and store the results into the a session array. However, when I retrieve the details, I keep finding that the last two guest details are always the same even though different inputs were given. External USB attached drive works in Windows XP but not in Windows 7. How to fix?

Earlier this week I purchased this "N52300 EZQuest Pro" external hard drive enclosure from here. I can connect the enclosure using USB 2.0 and access the files in both NTFS partitions on the MBR partitioned drive when I use either Windows XP (SP3) or Mac OS X 10.6. So it works as expected in XP & Snow Leopard. However, the enclosure does not work in Windows 7 (Home Premium) either 64-bit or 32-bit or in Ubuntu 10.04 (kernel 2.6.32-23-generic). I'm thinking this must be a Windows 7 driver problem because the enclosure works in XP & Snow Leopard. I do know that no special drivers are required to use this enclosure. It is supported using the USB mass storage drivers included with XP and OS X. It should also work fine using the mass storage support in Windows 7, no? FWIW, I have also tried using 32-bit Windows 7 on both my desktop, a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 with a Pentium Dual-Core E6500 @ 2.93GHz, and on my early 2008 MacBook. I see the same failure in both cases that I see with 64-bit Windows 7. So it doesn't appear to be specific to one hardware platform. I'm hoping someone out there can help me either get the enclosure to work in Windows 7 or convince me that the enclosure hardware is bad and should be RMAed. At the moment though an RMA seems pointless since this appears to be a (Windows 7) device driver problem. I have tried to track down any updates to the mass storage drivers included with Windows 7 but have so far come up empty. Heck, I can't even figure out how to place a bug report with Microsoft since apparently the grace period for Windows 7 email support is only a few months. I came across a link to some USB troubleshooting steps in another question. I haven't had a chance to look over the suggestions on that site or try them yet. Maybe tomorrow if I have time ... ;-) I'll finish up with some more details about the problem. When I connect the enclosure using USB to Windows 7 at first it appears everything worked. Windows detects the drive and installs a driver for it. Looking in Device Manager there is an entry under the Hard Drives section with the title, Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 USB Device. When you open Windows Disk Management the first time after the enclosure has been attached the drive appears as "Not initialize" and I'm prompted to initialize it. This is bogus. After all, the drive worked fine in XP so I know it has already been initialized, partitioned, and formatted. So of course I never try to initialize it "again". (It's a 1 GB drive and I don't want to lose the data on it). Except for this first time, the drive never shows up in Disk Management again unless I uninstall the Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 USB Device entry under Hard Drives, unplug, and then replug the enclosure. If I do that then the process in the previous paragraph repeats. In Ubuntu the enclosure never shows up at all at the file system level. It appears that Ubuntu at first recongnizes the enclosure and is attempting to attach it, but encounters errors which prevent it from doing so. Today I recieved a 1394b 9 pin to 1394a 6 pin cable which allowed me to connect the "EZQuest Pro" via Firewire. Everything works. When I use Firewire I can connect whether I'm using Windows 7 or Ubuntu 10.04. I even tried booting my Gigabyte desktop as an OS X 10.6.3 Hackintosh and it worked there as well. (Though if I recall correctly, it also worked when using USB 2.0 and booting OS X on the desktop. Certainly it works with USB 2.0 and my MacBook.) I believe the firmware on the device is at the latest level available, v1.07. I base this on the excerpt below from the OS X System Profiler which shows Firmware Revision: 0x107. Bottom line: It's nice that the enclosure is actually usable when I connect with Firewire. But I am still searching for an answer as to why it does not work correctly when using USB 2.0 in Windows 7 (and Ubuntu ... but really Windows 7 is my biggest concern). Drupal CCK 3 Multigroup tables with views

Hi, Each node have CCK-3-dev multigroup with 3 fields. Can I use one of fields as table header? Values of this field are taken from Taxonomy. With a simple recipe example, where food Z and Y are 2 nodes with recipes and each node has multigroup with ingredient name (milk, fish), amount (numbers) and unit (g, kg). Is there a way to create a table like this with views, I want to use views calc to calculate total amount of ingredient needed to prepare multiple recipes: Ingredient A Ingredient B Ingredient C Food Z 200 g 700 g 0 g Food Y 500 g 1000 g 50 g I don't even need units by number, but that would be good too. Anyways, how do I get this?

Using of html5 <video> tag in web-based applications for iPhone

As you know iPhone plays video content from < video tags in full-screen mode via internal media player. Here I have several questions: 1) is it possible to show custom text over video playing? something like subtitles appeared during movie playback. I tried several solutions like http://blog.gingertech.net/2008/12/12/attaching-subtitles-to-html5-video/, but seems they are not working in iPhone case. Ideally, I want to add some div over media player and show necessary information there. 2) is there any way to disable controls of iPhone media player. Seams it is not metter if you add "controls" attrinbute to < video tag or don't add, iPhone always switch on controls for media player. The goal for me is do not allow to user to change playback possition(user should see full movie from start to finish. Of course user can stop the video, but he can't rewind a record) Thanks for your help.

But i get Row Unavailable exception - is my approach wrong? any suggestions?

Hi, I have had a bit of a look around and am having some difficulty solving a wee issue I am having. I basically have a string of HTML, I convert that to a JQuery DOM object so that I can easily remove all elements that have a certain class using JQuery's .remove(). I.e., var radHtml = editor.get_html(); var jqDom = $(radHtml); $(".thickbox", jqDom).remove(); $(".thickboxcontent", jqDom).remove(); editor.set_html(this.innerHTML); NOTE: The HTML is derived from content in a RADEditor text editor so there are no parent HTML tags, so can look as follows: <p>This is a header</p> <p>this is some content followed by a table </p> <a href="#TB_inline?height=350&width=400&inlineId=myOnPageContent0" class="thickbox">Test Thickbox</a> <div id="myOnPageContent0" class="thickboxcontent"> <table class="modal"> <thead> </thead> <tbody> <tr> <td>item</td> <td>result</td> </tr> <tr> <td>item 1</td> <td>1</td> </tr> <tr> <td>item 2</td> <td>2</td> </tr> <tr> <td>item 3</td> <td>3</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> </div> Here is what the jqDom.html() returns from the HTML above: "This is a header" I was wondering if there was an easy way to do this - have some html and remove all elements (in this case divs) that have a certain class (but leaving their contents). JQuery doesnt have to used, but I would like to. Manipulating the DOM object is fine - it is getting the full DOM object in its entirety as a string that I am having the problem with. Database design in blogging systems

As a learning exercise I'm trying to put myself a blogging system. The goal is to code something that will let me create multiple blogs, like blogger.com or wordpress.com, but much simplified. I would like to ask you, what do you think is best database design for this type of script. Is it better to have one big table, containing posts from all blogs of all users (like friendfeed) or would it be better to create separate table for each blog's posts? hi all, i want to show my view as a model view. In iPad there are four method to show the view as modal which is listed 1. Full Screen 2. Page Sheet 3. Form sheet 4. Service broker with SqlNotificationRequest

I am in the process of evaluating a Service Broker with SQL noticiation for my project. My requirements is User places a order from System A and it will update Order Table. As soon as order is place i need to notify the System B. I have done a quick POC with Trigger , Service Broker and SQLNotificaiton ADO.NET. It is working as i expected. What i would like to know the group A) What are the best practices i need to follow for this? B) What are disadvantages with the above approach if any? C) Are there any disadvantes of using the Triggers? If so what are those for above approach? The order table will get order from System A like 1000 to 1500 every day. I also would like to know the performance of above approach.

MySQLi PHP: Check if SQL INSERT query was fully successful using MySQLi

Hi, I have this big function that gets a lot of different data and insert it into multiple tables.. Not all the data is always available so not all the SQL INSERT queries are successful. I need to check which SQL INSERT query was fully successful and which wasn't to the do something with this data (like inserting into a log table or similar). Just to give you an example of how I think it can be done: $sql = 'INSERT INTO data_table (ID, column1, column2) VALUES(?, ?, ?)'; if ($stmt->prepare($sql)) { $stmt->bind_param('iss', $varID, $var1, $var2); if ($stmt->execute()) { $success == TRUE; //or something like that } } I'm not completely sure this is the best way and if its always really show if the data was inserted into the table... Any suggestions??

how to add a sidebar to a .net page based on a master page that doesnt have a sidebar.

Hello, I have been told that I should add a sidebar to one page of this .net project, but the master page don't include a sidebar. How can I add a sidebar to one page only ? MS SQL Server 15MM rows, simple COUNT query. 15+ seconds?

We took over a website from another company after a client decided to switch. We have a table that grows by about 25k records a day, and is currently at 15MM records. The table looks something like: id (PK, int, not null) member_id (int, not null) another_id (int, not null) date (datetime, not null) SELECT COUNT(id) FROM tbl can take up to 15 seconds. A simple inner join on 'another_id' takes over 30 seconds. I can't imagine why this is taking so long. Any advice? SQL Server 2005 Express

.DBML file and LINQ to SQL

In my DBML file I have mapped some tables and stored procedures, and the stored procedures return type is ISingleResult . T is some mapped table. But I want to take the data into my own created entities rather than LINQ to SQL created entites. The entites created by me are also the same as the mapped table entities and their use lies when we send data across the a web service. So , how can I proceed by creating a wrapper around the DBML file so that I always get data in my own created entites.
