  • Merging two templates in iText

    Let's say I have two PDF templates created with Adobe Acrobat, which are both single-page, 8.5x11 documents. The first template (A.pdf) has content for the top half of the page. The second template (B.pdf) has content for the bottom half of the page. (It just so happens the content in both templates does not "overlap" each other.) I would like to use iText to take these two templates and create a single, "merged" template from it (C.pdf) that is only a single page (with A.pdf's content on the top half and B.pdf's content on the bottom half). (I do not want to "merge" these two files into a 2-page document. I need the final product to be a single page.) I will be running iText in a servlet environment (Tomcat 6) but I don't think that makes a difference to the answer. Is this possible?

  • Mixing static and dynamic endpoints in app.yaml file

    I'm trying to describe endpoints in my App Engine app and am having difficulty for directory structures that mix static and dynamic content. But my yaml rules are conflicting with one another. Before I change my directory structure, does anyone have a recommendation? The goal is to create a directory that contains both documentation (static html files) and implementations. /api - /v1 - getitdone.py - doc.html - index.html What I think I should be doing with my application yaml... - url: /api/v1/getitdone script: api/v1/getitdone.py - url: /api/ static_files: api/index.html upload: api/index.html - url: /api static_dir: api But this causes the dynamic endpoints to fail. I'm assuming the static_dir reference is breaking it. How can I do this without describing every script and static file reference (I have many more than are listed here)?

    Is it possible to use Javascript in the content of a page section variation? I want different variations to make different Javascript function calls, so I have variation content like: Variation 1 <script type="text/javascript">my_func('abc');</script> Variation 2 <script type="text/javascript">my_func('def');</script> However, when I preview my page, I can't verify that my_func(content){ alert(content); } is actually being run. Does GWO not support JS content, or am I missing something?

    Hi, I have the following scenario for an MVC 2 website. The user checks a radio. I make a jQuery GET to retrieve some html (partial view + view model). The view-model is annotated with validation attributes. I need client-side validation for the new html's inputs. I tried placing the following line in the partial view: <% Html.EnableClientValidation(); % I was naive. Also for the obtained html I use jQuery's .html to populate my placeholder, which also would execute the javascript. Not that there is any. Is is possible to update the page's validation logic and metadata after the ajax call ? Any ideas (beside remote client side validation) ? Thanks in advance.

    I have http://example.com/index.html, which from within the HTML uses JavaScript to call a web services at http://example.com/json/?a=...&b=... The web service returns to index.html a JSON array of information to then be displayed on index.html. Since anyone can view the source code for index.html and see how I'm calling the JSON web services (http://example.com/json/), how do I prevent people from calling my JSON web service directly? Since the web service is essentially an open read into my database, I don't want people to abuse the web service and start DoS my server, fetching more information than they should, etc..

  • IIS7 + ASP.NET MVC Client Caching Headers Not Working

    Hey folks I've deployed an ASP.NET MVC app on IIS7 and Windows Server 2008. I've read posts on here, and around the web, but can't get the darn client-side caching to work. I'm trying to cache everything in the /Content folder. So far I've select that folder in IIS manager, and set the appropriate HTTP Response Headers (under Common Headers). I've also checked the web.config file in the /Content folder and the values there are being set. All resources in /Content come back with this (from FireBug): Cache-Control no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate Pragma no-cache Content-Type image/png Expires -1 Last-Modified Sun, 11 Oct 2009 19:01:40 GMT Accept-Ranges bytes Etag "f318d643a54aca1:0" Server Microsoft-IIS/7.0 X-Powered-By ASP.NET Date Sun, 11 Oct 2009 20:40:01 GMT Content-Length 620 Note the Cache-Control and Expires values for this static image being requested. The site is currently compiled in Debug (this will change), but surely that wouldn't make a difference? Obviously I'm overlooking something, any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

  • iOS localization inconsistency

    I'm localizing an iPhone app for the first time. I've put all my strings into a Localizable.strings file, accessing them via NSLocalizedString from within my code. Works fine. Next, I have a file called info.html that contains the flesh of a UIWebView that I use as an About box. I've put it in the language folders (en.lproj and de.lproj), and added them to my Resources in Xcode. Now, in Simulator, both the Strings, and the html file display in the appropriate language. However, on the device, the Strings appear localized while the html file remains untranslated. This is a strange inconsistency between Simulator and Device! Anybody know of a workaround? (...other than defying the localization system, and using NSLocalizedString to call de_info.html, en_info.html etc. by hand.)

That content in "content.php" has large images. I want to display an image loader, say "ajax-loader.gif", instead of those large images, until the images are downloaded by client. ( I know how to have an image loader .gif for the images on "index.php". ) How can I achieve this?

  • WPF window scrolling with top menu

    I'm running into a dilemma. When I make the ScrollViewer the main content object of my window, scrolling behaves exactly like I want it to. You resize to make it smaller than the content and the window and scroll bars appear. The problem comes in when I want the to menu to be static and the rest of content to be scrollable. I want the scroll bars to behave the same way as a browser window does, meaning when you resize it, the scroll bars appear based on the size of the content. When you expand the window, the content takes up the entire real estate of the window. Is that possible in WPF? Help would be GREATLY appreciated.

It needs to be translated to languages other than English in the future, and ideally the translators shouldn't need to know HTML/JS/C++ to provide the translation. The server side of the web application is written in C++ and the majority of the localised text is in the HTML files. My question is: What approaches are there to translating web applications? - Are there any existing tools that would enable a translator who doesn't understand HTML to translate a site? Should I write an application that extracts the localised text from a html file and can re-substitute translated text? Do you just provide the html file to your translators to be localised? I'm aware the question isn't strictly programming related but the solution may involve programming and it may require some software engineering.

    I'm writing a Service, a Content Provider, and one or more apps. The Service writes new data to the Content Provider's SQLite database every 5 minutes or so plus at user input, and is intended to run pretty much forever in the background. The app, when running, will display data pulled from the Content Provider, and will be refreshed whenever the Service puts more data into the Content Provider's database. Given that the Service only inserts into the database once every five minutes, when is the right time to call SQLiteOpenHelper's getWritableDatabase() / getReadableDatabase()? Is it on the onCreate() of the Content Provider, or should I run it every time there is an insert() and close it at the end of insert()? The data being inserted every 5 minutes will contain multiple inserts.

  • PHP File Serving Script: Unreliable Downloads?

    This post started as a question on ServerFault ( http://serverfault.com/questions/131156/user-receiving-partial-downloads ) but I determined that our php script was the culprit. So I'm issuing an updated question here about what I believe is the actual issue. I am using a php script to verify permissions and then serve up a file for users of my website to download. Most of the time, this works, but recently one user has been seeing problems with larger downloads. He is only getting ~80% of downloads for files that are 100MB in size. Also, all downloads from this script fail to report a filesize. Further, tests revealed that the same user COULD reliably download each of the failed files if given a direct link (at which point the filesize is reported). Here's the relevant snippet of code that we are using to serve the file: header("Content-type:$contenttype"); $len = filesize($filename); header("Content-Length: $len"); header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=".$title.".".$ext); readfile($filename); Note that $contenttype, $filename, $title, and $ext are all set correctly before we get here. These have been triple-checked. None of them are the problem. Also, $len does provide the correct filesize. While researching this issue, I came across this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1334471/content-length-header-always-zero It seems that I am encountering the same issue. When I use the script, I get chunked encoding on the file and no size is set for content-length. I'm hypothesizing that something is going wrong on the large downloads, leading him to get a zero-length chunk before the end of the file.   • UI not updated while using ProgressMonitorInputStream in Swing to monitor compressed file decompress

    I'm working on swing application that relies on an embedded H2 database. Because I don't want to bundle the database with the app(the db is frequently updated and I want new users of the app to start with a recent copy), I've implemented a solution which downloads a compressed copy of the db the first time the application is started and extracts it. Since the extraction process might be slow I've added a ProgressMonitorInputStream to show to progress of the extraction process - unfortunately when the extraction starts, the progress dialog shows up but it's not updated at all. It seems like to events are getting through to the event dispatch thread. I haven't implemented this as an SwingWorker since I need to wait for the extraction anyways before I can proceed with the initialization of the program. I don't won't a solution based on SwingWorker + property changed listeners - I think that the ProgressMonitorInputStream is exactly what I need, but I guess I'm not doing something right. I'm using Sun JDK 1.6.18. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Sharing Jinja2 templates between Pylons and Django applications

    I'm writing a couple of Jinja2 templates that basically implement some common grid layouts. I'd like to be able to share this 'library' of templates between a Pylons app and Django app. I've hit a minor stumbling block in that Django's template context is accessible from the "top-level" of the template, whereas Pylons wraps your context inside the thread local c (or tmpl_context) variable. Here are some analogous examples that demonstrate this. Django from django.shortcuts import render_to_response ctx = {} ctx['name'] = 'John' return render_to_response('hello.html', ctx) hello.html: Hello {{ name }} Pylons from pylons import tmpl_context as c from myapp.lib.base import render c.name = 'John' return render('hello.html') hello.html: Hello {{ c.name }} What I'm trying to do is make it so that hello.html is the same across both frameworks.     I have written an application and added 2 contacts on emulator, but i am not able to update their names on android 2.1, code is working on android 1.6 platform with the following code. ContentValues contactValues = new ContentValues(); contactValues.put(Contacts.People.NAME, firstName+" "+lastName); getContentResolver().update(UpdateContactUri, contactValues, null, null); In android 1.6 i am getting Uri for those two contacts are "content:// contacts/people/1" and "content://contacts/people/2". but in 2.1 I am getting these values are "content://contacts/people/8" and "content://contacts/people/9" and while updating its giving "java.IllegalArgumentException, Empty values" exception. When i tried to put a static Uri like "content://contacts/people/1", code was debugged sucessfully but contact was not updated. How can i resolve it, why i am not getting uri like 1.6 platform ?
