• java: how to get a string representation of a compressed byte array ?

  I want to put some compressed data into a remote repository. To put data on this repository I can only use a method that take the name of the resource and its content as a String. (like data.txt + "hello world"). The repository is moking a filesystem but is not, so I can not use File directly. I want to be able to do the following: client send to server a file 'data.txt' server compress 'data.txt' into a compressed file 'data.zip' server send a string representation of data.zip to the repository repository store data.zip client download from repository data.zip and his able to open it with its favorite zip tool The problem arise at step 3 when I try to get a string representation of my compressed file. Here is a sample class, using the zip*stream and that emulate the repository showcasing my problem. The created zip file is working, but after its 'serialization' it's get corrupted. • jQuery - Add click event to Div and go to first link found

  Hi guys, I think I've been too much time looking at this function and just got stuck trying to figure out the nice clean way to do it. It's a jQuery function that adds a click event to any div with a click CSS class found in the page and when clicked it redirects the user to the first link found in the div. function clickabledivs() { $('.click').each( function (intIndex) { $(this).bind("click", function(){ window.location = $( "#"+$(this).attr('id')+" a:first-child" ).attr('href'); }); } ); } The code simply works although I'm pretty sure there is a fairly better way to accomplish it, specially the selector I am using: $( "#"+$(this).attr('id')+" a:first-child" ) looks too long and slow. • How to reschedule Alarm Manager on Preference Change

  Hi, I have an Android Service. When a phone boots up, a broadcast receiver receives a notification and it schedules the service to run repeatedly at a gap of X minutes. Henceforth After every X minutes another broadcast receiver gets those notifications and kicks the service off, which does it's job and quits. So far so good. Now I want those X minutes to be configurable. I have a perf.xml similar to what is given at the link below. This XML captures all my preferences along with that of service timer. http://android-journey.blogspot.com/2010/01/for-almost-any-application-we-need-to.html Now when user changes preferences; how can I reschedule the alarm? Is there a way I can set a listener on preferences change? I have used only XML files to speficy preferences screen. Any ideas will be welcome. Cheers

  I would like a webpage that constantly updates a graph with new data as it arrives. Regularly, all the data you have is passed to the page at the beginning of the request. However, I need the page to be able to update itself with fresh information every few seconds to redraw the graph. Background The webpage will be similar to this http://www.panic.com/blog/2010/03/the-panic-status-board/. The data coming in will temperature values to be graphed measured by an Arduino and saved to the Django database (this part is already complete). Update It sounds as though the solution is to use the jQuery.ajax() function ( http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.ajax/) with a function as the .complete callback that will schedule another request several seconds later to a URL that will return the data in JSON format. How can that method be scheduled? With the .delay() function?

• What happens when Npgsql connection pool reaches Max

  Both the name of the connection string parameter and this blog post - http://fxjr.blogspot.co.uk/2010/04/npgsql-connection-pool-explained.html - lead me to believe that Npgsql wont exceed the MaxPoolSize value set in the connection string. However the docs (http://npgsql.projects.postgresql.org/docs/manual/UserManual.html) say "Max size of connection pool. Pooled connections will be disposed of when returned to the pool if the pool contains more than this number of connections. Default: 20" This suggests that the pool can actually grow larger than MaxPoolSize and it is in fact just a level at which Npgsql starts to aggressively remove connections from the pool as soon as they are returned. I've been searching to try and find an answer but I can find out exactly what happens when you reach MaxPoolSize. Anyone else know? edit: I should add we are using Npgsql 2.0.6.0 due to another dependency being supported only up to that version.

• Getting a NullPointerException at seemingly random intervals, not sure why

  I'm running an example from a Kinect library for Processing (http://www.shiffman.net/2010/11/14/kinect-and-processing/) and sometimes get a NullPointerException pointing to this line: int rawDepth = depth[offset]; The depth array is created in this line: int[] depth = kinect.getRawDepth(); I'm not exactly sure what a NullPointerException is, and much googling hasn't really helped. It seems odd to me that the code compiles 70% of the time and returns the error unpredictably. Could the hardware itself be affecting it?   I'm following along with Yehuda's example on how to build a custom renderer for Rails 3, according to this post: http://www.engineyard.com/blog/2010/render-options-in-rails-3/ I've got my code working, but I'm having a hard time figuring out where this code should live. Right now, I've got my code stuck right inside of my controller file. Doing this, everything works. When I move the code to the lib folder, though, I have explicitly 'require' my file in the controller that needs the renderer or it won't work. Yes, the file gets loaded when it sits in the lib folder, automatically. but the code to add the renderer isn't working for some reason, until I do a require on it. where should I put my code to add the renderer and mime type, so that rails 3 will pick it up and register it for me, without me having to manually require the file in my controller?

• Real-time data on webpage with Django and jQuery

  I would like a webpage that constantly updates a graph with new data as it arrives. Regularly, all the data you have is passed to a Django view at the beginning of the request. However, I need the page to be able to update itself with fresh information every few seconds to redraw the graph. Background The webpage will be similar to this http://www.panic.com/blog/2010/03/the-panic-status-board/. The data coming in will temperature values to be graphed measured by an Arduino and saved to the Django database (I've already done this part).

  I have a service being hosted in IIS on XP via fileless activation. The service starts fine when there is no SSL port enabled for IIS but when the SSL port is enabled, I get the error message: System.ServiceModel.ServiceActivationException: The service '/SkillsPrototype.Web/services/Linkage.svc' cannot be activated due to an exception during compilation. The exception message is: A binding instance has already been associated to listen URI 'http://rcollet.hsb-corp.hsb.com/SkillsPrototype.Web/Services/Linkage.svc'. If two endpoints want to share the same ListenUri, they must also share the same binding object instance.
