    I'm running some Fortran software (LBLRTM) and a shell-script that prepares input generates a number of files with names TAPE3, TAPE4, etc. For debugging purposes, I used file to identify the file type. file tells me: TAPE3: 8086 relocatable (Microsoft) My guess is that file is wrong here, and that it's just a binary file that happens to look like a 8086 relocatable. But what is a 8086 relocatable?

  • Is it possible to map a network path to any cloud storage hosts?

    I use Microsoft SkyDrive and Google Drive. I was wondering if it was possible to map to a folder on a cloud service via FTP or something similar? I don't see any obvious ways on Google, or SkyDrive web sites. I know they each have their custom applications to access the cloud storage files. But my network admins block traffic on those applications. So I was looking for another way to access the files (not through the web site either).

    On windows server 2003 when one user connects to the server via RDP the default printer of the server for her profile does not change to the redirected printer of the session. This only happens with the one user all the other users default printers defaults to their session printer automatically.   • Symbol LL500 Scanner Interface Not Detected

    I have an old Symbol LL500 scanner interface box and a scanner to go with it. The box's original cable used one of the old microsoft mouse connectors, but I got a converter to USB. The problem is that when I connect it to my MacBook, the interface powers up and works, but the computer dosen't recognize it or even say that a device is connected. Is there any way to make it see that the interface is there or am I just screwed?

    I have two Windows Server 2003 and both have DFS and it does replication between them. I would like to migrate the primary win2k3 DFS server to win2k8. what is the best way to do that?     Is there a way to configure Internet Explorer's "Open links from other programs in:" option per program? I'm looking for a way to allow different programs to act differently when clicking hyperlinks. For example, if I click a hyperlink in Microsoft Outlook I'd prefer it to open a new tab in the current window (option 2) but if I click a link out of an instant messenger program I'd prefer it to open in the current tab or window (option 3). Version wise I'm looking for a way to do it with IE 8+.

E.g. what settings exist for the Taskbar, Start Menu, Explorer, etc. I've found some 'tweak' sites but they usually only offer information for a few features and even that is mostly hidden in reg files and poorly documented.

    Hi there We have a 1TB storage server I've just gone to transfer a 100Gb file across to it. And it has deleted the shadow copy. This behavior can be disabled by creating the key ignoreShiftOverride with DWORD setting of 1 in the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\ Winlogon. I'd like to be able to configure this setting for each individual user. How can this be done?

    Context: Windows 7 Wired mouse and keyboard The Windows 7 Photos screensaver intermittently fails to kick in after 2 minutes. The computer knows that the time has passed because it will make my monitors display solid black screens. I already tried installing the latest mouse drivers from Microsoft and the problem persists. I also can't find any rhyme or reason to when the problem will happen. The problem happens even when Windows Media Player isn't running.

    I'm trying to change the default install path in Windows 7 Pro x64. I'm in the Registry Editor and in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion key. I know I need to change ProgramFilesDir and ProgramFilesDir (x86). What I'm not sure about is the CommonFilesDir, CommonFilesDir (x86) and the ProgramW6432Dir. Do I need to or should I change these values to reflect the new program files directory I'm using? I tried Googling ProgramW6432Dir and didn't get much help.

    We have 2 different locations, and at both site we have multiple domain controllers (Win2008). In our application we use Serverless Binding to execute our LDAP queries http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms677945(v=vs.85).aspx. If we look at de DnsHostName of the LDAP://RootDse on site B we always get the default domain controller of site A. Therefor all LDAP queries go much slower. Is there a way to change the default domain controller per site ?

  • Buttons vanishing from Visual Basic Toolbar

    I'm using Microsoft Visual Basic 6 and am having trouble with the toolbar. Several buttons have recently vanished from the toolbar, and replacing them with the View-Toolbar option only worked temporarily. Now, however, the Toolbar button has disappeared off the View menu, and the Customize button has likewise vanished from the Tools menu. Does anyone know what the problem is, or where I can find out how to correct this?

  • Mesh Remote Desktop crashes 64 bit Windows 7 VM (8 GB)

    I have a Windows 7 VirtualBox VM (64 bit, 8 GB) on a Snow Leopard host (64 bit, 24 GB). It works fine until I connect via Microsoft Mesh. When I connect via Mesh remote desktop, the VM crashes about one or two minutes after the connection has been established. It doesn't answer to pings (from the host and from other machines in the network) and no RDC connections (from other Windows machines in the network where Mesh works) are possible. Any ideas?

    I am having trouble getting JBoss started. I am running JBoss 5.1.0 on Mac OSX (yes, I know it is an old version, but that’s what the application is certified on for now). I am using Apple’s JVM 1.6.0_37. I also installed a network monitoring tool on my box and it doesn't look like any ports are being opened when I start jboss, but it is possible, that the tool might be missing a port that is opened and then closed quickly. Any ideas what could be the problem or how to fix it?

  • Can't connect my school laptop to my homegroup

    Well I've been trying quite a lot of things, it worked to connect through my other laptop which is not given by my school so there's nothing wrong with the homegroup itself. But I need a way to connect this "domain owned laptop" into my homegroup. It has IPv6 working, all the services are started and I've also deleted idstore.sst without success.
