  • Back up and restore Active Directory password per user

    For administrative purposes, I sometimes need to log in as another user to diagnose a problem with their account. I'd like to be able to do this without having to change their password so I don't have to keep bothering them. Under Unix, I can just save the encrypted password from the passwd file, change the password, then edit the old encrypted password back into the passwd file. Is there a way of doing something similar in AD?

  • How to map to Windows Server shares in Linux (Ubuntu) easily?

    I know how to get connected to a Windows share easy enough, and I've read how to change the fstab file to get it to mount at boot. The real question here is...can I create a few shortcuts on a common user desktop so that regardless of who logs into Ubuntu machine they can open that shortcut and it will open the Windows share? I would also need to allow AD credentials during login, so a link to that will help as well, but I'm sure I can search google for that part.

    I'm running fsck_hfs on a very large volume. Unfortunately, there's an issue it appears to be unable to fix -- it reports it, loops back to start with Rechecking..., and reports it again, ad infinitum. ** Checking catalog hierarchy. Invalid volume directory count (It should be 513997 instead of 513998) Incorrect folder count in a directory (id = 27444570) (It should be 1 instead of 0) I've tried adding the -r ("rebuild catalog btree") flag to fsck, but the issue still recurs.

  • superfish dropdowns to be columned when there's many children and no "grandchildren" nodes

  • Explorer freeze opening some local folder

    Hi all, Often (not always) when I open some folder (most of the times "Downloads" folder) Explorer freeze. The only thing I'm able to do is open the task manager ad kill the application that suddenly restart.   • Removing unused profiles from Windows network connections

    Can't figure this one out. When you connect to a wireless network (like an ad-hoc), it'll create a networkname 1 connection. After something changes, it makes a networkname 2 connection. And this goes on and on. Now I'm at connection ~23, at the home connection I'm at ~2 and ~5. Is there a way to clean these out? Couldn't find where Win stores such profiles.

I have about 2000 workstations which require dozens of different timeout values, lock/not locked on resume settings, different screen saver files (that can be frequently updated depending on department), etc. It's looking to be quite an undertaking accomplishing this with domain group policies so I'm hoping you guys have some suggestions of products to use.     Environment - MS Server 2003 AD Domain, XP computers at Branch office connected by VPN back to main office. T IP Traffic to the internet and internally is relatively stable, but the in-house application has been buggy, and dropping connections. Users report "slowness" DNS Name resolution might be the culprit or a symptom, I cannot ping workstations at the main office by name, but can ping their IP Address... Any ideas?
