  • 4.00gb (3.25gb usable) in Windows 7 x64

    Hi, I have setup Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my PC. I have 4gb RAM and my BIOS states the correct amount (4096mb), but I cannot Windows (System Manager) says I have 4.00gb (3.25gb usable). This seems to be a popular issue, and I have looked for an integrated video card (integrated with my chipset) to disable but haven't found anything. What else can be preventing me from seeing all 4gb? When I had Vista 32bit, it would say 3.25gb RAM not 4.00gb (3.25gb usable). I have an x64 CPU and when I brought my RAM, I used a compatibility tool from Crucial (the memory vendor) to test how much memory my PC can support and 4gb was the answer (this was a windows app I think). Chipset is Intel(R) G33/G31/P35/P31 Express Chipset PCI Express In the bios, I looked for an onboard video card (integrated) and there was no such thing, but a couple of other onboard devices. There are also no "Resource Mappings" settings. FURHTER DETAILS: Chipset North Bridge: Intel Bearlake G33 South Bridge: Intel 82801IR ICH9R Maximum Memory Amount 8 GB Graphics Controller Type Intel GMA 3100 (Enabled) I guess the first thing is, how do I disable the graphics controller? EDIT: This thread (http://forums.legitreviews.com/about23417.html) indicates the issue is with memory mapped devices, but someone on this thread says that does not apply to x64. The rest of the comments points to a mobo issue for the guy who started that thread. Thanks

  • Can't connect to Sql Server 2008 named instance

    I just installed Sql 2008 Express on a new server running Windows Server 2008. I know Sql is working properly, because I can connect to the db fine locally, on the server. I cannot connect to it from a client machine though, neither by IP address nor by machine name (iporname\instance). I know I have the correct IP address, because I am RDCing into the server to perform all this configuration and setup, and if I ping the server name, it is resolving to the correct IP address as well. On the server, I have set up an inbound firewall exception allowing all traffic on any port on any protocol to sqlservr.exe. In SSMS, in server > Properties > Connections Allow remote connections to this server is enabled. In Sql Server Configuration Manager, TCP/IP is enabled in both the Protocols for <instance> and the Client Protocols sections. I looked in the Windows logs, but don't see anything about connections being denied or dropped. As far as I can see, I have everything set right, but cannot connect from a client machine. The client CAN connect to other Sql 2008 Express servers okay, so I know the client configuration is correct. Any ideas where else I can look for info of what/where/how this connection is dropping, greatly apprecaited! The error being returned by the client is: **TITLE: Connect to Server** Cannot connect to [MY.IP.ADD.RSS]\[MYINSTNAME]. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible.     I'm using Windows 7 Beta and trying to install a web application locally. This web site uses Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express (SQLEXPRESS) and a MDB file in the web site's ~/App_Data folder. I was instructed to configure IIS7 to use Classic .NET AppPool for this web application. Each time the web site loads, I receive the following error: There was an error trying to connect to the Database Server: Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed. The Internet is packed with articles written on this subject. The prevailing wisdom seems to be: Configure the SQL Express Service to use the Local System account. Delete the following directory: C:\Users\username\AppData\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS Neither of these fixes have made any impact. I have tinkered with permissions and settings for hours to no avail. Can anyone suggest a fix or help me understand how to get more detailed information about the problem.

    Having some trouble with my NICs. The server starts fine and I can wget/ping etc. However, when I /etc/init.d/networking restart I then receive the following error: Bringing up interface eth0: bnx2: fw sync timeout, reset code = 1030009 SIOCSIFFLAGS: Device or resource busy Consequently, the task fails. I have searched around on google users suggesting to disable PNP in the BIOS but I see no option.   • Windows 8, IIS8 how to make PHP imagick work

    I'm new to IIS server before IIS for 6 years I used Apache 2.X and with Apache imageMagick and its PHP module imagick worked just fine even with x64 version of PHP and Apache 2.4 and imageMagick. I tried to make imagick to work with IIS8 but it wont work. I always get the typical PHP startup warning in my log PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'C:\Program Files (x86)\iis express\PHP\v5.4\ext\php_imagick.dll' - %1 is not a valid Win32 application. in Unknown on line 0 And the next thing why is IIS loading php from IIS express folder if I have php in the program files? But actually I dont care until it works :) So what I did so far I unistalled imageMagick 6.7.X 64bit version and installed the latest x86 version, tested it in command line and it worked, than I looked up on net the latest imagick DLL which was I think the 3.1.0RC2 (founded here http://www.peewit.fr/imagick/) than I copied the dll to PHP's ext folder than edited php.ini and added the imagick to the dynamic extensions after that I restarted IIS and than nothing :( I got the error which I wrote earlier. Today I installed PEAR package Installer because I read somewhere that someone made it work with it but he also mentioned, that he needed to comply wincache too. Isn't there any easier solutions to make it work? Could someone maybe write me a step by step guide how to make this work.

Here, the spammer specified "blizzard.com". And he sent his email through Hotmail using Outlook Express. I just don't understand how this gets past the spam filter? There's this SPF thing that seems to exist... but it doesn't seem to be used by blizzard? I'm on Windows, and if I use nslookup to look for the TXT records of blizzard.com and worldofwarcraft.com, I don't see a thing.... so blizzard is not using SPF? Why would that be?

  • Cannot open files in Visual Studio but in Delphi and Notepad

    About an hour ago Visual Studio 2008 decided that it cannot find files any more. This is on 64 bit Windows Vista. When I right-click on a text file (source code or otherwise) and select "open with" and "Visual Studio 2008", I get the following error (example): Windows cannot find 'C:\Users\ajbrehm\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\Hello Prism\Hello Prism\Main.pas'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. When I right-click the same file and select "open with" and "Delphi 2010" or "Notepad" (both other options available for text files on my system), the file opens correctly. Oddly enough when the file is part of a Visual Studio project and I open the project itself with Visual Studio (this works), I can open the file from within Visual Studio. Any ideas what might be going on? This started about an hour after I made a complete backup of my Vista VM and after I installed IIS 7, SQL Express, and Sourcegear Vault. The first files I noticed couldn't be opened in Visual Studio any more where Pascal source files in checked-outed folders from Vault. And Vault also seems to be unable to see one of the sources files and claims they don't exist. I found out about Visual Studio not opening ANY files any more when I tried to recreate the file Vault refused to see. Update: I just checked. Another user, "administrator", can still open text files with Visual Studio 2008. Both users have administrator rights. Update: I just restored the hours-old backup. Same problem. Apparently whatever triggered this happened before the install of IIS 7 and SQL Express. Never noticed it before.

  • Node js server not responding outside localhost centos

    I'm running a basic express server from CentOS but for some reason it is not responding outside of localhost, I have tried everything I have found on google but nothing works so far. This is my express server: app.listen(3000,"0.0.0.0"); If I do curl http://localhost:3000/ in the server it works fine. If I curl to the ip of the server it doesn't work. I already changed my iptables num target prot opt source destination 1 ACCEPT tcp -- 0.0.0.0/0 0.0.0.0/0 tcp dpt:80 2 ACCEPT tcp -- 0.0.0.0/0 0.0.0.0/0 tcp dpt:80 3 ACCEPT tcp -- 0.0.0.0/0 0.0.0.0/0 tcp dpt:3000 There is currently a apache server running on port 80 with no problems. I also tried setting a VirtualHost on apache but it didn't work either: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName SubDOmain.MyDomain.com ProxyRequests off <Proxy *> Order allow,deny Allow from all </Proxy> ProxyPass / http://localhost:3000/ ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:3000/ ProxyPreserveHost on </VirtualHost> There is another virtual host working fine that redirects to another DocumentRoot. I'm running Node on root for testing purpose, but the node application owner is another user. All folders have 705 and files 664 Edit: I stopped apache and run my node app on port 80 and it working fine, I could access node app from my ip and domain.

  • GUI interfaces to ATI card behave weirdly out of the box and after updates.

    My Lenovo W500 came with an ATI Mobility FireGL V5700 and both the Catalyst control center software and Vista display manager display four monitors. What's really annoying is the behaviour. My two active displays (laptop display + my external monitor) are always #s 3 and 4 respectively which doesn't make sense. This is out of the box. Additionally dragging & dropping is jumpy and displays #1 and 2 (always inactive because they don't exist to the software) are often preventing me from dragging #3 and 4 to the rightmost side. They also auto-snap to weird positions and certain sensible positions like position one directly over top of the other are not possible. The exact same annoyances are present when using the Windows Display manager too. In other words the interface is crap and I'm looking for a fix that's not wishing I had gone with nVidia instead. I've updated drivers, and Catalyst control centre. Have latest Windows and AMD/ATI updates. Any thoughts?     I've just started trying out Amazon's EC2 service for running an asp.net web app which uses a SQL Server 2005 Express database. I have some questions about how to configure and operate it best for reliability, and I'm hoping to tap into some collective wisdom here as this is my first foray into EC2. Here's how I have it configured currently: OS: Windows 2003 SQL Server Express 2005 Web content stored on an EBS Volume (E Drive) Database Data stored on an EBS Volume (E Drive) Database backups to "C Drive" and then copied off to S3. Elastic IP Address attached to the production instance. Now when I make a change to the OS configuration, I make a new AMI using the bundle feature. Unfortunately, I found that this results in significant downtime. While the bundle is created and the new instance is started. It seems that when I'm ready to make a new AMI, I should: Start up a new temporary instance. Detach the EBS volume from the production instance. Detach the IP Address from the production instance. Attach the IP Address to the temporary instance. Attach the EBS volume to the temporary instance. Create an AMI from the production instance. After the production instance restarts, reverse the attach/detach steps to put it back in production. Is this the right order of events to prevent any chance to corrupt the EBS volume? Will the EBS volume become corrupt if I detach it while a database Write is taking place? Should I snapshot the EBS volume of the production instance and attach it to the temporary instance instead? Or could taking a snapshot of the EBS volume while it's in use cause corruption? Any suggestions to improve the reliability and operations?

  • What is the correct authentication mechanism when there are users inside and outside the domain?

    We have a Windows 7 enterprise desktop data entry app for mobile (laptop) users with local SQL Express 2008 R2 Express db that syncs data with an SQL Server 2008 R2 Server db. Authentication is required before syncing the data. The existing group of users are part of the organisation's domain so normal scenario and they connect to the Sql Server directly. But there are plans for a second group of app users who belong to various partner organisations so they are outside our domain and have their own various separate domains/accounts. The aim is to deploy the desktop app to them and they will periodically sync data to our SQL Server. What I am uncertain of: Is it possible to authenticate users from another domain? Can permissions be managed via Active Directory etc? Which authentication protocol should be used in this scenario? Windows, Forms, SQL, etc? The IT people are requesting users of the system be managed via Active Directory. Is it possible to manage the external domain users access via Active Directory?

  • How do I permanently delete /var/log/lastlog?

    My /var/log/lastlog file is huge. I know it's really only a few kilobytes, but tar isn't smart enough to know that, so when I image a virtual machine, my restore fails because it thinks I'm trying to load more data than I have capacity on my disk. I want to delete /var/log/lastlog and stop any and all logging to the file. I'm aware of the security implications. This logging needs to stop to preserve my backup strategy. I've made a change to /etc/pam.d/login which I was told would disable logging to /var/log/lastlog, but it does not appear to work as /var/log/lastlog keeps growing. # Prints the last login info upon succesful login # (Replaces the `LASTLOG_ENAB' option from login.defs) #session optional pam_lastlog.so Any ideas? EDIT For anyone interested, I use Centrify Express to authenticate my users via LDAP. Centrify Express is "free", but one of the drawbacks is that I can't manage user UIDs via LDAP, so they are given a dynamic UID when they login to a server. Centrify picks some crazy high UID values (so they don't conflict with local users on the server, presumably). /var/log/lastlog is indexed by UID, and grows to accommodate the largest UID on the system.     I've got a Debian + Xen server. After a system upgrade to the stable version the network doesn't come up after boot. Every time after reboot I need to bring it up manually. The network configuration was not changed during upgrade.   • computer freezes but music continues

    Recently I have had a problem where my computer will freeze completely but if I happen to be streaming Pandora in a tab that will continue playing. If I wait about 2-5 minutes it will eventually come back and start working normally. I also noticed that during the period that it is unresponsive that the HDD activity light stays lit the whole time, not flashing. I've ran memtest86+ and a diagnostic from Western Digital for my HDD model and none of them reported any errors.   • Recovering corrupted VB.NET Form file?

    Good day. This question is directly related to this one I made here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4911099/there-is-no-editor-available-for-form1-vb-error There, I was working on my VB.NET 2010 Express application, I saved, then a blackout came and now, apparently, I can't view the designer nor code of my Form file (Form1.vb). On StackOverflow, I was recommended to check for the From1.vb file, and try to open it on Notepad. If nothing appeared, it would mean that my file was corrupted. I open it on Notepad, and I get a blank file. It is 27kb, but it only has blank spaces. So I assume it is corrupted. I was told this place was better for dealing with corrupted files, about techniques to recover them. I use Windows7, VB.NET 2010 Express. I run Windows7 on Parallels Desktop, Mac OS X. However, I do not believe that is the problem, most likely it was that damned blackout... this is the first time that happens to me. VB.NET worked just fine for me all time (about a month and half).     I've look near and far but I cannot find a way (setting or hack) to prevent Windows 7 from grouping taskbar buttons together that are "related". I'm not talking about the option to combine or collapse related buttons into one item. I can find that setting at: Taskbar and Start Menu Properties Taskbar Taskbar buttons: This is what I an not looking for: How to Enable or Disable Windows 7 Taskbar Button Grouping I'm talking about how Windows 7 seams to think that it's doing me a favor by grouping all my Google Chrome buttons together and grouping all my Explorer buttons together etc. My workflow in Windows XP was to use the program Taskbar Shuffle to allow me to reorganize my taskbar buttons into related task "groups" I was working on.   • Moving Images from Database to File System

    So currently in our system we have been storing image files in the database (SQL Express 2005). Unfortunately it wasn't perceived that this would reach the max database size allowed by the SQL Express License. So I have proposed a plan of storing the images in the file system and only indexing where the file is in the database. The plan is to save the root path in our OptionsTable as something like ImagesRoot and then only saving the actual imageID in the table, which is basically a FK from the PK of the record with the image. I have determined that it would be best to then split this down into sub-directories inside of the ImagesRoot based on every 1000 images so basically (ImagedID / 1000)\(ImageID % 1000) (e.g. ImageID is 1999 it would be in %ImageRoot%\1\999). I'm looking for any potential pitfalls of this system and any thing that could be improved as I am already receiving some resistance from the owner of the company who wants everything to be in databases. Along those lines I would also take reasons why it should all be in databases. I should mention we have in place already automated backups that run for all of our customers databases and any files that are generated by our program that are required to be saved over a period of time These are optional but if someone isn't using our system it is expected that they are using their own or data loss isn't our problem (it is if our system fails and they are using it!).     I'm training code problems, and on this one I am having problems to solve it, can you give me some tips how to solve it please. The problem is something like this: Your task is to find the sequence of points on the map that the bomber is expected to travel such that it hits all vital links. A link from A to B is vital when its absence isolates completely A from B. In other words, the only way to go from A to B (or vice versa) is via that link. Notice that if we destroy for example link (d,e), it becomes impossible to go from d to e,m,l or n in any way. A vital link can be hit at any point that lies in its segment (e.g. a hit close to d is as valid as a hit close to e). Of course, only one hit is enough to neutralize a vital link. Moreover, each bomb affects an exact circle of radius R, i.e., every segment that intersects that circle is considered hit. Due to enemy counter-attack, the plane may have to retreat at any moment, so the plane should follow, at each moment, to the closest vital link possible, even if in the end the total distance grows larger. Given all coordinates (the initial position of the plane and the nodes in the map) and the range R, you have to determine the sequence of positions in which the plane has to drop bombs. This sequence should start (takeoff) and finish (landing) at the initial position. Except for the start and finish, all the other positions have to fall exactly in a segment of the map (i.e. it should correspond to a point in a non-hit vital link segment). The coordinate system used will be UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) northing and easting, which basically corresponds to a Euclidian perspective of the world (X=Easting; Y=Northing). Input Each input file will start with three floating point numbers indicating the X0 and Y0 coordinates of the airport and the range R. The second line contains an integer, N, indicating the number of nodes in the road network graph. Then, the next N (<10000) lines will each contain a pair of floating point numbers indicating the Xi and Yi coordinates (1 No two links will ever cross with each other. Output The program will print the sequence of coordinates (pairs of floating point numbers with exactly one decimal place), each one at a line, in the order that the plane should visit (starting and ending in the airport).   • How To: Using spatial data with Entity Framework and Connector/Net

    One of the new features introduced in Entity Framework 5.0 is the incorporation of some new types of data within an Entity Data Model: the spatial data types. These types allow us to perform operations on coordinates values in an easier way. There's no need to add stored routines or functions for every operation among these geometry types, now the user can have the alternative to put this logic on his application or keep it in the database. In the new 6.7.4 version there's also this new feature incorporated to Connector/Net library so our users can start exploring it and could provide us some feedback or comments about this new functionality. Through this tutorial on how to create a Code First Entity Model with a geometry column, we'll show an example on using Geometry types and some common operations when using geometry types inside an application. Requirements: - Connector/Net 6.7.4 - Entity Framework 5.0 version - .NET Framework 4.5 version - Basic understanding on Entity Framework and C# language. - An installed and running instance of MySQL Server 5.5.x or 5.6.10 version- Visual Studio 2012. Step One: Create a new Console Application  Inside Visual Studio select File->New Project menu option and select the Console Application template. Also make sure the .Net 4.5 version is selected so the new features for EF 5.0 will work with the application. Step Two: Add the Entity Framework Package For adding the Entity Framework Package there is more than one option: the package manager console or the Manage Nuget Packages option dialog. If you want to open the Package Manager Console, go to the Tools Menu -> Library Package Manager -> Package Manager Console. On the Package Manager Console Type:Install-Package EntityFrameworkThis will add the reference to the project of the latest released No alpha version of Entity Framework.
