  basically i'm trying to reproduce the following mssql query as LINQ SELECT DISTINCT [TABLENAME], [COLUMNNAME] FROM [DATATABLE] the closest i've got is Dim query = (From row As DataRow In ds.Tables("DATATABLE").Rows _ Select row("COLUMNNAME") ,row("TABLENAME").Distinct when i do the above i get the error Range variable name can be inferred only from a simple or qualified name with no arguments. i was sort of expecting it to return a collection that i could then iterate through and perform actions for each entry. maybe a datarow collection? As a complete LINQ newb, i'm not sure what i'm missing. i've tried variations on Select new with { row("COLUMNNAME") ,row("TABLENAME")} and get: Anonymous type member name can be inferred only from a simple or qualified name with no arguments. Also, does anyone know of any good books/resources to get fluent?

  Hi all, I have a WCF Restful Web Service. It works find under VS and IIS 6.0. Now I want to move it to another work station with IIS 7.0 on it. I tried to copy all the deploy file from IIS 6 to IIS 7, but it cannot be accessed by other client, except for the request from it's own machine. I don't know what's wrong and I tried to enable the anonymous access. Please help me. Thanks.

  Hello, first time here... great site Well, I want to reference a web service, and it requires user/pass authentication. In VS 2008, if I try to "add reference", or "add service reference", all I can type is the URL, there's no way to input my credentials. Obviously, if I try to load the ws, it shows me a nice message: "The request failed with HTTP status 403: Forbidden. Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Anonymous'. The authentication header received from the server was 'Basic realm="weblogic"'. The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized." So my question is: Is it possible (using VS 2008) to add a reference to a web service that is protected? How? Any help is kindly appreciated. Thanks!

  I'm trying to pass a ViewData object from a master page to a view user control using the ViewDataDictionary. The problem is the ViewDataDictionary is not returning any values in the view user control whichever way i try it. The sample code below is using an anonymous object just for demonstration although neither this method or passing a ViewData object works.   All, Getting to grips with ASP.NET MVC. So far, so good, but this one is a little nuts. I have a view model that contains a dictionary of attributes for a hyperlink, used like this: menu = model variable Html.ActionLink(Html.Encode(menu.Name), Html.Encode(menu.Action), Html.Encode(menu.Controller), menu.Attributes, null) The problem is the position of "menu.Attributes" expects an object in the form: new { Name = "Fred", Age=24 } From what I can tell, this anonymous object is actually converted to a dictionary via reflection anyway BUT you can't pass a dictionary to it in the first place!!! The Html generated for the link simply shows the dictionary type. How on earth do I get round this? The whole point is that its general and the controller can have set the menu.Attributes previously....

  I have an application which exposes lots of interfaces via net.tcp protocol, using both SecurityMode.Transport and SecurityMode.None (I really need support for both). My whole application is written in a DLL file. I have a form which consumes this DLL and now I made a Windows Service to consume this DLL. The problem is, when this windows service goes up, the insecure service throws this exception: Stream Security is required at http://www.w3.org/2005/08/addressing/anonymous, but no security context was negotiated. This is likely caused by the remote endpoint missing a StreamSecurityBindingElement from its binding. In the client side, nothing has changed. Is there any reason for this behaviour? The program is exactly the same. When I run the same test with the form app, it works... ps: I've already tried running the windows service as: SYSTEM, NETWORK SERVICE and my user account (which runs the form app) Thanks

  I am trying to access my MOSS site through the browser on the web server itself. I am using the same URL that is used for external access to the site. When I hit it from outside the server, I can see most of the site, which has anonymous access, and can use a domain account to get into secure areas. When I hit it from within the server, I get prompted for a password, but no matter what I enter it seems to reject it and just presents another password dialog. Has anyone seen anything like this?

  Say I have a page that display search results. I search for stackoverflow and it returns 5000 results, 10 per page. Essentially I care about what the previous action parameters were, because I want to reuse, it sounds simple, but start adding sort and loads of advance search options and it starts getting messy. This works fine when the web service in hosted to allow anonymous connections, however the WebService I need to consume when we go live will be held within a website that has Integrated Authentication enabled. The person running the WPF application will be logged onto a computer within the same domain as the web server and will have permission to see the WebService (without entering any auth info) if browsing to it using a web browser that is NTLM auth enabled. Is it possible to pass through the details of the already logged in user running the application to the WebService?   I'm using the Uploadify jQuery control for client-side uploads. I think my IIS 7 configuration has issues with it. The uploadify POST immediately returns a HTTP 1.1 302 Found, back to my login page. I've tried to allow anonymous access to the uploading section(subfolder) plus the page(script) that processes the image in the web.config, using the location node(configuration ... location). Seems like the Uploadify post is immediately blocked. Again, this worked fine just using Visual Studio 2008, but when I run the site on the same machine I get the redirect. Your thoughts/ideas are very welcomed!

How does this differ from the System.Lazy<...> construct now available in .NET 4.0 (and perhaps earlier)?
