  • The pros and cons of use JSON for WCF service

    - by brz dot net
    What are the pros and cons of the following 2 cases: Case I: Traditional way: Add service reference in project. Create object and Get data from service on server side and bind to asp.net grid. Case II: Update Service for JSON behavior. Add service reference in project. Call service from javascript to get data. Bind data to jquery grid. Which one is the best approach and why?(Not developer point of view) If there is another approach which is more optimized, please explain it.

  • mysql_query( "CALL... multiple results

    - by bradenkeith
    I am tapping into a service that provides zip codes tax information - there service is a bit shakey, so I want to copy their database over and run the results off my own server while using their service to just update my table. However I'm not sure I'm able to loop through multiple results with this query: mysql_query( "CALL zip2tax.z2t_lookup('" . $strZipCode . "','" . $strUserName . "', '" . $strUserPassword . "')" ) I've tried setting $strZipCode to *. However I get an error from the database. I read on MySQL that mysql_next_result should be the solution, however I'm unsure how to properly implement that.

  • Uncompiled WCF on IIS7: The type could not be found

    - by Jimmy
    Hello, I've been trying to follow this tutorial for deploying a WCF sample to IIS . I can't get it to work. This is a hosted site, but I do have IIS Manager access to the server. However, in step 2 of the tutorial, I can't "create a new IIS application that is physically located in this application directory". I can't seem to find a menu item, context menu item, or what not to create a new application. I've been right-clicking everywhere like crazy and still can't figure out how to create a new app. I suppose that's probably the root issue, but I tried a few other things (described below) just in case that actually is not the issue. This is "deployed" at http://test.com.cws1.my-hosting-panel.com/IISHostedCalcService/Service.svc . The error says: The type 'Microsoft.ServiceModel.Samples.CalculatorService', provided as the Service attribute value in the ServiceHost directive, or provided in the configuration element system.serviceModel/serviceHostingEnvironment/serviceActivations could not be found. I also tried to create a virtual dir (IISHostedCalc) in dotnetpanel that points to IISHostedCalcService . When I navigate to http://test.com.cws1.my-hosting-panel.com/IISHostedCalc/Service.svc , then there is a different error: This collection already contains an address with scheme http. There can be at most one address per scheme in this collection. As per the tutorial, there was no compiling involved; I just dropped the files on the server as follow inside the folder IISHostedCalcService: service.svc Web.config Service.cs service.svc contains: <%@ServiceHost language=c# Debug="true" Service="Microsoft.ServiceModel.Samples.CalculatorService"%> (I tried with quotes around the c# attribute, as this looks a little strange without quotes, but it made no difference) Web.config contains: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <services> <service name="Microsoft.ServiceModel.Samples.CalculatorService"> <!-- This endpoint is exposed at the base address provided by host: http://localhost/servicemodelsamples/service.svc --> <endpoint address="" binding="wsHttpBinding" contract="Microsoft.ServiceModel.Samples.ICalculator" /> <!-- The mex endpoint is explosed at http://localhost/servicemodelsamples/service.svc/mex --> <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexHttpBinding" contract="IMetadataExchange" /> </service> </services> </system.serviceModel> <system.web> <customErrors mode="Off"/> </system.web> </configuration> Service.cs contains: using System; using System.ServiceModel; namespace Microsoft.ServiceModel.Samples { [ServiceContract] public interface ICalculator { [OperationContract] double Add(double n1, double n2); [OperationContract] double Subtract(double n1, double n2); [OperationContract] double Multiply(double n1, double n2); [OperationContract] double Divide(double n1, double n2); } public class CalculatorService : ICalculator { public double Add(double n1, double n2) { return n1 + n2; } public double Subtract(double n1, double n2) { return n1 - n2; } public double Multiply(double n1, double n2) { return n1 * n2; } public double Divide(double n1, double n2) { return n1 / n2; } } }

  • C# WCF - Failed to invoke the service.

    - by Keith Barrows
    I am getting the following error when trying to use the WCF Test Client to hit my new web service. What is weird is every once in awhile it will execute once then start popping this error. Failed to invoke the service. Possible causes: The service is offline or inaccessible; the client-side configuration does not match the proxy; the existing proxy is invalid. Refer to the stack trace for more detail. You can try to recover by starting a new proxy, restoring to default configuration, or refreshing the service. My code (interface): [ServiceContract(Namespace = "http://rivworks.com/Services/2010/04/19")] public interface ISync { [OperationContract] bool Execute(long ClientID); } My code (class): public class Sync : ISync { #region ISync Members bool ISync.Execute(long ClientID) { return model.Product(ClientID); } #endregion } My config (EDIT - posted entire serviceModel section): <system.serviceModel> <diagnostics performanceCounters="Default"> <messageLogging logMalformedMessages="true" logMessagesAtServiceLevel="true" logMessagesAtTransportLevel="true" /> </diagnostics> <serviceHostingEnvironment aspNetCompatibilityEnabled="false" /> <behaviors> <endpointBehaviors> <behavior name="JsonpServiceBehavior"> <webHttp /> </behavior> </endpointBehaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="SimpleServiceBehavior"> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="True" policyVersion="Policy15"/> </behavior> <behavior name="RivWorks.Web.Service.ServiceBehavior"> <!-- To avoid disclosing metadata information, set the value below to false and remove the metadata endpoint above before deployment --> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true"/> <!-- To receive exception details in faults for debugging purposes, set the value below to true. How can I increase the time out for the service? TIA!

  • How to expose service contract interfaces with multiple inheritance in WCF service on single endpoin

    - by Vaibhav Gawali
    I have only simple data types in method signature of service (such as int, string). My service class implements single ServiceContract interface say IMathService, and this interface in turn inherits from some other base interface say IAdderService. I want to expose the MathService using interface contract IAdderService as a service on a single endpoint. However some of the clinet's which know about IMathService should be able to access the extra services provided by IMathService on that single endpoint i.e. by just typecasting IAdderService to IMathService. //Interfaces and classes at server side [ServiceContract] public interface IAdderService { [OperationContract] int Add(int num1, int num2); } [ServiceContract] public interface IMathService : IAdderService { [OperationContract] int Substract(int num1, int num2); } public class MathService : IMathService { #region IMathService Members public int Substract(int num1, int num2) { return num1 - num2; } #endregion #region IAdderService Members public int Add(int num1, int num2) { return num1 + num2; } #endregion } //Run WCF service as a singleton instace MathService mathService = new MathService(); ServiceHost host = new ServiceHost(mathService); host.Open(); Server side Configuration: <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <services> <service name="IAdderService" behaviorConfiguration="AdderServiceServiceBehavior"> <endpoint address="net.pipe://localhost/AdderService" binding="netNamedPipeBinding" bindingConfiguration="Binding1" contract="TestApp.IAdderService" /> <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexNamedPipeBinding" contract="IMetadataExchange" /> <host> <baseAddresses> <add baseAddress="net.pipe://localhost/AdderService"/> </baseAddresses> </host> </service> </services> <bindings> <netNamedPipeBinding> <binding name="Binding1" > <security mode = "None"> </security> </binding > </netNamedPipeBinding> </bindings> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="AdderServiceServiceBehavior"> <serviceMetadata /> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="True" /> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> </system.serviceModel> </configuration> Client Side imeplementation: IAdderService adderService = new ChannelFactory<IAdderService>("AdderService").CreateChannel(); int result = adderService.Add(10, 11); IMathService mathService = adderService as IMathService; result = mathService.Substract(100, 9); Client side configuration: <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <client> <endpoint name="AdderService" address="net.pipe://localhost/AdderService" binding="netNamedPipeBinding" bindingConfiguration="Binding1" contract="TestApp.IAdderService" /> </client> <bindings> <netNamedPipeBinding> <binding name="Binding1" maxBufferSize="65536" maxConnections="10"> <security mode = "None"> </security> </binding > </netNamedPipeBinding> </bindings> </system.serviceModel> </configuration> Using above code and configuration I am not able to typecast IAdderService instnace to IMathService, it fails and I get null instance of IMathService at client side. My observation is if server exposes IMathService to client then client can safely typecast to IAdderService and vice versa is also possible. However if server exposes IAdderService then the typecast fails. Is there any solution to this? or am I doing it in a wrong way.

  • Deploying WCF Tutorial App on IIS7: "The type could not be found"

I've been right-clicking everywhere like crazy and still can't figure out how to create a new app. I suppose that's probably the root issue, but I tried a few other things (described below) just in case that actually is not the issue. Here is a picture of what I see in IIS Manager, in case my words don't do it justice: This is "deployed" at http://test.com.cws1.my-hosting-panel.com/IISHostedCalcService/Service.svc . The error says: The type 'Microsoft.ServiceModel.Samples.CalculatorService', provided as the Service attribute value in the ServiceHost directive, or provided in the configuration element system.serviceModel/serviceHostingEnvironment/serviceActivations could not be found. There can be at most one address per scheme in this collection. Interestingly enough, if I click on View Applications, it seems like the virtual directory is an application (see image below)... although, as per the error message above, it doesn't work. As per the tutorial, there was no compiling involved; I just dropped the files on the server as follow inside the folder IISHostedCalcService: service.svc Web.config <dir: App_Code> Service.cs service.svc contains: <%@ServiceHost language=c# Debug="true" Service="Microsoft.ServiceModel.Samples.CalculatorService"%> (I tried with quotes around the c# attribute, as this looks a little strange without quotes, but it made no difference) Web.config contains: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <services> <service name="Microsoft.ServiceModel.Samples.CalculatorService"> <!-- This endpoint is exposed at the base address provided by host: http://localhost/servicemodelsamples/service.svc --> <endpoint address="" binding="wsHttpBinding" contract="Microsoft.ServiceModel.Samples.ICalculator" /> <!-- The mex endpoint is explosed at http://localhost/servicemodelsamples/service.svc/mex --> <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexHttpBinding" contract="IMetadataExchange" /> </service> </services> </system.serviceModel> <system.web> <customErrors mode="Off"/> </system.web> </configuration> Service.cs contains: using System; using System.ServiceModel; namespace Microsoft.ServiceModel.Samples { [ServiceContract] public interface ICalculator { [OperationContract] double Add(double n1, double n2); [OperationContract] double Subtract(double n1, double n2); [OperationContract] double Multiply(double n1, double n2); [OperationContract] double Divide(double n1, double n2); } public class CalculatorService : ICalculator { public double Add(double n1, double n2) { return n1 + n2; } public double Subtract(double n1, double n2) { return n1 - n2; } public double Multiply(double n1, double n2) { return n1 * n2; } public double Divide(double n1, double n2) { return n1 / n2; } } }

  • WCF Contract Name 'IMyService' could not be found?

    - by M3NTA7
    The contract name 'IMyService' could not be found in the list of contracts implemented by the service 'MyService'.. --- System.InvalidOperationException: The contract name 'IMyService' could not be found in the list of contracts implemented by the service 'MyService'. This is driving me crazy. I have a WCF web service that works on my dev machine, but when I copy it to a Virtual Machine that I am using for testing, I get the error that seems to indicate that I am not implementing the interface, but it does not make sense because the service does work on my windows xp IIS. the Virtual machine uses Windows Server 2003 IIS. Any ideas? One thing to note here is that I get this error on my VM even while just trying to access the service in a web browser as the client. Note: I am using principalPermissionMode="UseWindowsGroups", but that is not a problem on my local machine. I just add myself to the appropriate windows group. But no luck on my VM. system.serviceModel: <diagnostics> <messageLogging logEntireMessage="false" maxSizeOfMessageToLog="2147483647" /> </diagnostics> <services> <service behaviorConfiguration="MyServiceBehaviors" name="MyService"> <endpoint binding="basicHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="basicHttpBinding" name="MyService" bindingName="basicHttpBinding" bindingNamespace="http://my.test.com" contract="IMyService"> </endpoint> </service> </services> <bindings> <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="basicHttpBinding" maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647"> <readerQuotas maxStringContentLength="2147483647" /> <security mode="TransportCredentialOnly"> <transport clientCredentialType="Windows" proxyCredentialType="None" /> </security> </binding> </basicHttpBinding> <netTcpBinding> <binding name="WindowsClientOverTcp" maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647"> <readerQuotas maxStringContentLength="2147483647" /> </binding> </netTcpBinding> <wsHttpBinding> <binding name="wsHttpBinding" maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="2147483647" maxArrayLength="16384" maxBytesPerRead="4096" maxNameTableCharCount="16384" /> </binding> </wsHttpBinding> </bindings> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="MyServiceBehaviors"> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true" /> <serviceAuthorization principalPermissionMode="UseWindowsGroups" impersonateCallerForAllOperations="false" /> <serviceCredentials /> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> Thanks, Glen

  • WCF and Firewall

    - by Jim Biddison
    I have written a very simple WCF service (hosted in IIS) and web application that talks to it. If they are both in the same domain, it works fine. But when I put them in different domains (on different sides of a firewall), then the web applications says: The request for security token could not be satisfied because authentication failed. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.ServiceModel.FaultException: The request for security token could not be satisfied because authentication failed. Source Error: An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below. The revelant part of the service web.config is: <system.serviceModel> <services> <service behaviorConfiguration="MigrationHelperBehavior" name="MigrationHelper"> <endpoint address="" binding="wsHttpBinding" contract="IMigrationHelper"> <identity> <dns value="localhost" /> </identity> </endpoint> <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexHttpBinding" contract="IMetadataExchange" /> <endpoint binding="httpBinding" contract="IMigrationHelper" /> </service> </services> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="MigrationHelperBehavior"> <!-- To avoid disclosing metadata information, set the value below to false and remove the metadata endpoint above before deployment --> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true"/> <!-- To receive exception details in faults for debugging purposes, set the value below to true. Set to false before deployment to avoid disclosing exception information --> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="false"/> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> </system.serviceModel> The web appliation (client) web.config says: <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <wsHttpBinding> <binding name="WSHttpBinding_IMigrationHelper" closeTimeout="00:01:00" openTimeout="00:01:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:01:00" bypassProxyOnLocal="false" transactionFlow="false" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536" messageEncoding="Text" textEncoding="utf-8" useDefaultWebProxy="true" allowCookies="false"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="8192" maxArrayLength="16384" maxBytesPerRead="4096" maxNameTableCharCount="16384"/> <reliableSession ordered="true" inactivityTimeout="00:10:00" enabled="false"/> <security mode="Message"> <transport clientCredentialType="Windows" proxyCredentialType="None" realm=""/> <message clientCredentialType="Windows" negotiateServiceCredential="true" algorithmSuite="Default" establishSecurityContext="true"/> </security> </binding> </wsHttpBinding> </bindings> <client> <endpoint address="http://mydomain.com/MigrationHelper.svc" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="WSHttpBinding_IMigrationHelper" contract="MyNewServiceReference.IMigrationHelper" name="WSHttpBinding_IMigrationHelper"> <identity> <dns value="localhost"/> </identity> </endpoint> </client> </system.serviceModel> I believe both these are just the default that VS 2008 created for me. So my question is, how does one go about configurating the service and client, when they are not in the same domain? Thanks .Jim Biddison

  • "interface not found" in WCF Moniker without registration for excel

    - by tbischel
    I'm trying to connect excel to a WCF service, but I can't seem to get even a trivial case to work... I get an Invalid Syntax error when I try and create the proxy in excel. I've attached the visual studio debugger to excel, and get that the real error is "interface not found". I know the service works because the test client created by visual studio is ok... so the problem is in the VBA moniker string. I'm hoping to find one of two things: 1) a correction to my moniker string that will make this work, or 2) an existing sample project to download that has the source for both the host and client that does work. Here is the code for my VBA client: Dim addr As String addr = "service:mexAddress=net.tcp://localhost:7891/Test/WcfService1/Service1/mex, " addr = addr + "address=net.tcp://localhost:7891/Test/WcfService1/Service1/, " addr = addr + "contract=IService1, contractNamespace=http://tempuri.org, " addr = addr + "binding=NetTcpBinding_IService1, bindingNamespace=""http://tempuri.org""" MsgBox (addr) Dim service1 As Object Set service1 = GetObject(addr) MsgBox service1.Test(12) I have the following service: [ServiceContract] public interface IService1 { [OperationContract] string GetData(int value); } public class Service1 : IService1 { public string GetData(int value) { return string.Format("You entered: {0}", value); } } It has the following config file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <system.web> <compilation debug="true" /> </system.web> <!-- When deploying the service library project, the content of the config file must be added to the host's app.config file. • WCF via SSL connectivity problems

    - by Brett Widmeier
    Hello, I am hosting a WCF service from inside a Windows service using WAS. When I set the service to listen on 127.0.0.1, I have connectivity from my local machine as well as from my network. However, when I set it to listen on my outbound interface port 443, I can no longer even see the wsdl by connecting with a browser. Strangely, I can connect to the service by using telnet. The cert I am using was generated for my interface by a CA, and I have successfully used this exact cert with this service before. When checking the application log, I see that the service starts without error and is listening on the correct interface. From this information, it seems to me that the config file is in a valid state, but somehow misconfigured for what I want. I have, however, previously deployed this same setup on other sites using this config file. In case it is helpful, below is my config file. Any thoughts? <!--<system.diagnostics> <sources> <source name="System.ServiceModel" switchValue="Warning, ActivityTracing" propagateActivity="true"> <listeners> <add type="System.Diagnostics.DefaultTraceListener" name="Default"> <filter type="" /> </add> <add name="ServiceModelTraceListener"> <filter type="" /> </add> </listeners> </source> </sources> <sharedListeners> <add initializeData="app_tracelog.svclog" type="System.Diagnostics.XmlWriterTraceListener, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" name="ServiceModelTraceListener" traceOutputOptions="Timestamp"> <filter type="" /> </add> </sharedListeners> </system.diagnostics>--> <appSettings/> <connectionStrings/> <system.serviceModel> <!--<diagnostics> <messageLogging logEntireMessage="true" logMalformedMessages="true" logMessagesAtServiceLevel="true" logMessagesAtTransportLevel="true" maxMessagesToLog ="1000" maxSizeOfMessageToLog="524288"/> </diagnostics>--> <bindings> <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="basicHttps"> <security mode="Transport"> <transport clientCredentialType="None"/> <message /> </security> </binding> </basicHttpBinding> </bindings> <services> <service behaviorConfiguration="ServiceBehavior" name="<fully qualified name of service>"> <endpoint address="" binding="basicHttpBinding" name="OrdersSoap" contract="<fully qualified name of contract>" bindingNamespace="http://emr.orders.com/WebServices" bindingConfiguration="basicHttps" /> <endpoint binding="mexHttpsBinding" address="mex" contract="IMetadataExchange" /> <host> <baseAddresses> <add baseAddress="https://<external IP>/<name of service>>/" /> </baseAddresses> </host> </service> </services> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="ServiceBehavior"> <serviceMetadata httpsGetEnabled="False"/> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="True" /> <dataContractSerializer maxItemsInObjectGraph="2147483646"/> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> </system.serviceModel>

  • WCF timedout waiting for System.Diagnostics.Process to finish

    - by Bartek
    Dear All, We have a WCF Service deployed on Windows Server 2003 that handles file transfers. When file is in Unix format, I am converting it to Dos format in the initialization stage using System.Diagnostics.Process (.WaitForExit()). Client calls the service: obj_DataSenderService = New DataSendClient() obj_DataSenderService.InnerChannel.OperationTimeout = New TimeSpan(0, System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("DatasenderServiceOperationTimeout"), 0) str_DataSenderGUID = obj_DataSenderService.Initialize(xe_InitDetails.GetXMLNode) This works fine, however for large files the conversion takes more than 10 minutes and I am getting exception: A first chance exception of type 'System.ServiceModel.CommunicationException' occurred in mscorlib.dll Additional information: The socket connection was aborted. • An Epic Question "How to call a method when the page loads"

    - by Arunkumar Ramamoorthy
    Quite often, there comes a question in OTN, with different subjects, all meaning "How to call a method when my ADF page loads?". More often, people tend to take the approach of ADF Phase Listener by overriding before/afterPhase methods.In this blog, we will go through different options in achieving it.1. Method Call Activity as default activity in Taskflow :If the application is built with taskflows, then this is the best suited approach to take. 1.a. Calling a Data Control Method :To call a Data Control method (ex: A method in AMImpl exposed as client interface), simply Drag and Drop the method as Default Method Call Activity, then draw a control flow case from the method to your page. Once after this, drop the taskflow as region in main page. When we run the main page, the Method Call Activity would be called first, and then the page will be rendered.1.b. Calling a Method in Backing Bean: To call a method in the backing bean before pageload, we can follow the similar approach as above. Instead of binding the Method Call Activity to an action/method binding in pagedef, we bind to the method. Insert a Method Call Activity (and make it as default) from the Component Palette. Double click on to select a method to bind. This approach can also be used, to perform some action in backing bean along with calling a method Data Control (just need to add bindings code in backing bean to execute DC method). 2. Using invokeAction Executable :If the application is built with pages and no taskflows are involved, then this option can be taken into consideration.In the page definition of the page, add an invokeAction Executable and bind it to the method needed to be executed. 3. Using combination of Server and Client Listeners : If the page does not have any page definition, then to call a method in backing bean, this approach can be taken. In this, a serverListener would be added at the document level, which would be calling the method in backing bean. Along with this, a clientListener would be added with "load" type (i.e will be triggered when the page loads), which would queue a serverEvent to trigger the method. 4. Using Page Phase Listener :This should be the last resort. Care should be taken when using this approach since the Phase Listener would be called for each request sent by the client.Zeeshan Baig's blog covers this scenario.

  • WCF deadlock when using callback channel

    - by mafutrct
    This is probably a simple mistake, but I could not figure out what was wrong. I basically got a method like this: [ServiceBehavior ( ConcurrencyMode = ConcurrencyMode.Reentrant, InstanceContextMode = InstanceContextMode.PerSession, IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults = true) ] public class Impl : SomeContract { public string Foo() { _CallbackChannel.Blah(); return ""; } } Its interface is decorated: [ServiceContract ( Namespace = "http://MyServiceInterface", SessionMode = SessionMode.Required, CallbackContract = typeof (WcfCallbackContract)) ] public interface SomeContract { [OperationContract] string Foo (); } The service is hosted like this: ServiceHost host = new ServiceHost (typeof (Impl)); var binding = new NetTcpBinding (); var address = new Uri ("net.tcp://localhost:8000/"); host.AddServiceEndpoint ( typeof (SomeContract), binding, address); host.Open (); The client implements the callback interface and calls Foo. Foo runs, calls the callback method and returns. However, the client is still struck in the call to Foo and never returns. The client callback method is never run. I guess I made a design mistake somewhere. If needed, I can post more code. Any help is appreciated.

  • Preloading multiple comboboxes/listbox itemssource with enumerated values using WCF RIA Services

    - by Dale Halliwell
    I would like to be able to load several RIA entitysets in a single call without chaining/nesting several small LoadOperations together so that they load sequentially. I have several pages that have a number of comboboxes on them. These comboboxes are populated with static values from a database (for example status values). Right now I preload these values in my VM by one method that strings together a series of LoadOperations for each type that I want to load. For example: public void LoadEnums() { context.Load(context.GetMyStatusValues1Query()).Completed += (s, e) => { this.StatusValues1 = context.StatusValues1; context.Load(context.GetMyStatusValues2()).Completed += (s1, e1) => { this.StatusValues2 = context.StatusValues2; context.Load(context.GetMyStatusValues3Query()).Completed += (s2, e2) => { this.StatusValues3 = context.StatusValues3; (....and so on) }; }; }; }; While this works fine, it seems a bit nasty. Also, I would like to know when the last loadoperation completes so that I can load whatever entity I want to work on after this, so that these enumerated values resolve properly in form elements like comboboxes and listboxes. (I think) I can't do this easily above without creating a delegate and calling that on the completion of the last loadoperation. So my question is: does anyone out there know a better pattern to use, ideally where I can load all my static entitysets in a single LoadOperation?

  • How to avoid timeouts in WCF?

    - by Jader Dias
    I use netNamedPipeBinding, and my service methods return nothing (void), but they timeout: TimeoutException: "The open operation did not complete within the allotted timeout of 00:01:00. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout." But the timeout still occurs. I expected that it solved my problem. Its the netMsmqBinding the only one that could avoid such timeout? I also tried to make all processing in a separate thread, so the service can disconnect earlier, with no success.

  • WCF with No security

    - by james.ingham
    Hi all, I've got a WCF service setup which I can consume and use as intendid... but only on the same machine. I'm looking to get this working over multiple computers and I'm not fussed about the security. However when I set (client side) the security to = none, I get a InvalidOperationException: The service certificate is not provided for target 'http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8731/Design_Time_Addresses/WcfServiceLibrary/ManagementService/'. Specify a service certificate in ClientCredentials. So I'm left with: <security mode="Message"> <message clientCredentialType="None" negotiateServiceCredential="false" algorithmSuite="Default" /> </security> But this gives me another InvalidOperationException: The service certificate is not provided for target 'http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8731/Design_Time_Addresses/WcfServiceLibrary/ManagementService/'. Specify a service certificate in ClientCredentials. Why would I have to provide a certificate if security was turned off? • WCF ReliableMessaging method called twice

    - by Brian
    Using Fiddler, we see 3 HTTP requests (and matching responses) for each call when: WS-ReliableMessaging is enabled, and, the method returns a large amount of data (17MB) The first HTTP request is a SOAP message with the action "CreateSequence" (presumable to establish the reliable session). The second and third HTTP requests are identical SOAP messages invoking our webservice method. Why are there two identical messages? Here is our config: <system.serviceModel> <client> <endpoint address="http://server/vdir/AccountingService.svc" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="customWsHttpBinding" behaviorConfiguration="LargeServiceBehavior" contract="MyProject.Accounting.IAccountingService" name="BasicHttpBinding_IAccountingService" /> </client> <bindings> <wsHttpBinding> <binding name="customWsHttpBinding" maxReceivedMessageSize="90000000"> <reliableSession enabled="true"/> <security mode="None" /> </binding> </wsHttpBinding> </bindings> <behaviors> <endpointBehaviors> <behavior name="LargeServiceBehavior"> <dataContractSerializer maxItemsInObjectGraph="2147483647"/> </behavior> </endpointBehaviors> </behaviors> </system.serviceModel> Thanks, Brian

  • Concurrent WCF calls via shared channel

    - by Kent Boogaart
    I have a web tier that forwards calls onto an application tier. The web tier uses a shared, cached channel to do so. The application tier services in question are stateless and have concurrency enabled. But they are not being called concurrently. If I alter the web tier to create a new channel on every call, then I do get concurrent calls onto the application tier. But I wanted to avoid that cost since it is functionally unnecessary for my scenario. I have no session state, and nor do I need to re-authenticate the caller each time. I understand that the creation of the channel factory is far more expensive than than the creation of the channels, but it is still a cost I'd like to avoid if possible. I found this article on MSDN that states: While channels and clients created by the channels are thread-safe, they might not support writing more than one message to the wire concurrently. If you are sending large messages, particularly if streaming, the send operation might block waiting for another send to complete. Firstly, I'm not sending large messages (just a lot of small ones since I'm doing load testing) but am still seeing the blocking behavior. Secondly, this is rather open-ended and unhelpful documentation. It says they "might not" support writing more than one message but doesn't explain the scenarios under which they would support concurrent messages. Can anyone shed some light on this?

  • Consuming WCF Web Service

    - by Debby
    Hi, I have a simple web service running and I have a console application client consuming the service. I did have issues getting this running and I had been helped by some wonderful people in this community. I have another problem: if I want to call the service from the client in a loop, it doesn't work. It works only for the first time and then it just keeps waiting. Why is this happening and how can I resolve it. The code: namespace WebService { [ServiceContract] public interface IService { [OperationContract(Name="Result")] [WebGet(UriTemplate = "/")] Stream Result(); } public class Service:IService { public Stream Result() { // read a file from the server and return it as stream } } } The client: namespace WebServiceClient { [ServiceContract] public interface IService { [OperationContract(Name="Result")] [WebGet(UriTemplate = "/")] Stream Result(); } } static void Main() { Console.WriteLine("Press enter when the service is available"); Console.ReadLine(); // creating factory HttpChunkingBinding binding = new HttpChunkingBinding(); binding.MaxReceivedMessageSize = 0x7fffffffL; ChannelFactory<WebServiceClient.IService> factory = new ChannelFactory<WebServiceClient.IService> (binding, new EndpointAddress("http://localhost/WebService/Service")); WebServiceClient.IService service = factory.CreateChannel(); for(int i = 0; i < 10; i++) { Stream s = service.Result(); // write this stream to a file and close the stream } //Closing our channel. ((IClientChannel)service).Close(); } Thanks,
