  • Auto load balancing two node Cluster Hyper-v 2008 R2 enterprise?

    My setup is a 2 node cluster with 72GB ram each and a ~10TB MD3000i Iscsi SAN. I have about 30VMs running I keep about 15 on either server. I do a live migration to the other server if I need to run updates or whatever... Either one of the servers is able of running all VM if needed, but the cpu is pretty high. Here's my issues. I know Hyper-v has a limit of a single Live-migration at a time. But Why doesn't it queue them up to move one at a time? If I multi select I don't get the option to live migrate a one at a time. OR if I'm in the process of Migrating one it will give me an error that it's currently migrating a VM... Is there a button I missed that will tell a Node that it needs to migrate all the VMs elsewhere? Another question, does anyone know whats the best way to load balance VMs based on CPU and/or network utilzation. I have some VMs that don't do much. and some that trash the CPU or network. I'd like to balance it out on both servers if at all possible. and Is there any way to automate it? last question... If I overcommit my Cluster is there a way to tell the cluster that I want certian VMs the be running and to savestate other VMs based on availible system resources? Say when my one node blue screens and the other node begins starting the VMs up. I want the unimportant ones to shutdown or savestate so the important ones can stay running or come back online.   • autocomplete not working on one sever, works on others

    I have Ubuntu 10.10 x64 and x86 running on various servers and auto complete works on all of them bar one. The issue: apt-<tab> would show a list of options but sudo apt-<tab> would not. After fiddling with it for a few hours i've found that /etc/bash_autocomplete did not exist. on the broken server. Copying the one from a working one it now works. but still not properly. sudo apt-get ins<tab> does not show do anything. listing the files in /etc/bash_autocomplete.d/ on the working server has about 50 files, and the broken one only two or three. i dont think that i can just copy these files though as it might show commands for things that are not even installed. TL;DR autocomplete broken, how can i fix it. Seems like its disabled somewhere, why is this EDIT: Ok, it was not ever installed... $ sudo apt-get install bash-completion Reading package lists...   • What changes does McAfee make to the registry?

    I'm wondering if anyone knows exactly what McAfee does to the registry. I've got a computer on which JavaScript no longer works. I read online that McAfee replaces the script interpreter dll path in the registry to point to its own dll, which filters, and in turn calls the official "jscript.dll". I found multiples of these in the registry, and corrected them, but it still hasn't fixed the problem - JavaScript still does not work. I'm considering just reinstalling, and then re-uninstalling McAfee to fix it. However, for the record, I still want to know if anyone has, or can provide an online list of all the changes McAfee makes to the registry. I looked nXhtml and its good on some parts (html code completion works but sucks on indentation and CSS code completion does not work and says tag table is empty most cases.   • Auto-Attach EBS-volume to a New Spot Instance?

    I am experimenting with EC2 spot instances, and am needing some data to be retained between terminations. Now as I understand it, when the current price goes above my max. bid, it will be automatically terminated. I assume any init scripts I have will be run on shutdown so I can push data off to the EBS before unmounting. My question is, how can I automatically mount the same EBS volume on the new spot instance once the price goes down, since it won't have any of my init scripts that I would've loaded onto the root volume the first time? Do I have to create a custom AMI, or is there some other way to achieve this?

  • Installing FIREFOX with extensions/addons manually? (not really auto install)

    I've been reading around with regards to creating firefox installers, bundling it w/ addons, using scripts, and CLI lines and a whole bunch of stuffs ... but it seems that going through this route is just too complicated and time consuming.. Since i don't mind a bit of manually copying files and stuff, I was planning to do the following: on my test machine, 1) install firefox on a machine AND configure it the way i want it 2) install addons AND set the configurations for it 3) set advanced configurations for firefox (about:config) Then once i'm all set, I just simply copy the contents of the firefox/profiles folder (for this particular tests it's ....\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\6m0mef0s.default for deployment, all i have to do is: 1) Install the same version (offline installer) of the Firefox i used.. 2) overwrite the contents of the new profiles folder (randomly named by Firefox installer as usual) .. This should set all my configs and addons right? or what other folders do i have to backup and copy manually into the new profiles folder? I don't think i need to tinker w/ any registries right? anyway, if this works, though it's a bit manual, it's a whole lot simplier, and straight forward than fiddling w/ Installers and Packages etc.. PS I do this a lot w/ other simple (and some complex) software that i use and they seem to work fine for years.. i'm just not sure with firefox and how it's structured..

  • Can I disable chrome's auto translate function for visitors to a given page on my site?

    I know how to disable this feature for pages that I visit, but what I'm looking for is a way to tell other user's Chrome browsers not to offer translation a particular page on my site. Is there some kind of meta tag I can use? Alternatively, can I indicate that a particular element on the page should not be translated? Reason: The controls which slide down from the top of the page cause my page to resize, which changes the content, which makes the control slide up, which resizes the page, which changes the content, which causes the controls to slide back in. Rinse and repeat. The page dances. The page itself is a map, and the content it wants to translate are all proper names and shouldn't be translated anyway. If alternate names exist in other languages, I provide them myself. Generally I'm against taking away features from the browser that users might like, but in this case it really makes sense. So please don't answer saying that I shouldn't be doing this. I've weighed up the options.

  • How can I auto-connect to a WPA2 Enterprise network?

    I would like my computer to automatically connect to a WPA2-Enterprise network as soon as it boots whenever the network is available, without any action needed by me. The computer already offers to connect, and even remembers the password, but I must still hit 'Enter' to connect. Also, connection does not occur if my login is at the terminal. I would like to automatically connect every time I login, no matter how I do so, unless a more preferred network is available. What is the best way to do this? I am running Fedora 19. A shell script that can be invoked at the terminal would be preferred. Connecting even if the Gnome-desktop has not launched is a must.

    So I'm a dual-booter. I'm looking for an easy way to keep up-to-date symlinks in my Linux home folder pointing to every file and folder in the root of Windows personal directory. So, say I have foo.txt and bar.txt in C:\Windows\Documents and Settings\Nathaniel. I want symlinks of those files to automatically be made in /home/nathaniel/ (while I'm running Linux, of course).

  • In Jetty, can NCSARequestLog be configured to auto-detect the time zone?

    It looks as though in 2003 or so NCSARequestLog would pick up the system time zone using TimeZone.getDefault().getID(), but in more recent versions it seems as though it's hard-coded to GMT, unless you override it in jetty.xml or programmatically. If true, this kind of annoying, since it means if you don't want GMT logging you have to edit jetty.xml for every installation (not to mention twice a year for daylight saving time). Is there a workaround that will let Jetty pick the time zone up from the system? (X-posted to Stack Overflow.)

    I'm trying to find information how do we take a screenshot on Windows 7 that will actually create a screenshot file like .png in to your desktop like on mac where you can do it by press Command+Control+Shift+4. In windows all I know is that I can do it by press press = Windows captures the entire screen and copies it to the clipboard. or for the Active windows I can just do hold and press = Windows captures only the currently active window and copies it to the clipboard. Right now I'm using maComFort which it gives me functionality of Mac like keyboard that I can take screenshot in such the same way with Mac OS X but really it changes many of the key in my keyboard in the way I don't like. So I wonder if there is a better way?

  • Excel 2007: what happened to the Auto Expand Selection tool?

    Older versions of Excel had a icon that would expand the selection to include any non-empty cells in all directions. It was an X shape with four arrowheads. You can still write VBA code to do this, but I really miss this tool. Did they just drop it from Excel 2007? In older versions you had to go get it from the Customize menu because it wasn't on any toolbar by default.

  • How do I keep second monitor (HDTV) from auto-disabling in XP when it is turned off?

    I have a new 32" TV that I hooked up to the HDMI port on the back of my video card to use as a second monitor. I used an HDMI/DVI cable to hook it to the TV, and whenever I turn my TV off, XP disables the device tied to the TV so each time I want to use the TV as the monitor, I have to go into my display properties and enable it; it gets pretty annoying. How do I turn this 'feature' off? -- I have an NVidia card should it be specific to the nvidia control panel.

I have the ToC set up fine, but is there a way to have it update automatically (at document open, save or otherwise)? Word help suggests that it should update upon opening the document, but that doesn't seem to happen. Any ideas?

    I am able to mount my drive manually like this (ubuntu): sudo mount -t vboxsf C_DRIVE /mnt/saga_c But when I try and add it to my fstab it does not mount when I restart the machine. Is there something wrong with my /etc/fstab line: C_DRIVE /mnt/saga_c vboxsf defaults 0 0 Do I need something in addition to the vboxsf? Or is there something else I am doing incorrectly?

    Notepad++ does auto-complete for html and also for JavaScript. but the auto-completion depends on file extension.html file supports completion for html only. Is there a way to enable auto-completion for javascript in the script tag of an html file? I mean, other than copying the auto-completion keyword list from "javascript.xml" to "html.xml" files... As suggested on stackoverflow, asking on superuser, as I could not find a satisfactory answer there. If anyone has any idea, please let me know! (I hope I am not the only one having this kind of an requirement! :))

  • How to auto mark tape as free in DPM 2012?

    I have a backup server running System Center Data Protection Manager 2012, connected to a couple of tape drives (no library). I also have, of course, some tapes. Tape rotation is manual. The tape have been used before, by DPM itself (but the server has been completely rebuilt) and by other backup softwares; they are not emtpy. But they contain no data that DPM knows and/or wants to preserve, so they can be marked as free without having to run forcefreetape.ps1. When a tape is placed into the drive, it is required to perform an inventory, have it recognized as an imported tape and then mark it as free; otherwise DPM will simply refuse to use it. How can I tell DPM to automatically treat those imported tapes as free? And, of course, I do not want to reuse real backup tapes if by chance they get put into the drives before their expiration date, so the solution should mark imported tapes as free, but should not do the same with real, non-expired tapes.

I know that it is not so simple, because Excel does no have any page size. At least, they could make some estimations.   • How to make project auto-estimate duration based on work?

    This one has bothered me for a long while. I like to do estimates thinking on how much time a certain task will take (I'm in TI business), so, let's say, it takes 12 hours to build a program. Now, let's say I tell Project that my beginning date is today. If I allocate one resource to this task, it means that the task will last 1,5 days, implying that it will end tomorrow. But right now, that is not what it's doing. I say that the task will take 1 hour, and when I add a resource to it, it allocate the resource at [13%] basis, which means that the duration is still fixed... project is trying to make the task last for a day. I have, on many occasions, accomplished this. What I do is build a plan based on these rough estimates for effort, then I allocate tasks to resources. Times conflict, so I level resources and then Project magically tells me how long, in days, will it take. But every time I have to start estimating again, I end up having trouble on how to make project work like that.

    I'm trying to use plain-text emails to submit posts to my blog that's hosted on Blogger. I've set my email client to use plain-text but every time I send a post, Blogger hard wraps it instead of letting the text just flow. I've tried this with different mail clients and gotten the same results. I'm 100% sure that I'm sending plain text each time. Does anyone know how to get Blogger to quit doing this? Sigh. Maybe I'll switch to Wordpress...
