As requested in the issue 144038, I've implemented support for Groovy in a Java enterprise projects. • Torvalds' quote about good programmer

    - by beyeran
Accidentally I've stumbled upon the following quote by Linus Torvalds: "Bad programmers worry about the code. Good programmers worry about data structures and their relationships." I've thought about it for the last few days and I'm still confused (which is probably not a good sign), hence I wanted to discuss the following: What interpretation of this possible/makes sense? What can be applied/learned from it?

  • Will New Horizons have to bailout?

    - by TATWORTH
At http://pluto.jhuapl.edu/news_center/news/20121016.php, there is an interesting post about the challenge facing the New Horizons as to whether to allow the spacecraft to remain on the current trajectory which will take it between Pluto and the orbit of Charon, the closest in known moon of Pluto. Given that the current round-trip light time is 6 hrs 53 minutes, a decision to go for a bail-out fly-past must be taken some 10 days in advance of the actual fly-past.

  • A list of the most important areas to examine when moving a project from x86 to x64?

    - by AbrahamVanHelpsing
I know to check for/use asserts and carefully examine any assembly components, but I didn't know if anyone out there has a fairly comprehensive or industry standard check-list of specific things at which to look? I am looking more at C and C++. note: There are some really helpful answers, I'm just leaving the question open for a couple days in case some folks only check questions that don't have accepted answers.

  • Left Mouse Button not Working

    - by giodamelio
I recent changed from ubuntu to xubuntu 12.04. The install worked great for a few days, but suddenly the left mouse button stopped working. The right click and scroll bars work fine. After a bit of experimenting I discovered that the problem only happens when I set the session to Xubuntu at login. The mouse also works fine in my dual-booted windows vista. What could make my mouse stop working like that?

I have an X79 motherboard and a GTX 670. I have tried to install every combination of Ubuntu 11.10, 12.04, 12.10, Linux Mint 13 and the Nvidia Driver 304.43, 295.xx, etc. I have read everything and pretty much tried everything...drivers from the site, PPAs, some random scripts, editing the xorg.conf file. It has been four days of futile effort. Should I just wait...or something? Has anyone gotten hardware like this to work?

  • Page views in Google Analytics are off compared to a similar metric

    - by tiki16
We have a page where a user can sign a pledge to recycle by clicking a pledge button. A script writes it to a text file which updates the number on the page. In the past 2 days there have been 185 pledges signed but only 63 page views in GA. I trust that they are unique pledges and not just people adding multiple fake names and entering it. Is there anyway to get a better report from Google Analytics?
