    - by ajay
This is in relation to:- http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2576514/basic-tomcat-servlet-error I changed my web.xml file, did ant compile , all, /etc/init.d/tomcat stop , start Even then my web.xml file in tomcat deployment is still unchanged. This is build.properties file:- app.name=hello catalina.home=/usr/local/tomcat manager.username=admin manager.password=admin This is my build.xml file. • So LibGDX / Java or XNA / C# [on hold]

    - by Israel G.
I am curious to know what will be better for me - LibGDX / Java or XNA / C#. I am on the same level with C# and Java (I am pretty advanced with both of them). I really want to get into game development, develop indie games and such. So what are the pros and cons of XNA and LibGDX, what do you prefer personally and why? Java - LibGDX is cross platform and uses OpenGL. C# - XNA is for windows only ( you can use monogame but it will hurt performance and other things), Unfortunately, XNA is not going to be supported anymore but I still see people that recommend it over libGDX. (XNA is more popular and has more tutorials then libGDX). So please help me to pick, I really don't know what to choose. Thanks a lot!

  • Unauthorized Access Exception using Web Deploy to Site when the site root is a UNC path

    - by Peter LaComb Jr.
I am trying to use Web Deploy to deploy a site where the Site is rooted on a UNC path instead of a local drive. This is because I want to have a shared configuration, and have all servers point to the same UNC for content. That would allow me to deploy to one server and have all servers updated at the same time. I've created a share with everyone and users read/write. The NTFS permissions have the ID of the appDomain account as full control, and that is the same account that is configured as the specific user in Management Service Delegation. I can log on to the destination server as that ID, access the share and create/delete files. However, I'm getting the following exception in my Microsoft Web Deploy log on the destination server: User: Client IP: 192.168.62.174 Content-Type: application/msdeploy Version: 9.0.0.0 MSDeploy.VersionMin: 7.1.600.0 MSDeploy.VersionMax: 9.0.1631.0 MSDeploy.Method: Sync MSDeploy.RequestId: c060c823-cdb4-4abe-8294-5ffbdc327d2e MSDeploy.RequestCulture: en-US MSDeploy.RequestUICulture: en-US ServerVersion: 9.0.1631.0 Skip: objectName="^configProtectedData$" Provider: auto, Path: A tracing deployment agent exception occurred that was propagated to the client. • Java code generation from class diagram

    - by Sanjay
I'm on the way developing a Java application where user can provide a class diagram and get the corresponding Java code. I don't know how can I let the user interactively draw a class diagram in Java. I am currently getting the required parameters like attributes, functions directly from the user, and then I render a class diagram for him. I show the class diagram on a jdialog. Is there a better way to do this? This is an example of a class diagram, I need to generate this from a Java program, given the values and relationship.

  • Submitting Java Code with Junit unit test

    - by LivingThing
I have mostly work on simple java programs and compiled and run it with eclipse on Windows. So, i have no experience of using command prompt for compiling Java projects and do not have much info about what actually happens beneath the play button in Eclipse. Now i have to submit a Java application which will have basic operation on XML. My project also will have (JUnit) Unit Test. My question is related to submission of this Project. Which files would be necessary to submit the code. So, it executes properly? Does chosing eclipse as an IDE or junit as a unit testing framweork produces any dependenices i.e the executor of the program should have eclipse/libraries to execute the program on his machine?

  • what is best book to learn optimized programming in java [closed]

    - by Abhishek Simon
Possible Duplicate: Is there a canonical book for learning Java as an experienced developer? Let me elaborate a little: I used to be a C/C++ programmer where I used data structure concept like trees, queues stack etc and tried to optimize as much as possible, minimum no. of loops, variables and tried to make it efficient. It's been a couple of years that I started writing java codes, but it is simply not that efficient in terms of performance, memory intensive etc. To the point: I want to enter programming challenges using java so I need to improve my approach at things I program. So please suggest me some books that can help me learn to program better and have a chance in solving challenges in programming.

I started studying java but i am little bit slow in logic and understanding the concepts. I have some good books of java but when doing the program i am losing my confidence because of the logic issues. I have some doubts How can i improve my logical and coding skills HOw to get more and more interest in programming (like i heard about some programmers who are geeks, i mean programming machines). Is there any shortcut for studying programming Please provide some suggestions as i knew this forum has lots of good programmers. Please share ur thoughts and how you people improving ur logics. • Java 8 for Tablets, Pis, and Legos at Silicon Valley JUG - 8/20/2014

    - by hinkmond
A bunch of people attended the Silicon Valley Java Users Group meeting last night and saw Stephen Chin talk about "Java 8 for Tablets, Pis, and Legos". I was there and thought Stephen's presentation and demos were very cool as always. Here are some photos (mostly taken by Arun) from last night. See: Photos from SV JUG 8/20/2014 The most interesting combination of the topics from last night (to me at least) is to combine Lambdas from Java SE Embedded 8 with running on an embedded device like the Raspberry Pi, or even better on an i.MX6 target device with a quad-core processor. Lambdas and Embedded, now that's a cool combo... Hinkmond

  • running jar in a terminal using axis2

    - by Emilio
I'm trying to run in the command line a java application distributed in a jar file. It call an axis2 web service, so the jar contains a /axis2client directory with rampart.mar security module. It works fine while I run it in netbeans, but it throws an exception if I try to run it in a terminal using this command: java -jar myfile.jar The Exception: org.apache.axis2.AxisFault: invalid url: //file:/home/xxx/Desktop/myfile.jar!/axis2client/ (java.net.MalformedURLException: no protocol: //file:/home/xxx/Desktop/myfile.jar) As you can see, it's trying to use the /axis2client directory inside the jar, as when I run it in Netbeans, but It fails with a MalformedURLException. I think it's something about the protocol 'file:', probably '//file:/' must be 'file:///'. The problem is that I cannot change this call to the directory because the method that loads the /axis2client directory it's not mine, it's from another library that use my project and include all the axis2 support. So, any idea?? Thanks in advance lads!

  • Are Java certifications important for an architect role?

    - by Tahir Akram
My this question is career path related. I want to know how much Java Certifications (SCJP, SCWCD and others) are important for an architect position. If a person posses a good experience in Java development and want to pursue his career on architect level, do you guys think he need to have certification on his CV. If he has never worked on lead developer roles? If you conducting my interview for an architect position. And I have worked as a Java web developer in different teams having 5 years of exp. Never lead any. And I am having certification badges on my CV. How can a developer make his career path towards being an architect in a team?

  • Is Java easy decompilation a factor worth considering

    - by Sandra G
We are considering the programming language for a desktop application with extended GUI use (tables, windows) and heavy database use. We considered Java for use however the fact that it can be decompiled back very easily into source code is holding us back. There are of course many obfuscators available however they are just that: obfuscators. The only obfuscation worth doing we got was stripping function and variables names into meaningless letters and numbers so that at least stealing code and renaming it back into something meaningful is too much work and we are 100% sure it is not reversible back in any automated way. However as it concerns to protecting internals (like password hashes or sensible variables content) we found obfuscators really lacking. Is there any way to make Java applications as hard to decode as .exe counterparts? And is it a factor to consider when deciding whether to develop in Java a desktop application?

  • E-books make smart kids using Java ME mobile phones

    - by hinkmond
Worldreader has been distributing e-books on Kindle devices to children in sub-Saharan Africa to teach the students how to read. But now, Worldreader has also created a Java ME app that helps even more students in developing countries to have access to free books. See: Reaching more students w/Java ME Here's a quote: In many African countries, 80 percent of the population owns a cell phone. Up to now, Worldreader has focused on distributing Kindles to classrooms (the organization’s founder is former Amazon exec, but by making e-books available via cell phones the organization can reach a much wider group of readers. Using technology to teach kids how to read in developing nations is a good way to use mobile devices like Java ME feature phones--a lot better than trying to slingshot cartoon angry birds at green pigs on those other platforms, doncha think? • Text comparison algorithm using java-diff-utils

    - by java_mouse
One of the features in our project is to implement a comparison algorithm between two versions of text and provide a % change between the two versions. While I was researching, I came across google java-diff-utils project. Has anyone used this for comparing text using java-diff-utils ? Using this utility, I can get a list of "delta" which I assume I can use it for the % of difference between two versions of the text? Is this a correct way of doing this? If you have done any text comparison algorithm using Java, could you give me some pointers?

  • Jump into Android or learn Java basics first?

    - by daniels
I am quite proficient in C and know some C++, but never touched Java. Recently I got an idea for an app which I think has potential, and I want to develop it. I am planning to go Android first, cause it doesn't require a mac/iPhone. So my question is: can I go straight to learning Android development, picking up the Java syntax as I go along and need it (after all I don't think it's much different from C/C++), or should I take a couple of weeks to learn the basics of Java first and then start with Android development?

  • Install Java on Ubuntu server (Parallels Plesk)

    - by atMaarten
I want to install Java to my server so I can use PHP shell_exec to compile Java online. So I'm trying to install Java on my webserver (Ubuntu - Parallels Plesk). I logged in to the server with PuTTY and tried some commands like: sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jre or sudo apt-get install oracle-java7-installer But than I get error's like: Package drweb-bases must be reinstalled, but there can be no archive found. I tried to uninstall drweb-bases, reinstall, no matter what. I still get that error. What you I need to do? I am doing it completly wrong? Am I not destroying my webserver? There is not much to find on this topic on Google.

  • Java Phones: How to set up JTAPI?

    - by Adam Tannon
I want to use JTAPI (1.4 - latest) to create an app that will call my phone whenever I need it to. I downloaded JSR043 (JTAPI specification) and have been reading the API docs and it seems pretty straight forward with respect to how to code JTAPI. However I seriously doubt that getting a Java app on my laptop to call my cell phone doesn't require some 3rd party or middle man service provider and possibly other entities/configurations as well. So I ask: besides using the JTAPI in my Java code, what do I need to install or set up to have a Java app that calls my phone? Thanks in advance!
