  • How do I declare a pipe in a header file? (In C)

    - by Kyle
    I have an assignment in which I need to declare a pipe in a header file. I really have no idea how to do this. It might be a really stupid question and I might be missing something obvious. If you could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your time.

  • Haskell "Source reduction"

    - by Martin
    I'm revising for an upcoming Haskell exam and I don't understand one of the questions on a past paper. Google turns up nothing useful fst(x, y) = x square i = i * i i) Source reduce, using Haskells lazy evaluation, the expression: fst(square(3+4), square 8) ii) Source reduce, using strict evaluation, the same expression iii) State one advantage of lazy evaluation and one advantage of strict evaluation

  • C: theory on how to extract files from an archived file

    - by donok
    In C I have created a program which can archive multiple files into an archive file via the command line. e.g. $echo 'file1/2' > file1/2.txt $./archive file1.txt file2.txt arhivedfile $cat archivedfile file1 file2 How do I create a process so that in my archivedfile I have: header file1 end header file2 end They are all stored in the archive file one after another after another. I know that perhaps a header file is needed(containing filename, size of filename, start and end of file) for extracting these files back out into their original form, but how would I go about doing this. I am stuck on where and how to start. Please could someone help me on some logic as to how to approach extracting files back out of an archived file.

    I need make a merge sort using an additional array. Here is my code: public class extra_storage{ public static void main(String[]args) { int x[]=new int[]{12,9,4,99,120,1,3,10}; int a[]=new int[x.length]; mergesort(x,0,x.length-1,a); for (int i=0;i<x.length;i++){ System.out.println(x[i]); } } public static void mergesort(int x[],int low,int high, int a[]){ if (low>=high) { return; } int middle=(low+high)/2; mergesort(x,low,middle,a); mergesort(x,middle+1,high,a); int k; int lo=low; int h=high; for (k=low;k<high;k++) if ((lo<=middle ) && ((h>high)||(x[lo]<x[h]))){ a[k]=x[lo++]; } else { a[k]=x[h++]; } for (k=low;k<=high;k++){ x[k]=a[k]; } } } But something is wrong. When I run it the output is this: 1 0 3 0 4 0 9 0 What is the problem?

  • IE8 error when using dyanamic form actions

    - by user330711
    Hello all: Please go here to see an iframe based web app. Click on the map of Australia, choose a city, then buy some tickets. Now you will see the cart form located on the lower right corner. The problem is in IE8, I cannot delete checked rows from the table; whereas in other browsers such as FireFox3.6, Opera10, Safari4 and Chrome4, this action is all right. Below is the related javascript. It doesn't use jQuery, as part of the requirement is no framework allowed! And iframes are the my best bet, ajax will simply kill me under this restriction. /* cartForm.js */ function toDeleteRoutes() //this function is executed before form is to be submitted. { if(document.getElementsByClassName('delete_box').length > 0) //there're rows to delete { document.getElementById('cartForm').action ="./deleteRoutes.php"; document.getElementById('cartForm').target ="section4"; return true; //this enables the form to be submitted as usual. } else return false; //there is no more row in table to delete! } function toSendEmail() //this function is executed before form is to be submitted. { document.getElementById('cartForm').action ="./sendEmail.php"; document.getElementById('cartForm').target ="section3"; document.getElementById('delete_btn').disabled = true; //disable delete button now return true; //this enables the form to be submitted as usual. } function toCancelPurchase() { document.getElementById('cartForm').action ="./cancelPurchase.php"; document.getElementById('cartForm').target ="section4"; return true; //this enables the form to be submitted as usual. } I don't know which part is wrong, or this is just because IE8 screws all?

  • write a program that prompts the user to input five decimal numbers : C++

    - by user312309
    This is the question. write a program that prompts the user to input five decimal numbers. the program should then add the five decimal numbers, convert the sum to the nearest integer,m and print the result. This is what I've gotten so far: // p111n9.cpp : Defines the entry point for the console application. // #include <iostream> using namespace std; double a, b , c , d , e, f; int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { cout << "enter 5 decimals: " << endl; cin >> a >> b >> c >> d >> e; f = a + b + c + d + e; return 0; } Now I just need to convert the sum(f) to the nearest integer, m and print the result. How do I do this?

  • logic question about factorials

    - by Syom
    I have a problem and can't solve it alone. My teacher gives me one logic task today, and i'm sure you can help me. How can I count the number of zeroes at the end of factorial(41). (on paper) I understand that it has nothing to do with programing, but I'm sure programers can help me. Thanks in advance.

  • python-wordmatching

    - by challarao
    Write two functions, called countSubStringMatch and countSubStringMatchRecursive that take two arguments, a key string and a target string. These functions iteratively and recursively count the number of instances of the key in the target string. You should complete definitions for def countSubStringMatch(target,key): and def countSubStringMatchRecursive (target, key): For the remaining problems, we are going to explore other substring matching ideas. These problems can be solved with either an iterative function or a recursive one. You are welcome to use either approach, though you may find iterative approaches more intuitive in these cases of matching linear structures.

  • Reading in MIPS external file so another file can use it?

    - by SkyWookie
    Hey all, I'm working on this final thing for my MIPS project and it's deceptively easy. I need to get a procedure (called feed) and let its main driver program use it by reading it in. I know that I'm supposed to use the call code 14 and .globl sym (I think) in order to feed it into the file and have it read it. I just need a basic tutorial or something, as I CANNOT find it on the Internet or in my book (just lists the call code, real helpful). Here's what I know: I need to use read, but I also need a file descriptor (don't know where to get it). I need to put the buffer in $a1 and the length in $a2. Well, that's about it. If there's any decent tutorial you could whip up or if there is one online that I don't see let me know please :). I just need a push in the right direction, I'm sure it can't be too difficult, just can't find any info on it!

  • Weakly connected balanced digraph

    - by user1074557
    How can I prove that if a balanced digraph is weakly connected, then it is also strongly connected? (balanced digraph means that for every node, it's indegree and outdegree is the same and weakly connected means the non-directed version of this graph is connected). What I can think of so far is: if the graph is balanced, it means it is a union of directed cycles. So if I remove any cycle, it will stay balanced. Also each vertex in the cycle has one edge coming into it and one edge leading out of it.. Then I guess I need to use some contradiction or induction to prove that the graph is strongly connected.. That's where I confused.

  • How do you create a program that will ask the user to enter 3 numbers that would display the largest

    - by lobosagwan
    int numbers; int largestNum = 0; Console.WriteLine("Enter numbers : "); numbers=int.Parse(Console.ReadLine()); numbers = 0; for (int i = 0; i < 3; i++) { if (numbers[i] > largestNum) } Console.WriteLine("The largest number is : {0}", largestNum); Console.ReadLine(); this is a similar code, the problem is how to ask the user to enter 3 numbers and display the largest number.

  • C++ Declaring an uninitialized variable without a null constructor

    - by xbonez
    Consider the DUPoint class, whose declaration appears below. Assume this code appears in a file named DUPoint.h: #include <string> class DUPoint { public: DUPoint (int x, int y); int getX () const; int getY () const; void setX (int x); void setY (int y); void print(); private: int x_; int y_; }; Is it true that you cannot declare an uninitialized DUPoint variable with a statement such as DUPoint P; using this class as currently configured because it has no null constructor?
