    i have all my music on my hard drive but its running out of space. i bought an external hard drive, copied all my music over i went into itunes advanced preferences and changed my music location but when i view the itunes music library XML file in notepad, i still see a lot of things pointing to my regular hard drive i didn't check "Keep music files organized" because i didn't want itunes trying to copy everything over from my regular hard drive (because i already did it) is there any other way to simply refresh the music list given a new root directory.

  • Turn Photos and Home Videos into Movies with Windows Live Movie Maker

    Are you looking for an easy way to take your digital photos and videos and turn them into a movie or slideshow? Today we’ll take a detailed look at how to do use Windows Live Movie Maker. Installation Windows Live Movie Maker comes bundled as part of the Windows Live Essentials suite (link below). However, you don’t have to install any of the programs you may not want. Take notice of the You’re almost done screen. Before clicking Continue, be sure to uncheck the boxes to set your search provider and homepage. Adding Pictures and Videos Open Windows Live Movie Maker. You can add videos or photos by simply dragging and dropping them onto the storyboard area. You can also click on the storyboard area or on the Add videos and photos button on the Home tab to browse for videos and photos. Windows Live Movie Maker supports most video, image, and audio file types. Select your files and add click Open to add them to Windows Live Movie Maker. By default WLMM doesn’t allow you to add files from network locations…so check out our article on how to add network support to Windows Live MovieMaker if the files you want to add are on a network drive. Layout All of your added clips will appear in the storyboard area on the right, while the currently selected clip will appear in the preview window on the left. You can adjust the size of the two areas by clicking and dragging the dividing line in the middle.    Make the clips on the storyboard bigger or smaller by clicking on the thumbnail size icon. The slider at the lower right adjusts the zoom time scale.   Previewing your Movie At any time, you can playback your movie and preview how it will look in the Preview window by clicking the space bar, or by pushing the play button under the preview window. You can also manually move the preview bar slider across the storyboard to view the clips as the video progresses. Adjusting Clips on the Storyboard You can click and drag clips on the storyboard to change the order in which the photos and videos appear.   Adding Music Nothing brings a movie to life quite like music. Selecting Add music will add your music to the beginning of the movie. Select Add music at the current point to include it in the movie to the current location of your preview bar slider, then browse for your music clip. WLMM supports many common audio files such as WAV, MP3, M4A, WMA, AIFF, and ASF. The music clip will appear above the video / photos clips on the storyboard.   You can change the location of music clips by clicking and dragging them to a different location on the storyboard. Add Titles, Captions, and Credits To add a Title screen to your movie, click the Title button on the Home tab. Type your title directly into the text box on the preview screen. The title will be placed at the location of the preview slider on the storyboard. However, you can change the location by clicking and dragging title to other areas of the storyboard. On the Format tab, there are a handful of text settings. You can change the font, color, size, alignment,  and transparency. The Adjust group allows you to change the background color, edit the text, and set the length of time the Title will appear in the movie.   The Effects group on the Format tab allows you to select an effect for your title screen. By hovering your cursor over each option, you will get a live preview of how each effect will appear in the preview window. Click to apply any of the effects. For captions, select where you want your caption to appear with the preview slider on the storyboard, then click the captions button on the Home tab. Just like the title, you type your caption directly into the text box on the preview screen, and you can make any adjustments by using the Font and Paragraph, Adjust, and Effects groups above. Credits are done the same as titles and captions, except they are automatically placed at the end of the movie.   Transitions Go to the Animation tab on the ribbon to apply transitions. Select a clip from the storyboard and hover over one of the transition to see it in the preview window. Click on the transition to apply it to the clip. You can apply transitions separately to clips or hold down Ctrl button while clicking to select multiple clips to which to apply the same transition. Pan and zoom effects are also located on the Animations tab, but can be applied to photos only. Like transition, you can apply them individually to a clip or hold down Ctrl button while clicking to select multiple clips to which to apply the same pan and zoom effect. Once applied, you can adjust the duration of the transitions and pan and zoom effects. You can also click the dropdown for additional transitions or effects. Visual Effects Similar to Pan and Zoom and Transitions, you can apply a variety of Visual Effects to individual or multiple clips. Editing Video and Music Note: This does not actually edit the original video you imported into your Windows Live Movie Maker project, only how it appears in your WLMM project. There are some very basic editing tools located on the Home tab. The Rotate left and Rotate right button will adjust any clip that may be oriented incorrectly. The Fit to music button will automatically adjust the duration of the photos (if you have any in your project) to fit the length of the music in your movie. Audio mix allows you to change the volume level   You can also do some slightly more advanced editing from the Edit tab. Select the video clip on the storyboard and click the Trim tool to edit or remove portions of a video clip. Next, click and drag the sliders in the preview windows to select the are you wish to keep. For example, the area outside the sliders is the area trimmed from the movie. The area inside is the section that is kept in the movie. You can also adjust the Start and End points manually on the ribbon.   When you are finished, click Save trim. You can also split your video clips. Move the preview slider to the location in the video clip where you’d like to split it, and select Split. Your video will be split into separate sections. Now you can apply different effects or move them to different locations on the storyboard. Editing Music Clips Select the music clip on the storyboard and then the Options tab on the ribbon. You can adjust the music volume by moving the slider right and left.   You can also choose to have your music clip fade in or out at the beginning and end of your movie. From the Fade in and Fade out dropdowns, select None, Slow, Medium, or Fast. To adjust the sound of your audio clips, click on the Edit tab, select the Video volume button, and adjust the slider. Move it all the way to the left to mute any background noise in your video clips.   AutoMovie As you have seen, Windows Live Movie Maker allows you to add effects, transitions, titles, and more. If you don’t want to do any of that stuff yourself, AutoMovie will automatically add title, credits, cross fade transitions between items, pan and zoom effects to photos, and fit your project to the music. Just select the AutoMovie button on the Home tab. You can go from zero to movie in literally a couple minutes.   Uploading to YouTube You can share your video on YouTube directly from Windows Live Movie Maker. Click on the YouTube icon in the Sharing group on the Home tab. You’ll be prompted for your YouTube username and password. Fill in the details about your movie and click Publish. The movie will be converted to WMV before being uploaded to YouTube. As soon as the YouTube conversion is complete, you’re new movie is live and ready to be viewed. Saving your Movie as a Video File Select the icon at the top left, then select Save movie. As you hover your mouse over each of the options, you will see the output display size, aspect ratio, and estimated file size per minute of video. All of these settings will output your movie as a WMV file. (Unfortunately, the only option is to save a movie as a WMV file.) The only difference is how they are encoded based on preset common settings. The Burn to DVD option also outputs a WMV file, but then opens Windows DVD Maker and walks you through the process of creating and burning a DVD.   If you choose the Burn to DVD option, close this window when the WMV file conversion is complete and the Windows DVD Maker will prompt you to begin. When your movie is finished, it’s time to relax and enjoy.   Conclusion Windows Live Movie Maker makes it easy for the average person to quickly churn out nice looking movies and slideshows from there own pictures and videos. However, long time users of previous editions (formerly called Windows Movie Maker) will likely be disappointed by some features missing in Windows Live Movie Maker that existed in earlier editions.   • disk-to-disk backup without costly backup redundancy?

    A good backup strategy involves a combination of 1) disconnected backups/snapshots that will not be affected by bugs, viruses, and/or security breaches 2) geographically distributed backups to protect against local disasters 3) testing backups to ensure that they can be restored as needed Generally I take an onsite backup daily, and an offsite backup weekly, and do test restores periodically. In the rare circumstance that I need to restore files, I do some from the local backup. Should a catastrophic event destroy the servers and local backups, then the offsite weekly tape backup would be used to restore the files. I don't need multiple offsite backups with redundancy. I ALREADY HAVE REDUNDANCY THROUGH THE USE OF BOTH LOCAL AND REMOTE BACKUPS. I have recovery blocks and par files with the backups, so I already have protection against a small percentage of corrupt bits. I perform test restores to ensure the backups function properly. Should the remote backups experience a dataloss, I can replace them with one of the local backups. There are historical offsite backups as well, so if a dataloss was not noticed for a few weeks(such as a bug/security breach/virus), the data could be restored from an older backup. By doing this, the only scenario that poses a risk to complete data loss would be one where both the local, remote, and servers all experienced a data loss in the same time period. I'm willing to risk that happening since the odds of that trifecta negligibly small, and the data isn't THAT valuable to me. So I hope I have emphasized that I don't need redundancy in my offsite backups because I have covered all the bases. I know this exact technique is employed by numerous businesses. Of course there are some that take multiple offsite backups, because the data is so incredibly valuable that they don't even want to risk that trifecta disaster, but in the majority of cases the trifecta disaster is an accepted risk. I HAD TO COVER ALL THIS BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE DON'T READ!!! I think I have justified my backup strategy and the majority of businesses who use offsite tape backups do not have any additional redundancy beyond what is mentioned above(recovery blocks, par files, historical snapshots). Now I would like to eliminate the use of tapes for offsite backups, and instead use a backup service. Most however are extremely costly for $/gb/month storage. I don't mind paying for transfer bandwidth, but the cost of storage is way to high. All of them advertise that they maintain backups of the data, and I imagine they use RAID as well. Obviously if you were using them to host servers this would all be necessary, but for my scenario, I am simply replacing my offsite backups with such a service. So there is no need for RAID, and absolutely no value in another layer of backups of backups. My one and only question: "Are there online data-storage/backup services that do not use redundancy or offer backups(backups of my backups) as part of their packages, and thus are more reasonably priced?" NOT my question: "Is this a flawed strategy?" I don't care if you think this is a good strategy or not. I know it pretty standard. Very few people make an extra copy of their offsite backups. They already have local backups that they can use to replace the remote backups if something catastrophic happens at the remote site. Please limit your responses to the question posed. Sorry if I seem a little abrasive, but I had some trolls in my last post who didn't read my requirements nor my question, and were trying to go off answering a totally different question. I made it pretty clear, but didn't try to justify my strategy, because I didn't ask about whether my strategy was justifyable. So I apologize if this was lengthy, as it really didn't need to be, but since there are so many trolls here who try to sidetrack questions by responding without addressing the question at hand.

    Is anyone aware of of anybody offering hosted perforce servers? It doesn't have to be free - but preferably not too expensive! My understanding of Perforce is that it's free to use for personal projects, which mine is. Currently I have a perforce server setup on the same machine as the code is on which doesn't offer much security in case of computer failure. If not, can anyone recommend one of the alternative solutions that is similar to Perforce? I have experience of SVN but cannot say I enjoy the experience.

  • How do I create midi data to trigger an Ultrabeat pattern in Logic?

    I've made some Ultrabeat patterns but I can't figure out how to trigger them. I make the pattern on C-1, then I go back to the arrange window and hit record and then hit C1 on my keyboard, and it doesn't play the pattern, it just plays a single note. I have Pattern Mode enabled on Ultrabeat and I'm using a one-shot trigger but I can't seem to trigger my pattern to play at all. What am I doing wrong?

  • My ashx stopped working (Works locally, but not online)

    i have a simple ASHX file that returns pictures upon request (mainly a counter), previously the code simply fetched pre-made pictures(already uploaded and available) and sent them to the requester.. i just modified the code,so it would take a base picture, do some modifications on it, save it to the server, then serve it to the user.. tested it locally and it worked like a charm. however when i uploaded the code to my hosting service (Godaddy..) it didnt work. Can someone point the problem out to me? Note: ASHX worked with me before,so i know the web.config and IIS are handling them properly, however i think i am missing something ..   • Goldwave Autotrim over Command Prompt

    Hi, I have 1 minute wav file recordings. To check whether there is no voice present in the file, I am using Goldwave to trim the silence which lefts the file size very small in few Kbs. This tells me that there is no sound in most part of the file. But I am not able to do this via Command prompt using the Command line utility, Does Goldwave aupport Autotrim Silence through Command Prompt ? If so, what is the command for it ? Thanks Vivek

  • An SVN error (200 OK) when checking out from my online repo

    I'm trying to setup my first repo on my host and am getting this error when I use Tortoise to checkout the project: Error: OPTIONS of 'http://mywebsite.com/svn/myproject': 200 OK (http://mywebsite.com) Here is what I did: 1) ssh into my host and head to /home/myaccnt and 'svnadmin create svn' 2) create my project repo: 'svn mkdir svn/myproject' 3) add files to the repo: cd /home/myaccnt/.../myproject (which has /tags, /branch, /trunk); 'svn import file:///home/myaccnt/svn/myproject' (the big ole list of files being added is seen at this point.) At this point I think that I've setup my repo and imported my project into the repo. So, I'm ready to checkout using TortoiseSVN on my Windows box. So: 4) In the folder I'd like to checkout to, I rightclick and 'SVN Checkout' and then make sure my URL is: http://mywebsite.com/svn/myproject Result? Error: OPTIONS of 'http://mywebsite.com/svn/myproject': 200 OK (http://mywebsite.com) Anyone have any thoughts for me? I'm likely missing something fundemental w/ the structure of my repo or htaccess... or something. Many thanks in advance. -JL

  • Best online course for C#/SQL for a professional engineer

    I know similar questions have been asked, but I've not been able to find information specific to my situation. I'm looking for "continuing education"-type options, specifically a C# and/or SQL course. I'm a software engineering professional with a graduate level computer science degree. So I'm looking for something substantial that will be challenging. I certainly already have me feet wet in both C# and SQL I'm just looking for a more formal training to round out the edges. There is a good chance my company will pay for it if it is reasonably priced so it doesn't have to be free and preferably shouldn't be (a certificate or certification to come out of it would be nice). When I tried Google, all I found were things that sounded like crash courses (like a 3 day course or course for "dummies"), or course that did not seem very credible. Can anyone recommend a course of action for this? Thanks!

Wufoo does not allow storing CC info in their database What is service or other alternative for us to securely store the cc info. The purpose is to have people manually process the registration. Once the payment goes through, we notify the customer and remove the CC info from our database.

    I am just testing an app to get data off our web server, previously I had been using: NSURL, NSURLRequest, NSURLConnection etc. to get the data that I wanted. But I have just noticed that if I swap to using XML I can simply do the following and pass the results to NSXMLParser: NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:@"https://www.fuzzygoat.com/turbine?nbytes=1&fmt=xml"]; Am I right in thinking that if your just after XML this is an acceptable method? It just seems strongly short compared to what I was doing before? gary

  • Cost effective online consumer surveys / panels?

    I am building a Windows based software targeted at consumers, and while I think it's awesome, I'm not sure if my potential customers will. I would like to do some market research to make sure I'm on the right track with the feature set. Unfortunately, I don't have the budget for a large sample size. I understand that I won't be able to get anything near statistical significance on the cheap, but some feedback is better than no feedback I figure. Are there any inexpensive resources for surveying a panel of 100-200 consumers? Thanks!

    How do you parse your user agent strings? I'm looking to get: Browser Browser Version OS OS Version from a user agent string. My app is written in perl and was previously using HTTP::BrowserDetect. It's a bit dated and is no longer maintained. I'm in no way tied to using perl for the actual lookup. I've come to the conclusion that automagic parsing is a lost cause. I was thinking of writing a crud type app to show me a list of unclassified UA's and manually keep them up to date. Does such an resource already exist that I can tap into? It would be awesome if I could make an HTTP call to look up the user agent info. Thanks!

    I need to develop a web interface to collect and validate a range of data from many of my organization's clients. This isn't a single form, but a collection of forms with interdependencies (i.e., field X on form Y is needed if field A was equal to C on form B), and variable length lists (please provide the details for all Xs in your possession). I had a look at the marketing on Microsoft InfoPath and Adobe LiveCycle, but I get the impression that they're principally electronic forms solutions rather than data collection tools. (e.g., If a user has entered their address once, they should never have to see it on a form again). Any suggestions of good tools, applications or domain-specific languages?

  • Hosting a complex online service

    I have an idea for a web-based service. The implementation is very complex. There will be very few users, and the traffice will be fairly low, but the server-side code could require a lot of resources. Ideally I'd need to have as much control over the servers as possible. How should I arrange hosting for this, when it comes time to release it to the public? Should I do the hosting myself, from my own servers? Trouble is, since I'm not quite an expert on .NET hosting, it might take time to learn and I might make big mistakes. The trouble with using a hosting company is, they might steal my idea, or else, it might cost a lot. Since I'm an un-funded startup I don't have a lot of money to throw at this.
