• Why am I not able to create a backup plan for TFS?

  I am trying to create a backup plan using the TFS Power Tools but I keep running into this error message: I have checked that the account has Full Control on the share, I can edit, create and delete files there. • Collaborative Organizations build Organizational Culture

  “A Collaborative organization builds its culture based on the idea of the family or an athletic team.”(Hoefling, 2001) As I grew up, I participated in many different types of clubs, civic organizations, and sports teams.  Now looking back at the more successful undertakings, I can see three commonalities amongst them. They all shared a defined purpose or goal, defined functional roles, and a shared sense of responsibility to the group. Defined Purpose or Goal In order to unit people to work together, they must share a common goal or have a common purpose. An example of this would be the Lions Club International Foundation. There purpose is to help everyone to lead healthier and more productive lives, nurtures the potential of youth, promotes health, serves the elderly, empowers the disabled and helps victims of disasters. This organization holds localized meetings across the world and works in conjunction with other localized clubs within there organization along with other organizations to promote common goals. If there are no common goals for the group, then there is nothing that binds people to the group, and nothing will be done. Defined Functional Roles In order for an organization to work and function as a team, they must have defined roles and everyone must know how their roles are interdependent on each other. Lets shed light on this subject by looking at a football team’s offense.  Each player has an assigned role to play each time the ball is snapped. The offensive line blocks for the running back or quarterback, the quarterback passes the ball to the wide receiver or hands it off to the running back and the running back and wide receivers run with the ball towards the goal line. Each member of this team shares a common goal of scoring a touchdown, but if each team member does not fulfill their assigned roles the offences will collapse and the team will lose yards. This will provide a set back to the teams goal of scoring a touchdown because they potential are then farther away from the goal line.  In addition, if all the players do not know their roles and how they are part of a larger team then even larger yard losses can occur. Shared Sense of Personal Responsibility to the Group Shared responsibility comes with the shared common goals. Each person in the organization must do their part to promote the common shared goal or purpose based on their abilities. A prime example of this is a wrestling team competing in a match. Points are awarded to the team based on how many wins the team achieves in the meet and of that how many wins where won by decision or by pin. If a wrestler pins his opponent the teams will receive 2 points for the win, but if the wrestler wins by decision, then the team only gets one point for the win. So it is the responsibility of each person on the team to not get pinned if they are unable to win the match. • MS project publishing to TFS web portal display

  So, when we initially created our MPP schedule, I made use of indends / subordinates to break down the project by the various stages of the lifecycle, which is fine... no issues there... But now that I'm trying to publish this over to TFS display, it'll only pick up the actual "action items / sub-tasks" seeing as I have resource allocation specified. So for example I have an "Analysis" phase with a few items underneath, and "System Requirements" phase with the same items, so when I publish these to TFS, it won't display the "Parent" distinction between items, so both "Tasks" instances are being published in TFS under the exact same name... So, if I can't do this Automatically, I'll likely have edit each tasks with "Analysis - Item 1", "Analysis - item 2", "SRD - Item 1", "SRD - item 2"... is there a way to do this automatically, or will have to go the manual route??

• Can I name a team with the name of their city to avoid trademark issues?

  I was wondering, if you want to make a NBA game on smartphones, without the license held by EA, the first solution seems to name your teams with a different name, such as "Chicragro Brulls" (this is just for the example), but would it be possible to just call your team with the name of the city, such as "Chicago vs. Dallas" ? I know the first solution was chosen by Pro Evolution Soccer, would you know any other game that don't use a license?

In some cases(mostly scrum projects, i guess), i get "The Webpage can not be found". In other cases- Unable to refresh data for a data connection in the workbook.   Is there a command that will show which file system (ext3, ext4, FAT32, ...) the various partitions and disks are using? Similar to how sudo fdisk -l lists information about disks and partitions? • If a user is part of two TFS security groups, why do they (appear to) receive the lesser security of the two?

  Given two TFS security groups Admins: Contains a set of Windows users Friends: Contains a Windows Security Group (which is also used as a mailing list) However, the people listed as admins are also part of the security group. It appears that when I lock down the Friends group to certain directories in TFS, the people in Admin also lose their privileges. Is there any way for users to receive the maximum security allowed between multiple groups they are included in? Or have I perhaps setup my TFS security groups incorrectly?

  I'm trying to setup folder access to a group so that all members of that group can create/edit/delete files within the folder. # create my group and add a member sudo addgroup dev sudo adduser martyn dev Now, logged in as "martyn", check my user has been added to "dev" group groups martyn martyn : martyn dev Now I want to change the group ownership of my project folder so all members of that group can edit it and files/folders within it. sudo chgrp -R dev myproject Just to check: martyn@localhost:/var/www$ ls -l total 4 drwxrwxr-x 3 dev dev 4096 May 31 15:53 myproject Now here's where it fails. I want to create a file within myproject (logged in as "martyn", a member of "dev"): vi myproject/test ..but when I try to save the file I get the following error: "myproject/test" E212: Can't open file for writing Why, as user "martyn" which is a member of "dev", can I not write this file? Even if I create the file so it exists, change the ownership to "dev" then try to edit and save - I get the same error.

• Ubuntu server 12.04.03 not checking disk partitions on reboot?

  My MOTD is showing: *** /dev/md2 will be checked for errors at next reboot *** *** /dev/md1 will be checked for errors at next reboot *** *** /dev/md3 will be checked for errors at next reboot *** However, a standard sudo shutdown -r now does not appear to check the disks and the message remains. My guess is that the partitions 'should' be checked and that they are not being... so how can I get Ubuntu to check the partitions at reboot and keep things nice and safe? • When will the Unity Greeter begin to look like the propositions from the Design Team?

  The Canonical Design Team gave a rather beautiful login screen mockup for the unity greeter. These designs, in my opinion far exceed the current UI that we have for Quantal (which I think is worse, apart from remote login), and I was led to beleive that these were the official guidelines for the greeter. Are there plans to implement these designs into the Unity Greeter? • Can Visual Studio track the "size" or "severity" of my changes in TFS?

  I'm working on a sizeable project using VS2012 and TFS (also 2012, I think - I didn't set up the server). A lot of my recent tasks have required making very small changes to a lot of files, so I'm quite used to seeing a lot of items in my Pending Changes list. Is there a way to have VS and/or TFS track how much has been changed and let me know when the differences are becoming significant? Similarly, is there a way to quickly highlight where the major changes are when you get the latest version from TFS? It'd really help with tracking down where certain changes have been made without having to go through and compare every file - the difference highlighting tool might be nice, but when you have to use it on a dozen files to find the block you're looking for, you start to wonder if there's a faster way...

• UNC access to TFS SharePoint doesn't work

  We are using TFS2010 with the SharePoint document portal. We are trying to access the files in SharePoint using UNC paths (e.g. \tfs2010\sites\DefaultCollection\MyProject) and it just plain doesn't work. From my workstation, I actually get different behaviours depending on the path. Case 1: Path = \tfs2010\sites\DefaultCollection\MyProject\ Result: windows explorer reports a network error "Windows cannot access \tfs2010\sites\DefaultCollection\MyProject\" Case 2: Path = \tfs2010.mycompany.com\sites\DefaultCollection\MyProject\ Result: Windows Security dialog pops up asking for my username and password. I tried entering all combinations of my windows username and password (with and without the domain before the username), but no matter what, my credentials are not accepted. I have no problems accessing the SharePoint site through the web portal - it's just UNC which doesn't work. There doesn't seem to be anything relevant in the event viewer on the server. Anyone have any idea what could be the problem?

• Does TFS 2010 lock a project collection when it's being cloned?

  We're planning to migrate a project collection currently hosted on TFS 2010 to TFS 2012. We want to keep the current installation running while resolving any issues that might arise, so we need to copy the current project collection to the new server. However, TFS doesn't allow us to attach a restored database backup directly. The database first must be detached from the original TFS installation. We can get around that limitation by cloning the project collection and detaching the clone, but we're not sure whether that would also impact the original project collection. Does TFS lock the original project collection while it's being cloned?

• My new hard drive won't automount on boot

  I installed a new hard drive right before installing the new Ubuntu 11.10 by reformatting, not upgrading. I was able to mount my drive, and partition it. It's a 1TB, and I was able to transfer all of my music, and videos to it. For some reason, it won't mount on boot, and I can't figure out how to manually mount it afterwards either. • TFS 2012 or TFS Azure (Preview)

  We want to migrate our current TFS 2010 solution that's hosted today in one of our own servers to TFS 2012 hosted somewhere else. We don't want to handle the servers any more, and therefor are looking at alternatives. TFS preview / Azure is one alternative, hosted in the cloud, but I'm not that happy with forcing users to use live id, and we don't have an AD. My second thought was to create a Azure virtual mashine, and there install and host TFS 2012. Is there any downsides with this? Compared to the price of bying a VPS this is cheap and feels reliable in Azure? Do you have any other ideas?

  I checked this question, I got the same message including the mounting thing and press S or M, I did what the guys suggested doing in the terminal (including this) but in 2 of the commands I was denied the entry and another was not found-something like that, so how can i solve this? do you know other commands I should use, or should I reinstall Ubuntu without my assigning the 2.x MB of the tiny partition (/dev/sda5), during installation, to swap as I did? (I deleted windows 7 to install and use Ubuntu only.)

• When one DC crashes, TFS 2012 stops working

  We have two Windows 2008 domain controllers. We installed the second DC only a few months ago. We also have a TFS 2012 server on the network. Today, when the older DC crashed, TFS stopped working completely. Local users received messages such as "You are not authorized to access ServerName\Collection". Remote users received messages such as "The server was used in your last session, but it might be offline or unreachable". So my question is, why did TFS not use the second, newer DC instead of just crashing along with the first DC?

• Project not publishing start/finish date for custom TFS work items

  I've got a TFS 2012 project set up with custom work items, that include Start and Finish date read-only fields (Microsoft.VSTS.Scheduling.StartDate and FinishDate). When I publish one of those custom work items from within Office Project, it does not populate those fields the same way as when I publish a Task work item (builtin TFS work item). I've looked at the transitions in the work items, and also the TFS project field mapping XML file but can't find anything that explains the difference in behaviour. What am I missing?

  I am trying to install ubuntu onto my flash drive using the instructions from the website, http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/create-a-usb-stick-on-mac-osx , and after step 8, the terminal asks for my password, which it accepts and then pops u this error message, dd: /dev/rdisk1bs=1m: Operation not supported. I have also tried making the last m in that statement capital and then the system does not ask me for my password but the error message still pops up. What is happening and why?

• How do I get 12.04 to recognize swap partition so that I can hibernate?

  I justed installed 12.04 and used gparted to erase and enlarge my swap partition. When I rebooted, gparted said that the file partition for the swap was unknown. Gparted doesn't let me change the file partition to "linux-swap". It does let me change it to NTFS, but when I reboot, it goes back to "unknown". Thanks in advance for your help.   My 1TB USB 3.0 was working fine earlier in Ubuntu as well as Windows. But lately it is not at all being detected in Ubuntu. It still works fine in Windows. But the external one which should be /dev/sdc is not even being shown though it is connected and the LED on the HDD is glowing. Someone had suggested adding blacklist uas to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf. Tried that as well. But still not working. Can someone help me out.
