  • samsung printer SCX 5737FW on Ubuntu 11.10

    - by Pepe
    can anyone please help? I am trying to install samsung printer SCX 5737FW on Ubuntu 11.10, but when I plug in the usb cable it tries to look for the driver, but can't find it. Indeed the webpage http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/print-solutions/print-solutions/mono-multi-function-products/SCX-5737FW/SEE-spec tells me that the printer is supported up to Ubuntu 10. This true because it installs perfectly on my other machine with ubuntu 9. Can anyone help please? Thanks

  • Ubuntu 14.04LTS Ethernet Driver Needed for desktop

    - by 321sos
    I have just installed Ubuntu 14.04 and I need to install an Ethernet driver. When on windows 7 the machine used the Atheros AR8152 Ethernet driver. I have looked at other similar questions on this site, but the solutions never worked out for me as the solutions were mainly aimed towards laptops that had a wireless internet connection to retrieve updates. I cant find any driver packages for Linux so I really need some help. Thanks

  • Looking for an algorithm to connect dots - shortest route

    - by e4ch
    I have written a program to solve a special puzzle, but now I'm kind of stuck at the following problem: I have about 3200 points/nodes/dots. Each of these points is connected to a few other points (usually 2-5, theoretical limit is 1-26). I have exactly one starting point and about 30 exit points (probably all of the exit points are connected to each other). Many of these 3200 points are probably not connected to neither start nor end point in any way, like a separate net, but all points are connected to at least one other point. I need to find the shortest number of hops to go from entry to exit. There is no distance between the points (unlike the road or train routing problem), just the number of hops counts. I need to find all solutions with the shortest number of hops, and not just one solution, but all. And potentially also solutions with one more hop etc. I expect to have a solution with about 30-50 hops to go from start to exit. I already tried: 1) randomly trying possibilities and just starting over when the count was bigger than a previous solution. I got first solution with 3500 hops, then it got down to about 97 after some minutes, but looking at the solutions I saw problems like unnecessary loops and stuff, so I tried to optimize a bit (like not going back where it came from etc.). More optimizations are possible, but this random thing doesn't find all best solutions or takes too long. 2) Recursively run through all ways from start (chess-problem-like) and breaking the try when it reached a previous point. This was looping at about a length of 120 nodes, so it tries chains that are (probably) by far too long. If we calculate 4 possibilities and 120 nodes, we're reaching 1.7E72 possibilities, which is not possible to calculate through. This is called Depth-first search (DFS) as I found out in the meantime. Maybe I should try Breadth-first search by adding some queue? The connections between the points are actually moves you can make in the game and the points are how the game looks like after you made the move. What would be the algorithm to use for this problem? I'm using C#.NET, but the language shouldn't matter.

  • What is wrong with my gtkrc file?

    - by PP
    I have written following gtkrc file from some other theme gtkrc file. This theme is normal theme with buttons using pixmap theme engine. I have also given background image to GtkEntry. Problem is that, When i use this theme my buttons doesn't show text one them and my entry box does not show cursor. Plus in engine "pixmap" tag I need to specify image name with it's path as I have already mentioned pixmap_path on the top of rc file but why I still need to specify the path in file = "xxx" # gtkrc file. pixmap_path "./backgrounds:./icons:./buttons:./emotions" gtk-button-images = 1 #Icon Sizes and color definitions gtk-icon-sizes = "gtk-small-toolbar=16,16:gtk-large-toolbar=24,24:gtk-button=16,16" gtk-toolbar-icon-size = GTK_ICON_SIZE_SMALL_TOOLBAR gtk_color_scheme = "fg_color:#000000\nbg_color:#848484\nbase_color:#000000\ntext_color:#000000\nselected_bg_color:#f39638\nselected_fg_color:#000000\ntooltip_bg_color:#634110\ntooltip_fg_color:#ffffff" style "theme-default" { xthickness = 10 ythickness = 10 GtkEntry::honors-transparent-bg-hint = 0 GtkMenuItem::arrow-spacing = 20 GtkMenuItem::horizontal-padding = 50 GtkMenuItem::toggle-spacing = 30 GtkOptionMenu::indicator-size = {11, 5} GtkOptionMenu::indicator-spacing = {6, 5, 4, 4} GtkTreeView::horizontal_separator = 5 GtkTreeView::odd_row_color = "#efefef" GtkTreeView::even_row_color = "#e3e3e3" GtkWidget::link-color = "#0062dc" # blue GtkWidget::visited-link-color = "#8c00dc" #purple GtkButton::default_border = { 0, 0, 0, 0 } GtkButton::child-displacement-x = 0 GtkButton::child-displacement-y = 1 GtkWidget::focus-padding = 0 GtkRange::trough-border = 0 GtkRange::slider-width = 19 GtkRange::stepper-size = 19 GtkScrollbar::min_slider_length = 36 GtkScrollbar::has-secondary-backward-stepper = 1 GtkPaned::handle_size = 8 GtkMenuBar::internal-padding = 0 GtkTreeView::expander_size = 13 #15 GtkExpander::expander_size = 13 #17 GtkScale::slider-length = 35 GtkScale::slider-width = 17 GtkScale::trough-border = 0 GtkWidget::link-color = "#0062dc" GtkWidget::visited-link-color = "#8c00dc" #purple WnckTasklist::fade-overlay-rect = 0 WnckTasklist::fade-loop-time = 5.0 # 5 seconds WnckTasklist::fade-opacity = 0.5 # final opacity #makes menu only overlap border GtkMenu::horizontal-offset = -1 #removes extra padding at top and bottom of menus.   • General Question About WPF Control Behavior and using Invoke

    - by Phil Sandler
    I have been putting off activity on SO because my current reputation is "1337". :) This is a question of "why" and not "how". By default, it seems that WPF does not set focus to the first control in a window when it's opening. In addition, when a textbox gets focus, by default it does not have it's existing text selected. So basically when I open a window, I want focus on the first control of the window, and if that control is a textbox, I want it's existing text (if any) to be selected. I found some tips online to accomplish each of these behaviors, and combined them. The code below, which I placed in the constructor of my window, is what I came up with: Loaded += (sender, e) => { MoveFocus(new TraversalRequest(FocusNavigationDirection.Next)); var textBox = FocusManager.GetFocusedElement(this) as TextBox; if (textBox != null) { Action select = textBox.SelectAll; //for some reason this doesn't work without using invoke. Dispatcher.Invoke(DispatcherPriority.Loaded, select); } }; So, my question. Why does the above not work without using Dispatcher.Invoke? Is something built into the behavior of the window (or textbox) cause the selected text to be de-selected post-loading? Maybe related, maybe not--another example of where I had to use Dispatcher.Invoke to control the behavior of a form: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2602979/wpf-focus-in-tab-control-content-when-new-tab-is-created

  • JQuery DatePicker - pop calendar dialog on 'OnSelect' of another datepicker

    - by sajanyamaha
    I have two JQuery datepickers to select 'StartDate' and 'EndDate'.My requirement is to automatically popup the end date calendar after startDate has been selected. I have tried all the steps in COMMENTED HERE. The code here succesfully triggers the focus of 'EndDate' calendar,but it displays for a second and hides off. $(document).ready(function() { //Runs when tab is loaded var dateFormat = "dd/mm/yy"; var today=new Date(); today.setMonth(today.getMonth()-1); $("#ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_datepicker1").datepicker({ minDate: 0, dateFormat:dateFormat, //maxDate: '+12M +31D', onSelect: function(dateText, inst){ var the_date = new Date($.datepicker.parseDate(dateFormat,dateText)); //var end=(the_date.getDate()+1) + '/' + (the_date.getMonth()+1) + '/' + the_date.getFullYear(); $("#ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_datepicker2").datepicker('option', 'minDate', the_date); // TRIED ALL THESE //document.getElementById('ui-datepicker-div').style.display = 'block'; //document.getElementById('ui-datepicker-div').style.left = '635.5px'; //$("#ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_datepicker2").datepicker("show"); //$("#ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_datepicker2").datepicker(); //$("#ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_datepicker2").focus(); //$('#foo').slideUp(300).delay(800).fadeIn(400); //$("#ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_datepicker2").trigger("focus"); $('#ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_datepicker2').focus(); } }); $("#ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_datepicker2").datepicker({ //maxDate: '+12M +31D', dateFormat:dateFormat, onSelect: function(dateText, inst){ } }); });

  • Button Click Event Getting Lost

    - by AlishahNovin
    I have a Menu and Submenu structure in Silverlight, and I want the submenu to disappear when the parent menu item loses focus - standard Menu behavior. I've noticed that the submenu's click events are lost when a submenu item is clicked, because the parent menu item loses focus and the submenu disappears. It's easier to explain with code: ParentMenuBtn.Click += delegate { SubMenu.Visibility = (SubMenu.Visibility == Visibility.Visible) ? SubMenu.Collapsed : SubMenu.Visible; }; ParentMenuBtn.LostFocus += delegate { SubMenu.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; }; SubMenuBtn.Click += delegate { throw new Exception("This will never be thrown."); }; In my example, when SubMenuBtn is clicked, the first event that triggers is ParentMenuBtn.LostFocus(), which hides the container of SubMenuBtn. Once the container's visibility collapses, the Click event is never triggered. I'd rather avoid having to hide the sub-menu each time, but I'm a little surprised that the Click event is never triggered as a result... I can't put any checks inside the LostFocus() event to see if my SubMenuBtn has focus, because it does not gain focus until after the LostFocus() event is called. In other words, SubMenuBtn.IsFocused = false when LostFocus() is triggered. Anyone have any thoughts about this?

  • Don't fire onfocus when selecting text?

    - by Casey Hope
    I'm writing a JavaScript chatting application, but I'm running into a minor problem. Here is the HTML structure: <div id="chat"> <div id="messages"></div> <textarea></textarea> </div> When the user clicks/focuses on the chat box, I want the textbox to be automatically focused. I have this onfocus handler on the chat box: chat.onfocus = function () { textarea.focus(); } This works, but the problem is that in Firefox, this makes it impossible to select text in the messages div, since when you try to click on it, the focus shifts to the textarea. How can I avoid this problem? (Semi-related issues: In Chrome, textarea.focus() doesn't seem to shift the keyboard focus to the textarea; it only highlights the box. IE8 does not seem to respond to the onfocus at all when clicking, even if it tabindex is set. Any idea why?)

  • How do I store complex objects in javascript?

    - by Colen
    Hello, I need to be able to store objects in javascript, and access them very quickly. For example, I have a list of vehicles, defined like so: { "name": "Jim's Ford Focus", "color": "white", isDamaged: true, wheels: 4 } { "name": "Bob's Suzuki Swift", "color": "green", isDamaged: false, wheels: 4 } { "name": "Alex's Harley Davidson", "color": "black", isDamaged: false, wheels: 2 } There will potentially be hundreds of these vehicle entries, which might be accessed thousands of times. I need to be able to access them as fast as possible, ideally in some useful way. For example, I could store the objects in an array. Then I could simply say vehicles[0] to get the Ford Focus entry, vehicles[1] to get the Suzuki Swift entry, etc. However, how do I know which entry is the Ford Focus? I want to simply ask "find me Jim's Ford Focus" and have the object returned to me, as fast as possible. For example, in another language, I might use a hash table, indexed by name. How can I do this in javascript? Or, is there a better way? Thanks.

  • wanted to extend jQuery to handle a custom enter key event based on tabindex

    I write the following code to handle when the enter key pressed an with few validation like if it is a textarea allow only four lines and if the value is empty, focus on itself. var temp = 1; function getLines(id) { return temp=temp+id; } $("#theform").keypress(function(e){ var key = e.charCode ? e.charCode : e.keyCode ? e.keyCode : 0; if (key == 13) { var $targ = $(e.target); var tindex = $targ.attr("tabindex"); var count =1; var focusNext = false; var allowedNumberOfLines = 4; if ($targ.is("textarea") && !$targ.is(":button,:submit")) { var lines= getLines(count); if (lines > allowedNumberOfLines) { $("#login_error").css('background', '#F7F77C').fadeIn(1000).html("Only "+allowedNumberOfLines+" Lines Allowed").fadeOut(1000); tindex++; $("[tabindex=" + tindex + "]").focus(); return false; } } else if($targ.val() =='' || $targ.val() == "undefined") { $("[tabindex=" + tindex + "]").focus(); return false; } else if($targ.val() !='' || $targ.val() != "undefined") { tindex++; $("[tabindex=" + tindex + "]").focus(); return false; } } }); Is there any way to make it a custom function so that i can just call the function like $('theform').returnPress();

  • Any guidelines for handling the Headset and Bluetooth AVRC transport controls in Android 2.2

    - by StefanK
    I am trying to figure out what is the correct (new) approach for handling the Intent.ACTION_MEDIA_BUTTON in Froyo. In pre 2.2 days we had to register a BroadcastReceiver (either permanently or at run-time) and the Media Button events would arrive, as long as no other application intercepts them and aborts the broadcast. Froyo seems to still somewhat support that model (at least for the wired headset), but it also introduces the registerMediaButtonEventReceiver, and unregisterMediaButtonEventReceiver methods that seem to control the "transport focus" between applications. During my experiments, using registerMediaButtonEventReceiver does cause both the bluetooth and the wired headset button presses to be routed to the application's broadcast receiver (the app gets the "transport focus"), but it looks like any change in the audio routing (for example unplugging the headset) shits the focus back to the default media player. What is the logic behind the implementation in Android 2.2? What is correct way to handle transport controls? Do we have to detect the change in the audio routing and try to re-gain the focus? This is an issue that any 3rd party media player on the Android platform has to deal with, so I hope that somebody (probably a Google Engineer) can provide some guidelines that we can all follow. Having a standard approach may make headset button controls a bit more predictable for the end users. Stefan

  • Error 550 Mail Relay Message Could Not Be Sent

    - by mraliks
    I'm not sure if this is the right area to ask, but here we go. I have a client who has a couple websites on a Windows server with MailEnable as the mail manager. Any emails being sent from the server work great, except when sending to some domains, the message does not go through due to the following error: 12/13/11 01:15:56 ME-I0026: [86476200E5834227A819E6E63E0EFDA2.MAI] Sending message 12/13/11 01:15:57 ME-IXXXX: [86476200E5834227A819E6E63E0EFDA2.MAI] Remote server returned a response indicating a permanent error. Server Response: (550 Relaying not allowed**) 12/13/11 01:15:57 ME-E0036: [86476200E5834227A819E6E63E0EFDA2.MAI] MAIL FROM command Failed. Can anyone give me some leads on how to correct the settings to allow emails to go through properly? In particular, the emails are not going through to a Network Solutions email account and Network Solutions has not been very helpful thus far. In addition, can a domain's DNS settings affect this error? Currently, the domains are hosted by Network Solutions and use the Network Solutions email service to send/receive email. The server is located with a different company and the Domains' DNS points to it. Which mail related DNS entries are allowed or not allowed in this scenario? Thanks

  • SQL SERVER – Example of Performance Tuning for Advanced Users with DB Optimizer

    - by Pinal Dave
    Performance tuning is such a subject that everyone wants to master it. In beginning everybody is at a novice level and spend lots of time learning how to master the art of performance tuning. However, as we progress further the tuning of the system keeps on getting very difficult. I have understood in my early career there should be no need of ego in the technology field. There are always better solutions and better ideas out there and we should not resist them. Instead of resisting the change and new wave I personally adopt it. Here is a similar example, as I personally progress to the master level of performance tuning, I face that it is getting harder to come up with optimal solutions. In such scenarios I rely on various tools to teach me how I can do things better. Once I learn about tools, I am often able to come up with better solutions when I face the similar situation next time. A few days ago I had received a query where the user wanted to tune it further to get the maximum out of the performance. I have re-written the similar query with the help of AdventureWorks sample database. SELECT * FROM HumanResources.Employee e INNER JOIN HumanResources.EmployeeDepartmentHistory edh ON e.BusinessEntityID = edh.BusinessEntityID INNER JOIN HumanResources.Shift s ON edh.ShiftID = s.ShiftID; User had similar query to above query was used in very critical report and wanted to get best out of the query. When I looked at the query – here were my initial thoughts Use only column in the select statements as much as you want in the application Let us look at the query pattern and data workload and find out the optimal index for it Before I give further solutions I was told by the user that they need all the columns from all the tables and creating index was not allowed in their system. He can only re-write queries or use hints to further tune this query. Now I was in the constraint box – I believe * was not a great idea but if they wanted all the columns, I believe we can’t do much besides using *. Additionally, if I cannot create a further index, I must come up with some creative way to write this query. I personally do not like to use hints in my application but there are cases when hints work out magically and gives optimal solutions. Finally, I decided to use Embarcadero’s DB Optimizer. It is a fantastic tool and very helpful when it is about performance tuning. I have previously explained how it works over here. First open DBOptimizer and open Tuning Job from File >> New >> Tuning Job. Once you open DBOptimizer Tuning Job follow the various steps indicates in the following diagram. Essentially we will take our original script and will paste that into Step 1: New SQL Text and right after that we will enable Step 2 for Generating Various cases, Step 3 for Detailed Analysis and Step 4 for Executing each generated case. Finally we will click on Analysis in Step 5 which will generate the report detailed analysis in the result pan. The detailed pan looks like. It generates various cases of T-SQL based on the original query. It applies various hints and available hints to the query and generate various execution plans of the query and displays them in the resultant. You can clearly notice that original query had a cost of 0.0841 and logical reads about 607 pages. Whereas various options which are just following it has different execution cost as well logical read. There are few cases where we have higher logical read and there are few cases where as we have very low logical read. If we pay attention the very next row to original query have Merge_Join_Query in description and have lowest execution cost value of 0.044 and have lowest Logical Reads of 29. This row contains the query which is the most optimal re-write of the original query. Let us double click over it. Here is the query: SELECT * FROM HumanResources.Employee e INNER JOIN HumanResources.EmployeeDepartmentHistory edh ON e.BusinessEntityID = edh.BusinessEntityID INNER JOIN HumanResources.Shift s ON edh.ShiftID = s.ShiftID OPTION (MERGE JOIN) If you notice above query have additional hint of Merge Join. With the help of this Merge Join query hint this query is now performing much better than before. The entire process takes less than 60 seconds. Please note that it the join hint Merge Join was optimal for this query but it is not necessary that the same hint will be helpful in all the queries. Additionally, if the workload or data pattern changes the query hint of merge join may be no more optimal join. In that case, we will have to redo the entire exercise once again. This is the reason I do not like to use hints in my queries and I discourage all of my users to use the same. However, if you look at this example, this is a great case where hints are optimizing the performance of the query. It is humanly not possible to test out various query hints and index options with the query to figure out which is the most optimal solution. Sometimes, we need to depend on the efficiency tools like DB Optimizer to guide us the way and select the best option from the suggestion provided. Let me know what you think of this article as well your experience with DB Optimizer. Please leave a comment. It was interesting to hear definite patterns emerging from those conversations: “BPM is a journey”, “experiences to share”, “our organization now understands what BPM is”, and my favorite (with some caveats): “BPM is like wine tasting, once you start, you want to try more”. These customers have started their journey, climbed up the learning curve, and reached a vantage point that allows them to see their next BPM destination. They see the next few processes they are going to tackle and improve with BPM. These processes/destinations target both horizontal processes where BPM replaces or coordinates manual activities, and critical industry processes that the company needs to improve to compete and deliver increasing value. Each new destination generates value, allowing the organization to reduce the cost of manual processes that were not supported by apps/custom development, and increase efficiency of end-to-end processes partially covered by apps/custom dev. The question we wanted to answer is how to help organizations experience deeper success with BPM, by increasing their awareness of the potential for reaching new targets, and equipping them with the right tools. We decided that we needed to identify destinations, and plot routes to show the fastest path to those destinations. In the end we want to enable customers to reach “Process Excellence”: continuously set new targets and consistently and efficiently reach them. The result is Oracle Process Accelerators (PA), solutions built using the rich functionality in Oracle BPM Suite. PAs offers a rapidly expanding list of exciting destinations. Our launch of the latest installment of Process Accelerators at Oracle Open World includes new Industry-focused solutions such as Public Sector Incident Reporting and Financial Services Loan Origination, and improved other horizontal PAs, including Travel Request Management, Document Routing and Approval, and Internal Service Requests. Just before OOW we had extended the Oracle deployment of Travel Request Management, riding the enthusiastic response from early adopters among travelers (employees), management and support (approvers). “Getting there first” means being among the first to extract value from the PA approach, while acquiring deeper insights into the customers’ perspective. This is especially noteworthy when it comes to PAs, a set of solutions designed to be quickly deployed and iteratively improved by customers. The OOW launch has generated immediate feedback from customers, non-customers, analysts, and partners. They all confirmed that both Business and IT at organizations benefit from PAs when it comes to exploring the potential for BPM to improve their business processes. PAs help customers visualize what can be done with BPM, and PAs are made to be extended: you can see your destination, change the path to fit your needs, and deploy. We're discovering new destinations/processes that the market wants us to support, generic enough across industries and within industries. We'll keep on building sets of requirements, deliver functional design, construct solutions using Oracle BPM, and test them not only functionally but for performance, scalability, clustering, making them robust, product-quality. Delivering BPM solutions with product-grade quality is the equivalent of following a tried-and-tested path on a map. Do you know of existing destinations in your industry? If yes, we can draw a path to innovative processes together.
