  So I found out that the cable company use the DHCP to assign the public ip address dynamically. So a subscriber's public facing ip address can change during the length of their subscription. Now what if you remove DHCP on a particular computer, which you plan to use as a web server, so that the machine has a static, unchanging IP address. If the public ip address was to change, would this confuse the Network Address Translation (NAT) and cause some sort of disruption? Please answer in layman terms, as I'm still grasping concepts here. thanks.

  I would like to set all virtualhosts on my server down for maintenance for some time. The temporary page should contain something like sorry, the page www.xxx.com is down for maintenance. you can see the cached version here: Then the trick: the user should then see the cached page from a cache like googlecache or similar for the requested page as long as the server is down. This would show the correct content on pages, that are static anyway and give the visitor the needed content in many cases, while I can shut down mysql and other services that would usually be needed to show that pages. How can I set a global page on all virtualhosts, that parses the original requested URL through PHP?

• Disable static content caching in IIS 7

  I'm a developer having what should be a relatively simple problem in IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008 R2. The problem is that IIS 7 is overzealously caching all static content on the server. It's caching all .html and .js content and not noticing when the content changes on disk unless I iisreset. I've tried the following: Deleting the local cache in my browser (I'm 99% positive this is a server caching issue) In IIS Admin in OutputCaching adding an .html extension and unchecking "User mode caching" and unchecking "Kernel-mode caching" In IIS Admin in OutputCaching adding an .html extension and checking "User mode caching" and selecting the radio for "Prevent all caching" In IIS Admin editing Output Cache Feature settings and unchecking "Enable cache" and "Enable kernel cache under OutputCaching. Running "C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config\appcmd set config "SharePoint - 80" -section: system.webServer/caching -enabled:false" Looking through applicationHost.config and disabling anything related to caching I could find. Nothing seems to work. I'm getting very frustrated. Can anyone please help?

  We are using nginx with php-fpm. We plan to make first page static (generate html file). if we have 100 concurrent connections, how we can handle file regeneration? basically we need generate new file index_new.html, then delete index.html, and then move index_new.html to index.html. What happens when index.html file was deleted? User gets 404 error? Or nginx handles file from OS cache? One idea is to tell nginx, that 404 error is index_new.html and then not to move index_new to index, but copy. But i don't like idea about 404 error. Thanks.

• Java: How to make this main thread wait for the new thread to terminate

  I have a java class that creates a process, called child, using ProcessBuilder. The child process generates a lot of output that I am draining on a separate thread to keep the main thread from getting blocked. However, a little later on I need to wait for the output thread to complete/terminate before going on, and I'm not sure how to do that. I think that join() is the usual way to do this but I'm not sure how to do that in this case. • receiving data from serialport stops when main form is minimized or moved

  Sir, I apologize if this is already covered somewhere. I did a search and find something which I have already implemented. I am developing an application which receives data from a device connected via serialport. I am using SerialPort datareceived event to capture data. I am to display data in text boxes of the main form. Data is received frequently. I used Timer to send command to the device, in response device send some data. Timer interval is 100 ms. In every 100 ms interval some command is sent and correspondingly data is received. I used Invoke function to update the GUI elements like TExtbox, labels etc. Everything is fine. All the elements are updating beautifully. But during receiving data if I make any change in main form like moving form, minimizing, maximizing, or clicking somewhere in the form, then data receiving stops. I couldnot find the reason why its happening ? I also changed the timer interval to 200,300,400,500 but same problem is there. Please tell me why its happening? And possible solution... • Windows Server 2008 Static IP Address

  I have Win 2008 Server VM and want to set static IP address so that i can RDP into instead of using VM player (mouse gets out of focus as the size of the VM increases). Now while making the changes i see two TC/IPv6 and TC/IPv4 i try changing the IPaddress from obtain autimatically, but it always goes to "Unidentified Network". If i leave it to automatically obtain IP,i still cannot RDP into it. I have tired disabling TC/IPv6 from reistry. Any other suggestions? BTW the same setting works fine with WIN XP and i can RDP into all Win XP VM's Cheers Gauls

  I have a time log spreadsheet. I have a new sheet for each day. In each sheet, I have a transactional record of how my time was spent. When I start or end a task, I usually type in the time ("11:00 AM" for example). Is there a shortcut to inserting the current time into a field? I'm sure it can be done with a macro, but I'm not very knowledgeable about macros. I'd like to simply highlight a field and hit some sort of shortcut key to insert a static value of the current time. Perhaps it's a problem with responsibility, the Domain Object shouldn't be burdened with saving. It's just quite a neat feature from the Active Record pattern - it would be nice to implement it in some way.

  Apologies if I've got the terminology wrong here—I can't think what this particular idiom would be called. I've been trying to create a Python 3 class that statically declares instances of itself inside itself—sort of like an enum would work. Here's a simplified version of the code I wrote: class Test: A = Test("A") B = Test("B") def __init__(self, value): self.value = value def __str__(self): return "Test: " + self.value print(str(Test.A)) print(str(Test.B)) Writing this, I got an exception on line 2 (A = Test("A")). I assume line 3 would also error if it had made it that far. Using __class__ instead of Test gives the same error. File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> File "<stdin>", line 2, in Test NameError: name 'Test' is not defined Is there any way to refer to the current class in a static context in Python? I could declare these particular variables outside the class or in a separate class, but for clarity's sake, I'd rather not if I can help it. To better demonstrate what I'm trying to do, here's the same example in Java: public class Test { private static final Test A = new Test("A"); private static final Test B = new Test("B"); private final String value; public Test(String value) { this.value = value; } public String toString() { return "Test: " + value; } public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println(A); System.out.println(B); } } This works as you would expect: it prints: Test: A Test: B How can I do the same thing in Python?

• Dynamic to static internal IP address (Snow Leopard server)

  I purchased a new Mac mini server, since my old iMac, which was a server pretty much died. My problem is this. How do I change my internal IP address for my mac mini server to a static address, like 192.168.0.2? Before you guys harp on me, my old server was running Ubuntu Hardy and I only had to map the IP address in the router, which would automatically assign the reserved address through DHCP. Now, I know things are different between the two, but my problem is that the mac is not accepting the assigned IP address or the router just is not assigning. However, every time I have manually changed it on the Mac to an address of my choice, it takes the computer off the Internet. My router is a NetGear WTG624 v2, I believe. I need this to work, so I can utilize Dynamic DNS.

  I am creating a game where where you complete shapes and the area gets filled in. However, if there is an enemy bird within your shape, it will not fill in. I want to make it so that if you do trap a bird within your shape, you will lose a life. How can I write an if statement that pretty much says if the below code doesn't take place, then you lose a life.   I have an account where hundreds of inbound links to their calender are showing up as 404 (they moved their site to a new platform). I would like to make a wildcard redirection of all URLs with a query to their old event calender to land on a new static page, and do the same for their webstore queries. I've tried several variations, but can't seem to get it to work. CASE 1: I need to redirect URLs like these (note the difference between "showDay" and "showWeek"): apps/calendar/showWeek?calID=5107976&year=2011&month=7&day=10 apps/calendar/showDay?calID=5107976&year=2011&month=9&day=10 To: http://domain.com/events/ CASE 2: And also URLs like these: apps/webstore/products/show/1927074 TO: http://subdomain.domain.com/ I can't seem to get the syntax right to take all of the URLS and redirect them. I'm looking for the equivalent of a wildcard like "apps/calendar/*" would give you at a command line. Any help is appreciated!

  I have a dynamic webpage which I want to create a "frozen" copy of. Typically I would do something like wget -m http://example.com, and then put the files in the document root of the web-server. This site however has some dynamic content, including dynamically generated images, for instance http://example.com/company/123/logo This means that in order to mirror the page, I need to Save whatever headers the server currently serves for each URL. This can be done using the wget option --save-headers. Serve the static pages and serve the proper headers for each file. (This I have no idea of how to do.) What is the best way to solve this? Any suggestions are welcome.

  Could someone please help me out with the following scenario: I have a machine that hosts 3 lxc containers, and acts like a router for them. The LXC containers have private ip addresses set on the interfaces that are connected to the host. I want to provide Internet access to the containers and I want to configure the host system so it translates only the addresses that are configured static on the lxc containers interfaces. Should I try to configure the host so it translates each of the 3 private addresses to the public address of the host's interface that is connected to the Internet?

• Static noise coming from my laptop

  Replaced motherboard; speakers; put in an additional fan; but this did not stop the static noise. This was done by inhouse tech. support from Sony. If i turn my speakers mute; the sound is still there! Can't hear it through headphones. I was told it is feedback noise! Now I'm suppose to send my $2,000.00 computer through the mail to get fixed? I'm terrified it'll come back in terrible condition during the travel time? Help?

  Hello everybody experts! My question is pretty simple, but I can't figure it out because I'm pretty noob with these network stuffs. I have a vpn IPsec site2site between 2 lan with different ip classes, LAN A is class C and LAN B is class A. The vpn presents the LAN A to LAN B with the 10.178.51.64/27 segment. The problem is that when I start the vpn connection I cant Ping any 10.174.0.0/24 address(LAN B remote segment) from my LAN A; I think I need some kind of static route. Could u help me out pls? I have ethernet adapter ipv6 set to automatic, however I don't think there connectivity is there. So, how do I enable teredo to get a publicly accessible ipv6 address? Is it possible to claim a static address in teredo, so that every time I connect the address stays the same?

  Hi all, I've made my Logger, that logs a string, a static class with a static so I can call it from my entire project without having to make an instance of it. quite nice, but I want to make it run in a seperate thread, since accessing the file costs time is that possible somehow and what's the best way to do it? • Catching exception in Main() method

  Consider the following simple application: a windows form created by a "new C# windows application" sequence in VS that was modified in a following way: public static void Main() { Application.EnableVisualStyles(); Application.SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault(false); try { Application.Run(new Form1()); } catch (Exception ex) { MessageBox.Show("An unexpected exception was caught."); } } Form1.cs contains the following modifications: private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { throw new Exception("Error"); } If I press F5 in IDE, then, as I expect, I see a message box saying that exception was caught and the application quits. If I go to Debug(or Release)/bin and launch the executable, I see the standard "Unhandled exception" window, meaning that my exception handler doesn't work. Obviously, that has something to do with exception being thrown from a different thread that Application.Run is called from. But the question remains - why the behavior differs depending on whether the application has been run from IDE or from command line? What is the best practice to ensure that no exceptions remain unhandled in the application?

• Serving static media in django application

  I notice that when I reference my java scripts and static image files from my templates, they show up in development, but not from the production server. From development, I access them as such: <img src="/my_proj/media/css/images/collapsed.png" /> but from production, I have to remove the project directory: <img src="/media/css/images/collapsed.png" /> I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong with regard to serving static media. I'm caught between a number of seemingly different options for serving static media in Django. On one hand, it's been recommended that I use django-staticfiles to serve media. On the other I see reference to STATIC_ROOT and STATIC_URL in the documentation (with caveats about use in production). I have small .png files of "plus" and "minus" symbols for use in some of my jQuery scripts. In addition, the scripts themselves need to be referenced. 1) Am I correctly categorizing scripts and site images as static media? 2) What is the best method to access this media (from production)?

• Windows 7 - Static DHCP server address with dynamic IP Address

  Is this possible? On my LAN, I would like to setup the network properties such that the DHCP server's address is static. However, I want that server to hand out the IP Addresses and DNS addresses dynamically. The reason is that some devices on the LAN will try to behave like a DHCP server. For example, we use software to push images to computers on the LAN (our computer software configurations are centrally managed). When that imaging distribution software happens to be running, the machines being imaged will get confused as to which device is the DHCP -- the real one or the machine that is sending them the image. So, to remove the confusion, I would like to setup my Windows 7 images such that the DHCP server address is statically assigned. And then that server would assign the IP Addresses and the DNS addresses dynamically.

• Exclude category from main RSS feed, but not all feeds

  I've got a blog that supplies content to multiple MailChimp newsletters via RSS. The first newsletter works fine, but the second I'm having issues with. The issue I have is that the second newsletter has "hidden" content. This content isn't meant for wide consumption, so it doesn't appear on the frontpage, but is accessible elsewhere on the site. The snafu with this is that not all of this content is hidden, just some of it, while other pieces of content for this newsletter could overlap with the first newsletter. This obviously makes excluding everything problematic, as they could be assigned multiple categories, some of which I wouldn't want hidden. The issue I'm running into is that I have a way to exclude this content from the frontpage, but not from the main RSS feed. I'm using WP Hide Post for this, which allows me to exclude from feed, which in turn removes it from all feeds, including the ones that feed the newsletter. I'm currently using /feed?cat=XXX to reference these feeds. Is there a way to make it so category feeds still work, just the main /feed RSS would exclude it?
