  I'm going to purchase Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E7500 (3M Cache, 2.93 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB) and for motherboard my local vendor suggesting me to purchase Intel DG41RQ MB motherboard and he is also saying if i'm purchasing Intel CPU then purchasing Intel's Own motherboard with intel chipset will give best performance. Is it true? To get good inbuilt graphic I'm thinking to purchase nvidia chipset based motherboard of any other company like Asus, Gigabyte, MSi etc. is it ok? • CentOS Live CD Creation issues

  I am creating my customized CentOS 6.3 Live CD. I am following information given at https://projects.centos.org/trac/livecd/wiki/GetToolset My "livecd-creator" command completes successfully and an ISO image is created. But when I try to boot up my system with this ISO, it goes up to the CentOS blue screen and then the CAPS lock and Scroll Lock LEDs on the keyboard starts flashing. Then from here after, the system takes no input from keyboard and I have to power cycle it and it does the same thing. Could you get me any suggestion why this is causing and possible workaround. • Issue with Capslock key on Laptop

  For some reason my laptop has a mind of its own and the Caps Lock tends to come on whenever it feels like it. I thought it was an software issue from that reasoning, but I later cleared the OS and then reinstalled it hoping to fix the problem, but it didn't. Not only does it do that it also comes on and off whenever the letters A, S, and left shift key are pushed. So I assummed it was a keyboard issue and that the keyboard needs to be replaced, but it has one of those touch pad cap lock buttons also, because even when I press that button it tends to not react. So how can that be fixed with a keyboard replacement or is that connected still?   Note: I've viewed cron: can’t lock /var/run/crond.pid, otherpid may be 3759 but I believe my question is different (but with the same resulting problem.) I'm very new to cron. I setup a script to run a python script every minute to test that everything was working. I did use crontab to accomplish this. It worked great, so I wanted to switch it to run every 4 hour. I changed my * * * * * {...} to * */4 * * * {...} but the job is continues to run every minute. It's been like this for the last hour or so. When I attempt to run cron restart (thinking that would solve the problem), I receive the following error message: cron: can't lock /var/run/crond.pid, otherpid may be 2311: Resource temporarily unavailable Is my cron syntax wrong? And why might I not be able to restart cron?

• How do I log which process is deleting a file on Windows XP?

  I'm having an issue with a file getting deleted seemingly randomly throughout the day. The vendor of the software whose file is getting deleete says that another piece of software installed on the computer is deleting it, while the other software's vendor says the opposite. I've tried using Process Monitor so I can pinpoint exactly what's deleting it, but even when filtered specifically to that file, createfile operations are being triggered a few times a second, and I can't seem to filter it to deletions specifically. Is there a tool or script I can use to specifically monitor deletion attempts on a single file?

• Locking down a server for shared internet hosting.

  Basically I control several servers and I only host either static websites or scripts which I have designed, so I trust them up to a point. However, I have a few customers who want to start using scripts such as Wordpress or many others - and they want full control over their account. I have started to do the basics - like on php.ini, I have locked it down and restricted commands such as proc, however, there is obviously a lot more I can do. right now, using NTFS permissions, I am trying to lock down the server by running Application Pools and individual sites in their own user, however I feel like I am hitting brick walls... (My old question on Server Fault). At the moment, the only route I can think of is either to implement an off the shelf control panel - which will be expensive and quite frankly, over the top, or look at the Microsoft guide - which is really for an entire infrastructure, not for someone who just wants to lock down a few servers. Does anyone have any guides that can put me on the correct path?

  I keep a copy of a Subversion Repository on a USB memory stick that is formatted with FAT32. I am using TortoiseSVN on XP and command line svn 1.6.x on Ubuntu and OSX with this memory stick. I notice that I need to do an svn cleanup just about every time or updates and commits will not work. I routinely have errors with .lock and *.svn/text-base/** files getting corrupted. Errors tend to be parameter is incorrect or lock file can not be read Sometimes svn cleanup works and sometimes chflags -R nouchg * Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

• Equivalent of LogRotate for Windows?

  We have a huge logfile being written by a vendor's application. Let's assume the vendor won't do anything that we ask. Is there any way of rotating that logfile somehow? We're looking at about 300 MB an hour being written - I'd much rather chunk that into 10 MB pieces, and let anything older than a day or over 1000 files fall off a cliff. (I know I know, possible duplicate of How do you rotate apache logs on windows without interrupting service? ) Aha - the Chomp log was dead, but searching for "chomp logrotate brought me to it's new site. I'll give it a try tomorrow and reply if I like it. I'd still like to hear about software anyone else is using that works for this.

If I run service php-fcgi start & and then ps aux, I see the php-cgi process running bound to the socket. I see the start command stop only when I execute service php-fcgi stop. How do I solve this blocking issue? I have tried adding an & at the end of the line spawning the daemon. But other scripts do not seem to be doing this. This is the most complicated script I am attempting to modify yet :-( How do I get the script to display the green [ OK ]? I checked scripts like httpd and saw that all they were doing was something as shown below. But I never see a green [ OK ] when I execute php-fcgi. I also discovered that putting echo_success with functions sourced displays the green [ OK ] but I do not see any other scripts in the /etc/rc.d/init.d/ executing echo_success or echo_failure. • Manually start screensaver with password protect

  Windows 7 I wish to manually lock the computer so I placed a shortcut to scrnsave.exe on the desktop. (I do not want the user to use Ctrl+Alt+Del -- Lock This Computer for various reasons) Problem is that when double-clicked, the screen saver starts but it's not password protected. However, in Personalization -- Screen Saver, that same screen saver is the selected one and it IS configured to display logon screen upon resume. And that works when Windows starts the screen saver. So how can I cause "On resume, display logon screen" behavior by manually starting a screen saver? (Scripting is an option if I know what to do.)

• Windows 7 login automically puts "IIIII....." in password, so it is impossible for me to login?

  I have no idea why this is happening. I have ran multiple malware programs, I have run anti-virus programs, I even restored to an early point in time. The keyboard letter "I" doesn't appear to be stuck, I am using an external keyboard by the way. When I reboot the computer and get to the login screen, when I press ctrl-alt-del to login, it the password textbox starts putting "IIIIIIIIIIII......", it only stops when I bang on the keyboard. I also noticed at one point that my caps lock on turned caps off and caps lock off turned caps on and some other weird behavior. I have tried search online for similar issues, but no luck.

• SSL certificates and whether a wildcard common name will support domain.com

  Sorry, if this is very vendor specific but I purchased an inexpensive SSL Cert from GoDaddy. Right now everything on production is hosted off of www.domain.com. When specifying the common name would a wildcard (ie *.domain.com) cover the case of a lack of a third-level domain such as domain.com? Just to be sure, I made it for www.domain.com rather than a wildcard. If it matters, I will be using with nginx and a mod_passenger. If I want to cover everything including domain.com and staging.domain.com, www.domain.com etc, would a wildcard be the proper cert? Does the inexpensive godaddy cert (12.99 / year) cover wildcard certs (it didn't seem to for me)? Again, sorry for asking vendor specific questions and thx in advance. thx

  My client is RDP 6.1 (On Windows XP SP3) and Server is Windows Server 2003. I have installed an SSL certificate on server for RDP. In the RDP settings (General tab), the Encryption method is set to SSL/TLS 1.0 and Encryption level is set to "Client Compatible". I have following questions In this case is it guaranteed that all communication is encrypted even when I remote login to the server? I mean pwd is encrypted Does RDP always use some kind of encryption even if there is no SSL certificate installed on the server? In this case I do not see security lock in the connection bar. When I set encryption level to "High" then I see security lock. I do believe that communication is both cases will be encrypted. Is it true? Please reply to my questions Thanks in advance Kumar

• emacs does not open a file from argument and syntax highlight does not work

  In my latest ubuntu box, When I type for example emacs ~/.bashrc, Emacs will start but not open .bashrc. This is true for any file I pass in. I've used Emacs for several years, and have never experienced this problem before. I added (global-font-lock-mode 1);; to my .emacs file, and Emacs does recognize it, for example. "(C++/; Abbrev)", but it won't do syntax highlighting. If you can solve any of these problems, it will be very appreciated.   Adapting some code from a linux forum, I've added a service script to /etc/init.d on my ubuntu natty server to start/stop/restart node.js It literally was working the first day I made it, but then today, after viewing my website this morning, the server threw a 404, and upon further inspection, the node.js process was gone. So I went to start the service again, only this time, node.js didn't start at all, and ever since I haven't been able to get my service script working. • What data should I (can I) gather to prove a .net bug in third party software?

  Our users are using a third-party system and every so often - a user might go all day without this happening, other days they may see it two or three times in seven hours - a red x will appear on screen rather than a button, field, or control. This is a .net system. Looking online I can see that this is a .net error. Problem is, our devs didn't write it, and the vendor wants proof that the problem resides with their system, not our PCs. What can we do to gather information on such an issue that would allow us to make our case to the vendor and get them to create a fix? I'm thinking of data to gather - anything from OS, memory. .net version installed etc. But I'd also like to know about error logging - if it's possible to log errors that occur in third-party systems.

  On a openVZ containing Deb7 I need to lock the maximum size of a folder, which is used to upload on a php based web server. The directory is synced, so I have to lock the maxsize. MAXSIZE should be upgradable by adding some physical disk later ... I want to use a file as a block device for a file system. So I have done : dd if=/dev/zero of=/disk2/filesystem.dat bs=1M count=100 Then, I made the filesystem on it mkfs.ext4 filesystem.dat Then I tried to mount it : mkdir /opt/filesystem ; mount /disk2/filesystem.dat /opt/filesystem My OpenVZ (it is on a VPS) has no loop module in the kernerl. So I got Could not find any loop device as usual under OpenVz So i think I have to use FUSE, but I really do not know HOW .... Any idea on locking the size of directory under OpenVZ ?

• Can I insert rows next to a locked column in Excel?

  If I lock cells A1:A3000, is there a way to insert rows in columns B-Z? I highlight them and I don't get the option to insert even though it is selected in the lock options. (Bottom line is that I need column A static, not to move.) Any ideas? Is it even possible? Better yet, is there any way to have formulas in column A static, as I insert rows in column B? Column A formulas change cell location when I do so.

• Keyboard no longer works when entering BIOS

  I am trying to boot from USB so I can install a couple different Linux distros. I can enter the BIOS, but as soon as I enter the BIOS the keyboard lights switch off (Num Lock and Caps Lock) and I cannot use the keyboard to do anything in the BIOS or even exit or restart the PC using Ctrl+Alt+Del or do anything at all with the keyboard. But as soon as I boot back into Windows, everything is fine... I've never had this problem before and some Googling hasn't helped. I've tried using a few other keyboards and simply unplugging/replugging the keyboards, but it didn't work. Is there anything I can do in Windows to maybe find out why the keyboard isn't working in the BIOS screen? In the Device Manager, all the drivers are up to date and there are no conflicts.

• Setting up a reverse proxy [on hold]

  I am looking for the best solution for setting up a very low maintenance reverse proxy for a production website (example.com). The setup is as follows: A blog with will be hosted on heroku, and will reside at example.com/blog A static info page which will be hosted on S3 and will reside at example.com/signup A dynamic content management system, provided and hosted by an external vendor which will respond to requests for any other pages. The two solutions which come to mind are: Use HAProxy Ask the external vendor to reverse proxy requests for /blog and /signup The obvious solution would be to use HAProxy, but, if at all possible, I would like to avoid having to setup and maintain another server (especially such a critical one). I came across a company called Snapt which offers hosted HAProxy solutions, but its more geared towards load-balancing than reverse proxying. Option 2 is a possibility, but gives us very little control over changes and configuration. I see a lot of sites hosting blogs on /blog so this must be fairly common practice, am I missing an obvious solution?

some garbage(?), however the end contains the the lock which seems be holding the main thread. Can I trust this stack trace? If not, what can cause this and how I can avoid it? Any ideas about the dead lock based on this stack trace? I don't quite understand how creating a datamodule can dead lock.. I'm using Delphi 2007.

  Hi all, My rails server seems to break after installing the facebooker plugin. Any suggestions on fixing this would be great. I'm using rails 3.0.0.beta and facebooker.
