Facebook PHP SDK and Wordpress Error

I have a developer environment setup with WAMP, Wordpress, and PHPEdit IDE. I use the Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube API's in a sidebar. I'm using Facebook's PHP SDK to display information(no login or admin functions). Since the FB SDK and WP use session_start() I get the following warning: Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent (output started at C:\wamp\www\dfi\wp-content\themes\DFI\header.php:12) in C:\wamp\www\dfi\wp-content\themes\DFI\api\facebook.php on line 36 I'm trying to figure this out by using the warning output but it doesn't help considering the following. I know about clearing white space and characters before and after <?php ?> and placing session_start() before any http output. I use unix line enders and UTF8 encoding without BOM. My host server is not set up for output_buffering. header.php line 11 to 13 11 <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> 12 <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" <?php language_attributes();?>> 13 <head> It looks like the warning comes from inline php code. Dynamicdata Validation Exception Message Caught in JavaScript, not DynamicValidator

I have a page here with a few list views on it that are all bound to Linq data sources and they seem to be working just fine. I want to add validation such that when a checkbox (IsVoid on the object) is checked, comments must be entered (VoidedComments on the object). Here's the bound object's OnValidate method: partial void OnValidate(ChangeAction action) { if (action == ChangeAction.Update) { if (_IsVoid) { string comments = this.VoidedComments; if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(this._VoidedComments)) { throw new ValidationException("Voided Comments are Required to Void an Error"); } } } } Despite there being a dynamic validator on the page referencing the same ValidationGroup as the dynamic control, when the exception fires, it's caught in JavaScript and the debugger wants to break in. The message is never delivered to the UI as expected. Any thoughts as to What's going on?

asp.net rangevalidator for calendar extender entries gives problems in safari

Hi there, I have the following scenario: arrival and departure dates have to be selected on a form, through 2 textboxes with a calendar extender each. I validate the entries to check that no date before today is selected and to check that the departure is after the arrival. I used a rangevalidator and a comparevalidator. In IE, Firefox and Opera it is working fine, in Safari (on windows) however both the validators go off even on entries that should be accepted. It makes me suspect that the date format dd/MM/yyyy causes trouble for Safari. (the dd/MMMM/yyyy also gave the same troubles in the other browsers, probably due to the dependency on UIculture) The code is: The range validator gets its values in code behind on Page_load RangeValidator1.MinimumValue = DateTime.Now.AddDays(1).ToShortDateString(); RangeValidator1.MaximumValue = DateTime.Now.AddMonths(12).ToShortDateString(); Does anybody have any suggestions on how to solve this problem with safari? best regards, Robin

Handling DataGrid.SelectedItems in an MVVM-friendly manner

An interesting question from one of the MVVM Light users today: Is there an MVVM-friendly way to get a DataGrid’s SelectedItems into the ViewModel? The issue there is as old as the DataGrid (that’s not very old but still): SelectedItem (singular) is a DependencyProperty and can be databound to a property in the ViewModel. SelectedItems (plural) is not a DependencyProperty. Thankfully the answer is very simple: Use EventToCommand to call a Command in the ViewModel, and pass the SelectedItems collection as parameter. jQuery Validate - resetForm() Not Behaving as Expected

Site in question is http://epraxadev.com/kw/palisade-palms/ "Click here for brochure" and "Learn More about Palisade Palms" both bring up a lightbox with the same HTML form to be filled out...the "learn more..." link also changes some of the HTML in the form (the value for a hidden form field, and the fields required). I'm using Colorbox for the lightbox, and for its onClosed event, I have this to reset the form: onClosed: function() { $('#brochure-form label em').remove(); $('#brochure-form').data('validator').resetForm(); } Now here's the problem: User tries to submit the "brochure" form, but it fails validation. User closes the lightbox. User opens up the "Learn more" lightbox, and tries to submit the form...now, instead of using the correct validation rules (only requiring e-mail and referrer), it requires all fields to be filled out (as is the case with the "Brochure Form") Is there something that I can add to the onClosed function, to clean up all the validation rules? Using ASP.NET C# and Javascript

I'm looking for the most efficient / standardized way of passing data between client javascript code and C# code behind in an ASP.NET application. Currently ive been using the following methods to achieve this but they all feel a bit like a fudge. The way i pass data from javascript to the C# code behind is by setting hidden asp variables and triggering a postback <asp:HiddenField ID="RandomList" runat="server" /> function SetDataField(data) { document.getElementById('<%=RandomList.ClientID%>').value = data; } Then in C# code i collect the list protected void GetData(object sender, EventArgs e) { var _list = RandomList.value; } Going back the other way i often use either scriptmanager to register a function and pass it data during Page_Load: ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "Set","get("Test();",true); or i add attributes to controls before a post back or during Initialization / pre rendering stages: Btn.Attributes.Add("onclick", "DisplayMessage("Hello");"); These methods have served me well and do the job. However they just dont feel complete. Is there a more standardized way of passing data between client side markup / javascript and backend code. Ive seen some posts like this one: Injecting JavaScrip : StackOverflow that describe HtmlElement class. Is this something is should look into? Thanks everyone for your time.

ASP.NET MVC 2: Custom client side validation rule for dropdowns

I have some custom validation that I need to perform that involves checking the selected option of a dropdown and flagging it as invalid should the user select a specific option. I am using ASP.NET MVC 2 and have a custom Validator and custom server side and client side validation rules as described in this blog article. The server side validation is working fine, however, the client side validation is failing. Here is the javascript validation rule: Sys.Mvc.ValidatorRegistry.validators["badValue"] = function(rule) { var badValue = rule.ValidationParameters["badValue"]; return function(value, context) { if (value != badValue) { return true; } return rule.ErrorMessage; }; }; The rule is being applied to the dropdowns successfully, and placing a breakpoint within the returned function confirms that the validation is firing, and that the 'badValue' is being correctly set. However, 'value' is always null, and so the check always fails. What am I doing wrong?

Then i want to validate that the User typed in the password that is the same in the Database. So I know that it is the right user trying to change the birthday. So i ask you how i can create shuch a validator. Allso i would like to be able to specify an array of which fields the user has to validate the password to change. Ps. I am using RoR3. If it mathers. Server side C# MVC with AngularJS

I like using .NET MVC and have used it quite a bit in the past. I have also built SPA's using AngularJS with no page loads other than the initial one. I think I want to use a blend of the two in many cases. Set up the application initially using .NET MVC and set up routing server side. Then set up each page as a mini-SPA. These pages can be quite complex with a lot of client side functionality. My confusion comes in how to handle the model-view binding using both .NET MVC and the AngularJS scope. Do I avoid the use of razor Html helpers? The Html helpers create the markup behind the scene so it could get messy trying to add angularjs tags using the helpers. So how to add ng-model for example to @Html.TextBoxFor(x = x.Name). Also ng-repeat wouldn't work because I'm not loading my model into the scope, right? I'd still want to use a c# foreach loop? Where do I draw the lines of separation? Has anyone gotten .NET MVC and AngularJS to play nicely together and what are your architectural suggestions to do so?

We have a PHP 5 web application and we're currently evaluating PHP CodeSniffer in order to decide whether forcing code standards improves code quality without causing too much of a headache. If it seems good we will add a SVN pre-commit hook to ensure all new files committed on the dev branch are free from coding standard smells. Is there a way to configure PHP codeSniffer to ignore a particular type of error? or get it to treat a certain error as a warning instead? Ignore certificate errors when requesting a URL in Java

I'm trying to print a URL (without having a browser involved at all) but the URL is currently throwing the following: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target I'm calling the URL using a JEditorPane's setPage method, which just takes a URL as a parameter. Assuming I can't change anything server side and I still need to get to this resource, how would I go about ignoring the certificate error (or something else that gets me to my goal)? Accessing this URL via a browser tells me the site is untrusted and asks me if I want to proceed.

Comparing the Performance of Visual Studio's Web Reference to a Custom Class

As developers, we all make assumptions when programming. Perhaps the biggest assumption we make is that those libraries and tools that ship with the .NET Framework are the best way to accomplish a given task. For example, most developers assume that using ASP.NET's Membership system is the best way to manage user accounts in a website (rather than rolling your own user account store). Similarly, creating a Web Reference to communicate with a web service generates markup that auto-creates a proxy class, which handles the low-level details of invoking the web service, serializing parameters, and so on. Recently a client made us question one of our fundamental assumptions about the .NET Framework and Web Services by asking, "Why should we use proxy class created by Visual Studio to connect to a web service?" In this particular project we were calling a web service to retrieve data, which was then sorted, formatted slightly and displayed in a web page. The client hypothesized that it would be more efficient to invoke the web service directly via the HttpWebRequest class, retrieve the XML output, populate an XmlDocument object, then use XSLT to output the result to HTML. Surely that would be faster than using Visual Studio's auto-generated proxy class, right? Prior to this request, we had never considered rolling our own proxy class; we had always taken advantage of the proxy classes Visual Studio auto-generated for us. OOP Design Question - Where/When do you Validate properties?

I have read a few books on OOP DDD/PoEAA/Gang of Four and none of them seem to cover the topic of validation - it seems to be always assumed that data is valid. I gather from the answers to this post (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1651964/oop-design-question-validating-properties) that a client should only attempt to set a valid property value on a domain object. This person has asked a similar question that remains unanswered: http://bytes.com/topic/php/answers/789086-php-oop-setters-getters-data-validation#post3136182 So how do you ensure it is valid? Do you have a 'validator method' alongside every getter and setter? isValidName() setName() getName() I seem to be missing some key basic knowledge about OOP data validation - can you point me to a book that covers this topic in detail? - ie. covering different types of validation / invariants/ handling feedback / to use Exceptions or not etc

Jquery Live Validation

Hello Everyone, After having a search around I could not find exactly what I want, I am looking to validate a form client side using the Jquery library and some form of validation plugin. I was hoping that some one could advise me on whether there are any validation plugins out there that do not use generic error messages, as my form is laid out with no room for these errors, and I also I want the validator to to for correct content as well. Basically I want to be able to check the field on each key press and blur and if the fields validates for it to gain a green border, and if it does not validate for it to gain a red border, any one know of a plugin that can do this? Legacy IE issues However, new HTML5 tags get mangled in IE browsers prior to version 9. To see this in action, consider this bit of HTML code which includes the new <article> and <header> elements: Viewing this page using the IE9 developer tools (F12) we see that the browser correctly models the hierarchy of tags listed above: But if we switch to IE8 Browser Mode in developer tools things go bad: Did you know that a closing tag could close itself?? The browser loses the hierarchy & closes all of the new tags. The new tags become unusable and the page structure falls apart. Additionally block-level elements lose their block status, appearing as inline. The Fix (good) The block-level issue can be resolved by using CSS styling. Below we set the article, header, and footer tags as block tags. article, header, footer {display:block;} You can avoid the unknown element issue by creating a version of the element in JavaScript before the actual HTML5 tag appears on the page: <script> document.createElement("article"); document.createElement("header"); document.createElement("footer"); </script> The Fix (better) Rather than adding your own JS you can take advantage of a standard JS library such as Remy Sharp’s HTML5 Shiv at http://code.google.com/p/html5shiv/. By default the Modernizr library includes HTML5 Shiv, so you don’t need to include the shiv code separately if you are using Modernizr.

Asp.Net MVC 2 Client validation implementation for Enterprise Library Validation Block

Hello to everybody. I've found a very good article about how to use EntLib Validation Block for server validation in MVC 2. But as there pointed out The current design of EntLib’s Validation Application Block uses the Composite pattern; that is, when we ask for validation for an object, it returns back a single validator object that contains a list of all the validation work to be done. While this is very convenient from a normal usage scenario, the unfortunate side-effect is that we can’t “peek inside” to see what the individual validations are that it’s doing, and therefore can’t generate the appropriate client-side validation hints. So how is it possible to implement client side validation for EntLib? Is there work around?

How come module-level validation errors only display when property-level validators are Valid?

I'm using the module-level validator: 'PropertiesMustMatch' on my view-model, like so: [PropertiesMustMatch("Password", "PasswordConfirm")] public class HomeIndex { [Required] public string Name { get; set; } public string Password { get; set; } public string PasswordConfirm { get; set; } } I'm noticing that if I submit the form without Name filled in, the ValidationSummary() helper returns only the following error: The Name field is required. However, if I fill in Name, then ValidationSummary() will return a PropertiesMustMatch error: 'Password' and 'PasswordConfirm' do not match. So it looks like the property-level validators are being evaluated first, then the model-level validators. I would much prefer if they were all validated at once, and ValidationSummary would return: The Name field is required. 'Password' and 'PasswordConfirm' do not match. Any ideas what I can do to fix this? I'm studying the MVC 2 source-code to try to determine why this happens.

Why do some bad websites rank well?

Consider the following scenario: you are pitching SEO/Website Optimisation to a prospective client and you explain to them the importance of great copy and content, how acquiring links (ethically) can increase page rank, why the quality of the HTML build matters (H1, H2 tags, w3c validation etc), why keyword research is beneficial, you may drop in a few Google Webmaster Guideline or Matt Cutts references to back up your claims and rubbish the "back hat" approach as being no longer effective for good measure. Your advice is ethical and in the eyes of best practices, spot on. Then, the client points out to you some of their long established competitors on Google and you see these competitor websites ranking in the top spots (1 to 3) for medium to highly competitive search phrases that your client wants to compete for. These websites totally contradict your ethical approach and pretty much violate every best practice previously noted. They even out perform other "white hat" competitors who are in accordance with the above guidelines. I experienced this today. One of these well ranking websites had: About six microsites with more or less the same copy and a slightly varied layout Little or not textual content I would almost say duplicate content across the sites, but there was so little of it it could barely qualify for being duplicate All the content in Flash (with a music track that kicked in on each page load, not so much of an SEO issue - but it helps paint the picture) Keyword stuffing behind the Flash file with a bunch of black text on black background in the style of keyword 1 keyword 2,keyword1,keyword 2,keyword 2 keyword 3 and so on... The exact keyword stuffed combination present on every page of the website A bunch of clearly self made links from poor quality forums and directories with little or no Page Rank Links exchanged across the microsites How do you explain your way out of this when this hard evidence is sat in front of you undermining your great pitch?
