• Is there a way to search for equations in Word 2007 documents?

  I have many large Word 2007 documents containing a few dozen equations each. Is there a way to locate the equations using Word's Find command, or do I have to hunt for them old-school? I tried searching for a graphic (^g) and and field (^d), but that didn't do the trick. Am I missing something obvious? Might there be a way to do this using VB or some other trick?

  I am developing a VBA project in Word and have encountered a problem with handling events when using a class that implements another. I define an empty class, IMyInterface: Public Sub Xyz() End Sub Public Event SomeEvent() And a class, MyClass that implements the above: Implements IMyInterface Public Event SomeEvent() Public Sub Xyz() ' ... code ... RaiseEvent SomeEvent End Sub Private Sub IMyInterface_Xyz() Xyz End Sub If I create a third class, OtherClass, that declares a member variable with the type of the interface class: Private WithEvents mMy As IMyInterface and try to initialize this variable with an instance of the implementing class: Set mMy = New MyClass I get a run-time error '459': This component doesn't support this set of events. The MSDN page for this error message states: "You tried to use a WithEvents variable with a component that can't work as an event source for the specified set of events. For example, you may be sinking events of an object, then create another object that Implements the first object. Although you might think you could sink the events from the implemented object, that isn't automatically the case. Implements only implements an interface for methods and properties." The above pretty much sums up what I'm trying to do. The wording, "that isn't automatically the case", rather than "this is flat-out impossible", seems to suggest that there is some bit of manual work I need to do to get it to work, but it doesn't tell me what! Does anybody know if this is possible in VBA?

• Ignoring a character along with word boundary in regex

  I am using gsub in Ruby to make a word within text bold. I am using a word boundary so as to not make letters within other words bold, but am finding that this ignores words that have a quote after them. For example: text.gsub(/#{word}\b/i, "<b>#{word}</b>") text = "I said, 'look out below'" word = below In this case the word below is not made bold. Is there any way to ignore certain characters along with a word boundary?

  Using ubuntu 10.04 on both ends. We have a client and server machine on the SAME network attempting to make a vpn connection. We use the config files from here and made minimal changes. The server and client start and seem to connect without any trouble. • Word 2007 won't run, tries to reinstall, fails with error 1402.

  Okay, this problem has been plaguing this computer for a while now. We tried googling, and none of the answers found helped to solve the problem. So, I am now posting the answer here for posterity. Office 2007 Home/Student edition was installed on the computer, running Vista (32-bit). One day, Word just up and stopped working. All the other programs continued to operate as expected. But every time you would click the icon for Word, it would pop up an install dialog, with a message reading "Preparing to install...". After a few minutes of the little progress bar going and going, it errors out, and gives error 1402, something to the effect of unable to access registry key HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Classes\.wll\.... Searching around, every answer i found had to do with reassigning the permissions on this key, giving full rights to SYSTEM or to Everyone, and propagating the changes down to all sub-keys. When ever this was attempted though, it would tell us that we were unable to access the key due to permissions, even though we had run regedit as Administrator and are logged on with an administrative account. We also tried uninstalling Office and reinstalling it, as well as doing a repair install. Both these attempts also threw the same 1402 error. Also of note was that the executable for Word (winword.exe) was MIA and no longer to be found in the Office install directory.

• How could I embed formatted XML source in WORD documents?

  I'm writing a documentation with WORD that contains XML source code (whole files) as examples. The way I'm embedding the currently XML is quite cumbersome and doesn't seem to me as really maintainable: I'm finishing the editing of the document in WORD and create a PDF from it using Acrobat next, I open my XML files (2x input files, 2x generated output files) with IE and print them with the PDF printer supplied by Acrobat now, I open up Acrobat Pro and attach the four XML-PDF files to my original document The problem with that work flow for me is that it involves too much manual labor in order to get the documentation done. What I've tried up to now is not really satisfying for me: converting each XML to PDF and appending them like described above opening the XML files with SCiTE, copy as RTF and paste into Word playing around with the LaTeX packages minted, pygments and listings (I could write the docs with LaTeX too) but found some unsolvable problems in each of these packages I'm searching for a way that produces my documentation more automatic. For example embedding the XML files including formatting of IE (which I find quite readable). The files should be included by reference so that I don't have to paste the XML sources manually every time the XML changes.

  Do you need an easy way to view word definitions while browsing with Internet Explorer? The Define with Bing Accelerator will display definitions in the same (or a new) tab and save you time while browsing. Using Define with Bing The installation consists of two steps. First, click on Add to Internet Explorer to start the process. Next you will be asked to confirm the installation. Once you have clicked Add your new accelerator is ready to use (no browser restart required). Whenever you encounter a word that needs defining highlight it, click on the small blue square, go to All Accelerators, and then Define with Bing. There are two ways to access the definition: Hover your mouse over the Define with Bing text to open a small popup window Click on Define with Bing to open a definition search in a new tab Being able to access a definition or explanation in the same tab will definitely save you time while browsing. In the example shown here you can get an idea of what SCORM means but clicking on the links inside the popup window is not recommended (webpage opens in popup and is not resizable). In the situation shown above it is better to click on Define with Bing and see more information in a new tab. Conclusion The Define with Bing Accelerator can be a very useful time saver while browsing with Internet Explorer. Finding those word definitions will be a much more pleasant experience now.   While developing a web application, what is the best spec to use? HTML4.01 HTML5 XHTML trans XHTML1.1 I was taught to use XHTML1.0 strict in uni and to avoid applet/iframe/tables(except in forms). I noticed that some deprecated tags are available in HTML5. Is it safe to code in HTML5? If so should I use target='', and the aforementioned tags? I have noticed that there are many alternatives to choose from including canvas, object. I have no preference, although Iframe tags are being dispensed from sources like Facebook/Google/etc. What would be the best avenue to take for Spec as of now(Feb 2011)?

Now, to get to the point; a coworker said to me that he won't come with me because Devday London is expensive, and something expensive should reward you with a certificate, a certificate that could have some value to the eyes on an employer.   I got this late 2010 11" MacBook Air. I'm having issues with NVIDIA graphics, especially with GNOME Shell. I'm thinking about selling this to switch to the new MacBook Pro, particularly the entry level 13" (see specs here), because of the Intel HD Graphics 3000. I assume that it will be more FOSS-friendly. I just want to point out that there are non-negotiable reasons why I'm keeping an Apple hardware at the moment, so let's keep this on topic. Will the MacBook Pro Early 2011 work better with Ubuntu than the Air Late 2010? Any other factors than the graphics hardware? Should we expect better NVIDIA graphics anytime soon?
