• Advanced text search in actionscript-return ALL nouns,adjectives and verbs..

  Hi I know that as3 has some powerful new text search capabilities, especially when combined with regex. I don't even know if this is possible, but I would like to somehow, search any block of text, and return all nouns, adjectives and verbs. What would be the best(most efficent) way to do this? Is regex an option? or would I have to load in some sort of open sourced dictionary 9as used in spellcheckers) to compare with or?? After, I've pulled all the nouns, adjectives and verbs, I need to count and prioritize by their frequency. Any suggestions welcome...

The getSession method belongs to Struts2 so I can't modify it. I would like to avoid using @SuppressWarnings because other warnings can be useful. I guess all Struts2 users in the world faced the same problem... is there an elegant solution?

• Java: Reflection against casting when you know superclass

  I don't know exactly how to define my doubt so please be patient if the question has already been asked. Let's say I have to dinamically instantiate an object. This object will surely be instance of a subclass of a known, immutable class A. I can obtain dinamically the specific implementation class. Would it be better to use reflection exactly as if I didn't know anything about the target class, or would it be preferrable/possible to do something like: A obj = (Class.forName("com.package.Sub-A")) new A(); where Sub-A extends A ? The purpose would be to avoid reflection overhead times... Thank you in advance.

• Excel Worksheet assignment in VB.Net doesn't compile

  I'm converting a VB6 application into VB.Net and having trouble with the basics. I start off with:- Dim xl As Excel.Application Dim xlsheet As Excel.Worksheet Dim xlwbook As Excel.Workbook xl = New Excel.Application xlwbook = xl.Workbooks.Open(my_data.file_name) xlsheet = xlwbook.Sheets(1) but the last line doesn't compile; it reports Option Strict On disallows implicit conversion from 'Object' to 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet' I can make this go away by replacing the line with xlsheet = CType(xlwbook.Sheets(1), Excel.Worksheet) but that does't look like the right thing to do to me. If the assignment is correct, I would have thought the object should naturally have the correct type. So: does anyone know what the correct thing I should be doing here?

• Casting as Interface? Awesome.

  I was just experimenting around with one of my programs, trying to make it looks prettier and I found something interesting. I have an interface that 4 classes inherit from. I found that if I pass the Class as an object to a method like so: ClassTest classtest = new ClassTest(); DoOperation(classtest); private void DoOperation(object o) { ((InterfaceClass)o).DoThis(); } So I can pass any type of class that inherits from InterfaceClass, and it will preform the proper interface operation? This is the coolest thing I've ever found from OOP (something I've never really studied) I really thought interfaces were created for the sole purpose of organization for developers. Are there more uses for interfaces than this?

  I'm building a game in c# which allows you to script your own level, although I have come across a bit of a thought. I have a base class called "World" as an object. This was made with a simple: class World { However, when the user is scripting their level, all of the game objects will be contained in the world object. I want them to be able to do something on the lines of: World.ParentObjectName.ParentObjectProperty = "abc"; I know that the System.Windows.Forms.Panel and other classes are like containers and can have objects in them and be accessed in that kind of way... my question is how can I make a class which is like a container in which I can add objects to, and then access them with a World.ObjectName I have tried class World : System.Collections.CollectionBase, but with this method, I have to keep typing World.Item("ObjectName") Can anyone help? • Is it safe to unset PHP super-globals if this behavior is documented?

  I'm building a PHP framework, and in it I have a request object that parses the url as well as the $_GET, $_POST and $_FILE superglobals. I want to encourage safe web habits, so I'm protecting the data against SQL injection, etc. In order to ensure users of this framework are accessing the safe, clean data through the request object, I plan to use unset($_GET, $_POST, $_REQUEST); after parsing those variables. I will document this in the method comments, and explain in the framework documentation that this is happening. My question is: Would this be desirable behavior? What are the potential pitfalls that I have not foreseen?

I was wondering what the cleanest way to marshal an event from a background thread onto my UI thread is.   Hi, I am looking write a javascript method as such called when a dropdownlist changes value function GetStuff(sender, destID){ var dest = document.getElementById(destID); this.PageMethods.GetStuffs(sender, dest, null, null); } GetStuffs() is in the Codebehind as follows: [WebMethod] public static void GetStuffs(object sender, object dest) { DropDownList s = sender as DropDownList; DropDownList d = dest as DropDownList; d.Items.Add(new ListItem(s.SelectedValue)); } I have a break point set at the method and alerts in the GetStuff() jscript method fire up until the PageMethod call, at which nothing happens. I have set OnSuccess and OnFailure methods up with alerts and they don't get fired. Any thoughts? Am I doing something inherently wrong?

• DataGridView cells not editable when using an outside thread call

  Hi, I'm not able to edit my datagridview cells when a number of identical calls takes place on another thread. Here's the situation: Dataset table is created in the main window The program receives in files and processes them on a background thread in class TorrentBuilder : BackgroundWorker creating an array objects of another class Torrent My program receives those objects from the BW result and adds them into the dataset The above happens either on my main window thread or in another thread: I have a separate thread watching a folder for files to come in, and when they do come in, they proceed to call TorrentBuilder.RunWorkerAsynch() from that thread, receive the result, and call an outside class that adds the Torrent objects into the table. When the files are received by the latter thread, the datagridview isn't editable. All of the values come up properly into the datagridview, but when I click on a cell to edit it: I can write letters and everything, but when I click out of it, it immediately reverts back to its original value. If I restart the program, I can edit the same cells just fine. If the values are freshly added from the main window thread, I can edit the cells just fine. The outside thread is called from my main window thread, and sits there in the background. I don't believe it to be ReadOnly because I would have gotten an exception. • Why isn't it possible to update an ObservableCollection from a different thread?

  In a multi-threaded WPF application, it is not possible to update an ObservableCollection from a thread other than WPF window thread. I know there are workarounds, so my question is not how to avoid the "This type of CollectionView does not support changes to its SourceCollection from a thread different from the Dispatcher thread" exception. My question is, why there is such an exception? Why wasn't it possible to allow collection updates from any thread? Personally, I don't see any reason to block UI update when ObservableCollection is changed from other threads. If two threads (including parallel ones) are accessing the same object, one listening for changes of object properties through events, the other one doing changes, it will always work, at least if locks are used properly. So, what are the reasons?

  I'm looking to find an api or program or interface to get the following information. I would like to see the amount of times a particular search term was used and its /weekly/monthly/yearly breakdown along with its rank in a particular page. I've found googlesearchpositionfinder.com and google.com/trends but i have 5000 terms to search for by hand is not happening. I've also found www.juiceanalytics.com/openjuice/programmatic-google-trends-api but it doesn't allow me to do a break down for a period of 2 years. Basically i'm trying to create a ranking of search phrases, the weeks(period) they were more popular and how a particular site(e.g urban dictionary) showed up in googles search rankings for the terms.

• ideas for simple objects for day to day web-dev use?

  Dang-I know this is a subjective question so will probably get booted off/locked, but I'll try anyway, because I don't know where else to ask (feel free to point me to a better place to ask this!) I'm just wrapping my head around oop with PHP, but I'm still not using frameworks or anything. I'd like to create several small simple objects that I could use in my own websites to better get a feel for them. Can anyone recommend a list or a resource that could point me to say 10 day-to-day objects that people would use in basic websites? The reason I'm asking is because I'm confusing myself a bit. For example, I was thinking of a "database connection" object, but then I'm just thinking that is just a function, and not really an "object"?? So the question is: What are some examples of objects used in basic PHP websites (not including "shopping cart" type websites) Thanks!

  I want to use swig for generation of read-only wrappers for a complex object. The object which I want to wrap will always be existent while I will read it. And also I will only use my wrappers at the time that object is existent, thus I don't need any memory management from SWIG. For following swig interface: %module test %immutable; %inline %{ struct Foo { int a; }; struct Bar { int b; Foo f; }; %} I will have a wrappers which will have a lot of garbage in generated interfaces and do useless work which will reduce performance in my case.   I've got a MainPage.xaml page a Detail.xaml page. I've passed variables to the Detail.xaml from MainPage.xaml by using a static variable and referencing it in Detail.xaml (the detail page is acting like a dialog). However once I've updated the content of another object, I want to call a method in MainPage.xaml to refresh the content of that page using the updated object from the Detail.xaml page. I assume I am not using the correct paradigm for this and should probably be using MVVM or something but I'm not familiar with the implementation and was hoping there was a simple way to do this?

• Browser not handling exception from AJAX panel, ASP.NET c#

I have a simple pojo form object, the problem is that many properties will be taked from drop down lists that are populated from lookup entities, so I return the entity ID to the form object. public NewCarRequestForm { private makeId; // this are selected from a drop down. private modelId; } Should I just send this lookup entity ID to the service layer? or should I validated that this ID is correct (Somebody can send any random ID through the request) before and how? Now there is a problem if I want to validated something based on some property of the lookup entity. Do I perform a database lookup of the entity just to perform the validation? thanks.

• What do you name the "other" kind of view-model in an MVVM project?

  With MVVM, I think of a view-model as a class that provides all the data and commands that a view needs to bind to. But what happens when I have a database entity object, say a Customer, and I want to build a class that shapes or flattens the Customer class for use in a data grid. For example, maybe this special Customer object would have a property TotalOrders, which is actually calculated using a join with a collection of Order entities. My question is, what do I call this special Customer class? In other situations, I'd be tempted to call it a CustomerViewModel, but I feel like "overloading" the notion of a view-model like this would be confusing in an MVVM project. What would you suggest?

  When using builtin types as fixture parameters, pytest prints out the value of the parameters in the test report. For example: @fixture(params=['hello', 'world'] def data(request): return request.param def test_something(data): pass Running this with py.test --verbose will print something like: test_example.py:7: test_something[hello] PASSED test_example.py:7: test_something[world] PASSED Note that the value of the parameter is printed in square brackets after the test name.
