• can anyone help me through the preparation of Eclipse IDE for android developer in ubuntu 12.04?

  I'm new to to Linux, in this particular case, to Ubuntu. I have a small android project I have to finnish until this Friday and I'm still stuck with the install and preparing of the development envrironment. The only thing I did was install the Eclipse IDE. I'm still missing the SDK, JAVA and anything else that might be needed. Can someone help me through this? It's only because I'm running out of time to develop, or else I would embarc on a deeper investigation of this OS. • I am trying to install Kubuntu, but I get a metalink error

  It looks like the ISO metalink is broken for the Kubuntu install from Wubi. Can you please fix this? Or, help me figure out what I'm doing wrong. • Parse git log by modified files

  I have been told to make git messages for each modified file all one line so I can use grep to find all changes to that file. For instance: $git commit -a modified: path/to/file.cpp/.h - 1) change1 , 2) change2, etc...... $git log | grep path/to/file.cpp/.h modified: path/to/file.cpp/.h - 1) change1 , 2) change2, etc...... modified: path/to/file.cpp/.h - 1) change1 , 2) change2, etc...... modified: path/to/file.cpp/.h - 1) change1 , 2) change2, etc...... That's great, but then the actual line is harder to read because it either runs off the screen or wraps and wraps and wraps. If I want to make messages like this: $git commit -a modified: path/to/file.cpp/.h 1) change1 2) change2 etc...... is there a good way to then use grep or cut or some other tool to get a readout like $git log | grep path/to/file.cpp/.h modified: path/to/file.cpp/.h 1) change1 2) change2 etc...... modified: path/to/file.cpp/.h 1) change1 2) change2 etc...... modified: path/to/file.cpp/.h 1) change1 2) change2 etc......

• Ubuntu One, compressed files

  I have uploaded some files to my Ubuntu One account and it seems to work great most of the time. I usually upload them directly from Nautilus by right clicking the folder, using the ”Synchronize this folder” option, and then I make sure that the file I want to upload is published. Then I usually test the whole thing by trying to download it. I right click the file again to get its URL and I paste it into my Web browser. This usually works fine. But yesterday I uploaded two compressed files – ”.tar.bz2”. When I tried to open them after downloading them with my Web browser (Opera), it failed. I found that the file was bigger than the original file (2358 B instead af 2335 B – 15 B added at the beginning of the file and 8 B added to the end), and someone at the Opera channel (IRC) at OperaNet (Europe) figured out that the reason for this is that the server compress the file again, ”without telling Opera”. So to be able to extract the file I need to add ”.gz” to the file name and then extract it twice. If I downloaded it with Firefox however, I didn't need to do that, so maybe Firefox figured this out somehow in a way that Opera does not. Someone also tried to download the file with wget and some other browser and he also got the same result as I did with Opera, that is the file is compressed a second time by the server. I guess ”the server” is the Ubuntu One server, right? So why is this? Could it be done better somehow? Or did I do something wrong when uploading the files? It also seems like this extra compressing thing does not always happen, because when I tried again a few minutes ago, the file came down with its right size (2335 B), without an extra compression. But the other file (114 MiB) was still compressed twice.

• Read array dump output and generates the correspondent XML file

I need a Java function that reads a file with a content like this (attached) and returns it in XML. For a reference, in site http://pear.php.net/package/Var_Dump/ you can find the code (in PHP) that generates dumps in XML, so all neeeded logic is there (I think).   Android Development Query Hello, I wonder if anyone could help me, i am trying to save an image (jpg or png) from the res/raw or assets folder to the SD card location (/sdcard/DCIM/). I have been following a tutorial which can save an image from a URL to the SD card Root, but i have looked everywhere to be able to save from res/raw or asset folder instead, and to a differnet location onthe sd card /sdcard/DCIM/ Here is the code, can anyone show me how to do the above from this? • "tailing" a binary file based on string location using bash?

  I've got a bunch of binary files, each containing an embedded string near the end of the file but at different places (only occurs once in each file). I need to extract the part of the file starting at the location of the string till the end of the file and dump it into a new file. eg. If the file's contents is "AWREDEDEDEXXXERESSDSDS" and the string of interest is "XXX", then the part of the file I need is "XXXERESSDSDS". What's the easiest way to do this in bash?

• How do you implement file drag-and-drop upload in Google Chrome?

  I've found several tutorials online about implementing file drag/drop with Firefox 3.6 (they involve using a FileReader object to get the file binary data). However, I cannot create a FileReader object in Chrome on Windows or Mac. Does anyone know what the API is to read and manipulate data from a drag-and-dropped file in Chrome? If I can get the binary data of the file, I already have the rest of the code to perform the upload. Note: I've also tried using the getAsBinary() function call on the file object of the drag event (event.dataTransfer.file) but I believe that is a Mozilla-specific function and not implemented in Chrome. Also, I'm not interested in a solution using google gears or one that requires a user to select files from a dialog. I'm specifically trying to implement a drag-and-drop file upload.

The CMD fiel will work if I hardcode the path, but I need to dynamically specify the path of the file.   This may seam a newbie question but it is not.   I would like to create a zip archive from a folder and keep entries for (non-empty) directories. In the code below, FileInputStream throws a FileNotFoundException when a directory is passed to AddToZip. I have tried to put a condition around the actual writing of bytes but it makes the whole archive invalid. • compiling and running java on windows

  I thought the task should be fairly easy, but my understanding of javac and java in general is rather poor. I am using Windows8 and would like to compile a single file.java that makes use of other classes. I successfully (at least without any warnings) compiled my file by calling: javac -cp relative_path_to_needed_classes relative_path_to_file_java\file.java Now if I want to run the result of compilation (file.class) by calling: java -cp relative_path_to_needed_classes relative_path_to_file_java\file I get: Error: Could not find or load main class relative_path_to_file_java\file I was trying a lot of combination to modify the -cp (eg. by adding .\;relative_path_to_file;) but still the closest where I get is: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError : relative_path_to_file\file (wrong name: file) The file from (wrong name: file) is the name of the file and the name of the public class within the file. I was reading a lot on SO and other sources but could not figure out what is wrong. Btw. as a result of compilation some other classes were created: file$1.class file$name1.class file$name2.class (where name1 and name2 are names of private classes within file.java) My questions are: What is (the most) probably source of my error / what am I doing wrong? What is the purpose of file$1.class? What is the minimum I should specify in -cp? May encoding play any role? Do every java class have to reside in a package? (rather not directly related to my issue) Do order of paths specified in -cp play any role in runtime?

• jsf and eclipse setup. Lib in Explorer is different than lib in tomcat. How come?

  Hi, I am starter in JSF2.0, and I have a question related to Eclipse (I am using Helios). 1)I create a Dynamic Project 2)I add JSF project facet. 3)I choose JSF user library (I have created it using MyFaces) All ok so far. I notice though that in the Project Explorer in WebContent/WEB-INF/lib the lib directory is empty instead of having MyFaces jars. The application works fine though. I looked into this and the jars are actually being placed in the corresponding lib directory of the app deployed under wtpwebapps of the Tomcat instance of eclipse in the .pluggins directory. Ok, it works but IMHO it is incorrect to have the Project Explorer inconsistent with the directories actually deployed. I.e. lib is shown empty in Project Explorer but with jars under wtpwebapps. Am I wrong to dislike this inconsistency? Is this how it should work or am I doing something wrong in the way I am setting my project? Thanks!

• Talend Enterprise Data Integration overperforms on Oracle SPARC T4

  The SPARC T microprocessor, released in 2005 by Sun Microsystems, and now continued at Oracle, has a good track record in parallel execution and multi-threaded performance. However it was less suited for pure single-threaded workloads. The new SPARC T4 processor is now filling that gap by offering a 5x better single-thread performance over previous generations. Following our long-term relationship with Talend, a fast growing ISV positioned by Gartner in the “Visionaries” quadrant of the “Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools”, we decided to test some of their integration components with the T4 chip, more precisely on a T4-1 system, in order to verify first hand if this new processor stands up to its promises. Several tests were performed, mainly focused on: Single-thread performance of the new SPARC T4 processor compared to an older SPARC T2+ processor Overall throughput of the SPARC T4-1 server using multiple threads The tests consisted in reading large amounts of data --ten's of gigabytes--, processing and writing them back to a file or an Oracle 11gR2 database table. They are CPU, memory and IO bound tests. Given the main focus of this project --CPU performance--, bottlenecks were removed as much as possible on the memory and IO sub-systems. When possible, the data to process was put into the ZFS filesystem cache, for instance. Also, two external storage devices were directly attached to the servers under test, each one divided in two ZFS pools for read and write operations. Multi-thread: Testing throughput on the Oracle T4-1 The tests were performed with different number of simultaneous threads (1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 32, 48 and 64) and using different storage devices: Flash, Fibre Channel storage, two stripped internal disks and one single internal disk. All storage devices used ZFS as filesystem and volume management. Each thread read a dedicated 1GB-large file containing 12.5M lines with the following structure: customerID;FirstName;LastName;StreetAddress;City;State;Zip;Cust_Status;Since_DT;Status_DT 1;Ronald;Reagan;South Highway;Santa Fe;Montana;98756;A;04-06-2006;09-08-2008 2;Theodore;Roosevelt;Timberlane Drive;Columbus;Louisiana;75677;A;10-05-2009;27-05-2008 3;Andrew;Madison;S Rustle St;Santa Fe;Arkansas;75677;A;29-04-2005;09-02-2008 4;Dwight;Adams;South Roosevelt Drive;Baton Rouge;Vermont;75677;A;15-02-2004;26-01-2007 […] The following graphs present the results of our tests: Unsurprisingly up to 16 threads, all files fit in the ZFS cache a.k.a L2ARC : once the cache is hot there is no performance difference depending on the underlying storage. From 16 threads upwards however, it is clear that IO becomes a bottleneck, having a good IO subsystem is thus key. Single-disk performance collapses whereas the Sun F5100 and ST6180 arrays allow the T4-1 to scale quite seamlessly. From 32 to 64 threads, the performance is almost constant with just a slow decline. For the database load tests, only the best IO configuration --using external storage devices-- were used, hosting the Oracle table spaces and redo log files. Using the Sun Storage F5100 array allows the T4-1 server to scale up to 48 parallel JVM processes before saturating the CPU. The final result is a staggering 646K lines per second insertion in an Oracle table using 48 parallel threads. Single-thread: Testing the single thread performance Seven different tests were performed on both servers. Given the fact that only one thread, thus one file was read, no IO bottleneck was involved, all data being served from the ZFS cache. Read File ? Filter ? Write File: Read file, filter data, write the filtered data in a new file. The filter is set on the “Status” column: only lines with status set to “A” are selected. This limits each output file to about 500 MB. Read File ? Load Database Table: Read file, insert into a single Oracle table. Average: Read file, compute the average of a numeric column, write the result in a new file. Division & Square Root: Read file, perform a division and square root on a numeric column, write the result data in a new file. Oracle DB Dump: Dump the content of an Oracle table (12.5M rows) into a CSV file. Transform: Read file, transform, write the result data in a new file. The transformations applied are: set the address column to upper case and add an extra column at the end, which is the concatenation of two columns. Sort: Read file, sort a numeric and alpha numeric column, write the result data in a new file. The following table and graph present the final results of the tests: Throughput unit is thousand lines per second processed (K lines/second). Improvement is the % of improvement between the T5140 and T4-1. Test T4-1 (Time s.) T5140 (Time s.) It seems clear that the SPARC T4 processor has gone a long way filling the gap in single-thread performance, without sacrifying the multi-threaded capability as it still shows a very impressive scaling on heavy-duty multi-threaded jobs. While the ORA-600 error is "captured" as a handled exception in the Oracle source code, the ORA-7445 is an unhandled exception error due to an OS exception which should result in the creation of a core file.  An ORA-7445 is a generic error, and can occur from anywhere in the Oracle code. The precise location of the error is identified by the core file and/or trace file it produces.  Looking for the best way to diagnose?   I want to put some compressed data into a remote repository. To put data on this repository I can only use a method that take the name of the resource and its content as a String. (like data.txt + "hello world"). The repository is moking a filesystem but is not, so I can not use File directly. I want to be able to do the following: client send to server a file 'data.txt' server compress 'data.txt' into a compressed file 'data.zip' server send a string representation of data.zip to the repository repository store data.zip client download from repository data.zip and his able to open it with its favorite zip tool The problem arise at step 3 when I try to get a string representation of my compressed file.
