• Losing scope for DataContex using LINQToSQL intermediately

  I am having a weird Situation with my DataConext. All My code is in C# I have a DLL project for my data access layer and business Layer which and Winforms project for my UI layer. My Data access Layer's Namespace is xxx.Data this is where have my xxx.dbml I also have xxx.Data.BusinessObjects name space of course for my business object in that project In my UI Layer I have these namespaces xxxApp(for Forms), xxxApp.Controls (For Controls) I have lost scope of the DataContext, it was accessible now when I do a Rebuild Solution I sometimes get compile errors saying for example: Error 34 'xxx.Data.xxxDataContext' does not contain a definition for 'SubmitChanges' and no extension method 'SubmitChanges' accepting a first argument of type 'xxx.Data.xxxDataContext' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Also intelisense doesn't recognize the methods and table classes from my xxxDataContext anymore I can access all object fine when I am in the DLL project but now in the Winforms project this is very strange. If anyone can help me out I would be extremely grateful!

  Hi everyone, Writing test cases for my project, one test I need is to test deletion. This may not exactly be the right way to go about it, but I've stumbled upon something which isn't making sense to me. Also if I sit and debug, and manually compare objects listOfFruit[1] and f2 they are the same. But that Assert line fails. What gives?

• Issues using UITapGestureRecognizers in Interface Builder

  I'm attempting to use the UITapGestureRecognizer object that can be found in Interface Builder. I've dragged a single "UITapGestureRecognizer" from the object library to a single view xib. I then create an IBAction method from this tap gesture, for a simple test, I'm just printing an "NSLog" message to the console once there is a tap on the view. I've run this, and the tap method isn't being called. I right click the view in IB and I noticed that there is a warning "!" on the view's "Outlook Collections" I see: Outlook Collections gestureRecognizers - Tap Gesture Recognizer (!) The warning states: UIView does not have an outlet collection named gestureRecognizers. What do I need to do to remedy this?

  I have a custom dataGrid that acts more like a 2D list (if that makes sense at all). I am dynamically creating the columns and recreating the dataProvider to suit my needs. While debugging I can see that I am creating the columns and setting them to the dataGrid and creating and setting the dataProvider, but for some reason I am able to see the dataGrid and the columns but not the data.   I have a desktop application (forms) with a tab control, I assign a tab and a new custom webrowser control. I open up about 10 of these tabs. Each one visits about 100 - 500 different pages. The trouble is that if 1 webbrowser control has a problem it shuts down the entire program. I want to be able to close the offending webbrowser control and open a new one in it's place. Is there any event that I need to subscribe to catch a crashing or unresponsive webbrowser control ?   I have 3 types of users in my system. each type has different information I created the following tables: BaseUser(base_user_id, username, password, additional common data) base_user_id is PK and Identity UserType1(user_id, data related to type1 only) user_id is PK and FK to base_user_id UserType2(user_id, data related to type2 only) user_id is PK and FK to base_user_id UserType3(user_id, data related to type3 only) user_id is PK and FK to base_user_id Now I have relation from each type of user to warehouses table. Users from type1 and type2 should have only warehouse_id and users from type3 should have warehouse_id and customer_id. I thought about this structure: WarehouseOfUser(base_user_id,warehouse_id) base_user_id is FK to base_user_id in BaseUser WarehouseOfTyp3User(base_user_id,warehouse_id, customer_id) base_user_id is FK to base_user_id in BaseUser The problem is that such structure allows 2 things I want to prevent: 1. add to WarehouseOfTyp3User data of user from type2 or type1. 2. add to WarehouseOfUser data of user from type3. what is the best structure for such case?

After I read this article: http://www.javamex.com/tutorials/memory/object_memory_usage.shtml I didn't understand some things: the size of a data type is always the same also on different platform (Linux / Windows 32 / 64 bit)??? so an int will be always 32 bit?; when I compute the memory usage I must put also the reference value itself? If I have an object to a class that has an int field its memory will be 12 (object header) + 4 reference + 4 (the int field) + 3 (padding) = 24 bytes??

I'm looking for a way to produce a dynamic activity based on a JSON object. Does this sequence generator make use of the database's increasing numeric value generating capability or generates the number on his own? Q2. If JPA uses database auto increement feauture, then will it work with datastores that don't have auto increement feature? Q3. If JPA generate numeric value on his own, then how the JPA implementation knows which value to generate next? Does it consult with the database first to see what value was stored last so as to generate the value (last + 1). ====================================================================================== Q4. • NSFetchedResultsChangeInsert reported when only updates are taking place

  I have a class that acts as a NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate which is receiving messages to -(void)controller:didChangeObject:atIndexPath:forChangeType:newIndexPath: with change type NSFetchedResultsChangeInsert, but the actual object which is the subject has with certainty not been newly inserted, only updated. So I would expect to get a change message with type NSFetchedResultsChangeUpdate, should I not? If i check the value of isInserted on the object, it yields false (as expected from the logic in my program). So my question is, why is this reported as an insert when it is only a change/update? They only thing I can think of is that part of the changes that are taking place is that objects of another entity type are inserted with relationships to objects of the entity type that the NSFetchedResultsController is set up to fetch.

• .NET Free memory usage (how to prevent overallocation / release memory to the OS)

  I'm currently working on a website that makes large use of cached data to avoid roundtrips. At startup we get a "large" graph (hundreds of thouthands of different kinds of objects). Those objects are retrieved over WCF and deserialized (we use protocol buffers for serialization) I'm using redgate's memory profiler to debug memory issues (the memory didn't seem to fit with how much memory we should need "after" we're done initializing and end up with this report Now what we can gather from this report is that: 1) Most of the memory .NET allocated is free (it may have been rightfully allocated during deserialisation, but now that it's free, i'd like for it to return to the OS) 2) Memory is fragmented (which is bad, as everytime i refresh the cash i need to redo the memory hungry deserialisation process and this, in turn creates large object that may throw an OutOfMemoryException due to fragmentation) 3) I have no clue why the space is fragmented, because when i look at the large object heap, there are only 30 instances, 15 object[] are directly attached to the GC and totally unrelated to me, 1 is a char array also attached directly to the GC Heap, the remaining 15 are mine but are not the cause of this as i get the same report if i comment them out in code. So my question is, what can i do to go further with this? I'm not really sure what to look for in debugging / tools as it seems my memory is fragmented, but not by me, and huge amounts of free spaces are allocated by .net , which i can't release. Also please make sure you understand the question well before answering, i'm not looking for a way to free memory within .net (GC.Collect), but to free memory that is already free in .net , to the system as well as to defragment said memory. Note that a slow solution is fine, if it's possible to manually defragment the large heap i'd be all for it as i can call it at the end of RefreshCache and it's ok if it takes 1 or 2 second to run. Thanks for your help! A few notes i forgot: 1) The project is a .net 2.0 website, i get the same results running it in a .net 4 pool, idem if i run it in a .net 4 pool and convert it to .net 4 and recompile. 2) These are results of a release build, so debug build can not be the issue. 3) And this is probably quite important, i do not get these issues at all in the webdev server, only in IIS, in the webdev i get memory consumption rather close to my actual consumption (well more, but not 5-10X more!)

• How do I change the URL Alias for Security/login in SilverStripe to user/login

  I am working on a new website being built in SilverStripe. Currently I am having a ton of trouble trying to get the system to let me change the URL alias (or create a second one) for the Security controller's login (and eventually logout) function. I have tried playing around with the routes.yml file and I tried creating the paths in my own UserController and loading directly from the Security controller with "return Security::login()". But that gives me errors about the use of the static functions. Unfortunately I don't come from a ton of object oriented experience and this is the first CMS I have used that actually uses a bunch of true object orientation. The current version of SilverStripe we are using is 3.0 (but we will be upgrading to 3.1.1 in a few days). Does anyone know much about the routing in SilverStripe?

  Using Play! framework and it's JPASupport class I have run into a problem with a legacy database. I have the following class: @Entity @Table(name="product_catalog") public class ProductCatalog extends JPASupport { @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.IDENTITY) public Integer product_catalog; @OneToOne @JoinColumn(name="upper_catalog") public ProductCatalog upper_catalog; public String name; } Some product catalogs don't have an upper catalog, and this is referenced as 0 in a legacy database. If I supply the upper_catalog as NULL, then expectedly JPA inserts a NULL value to that database column. How could I force the null values to be 0 when writing to the database and the other way around when reading from the database?
