  • Does django take SCRIPT_NAME into account when using the default LOGIN_URL

    Hi, I'm using Django 1.0.2 and trying to figure out how to get the @login_required working correctly. When I use the built-in server it redirects to the default login_url, or my LOGIN_URL as defined in settings.py as expected. What is not clear to me is how to deploy to the server where my site is not at the root. In my templates I use the url template tag, and in the views I can access request.META['SCRIPT_NAME'], but for some reason it doesn't seem to apply to the LOGIN_URL used. What am I missing? Thanks.

  • TinyMCE refresh issue

    I'm using TinyMCE, witch is working fine for the most part... when the user saves the page redirects to a a php page that extracts the textfield data and processes it, i wont elaborate cause that's no t the issue... the issue is that when it redirects back to the page... the textfield is blank and i can click on it but not see anything, if i type it enters(but i can't see it), this also happens when i go to the address directly, the only way i can see it is to hit the refresh button... i tried a meta refresh to the page... i tried disabling cache... any ideas would be great... thanks in advance

    Im trying to make a program that captures a video from the webcam and sound from the microphone but im getting stuck at the part where ive try to make a movie out of still images ive heard you need to use directshow but it doesnt jet work for me Does someone know a good piece of example code that captures video and sound and can encode it to a file (divx or something like that) ? or some suggestions where to look so i can build it myself (if a other programming language is better for this im happy to know it early. )

  • Writing a PHP web crawler using cron

    Hi all I have written myself a web crawler using simplehtmldom, and have got the crawl process working quite nicely. It crawls the start page, adds all links into a database table, sets a session pointer, and meta refreshes the page to carry onto the next page. That keeps going until it runs out of links That works fine however obviously the crawl time for larger websites is pretty tedious. I wanted to be able to speed things up a bit though, and possibly make it a cron job. Any ideas on making it as quick and efficient as possible other than setting the memory limit / execution time higher?

  • Planning a skillset for a fallback career [closed]

    I'm not too certain this is a SO question, but I didn't think it belonged in meta either. Long story short, I am bioinformatics researcher. I like to code, it's my favourite part of the job. I have been thinking for a while that if academia is not kind to me, I might seek a career in software development. My current contract is for three years and I would like to spend some time over the next 3 three years learning and practicing software development as possible. Python seems like a popular language and it what I mostly use to do things for me, but I am also in heavy use of R. So my main question is: Are python and R good things to be learning with a sotfware dev goal in mind, and if so, is there any particular type of programming or software that might be useful to have experience with.     Calling toString() on the function below returns different strings across browsers. I understand this is because ECMA-262 15.3.4.2 leaves wiggle room for each vendor. Chrome returns the comments in addition to all syntax. Sadly Firefox 3.6 omits the comments. Based on Firefox's behavior I haven't tested IE, Opera, or Safari. function foo() { /* comment */ var bar = true; } Specifically, I am attempting to embed meta data within a specially formatted comment block within a function. Later the return value of the functions toString() method would be parsed and values returned as an object. I've been unable to locate compatibility tables or alternatives to toString(). Does the community have any ideas? Btw, pre-processing JS files isn't an option. :( Thanks a lot. :)

    I'm trying to learn more about trust metrics (including related algorithms) and how user voting, ranking and rating systems can be wired to stiffle abuse. I've read abstract articles and papers describing trust metrics but haven't seen any actual implementations. My goal is to create a system that allows users to vote on other users and the content of other users and with those votes and related meta-data, determine if those votes can be applied to a users level or popularity. Have you used or seen some sort of trust system within a social graph? How did it work and what were its areas of strength and weaknesses?

    I have in my url patterns, urlpatterns += patterns('', (r'^(?P<path>.*)$', 'django.views.static.serve', {'document_root': '/home/tipu/Dropbox/dev/workspace/search/images'}) In my template when I do <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="{{ MEDIA_URL }}style.css" /> It serves the css just fine. But the file logo.png, that's in the same directory as style.css, doesn't show when I do this: <img src = "{{ MEDIA_URL }}logo.png" id = "logo" /> Any idea why?
