How to distinguish between new and returning anonymous Drupal users?

Is there an easy way (or a module) in Drupal to distinguish between anonymous users who have never created an account versus those who are returning but are not currently logged in? For non-returning (ie, completely new) users, I'd like to have a front page that is very streamlined and focused on registration as the call-to-action. However, if someone is a returning user but not currently logged in, I'd like to present a lot more information on the front page and have login as the main call-to-action. I realize both pages would still need to have both login and register options available, I just want to make the focus significantly different between the two.

I am trying to get a record from a database using an sql lookup (sql1). How can I get the Forever to write to a different log file every day?

I have a cluster of production servers running a Node.JS app via Forever. As far as I can tell, my options for log files are as follows: Let Forever do it on its own, in which case it will log to ~/.forever/XXXX.log Specify one specific log file for the entire life of the process What I'd like to do, however, is have it log to a different file every day. eg. 20121027.log, 20121028.log, etc. Is this possible? If so, how can it be done?

.NET prerequisites, 3.5sp1 but no 3.5? problem with 4.0?

The title is confusing but the problem is not so much. I made a prerequisite with the default 3.5sp1 and windows installer 3.1. I ran it in my VM and to my surprise it asked me to install .NET. I checked the version and i have .NET 2 sp1, 3 sp1, 3.5, and two variants of 4.0 (client and extended beta). I looked in prerequisites and there doesnt seem to be an options for a non 3.5sp1. Is there some way i can select the non sp1? or compile so i dont need sp1? (it crashes upon startup but i am willing to bet i forgot a resource file)

How can I make the small icon(16x16)?

Hi All, I found it difficult to make small icons look clear and clean. For instance, I made the 16x16 size icons, they looked ok in PS or AI, but after saved them as some other image types, they are not that clear at all. Is that because i used wrong color or wrong tools? I wonder if there are some special tools for making extremely small icons. So any options? How i can make them look more clear and clean? How to turn one server into many servers? (Virtualization/VMWare)

I'm hoping for a high level discussion of this problem I know is quickly approaching my application. I have a server that binds on a specific port and manages TCP Sockets from my clients. I know that it is common practice to use VMWare to virtualize servers and run multiple servers at once. How can a single server design be changed to support multiple servers? Multiple servers can't bind to the same port. If I had to guess I would say a proxy server binds to the port and then sends connections off to the other servers to be handled as if it was still a single server application. I'm wondering what options there are and what are the common practices for solving this problem? Thanks in advance!

Apple in-app-purchase ALWAYS with 30 % for Apple?

Hi all, I know that Apple keeps 30 % of the money I make with in-app-purchase. But does that always count? I mean, if there's a feature allowing the user to buy something with an SMS-message, is that allowed? If yes, does Apple also keep 30 % then? Or if I make a WebService-call with username/password and return something to the user then, is it possible to charge that call and keep the money for myself? I thougt that those are options which are not allowed, but there are some apps out there which exactly do it that way - are they only "lucky" and Apple didn't see that or is it allowed to sell services that way? aspx page with gridview runs very fast in IE but 20% of the speed on Firefox

Hi there I have a simple aspx page with some search options which queries an SQLEXpress database, and it is displayed in a gridview. For some reason, it runs lightning fast in IE but very slow in Firefox. It has very little code, a gridview a couple of images and a couple of textboxes and a search button. It was done with Expression Web so no additional code added. In production (not local) the speed is very noticiable when doing a search... IE displays the results almost instantly...Firefox might take 3-5 seconds. And everything else runs super fast as well in IE (update, delete etc). Is there a reason for this ? Thanks

Hello, I'm using DCMTK library for reading Dicom files (Image format used in medical image processing.) I'm having a problem in compiling this DCMTK source code. DCMTK uses some additional external libraries (zlib, tiff, libpng, libxml2, libiconv). I know that all libraries should be generated with same Code Generation Options. Error 0x800f0922 installing .NET 3.5 on Windows 8

I'm trying to install .NET 3.5 on my Windows 8 box and it keeps throwing Error 0x800f0922 at me. From what I've read on answers.microsoft.com and StackOverflow I gather the easiest way to fix this is to perform a system refresh, however this will remove all software I've installed from discs. I've just moved house, so I'd rather not do that as I don't know where all the installation media actually are for a lot of my software, so if possible I'd prefer to track down where the problem is actually occurring. (Also, I have a LOT of software installed. It'd take me a long time to reinstall it all, and I unfortunately haven't got that time.) The on-demand error screen sends me to KB2734782 (can't link it as I'm <10 rep), which doesn't help much. Why does DEP kill IE when accessing Microsoft FTP?

I start up IE (9.0.8112.16421) with about:blank and I go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/ I press Alt, click View and then Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer. At this point IE stops responding and eventually crashes (though the window is still active, sometimes) and I get the usual Windows dialog box saying that the program has stopped working. From this dialog box I click on the option to try to find solutions to the problem and the progress bar just keeps scrolling without giving me any result page whatsoever, so I have to abort by clicking Cancel. Then I get the bubble type of pop-up message from the system tray saying that DEP has stopped the program from executing. What gives? Why would DEP (part of Microsoft Windows) be preventing IE (a Microsoft product) from performing a perfectly legitimate action from Microsoft's own FTP site? The OS is Windows Vista HP SP2, Swedish locale. Screenshots as follows... Update: I normally have UAC disabled, but I have discovered that enabling it has an effect on IE when I click the FTP option from the View menu, just as I suspected. I basically tried starting IE in its 32-bit and 64-bit version, with and without add-ons, and switching UAC on and off, and then trying to go to View and the FTP option (as shown above). Here are the results. With UAC off and DEP on Action: IE 32-bit, normal start, go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/, view menu, FTP option. Result: crash Action: IE 32-bit, extoff, go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/, view menu, FTP option. Result: crash Action: IE 64-bit, normal start, go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/, view menu, FTP option. Result: information & warning message Action: IE 64-bit, extoff, go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/, view menu, FTP option. Result: information & warning message This is the information and warning message I get if I use IE 64-bit: The first message is an FTP proxy warning. It says that the folder ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/ will be write-protected because proxy server is not configured to allow full access. It goes on to say that if I want to move, paste, change name or delete files I must use another type of proxy, and that I should contact the system admin for more information (the usual recommendation when they have no clue of what's going on). What the heck is all this about? I don't even use a proxy server, as you can see from the next screenshot (Internet Options, Connections, LAN settings dialog). That second message only states that the FTP site cannot be viewed in (Windows) Explorer. With UAC off, I always get these two messages when running the 64-bit version of IE. With UAC on and DEP on Action: IE 32-bit, normal start, go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/, view menu, FTP option. Result: crash Action: IE 32-bit, extoff, go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/, view menu, FTP option. Result: security warning message, prompts to allow action Action: IE 64-bit, normal start, go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/, view menu, FTP option. Result: security warning message, prompts to allow action Action: IE 64-bit, extoff, go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/, view menu, FTP option. Result: security warning message, prompts to allow action As you can see from this list, if I have UAC enabled I actually get rid of these messages and opening the FTP site in Windows Explorer (from IE) actually works (except for 32-bit version which still crashes). Here is the security warning message: The fact that the 32-bit IE still crashes could be an indicator that this has something to do with one or several add-ons in that bit-version of IE. The 32-bit IE doesn't crash if it's started with the extoff flag. If this is affecting only the 32-bit IE then it's only normal that the 64-bit IE doesn't have this problem because it would not be using any of the add-ons used by the 32-bit version, they are not compatible with 64-bit (although some add-ons work both with 32-bit and 64-bit IE). Figuring out which add-on (if any) is causing this problem is a whole new question... but I seem to be closer to an answer now, and a possible solution. I could of course just add IE (32-bit) in the exclusion list of DEP. In fact, I have already tested this and it causes IE to perform this task without hiccups. But I don't really want to disable DEP, or force it on all Windows programs and services (except the ones I strictly specify in the exception list). (In other words DEP can't really be completely disabled, you can only switch between two modes of operation.) Update 2: This is interesting... I start 32-bit IE, go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/ and click on View, and Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer. The result is a crash!! Then I start 32-bit IE with extoff flag to disable add-ons, I go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/ and click on View, and Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer. I get the security warning, as expected with UAC enabled, and it opens up in Windows Explorer. Now... I close Windows Explorer, and I close IE. I then start 32-bit IE (normal start, with add-ons), I go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/ and click on View, and Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer. Now this time it doesn't crash! Instead, I get the screenshot number 5 as seen above. This is the FTP proxy warning message. Now get this... if I click the close button to get rid of this message, what happens is that Firefox starts up, and it goes to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/ The fact that this works with 32-bit IE (with add-ons) the second time around, is because I am still logged in as anonymous to the FTP server. The log-in has not timed out yet. Standard log-in timeout for FTP servers is usually 60 to 120 seconds. I got logged in to it the first time I ran 32-bit IE with the extoff flag (no add-ons) which actually works and connects using Windows Explorer. Update 3: The connection to the FTP server has timed out by now. So now if I run 32-bit IE (with add-ons) and repeat the steps as before it crashes, just as expected... In conclusion: If I have already been connected to the FTP server via Windows Explorer, and I go to this FTP address in 32-bit IE and I pick the FTP option from the view menu to open it in Windows Explorer, it gives me a FTP proxy server warning and then opens the address in default web browser (Firefox in my case). If I have not been connected to the FTP server via Windows Explorer previously, and I go to this FTP address in 32-bit IE and I pick the FTP option from the view menu top open it in Windows Explorer, then it crashes IE! This is just great... It's not that I care much for using Internet Explorer or the Windows Explorer to log in to FTP servers. This just shows why IE is not the best browser choice. This reminds me of the time when Microsoft was enforcing the use of Internet Explorer as default browser for opening web links and other web resources, despite the fact that the user had installed an alternative browser on the system. Even if the user explicitly set the default browser to be something else and not Internet Explorer in the Windows options, IE would still pop up sometimes, depending on what web resources the user was trying to access. Setting default browser had no effect. It was hard-coded that IE is the browser of choice, especially when accessing Microsoft product or help pages. The web page would actually say that you are not using IE, and that you must open it in IE to view it. Unfortunately you would not be able to open it manually in a different browser by simply copying and pasting the URL from the address bar, because it would show a different URL, and the original URL would re-direct to the "you are using the wrong browser" page so you would not have the time to cut it to clipboard. Thankfully those days are over. Now-days Microsoft is forced to distribute IE and WMP free versions of Windows for the EU market. The way it should be! These programs have to be optional, not mandatory.

Can't connect to samba

Windows 7, connecting to Samba shares I have a follow up question from the link above. I am running Samba 3.0.23d on FreeBSD is release 7.1 I changed the policies as described above but still cannot connect to the samba server with the windows 7 or a server 2008. I feel it is a problem with recognizing the new machines on the network. the windows machines can see the samba server, but cannot connect to it or view any of the files. After changing the security policies the samba server asked for network id and password but would not allow the machine to connect, said they were unknown username or bad password. Trouble connecting to vsftpd on ubuntu server

I have installed Ubuntu Server 10.10 and I am using it to host a domain that I have. I am trying to set up FTP for the server, but I am running into some problems. I have successfully installed vsFTPd and I have opened up ports 20, 21 on my firewall. In my vsFTPd configuration, I have enabled SSL. Every time I try to connect to my server via FTP, I receive a "Connection Refused" error. I have had a little more success with SSL disabled, however the connection process will time out after the LIST command (but it does accept my authentication). Lighttpd not cleanly restarting (address already in use)

When doing a dist-upgrade recently, my lighttpd-1.4.19 install on Ubuntu 8.0.4 has begun failing to restart or reload properly with the /etc/init.d/lighttpd restart command. ~$ sudo /etc/init.d/lighttpd restart * Stopping web server lighttpd ...done. * Starting web server lighttpd 2009-06-13 04:06:36: (network.c.300) can't bind to port: 80 Address already in use ...fail! The same error occurs when I do a reload. The way I get around it is to kill lighttpd and then issue the start command, but it seems like I shouldn't have to do that :) I've looked at my config files, and can't spot any immediate errors. Does anyone have any ideas what can be causing this error? This seems to be the latest version as of writing this question that is available via the apt-get route. Can't Get Virtual Users Setup in VSFTPD -Tried Everything

Have Ubuntu 11.10 with vsftpd installed and working. Can not get virtual users setup at all? Vsftpd will allow main Ubuntu owner account to login, but nothing else? I've followed several tutorials on adding virtual users, but nothing works? I just need to add 2 virtual users and have them be able to upload files to vsftpd Ubuntu computer from other computers on my Lan network. Everywhere I've looked, people just point toward tutorials on adding virtual users, but that just is NOT working. I've been struggling with this for over a week now! PLEASE Help. Thanks. I'll even give a donation if someone can figure this out. here is the vsftpd.conf file I am using. I copied the original, and make a new one, every time I try a tutorial. So far, none have worked. Slow draw on some apps and dynamic clocks not working properly with ATI/AMD proprietary drivers

I've recently purchased a new computer (around July 2010) and I've been having some problems with proprietary video drivers on Linux. The hardware is: Video: ATI/AMD Radeon HD 5870 (XFX HD-587X-ZNFC); Motherboard: Asus P7P55D-E Deluxe; Processor: Intel i5 750; Memory: Kingston Hyperx KHX1600C8D3K2/4GX (2x - 8GB Total); Power Supply: XFX P1-750B-CAG9; There are no overclocks, not even the memories (they are at 1333mhz due processor memory controller limitation). The operational system is a homebrew Linux distribution with the following software: Architecture: x86_64 (multilib) Kernel: 2.6.35.10 Xorg: 7.5 Window Manager: wmii-3.9.2 Video Driver: ATI/AMD Catalyst 10.12 There are no desktop effects programs like compiz fusion or beryl. The problems: With ATI/AMD proprietary driver, some applications are with slow draw/redraw, and, the same applications make the driver to increase the card clocks to maximum (0% gpu activity, only the clocks are increased). I dunno exactly how to describe the slow draw but I'll list some applications and symptoms. xterm Flickers a lot when drawing continuous output; When I'm in a workspace with fullscreen xterm, The gpu load stays at 12% in idle, and, with smaller xterm, smaller GPU load. "aticonfig --odgc" output: Default Adapter - ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series Core (MHz) Memory (MHz) Current Clocks : 157 300 Current Peak : 850 1200 Configurable Peak Range : [600-900] [900-1300] GPU load : 12% "aticonfig --pplib-cmd 'get activity'" output: Current Activity is Core Clock: 157MHZ Memory Clock: 300MHZ VDDC: 950 Activity: 12 percent Performance Level: 0 Bus Speed: 5000 Bus Lanes: 16 Maximum Bus Lanes: 16 More examples: mplayer time info flickers on terminal; "find /" flickers a lot (It takes some time to stop with control-c. But, If I change the workspace or put some window upon it, just after the control-c, it stops instantly); "cat somefile" if the file is big (Xorg.0.log for example) it takes some time to display; vim and less (ex: find / | less) don't have much problems, just a little flicker when scrolling; mplayer (no gui) Slow reproduction and seek with -vo x11; Tearing with -vo xv; Time info flickers on terminal (xterm consequence); gvim A little slow draw when scrolling with page up/page down; Firefox Slow draw/redraw on some pages like www.boadica.com.br and sometimes on www.youtube.com with flash enable (never noticed on many pages); Corruptions when informative yellow boxes are showing and scroll the page (an gray box appears at the same place of the informative box); "Wallpaper" After minimizing a fullscreen window or changing to an empty workspace it takes some time to redraw wallpaper. "Video Card" The core and memory clocks are increased with the events described above and on other situations like change workspace (even without wallpaper), minimize, maximize or move a window; Idle clocks: Core: 157mhz, Memory: 300mhz Full clocks: Core: 850mhz, Memory: 1200mhz xpdf Painful slow scrolling; display (from ImageMagick) Slow menus and sometimes slow image redraw; Programs that I use and are apparently without problems: gimp; pidgin; mplayer (-vo gl, gl2); blender; unigine heaven (better fps than on Windows); doom3; tibia; penumbra overture; amnesia the dark descent (wine); diablo 2 (wine); No problems on Windows (Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit). And special note to this: Full desktop effects from Debian and Ubuntu gnome appearance cpanel don't cause ANY problems, even the core and memory clocks don't increase when change workspace, minimize, maximize or move a window. What I've tested: Unsuccessful tests: Tested all drivers versions since 10.6 (released approximately when I've installed the first slackware in this PC); Tested other video card - ATI/AMD Radeon HD 5570 (XFX HD-557X-ZHF2); Tested some options on xorg.conf and that I've found googling (some of these options are commented on my xorg.conf. I'll send the links at the end of post); Tested some patches like 107_fedora_dont_fill_bg_none.patch and xserver-xorg-backclear.patch from Arch Linux Catalyst page (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI_Catalyst); Tested other distros and software versions: Tested XORG-7.6 on my own distribution; Tested Debian Squeeze (testing - from 2010-12-20); Tested Ubuntu Marverick (10.10); Tested Slackware 13.1; Distros info: Architecture: i386 Debian and Ubuntu with all default software (kernel, gnome, xorg, drivers); Slackware with Catalyst from AMD page and default window managers like: fvwm, xfce, and my own build of wmii; Successful tests: Tested other video card (only on my homebrew distro) - NVIDIA Geforce 7300GS with driver 260.19.29; That didn't shown the slow draw problems, but that card is a bit obsolete, so, dunno if that lacks features like the dynamic clocks. I don't dispose of other video cards like nvidia g/gt/gts/gtx 200~400~500 or Radeon HD 3000/4000/6000 to make more tests. Tested other hardware: Video: ATI/AMD Radeon HD 5570 (XFX HD-557X-ZHF2); Motherboard: Intel DG31PR; Processor: Core 2 Duo E6750; Software for that hardware: Fresh install of same distros (except for the mine) with same program versions; That video card (HD 5570) were full time at the maximum clocks (something like 500/750, don't remember) in all the operational systems (Windows XP and Windows 7 too), but it didn't shown the same problems that I have here. I've googled a lot about common problems with ATI/AMD proprietary drivers for Linux and didn't find similar problems, except by the Firefox corruptions, that the solutions were to disable ATI Direct2DAccel and use XAA. With XAA the problems persists and the other applications like pidgin and rest of Firefox showed the same problems of slow draw/redraw. Open source Drivers: With open source drivers (xf86-video-ati-6.13.2) I hadn't the same slow draw problems, but, had other problems, that, for now, make it no viable solution. I'll not discuss it here because this is another line of problems and will confuse everything. If it happens to be the only solution, I'll make another thread to discuss it. rsync over ssh is not working anymore, while ssh itself is working fine (Write failed: broken pipe)

This issue started happening after i changed router. This is the scenario: Windows7 Host Ubuntu 10.04 Guest (VirtualBox) Ubuntu 10.04 remote server What i used to do is run a very basic rsync command: rsync -avz --delete /local/path/ username@host:/path/to/remote/directory This worked perfect until i did change adsl provider, and i changed router aswell: now, this happens: rsync on Ubuntu Guest is not working anymore (to any random server), if using this new router rsync on Ubuntu Guest is WORKING, if i switch back to old router i tried a new virtual box ubuntu install, and the command is WORKING with both the routers So, the not-working-combo is oldUbuntu + newRouter. To get things worst, i can state that (on the not-working ubuntu) i ping the remote host plain ssh connection to the remote host is working fine (i can auth, connect, and do stuff on the remote host) DNS resolution problems; dig SERVFAIL error

I'm setting up a couple of dedicated servers, and having problems setting up my nameservers properly. One of these is a LEMP server (LAMP with nginx in place of Apache), and the other will function solely as an email server, running exim/dovecot/ASSP antispam (no Apache). The LEMP server is CentOS 5.5, with no control panel, while the email server is CentOS 5.5 as well, with cPanel/WHM. So, I've had problems getting DNS set up properly. I have two domains, each one pointing to one of these servers. The nameservers are registered correctly with the domain registrar, and the nameserver IPs are entered correctly as well. I've spoken to tech support at the registrar and they confirm that everything is set up on their end. Not knowing much about DNS, I googled nameservers and DNS until I nearly went blind, and spent hours messing with the configuration. Eventually, I got the LEMP server's DNS working properly (no cPanel). Pleased with this triumph, I'm trying to mimic that configuration and repeat the process with the email server, and it's just not happening. The nameserver starts and stops, but the domain doesn't resolve. Things I have tried Going through standard procedures to set up DNS in WHM Clearing all DNS information, uninstalling BIND, then reinstalling all of that and again going through WHM procedures for setting up DNS Clearing all DNS information, and setting up BIND via shell (completely outside of cPanel) by using my config and zone files from the LEMP server as a template named runs just fine, but nothing is resolving. When I "dig any example.com" I get a SERVFAIL message. Nslookups return no information. So, in summary: *Nameservers, with IPs, are correctly registered with domain registrar *named is configured and running *...and must not be configured correctly, because nothing resolves. Any help would be great. I changed domains and IPs in the files to generics, but let me know if you need to know the domain in question. Thanks! UPDATE I found that I didn't have 127.0.0.1 in /etc/resolv.conf, so I added it, along with my two public IPs that I have named listening on. resolv.conf search www.example.com example.com nameserver 127.0.0.1 nameserver 7.8.9.10 ;Was in here by default, authoritative nameserver of hosting company nameserver 1.2.3.4 ;Public IP #1 nameserver 1.2.3.5 ;Public IP #2 Now when I DIG example.com from the host, it resolves. I am having a headache with DNS. Lets say my public IP is 1.2.3.4, my local IP is 192.168.0.10 and my domain is example.com I am running CentOS on a virtual machine (Parallels Desktop for Mac) with a LAN card reserved for it, so it gets Ip directly from the router. I have ports 80,443,53 forwarded to 192.168.0.10. Both Mac OS and CentOs firewalls are Off. "Can't Connect to Server" from 2nd virtual host on VPS

I'm using Debian 7 Wheezy and Apache 2.2.22, and I'm setting up Virtual Hosts for a number of websites on my VPS. I've successfully configured the VirtualHost directives for one of the sites, but the second one continually gives "Problem Loading Page" in Firefox. I've run configtest and it has verified all my syntax is correct, and I've checked all the permissions. I'm wondering if I need to set up individual IPs for each site, possibly? I have 2 more IPv4 and 3 IPv6 addresses available, if that would make a difference. Also, in the grand scheme of things, I will need to enable SSL for the first site. I've been reading that I'll need to basically just mimic the directives for listening on port 80, only on port 443, and make sure mod_ssl is enabled? EDIT: I just ran apache2 -t to test the config files that way, and got the error: apache2: bad user name ${APACHE_RUN_USER}. However, apachectl configtest returns Syntax OK. There are no other mentions of errors with the mutex anywhere else, however. I was pretty sure if there was an error with the user apache was supposed to run under, the server wouldn't start at all... EDIT 2: Restarting apache fixed the bad user name error.
