• Get all related products based on their full-text search relationship

  I have a Product table with the fields Id, Title, Description, Keywords (just comma separated list of keywords). Table is full-text indexed. When I view one product, I do a query and search the full-text catalog for any related products based on the Keywords field. select * from Products where Contains(Products.*, @keywordsFromOneProduct) Works like a charm. Now I would like to list all products and all their related products in a big list and I want to avoid calling this method for each item. Any ideas how could I do it? I was thinking about a job that would go through products one by one and build a one-many mapping table (fields ProductId, RelatedProductId), but I wonder is there a better way?

  We are developing a .net based CT based on Broker query Mechanism (filter): ComponentPresentationAssembler cpAssembler = new ComponentPresentationAssembler(Page ID,Page object); In order to pass the page ID, I need to get the access of page on which the component is present. How can I access the page from package? Since this a CT, a component object would be available in page and not a page object. Tried the following piece of code, but without success: string pageURI = _package.GetValue("Page.ID"); Page objPage = (Page)_engine.GetSession().GetObject(pageURI); This is not working as there is no page object. What are the alternatives so that we can access the parent page of component from CT?

• Weird SQL Server 2005 Collation difference between varchar() and nvarchar()

  Can someone please explain this: SELECT CASE WHEN CAST('iX' AS nvarchar(20)) > CAST('-X' AS nvarchar(20)) THEN 1 ELSE 0 END, CASE WHEN CAST('iX' AS varchar(20)) > CAST('-X' AS varchar(20)) THEN 1 ELSE 0 END Results: 0 1 SELECT CASE WHEN CAST('i' AS nvarchar(20)) > CAST('-' AS nvarchar(20)) THEN 1 ELSE 0 END, CASE WHEN CAST('i' AS varchar(20)) > CAST('-' AS varchar(20)) THEN 1 ELSE 0 END Results: 1 1 On the first query, the nvarchar() result is not what I'm expecting, and yet removing the X make the nvarchar() sort happen as expected. (My original queries used the '' and N'' literal syntax to distinguish varchar() and nvarchar() rather than CAST() and got the same result.) Collation setting for the database is SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS.

Is there any php function or class that I can use to generate tree structure for my data???? I see this MySql site they are doing exactly what I need but I couldn't find how to implement that query in my data. Thanks !

• How to do regex HTML tag replace in MS SQL?

  I have a table in SQL Server 2005 with hundreds of rows with HTML content. Some of the content has HTML like: <span class=heading-2>Directions</span> where "Directions" changes depending on page name. I need to change all the <span class=heading-2> and </span> tags to <h2> and </h2> tags. I wrote this query to do content changes in the past, but it doesn't work for my current problem because of the ending HTML tag: Update ContentManager Set ContentManager.Content = replace(Cast(ContentManager.Content AS NVARCHAR(Max)), 'old text', 'new text') Does anyone know how I could accomplish the span to h2 replacing purely in T-SQL? Everything I found showed I would have to do CLR integration. Thanks!

• LINQ DataLoadOptions - Retrieval of data via Fulltext/Broken Foreign Key Relationship

  I've hit a brick wall: I have an SQL Function: FUNCTION [dbo].[ContactsFTS] (@searchtext nvarchar(4000)) RETURNS TABLE AS RETURN SELECT * FROM Contacts INNER JOIN CONTAINSTABLE(Contacts, *, @searchtext) AS KEY_TBL ON Contacts.Id = KEY_TBL.[KEY] which I am calling via LINQ public IQueryable<ContactsFTSResult> SearchByFullText(String searchText) { return db.ContactsFTS(searchText); } I am projecting the ContactsFTSResult collection into a List<Contact> which is then given to my viewmodel. Here is the problem: My Contacts table (and therefore the Contact object created via LINQ to SQL) has multiple FK relationships to other information, such as Contact.BillingAddressId is an FK to an Address.Id. That information is missing after I do the fulltext search (e.g. if I try to access Contact.BillingAddress it is null). Can I add this information somehow via DataLoadOptions? I tried LoadWith<Contact>(c => c.BillingAddress) but this doesn't work, I assume because of the fact that I'm calling the function instead of doing the whole query via LINQ.

• How to create a backup from SqlAlchemy?

  I'm writing a Pylons app, and am trying to create a simple backup system where every table is serialized and tarred up into a single file for an administrator to download, and use to restore the app should something bad happen. I can serialize my table data just fine using the SqlAlchemy serializer, and I can deserialize it fine as well, but I can't figure out how to commit those changes back to the database. In order to serialize my data I am doing this: from myproject.model.meta import Session from sqlalchemy.ext.serializer import loads, dumps q = Session.query(MyTable) serialized_data = dumps(q.all()) In order to test things out, I go ahead and truncation MyTable, and then attempt to restore using serialized_data: from myproject.model import meta restore_q = loads(serialized_data, meta.metadata, Session) This doesn't seem to do anything... I've tried calling a Session.commit after the fact, individually walking through all the objects in restore_q and adding them, but nothing seems to work. What am I missing? Or is there a better way to do what I'm aiming for? I don't want to shell out and directly touch the database, since SqlAlchemy supports different database engines.

  I am working on an application which requires matching of numbers from a scanned image file to database entry and update the database with the match result. Say I have image- employee1.jpg. This image will have two two handwritten entries - Employee number and the amount to be paid to the employee. I have to read the employee number from the image and query the database for the that number, update the employee with the amount to be paid as got from the image. Both the employee number and amount to be paid are written inside two boxes at a specified place on the image. Is there any way to automate this. Basically I want a solution in .net using c#. I know this can be done using artificial neural networks. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

  Hi, i am not sure if this is the correct term, but this is what id like to do: I have an application that uses a mssql database. This application can operate in 3 modes. mode 1) user does not alter, but only read the database mode 2) user can add rows (one at a time) onto a table in the database mode 3) user can alter several tables in the database (one person at a time) question 1) how can i ensure that when a user in in mode 3 that the database will "lock" and all logged in users who operate in mode 2 or mode 3 will not be able to change the database until he finishes? question 2) how can i ensure that while there are several users in mode 2, that there will be no conflict while they all update the table? my guess here, is that before adding a new row, you make a server query for the table's current unique keys and add the new entry. will this be safe enough though? • MSSQL Search Proper Names Full Text Index vs LIKE + SOUNDEX

  I have a database of names of people that has (currently) 35 million rows. I need to know what is the best method for quickly searching these names. The current system (not designed by me), simply has the first and last name columns indexed and uses "LIKE" queries with the additional option of using SOUNDEX (though I'm not sure this is actually used much). Performance has always been a problem with this system, and so currently the searches are limited to 200 results (which still takes too long to run). So, I have a few questions: Does full text index work well for proper names? If so, what is the best way to query proper names? (CONTAINS, FREETEXT, etc) Is there some other system (like Lucene.net) that would be better? Just for reference, I'm using Fluent NHibernate for data access, so methods that work will with that will be preferred. I'm using MS SQL 2008 currently.

  I'm trying to use the jQuery get function to render the results of an HTML page in a div on my page. The result of the get function appears to be successful because the value of textStatus (in the following code block) is "success". Is there a way to avoid using Expression.Or() and create ICrietrion / ICriteria using LINQ or HQL?

  All the ways I can think to do this seem very hackish. What is the right way to do this, or at least most common? I am retrieving a set of images from a LINQ-to-SQL query and databinding it and some other data to a repeater. I need to add a textbox to each item in the repeater that will let the user change the title of each image, very similar to Flickr. How do I access the textboxes in the repeater control and know which image that textbox belongs to? • Best practices for querying an entire row in a database table? (MySQL / CodeIgniter)

  Sorry for the novice question! I have a table called cities in which I have fields called id, name, xpos, ypos. I'm trying to use the data from each row to set a div's position and name. What I'm wondering is what's the best practice for dynamically querying an unknown amount of rows (I don't know how many cities there might be, I want to pull the information from all of them) and then passing the variables from the model into the view and then setting attributes with it? Right now I've 'hacked' a solution where I run a different function each time which pulls a value using a query ('SELECT id FROM cities;'), then I store that in a global array variable and pass it into view. I do this for each var so I have arrays called: city_idVar, city_nameVar, city_xposVar, city_yposVar then I know that the city_nameVar[0] matches up with city_xposVar[0] etc. Is there a better way?

• Case insensitive string compare in LINQ-to-SQL

  I've read that it's unwise to use ToUpper and ToLower to perform case-insensitive string comparisons, but I see no alternative when it comes to LINQ-to-SQL. The ignoreCase and CompareOptions arguments of String.Compare are ignored by LINQ-to-SQL (if you're using a case-sensitive database, you get a case-sensitive comparison even if you ask for a case-insensitive comparison). Is ToLower or ToUpper the best option here? Is one better than the other? I thought I read somewhere that ToUpper was better, but I don't know if that applies here. (I'm doing a lot of code reviews and everyone is using ToLower.) Dim s = From row In context.Table Where String.Compare(row.Name, "test", StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase) = 0 This translates to an SQL query that simply compares row.Name with "test" and will not return "Test" and "TEST" on a case-sensitive database.

• What's the simplest way to create a Zend_Form tabular display with each row having a radio button?

  I've seen simple examples of rendering a Zend_Form using decorators, but I'm not sure they are able to handle the issue I'm facing very well. I query the database and get an array of user objects. I want to display these users as a form, with a radio button next to each of them and a submit button at the bottom of the page. These are my tables. student table: SID (primary) student_name advisor (foreign key to faculty.facultyID) requested_advisor (foreign key to faculty.facultyID) faculty table: facultyID (primary key) advisor_name I want to query a table that shows everything in the student table, but I want advisor and requested_advisor to show up as names, not the ID numbers. so like it displays like this on the webpage: Student Name: Jane Smith SID: 860123456 Current Advisor: John Smith Requested advisor: James Smith not like this Student Name: Jane Smith SID: 860123456 Current Advisor: 1 Requested advisor: 2 SELECT student.student_name, SID, student_email, faculty.advisor_name FROM student INNER JOIN faculty ON student.advisor = faculty.facultyID; this comes out close, but I don't know how to get the requested_advisor to show up as a name.

  Is there an equivalent library for JAXB in .NET? I am trying to convert an XML I get to a .NET class. I have the XSD, but not sure how to convert the XML received into a concrete Class? I used the XSD tool to generate a class from the schema, but what I want to to convert the XML I receive on the fly to a object that I can work with in code. I've seen the thread here that deals with this, but my query is - I want the object created to contain the data that I receive in the XML (i.e. the field values must be populated).

• Trying to use VB to automate some queries. Running into what looks like a string problem

  Hi there I'm using MS Access 2003 and I'm trying to execute a few queries at once using VB. When I write out the query in SQL it works fine, but when I try to do it in VB it asks me to "Enter Parameter Value" for DEPA, then DND (which are the first few letters of a two strings I have). • Building highly scalable web services

  My team and I are in the middle of developing an application which needs to be able to handle pretty heavy traffic. Not facebook level but in the future I would like to be able to scale to that without massive code re-writes. My thought was to modularise out everything into seperate services with their own interfaces. So for example messaging would have a messaging interface that might have send and getMessages() as methods and then the PHP web app would simply query this interface through soap or curl or something like that. The messaging application could then be any kind of application so a Java application or Python or whatever was suitable for that particular functionality with its own seperate database shard. Is this a good approach?

• How can I programatically convert SQL data-types to .Net data-types?

  Can anyone show me a way of converting SQL Server data-types (varchar for example) to .Net data-types (String for example). I'm assuming that automatic conversion is not possible? I have an 'EntityProperty' object and would like it to have an appropriate 'Type' property (string, decimal, int32 etc), at the moment this property is just a string - 'int32' for example. A little background: I'm using SQL DMO in an internal code generation app to query a database and generate a stored procedure based DAL from the database. Being an internal app I can take quite a few shortcuts and make quite a few assumptions. To get the app working at the moment this data-type conversion is handled by a Select Case statement which just converts the types to strings and generates a set of properties based on these strings but I would prefer a little more flexibility in being able to handle the types (use of TypeOf etc). Anyone worked on something similar? I know EF, nHibernate, Subsonic etc could do all this for me but in this case, for various reasons, I am having to roll my own. :)
