  • How do I clear the text contents of a div in javascript?

    - by Ben
    I'm temporarily adding contents to a div,tempDiv, and adding that to a link which is appended to a div, #contentHere, that's displayed. I need to clear the contents of tempDiv so that the links aren't appended to each other, creating a string of urls that don't link to anywhere. $(document).ready(function(){ $.getJSON("data.php", function(data){ for(i = 0; i < 5; i++){ $("#tempDiv").append(data.justIn[i].dataLink+ ' '); $("#contentHere").append("<a href=\"#tempDiv\">Click to go to the div link</a>"); //I need to clear the contents of tempDiv here } }); }); Solutions to clearing the temporary contents of the div as I go?

  • Wait for function to finish before executing the rest

    - by Wurlitzer
    When the user refreshes the page, defaultView() is called, which loads some UI elements. $.address.change() should execute when defaultView() has finished, but this doesn't happen all the time. $.address.change() cannot be in the success: callback, as it's used by the application to track URL changes. defaultView(); function defaultView() { $('#tout').fadeOut('normal', function() { $.ajax({ url: "functions.php", type: "GET", data: "defaultview=true", async: false, success: function (response) { $('#tout').html(response).fadeIn('normal'); } }); }); } $.address.change(function(hash) { hash = hash.value; getPage(hash); }); I'm at a loss as to how to make $.address.change() wait for defaultView() to finish. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Dynamically change embedded video src in IE/Chrome (works in Firefox)

    - by macca1
    I'm trying to dynamically change an embedded video on a page. It's working in Firefox but for some reason it's not working in IE and Chrome (strange combination). Here's the HTML: <object id="viewer" width="575" height="344"> <param name="wmode" value="transparent" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Lmn94kn08Lw&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6&rel=0" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <embed id="embeddedPlayer" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Lmn94kn08Lw&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="575" height="344" wmode="transparent"></embed> </object> And here's my javascript code. A link is clicked to change the video: $("#video a").click( function() { var videoAddress = $(this).attr("href"); $("#embeddedPlayer").attr("src", videoAddress); return false; // stop the default link so it just reloads in the video player } ); Like I said the videos are changing perfectly in Firefox but in IE and Chrome nothing happens. Any ideas?

  • Calling a Function Based on a String Which Contains the Function Name

    - by Phonethics
    var foo1,foo2; switch (fn) { case "fade" : foo1 = "fadeOut"; foo2 = "fadeIn"; break; case "slide" : foo1 = "slideUp"; foo2 = "slideDown"; break; } eval("$('.cls1')." + foo1 + "();"); currentSlideIndex = currentSlideIndex + n; eval("$('.cls1')." + foo2 + "();"); Any better way to achieve this without using eval ? Im not a very big fan of using eval unless absolutely necessary.

  • looping through new div as they are created

    - by eknown
    I have a div, let's call it class="phoneNo". Inside the div there are two links, one to add another div just like it, and another to delete the div itself. I'm trying to create a loop where if there's only 1 of these divs, the "delete" link should hide, and if there are more than 1 of these divs, the "delete" link should show up on all the divs. So far I came up with this, but no success: var pCount = $(".phoneNo").length; $(pCount).each(function(){ if (pCount <= 1) { $("a.deleteThis").hide(); } else if (pCount >= 1) { $("a.deleteThis").show(); } return true; });

  • How to simulate a close() in facebox

    - by Bragaadeesh
    Hi, I am using facebox popup in one of my pages. I am having a button in the popup dialog. When I click that button the facebox popup should close (the same way it closes when we press outside the popup). How to do that? Also, I am doing some Ajax stuff when that button is being pressed so I cannot override the onClick event.

Something like this doesn't work.(and I just try the 2 first things): $(function(){ $("#green").click(function() { $(this).siblings(".red").fadeOut("slow"); $(this).parent().not(this).children(".red").fadeIn("slow"); }); })

  • value not posting to php script

    - by user3710364
    step1 batch in dynamically loaded after selecting one of the value from dropdown step 2 is loaded by ajax call in setp 2 when i click on edit step 3 is loaded via ajax call again in step 3 when i click on edit ajax call is working fine but its nit posting the value to php script //ajax call function validateFees(strAddNo) { var collectFees = $("#collectFees").val(); if(collectFees == "") { $("#validateFeesResult").html('<div class="info">Please enter your Fees Amount.</div>'); $("#collectFees").focus(); } else { var dataString = 'collectFees' + collectFees + 'strAddNo' + strAddNo; $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "validateFees_script.php", data: dataString, cache: false, beforeSend: function() { $("#validateFeesResult").html('Loading...'); }, success: function(response) { $("#validateFeesResult").hide().fadeIn('slow').html(response); } }); } } I'm sure it's extremely simple but I'm not understanding how to do it?

  • click handler after using Ajax

    - by Tom
    I have a site that plays a stream. I perform an AJAX call to the server once a person presses a button. <input type="submit" class="play" data-type="<?php echo $result_cameras[$i]["camera_type"]; ?>" data-hash="<?php echo $result_cameras[$i]["camera_hash"]; ?>" value="<?php echo $result_cameras[$i]["camera_name"]; ?>"> This prints out a bunch of buttons that the user can select. This is processed by the following code: <script> $(document).ready(function(){ $(".play").click(function(){ var camerahash = $(this).data('hash'); var cameratype = $(this).data('type'); function doAjax(){ $.ajax({ url: 'index.php?option=streaming&task=playstream&id_hash=<?php echo $id_hash; ?>&camera_hash='+camerahash+'&format=raw', success: function(data) { if (data == 'Initializing...please wait') { $('#quote p').html(data); setTimeout(doAjax, 2000); } else { if (cameratype == "WEBCAM" && data == 'Stream is ready...') { $('#quote p').html(data); window.location = 'rtsp://<?php echo DEVSTREAMWEB; ?>/<?php echo $session_id;?>/'+camerahash; } else if (cameratype == "AXIS" && data == 'Stream is ready...') { $('#quote p').html(data); window.location = 'rtsp://<?php echo DEVSTREAMIP; ?>/<?php echo $session_id;?>/'+camerahash; } else { $('#quote p').html(data); } } } }); } doAjax(); }); }); </script> The server returns the messages such as Stream is ready.... My problem is that everything is working great except on additional button clicks. Specifically when they get success (video plays) and they exit back out, they don't get any other messages if they click another button. It is as if the click event is not triggered. Do I need to be doing something to the click handler to respond?

  • Insert something .after a set of elements if the first in the set has a certain class.

    - by Adripants
    I would like to add a label AFTER a group of radio inputs IF the first has a certain class <label>Has the strategy and all of it's relevant background documents been uploaded</label> <label for="Radio1"><input type="radio" name="uploaded" class="required cat1" id="Radio1">Yes</label> <label for="Radio2"><input type="radio" name="uploaded" id="Radio2">No</label> Radio1 has the class, but I'd like to insert a label after the last (in this case Radio2) I thought I could use this: $('input[type="radio"].cat1').siblings('input:last').after('<label>Hi!</label>'); But it doesn't work. Can you pick what I am doing wrong?

  • How to make this JavaScript much faster?

    - by Ralph
    Still trying to answer this question, and I think I finally found a solution, but it runs too slow. var $div = $('<div>') .css({ 'border': '1px solid red', 'position': 'absolute', 'z-index': '65535' }) .appendTo('body'); $('body *').live('mousemove', function(e) { var topElement = null; $('body *').each(function() { if(this == $div[0]) return true; var $elem = $(this); var pos = $elem.offset(); var width = $elem.width(); var height = $elem.height(); if(e.pageX > pos.left && e.pageY > pos.top && e.pageX < (pos.left + width) && e.pageY < (pos.top + height)) { var zIndex = document.defaultView.getComputedStyle(this, null).getPropertyValue('z-index'); if(zIndex == 'auto') zIndex = $elem.parents().length; if(topElement == null || zIndex > topElement.zIndex) { topElement = { 'node': $elem, 'zIndex': zIndex }; } } }); if(topElement != null ) { var $elem = topElement.node; $div.offset($elem.offset()).width($elem.width()).height($elem.height()); } }); It basically loops through all the elements on the page and finds the top-most element beneath the cursor. Is there maybe some way I could use a quad-tree or something and segment the page so the loop runs faster?

  • Select options not showing in IE

    - by donkapone
    I have a dynamically generated select with some options and it shows the options fine in normal browsers, but its empty options in IE. Here's the generated HTML: <select name="0" id="custom_0" style="border-bottom: #c0cedb 1px solid; border-left: #c0cedb 1px solid; background-color: #ededed; width: 280px; font-size: 0.87em; border-top: #c0cedb 1px solid; border-right: #c0cedb 1px solid"> <option id="1000" value="0" name="00">1x2GB ECC DDRIII 2GB ECC DDRIII</option> <option id="1001" value="10" name="01">2x2GB ECC DDRIII 4GB ECC DDRIII (+10.00 €)</option> </select> I can't really show you the javascript, since there's so much of it and I would be able to make it simple just for a demo. Maybe you had some of you would've had a similar experience and could figure this one out. Thanks I've added some javascript: $('#custom_order').append('<tr id="custom_'+category+'_row"><td'+padding+'>'+header+'<select id="custom_'+category+'" name="'+category+'" style="background-color:#EDEDED;border:1px solid #C0CEDB;width:280px;font-size:0.87em"></select>'+plusspan+'</td></tr>'); for (var i=0;i<components[category]['value'].length;i++){ $('#custom_'+category).append('<option id="'+components[category]['value'][i]['id']+'" value="'+components[category]['value'][i]['price']+'"></option>'); removals(category,i); dependencies(category,i); selectInput(category); } getDiff(category); getDiff() function adds the values to the options with html() function. The weird thing is, if I alert the html of the option just after the getDiff() function, it shows the value filled out. And it I put the getDiff() function in the for loop where the options are generated, it fills the values and shows them in IE, just not the last one. I'm calling getDiff() outside the loop for optimization, and since I can add the values later after all the options are generated. Well at least I thought I could, since it works on Firefox and Chrome.

  • Javascript: How to filter object array based on attributes?

    - by JGreig
    I have the following JavaScript JSON array of real estate home objects: var json = { 'homes' : [ { "home_id":"1", "price":"925", "sqft":"1100", "num_of_beds":"2", "num_of_baths":"2.0", }, { "home_id":"2", "price":"1425", "sqft":"1900", "num_of_beds":"4", "num_of_baths":"2.5", }, // ... (more homes) ... ]} var xmlhttp = eval('(' + json + ')'); homes = xmlhttp.homes; What I would like to do is be able to perform a filter on the object to return a subset of "home" objects. For example, I want to be able to filter based on: price, sqft, num_of_beds, and num_of_baths. Question: How can I perform something in javascript like the pseudo-code below: var newArray = homes.filter( price <= 1000 & sqft >= 500 & num_of_beds >=2 & num_of_baths >= 2.5); Note, the syntax does not have to be exactly like above. This is just an example.

  • Change iframe content within an element

    - by user610983
    $(document).ready(function () { $('#keywordframe').contents().find("#step12").html(''); $('#keywordframe').contents().find("#step12").html('11'); $('#keywordframe').contents().find("#step13").html(''); $('#keywordframe').contents().find("#step13").html('12'); $('#keywordframe').contents().find("#step14").html(''); $('#keywordframe').contents().find("#step14").html('13'); $('#keywordframe').contents().find("#step15").html(''); $('#keywordframe').contents().find("#step15").html('14'); }); I try to use the above code to change the content in an iframe, but it is not working. Unless I put alert(''); on top of $('#keywordframe').contents().find("#step12").html(''); if just will take effect. What is the reason for that, anyone could help?

    Why does this turn up null instead of being set to the data returned from the ajax call? It must be something simple i am overlooking. var message; $(document).ready(function(){ fbFetchMessage(); alert(message); }); function fbFetchMessage(){ var url = "http://graph.facebook.com/companyname/feed?callback=?"; $.getJSON(url,function(json){ message = json.data[0].message; }); }

  • How do I upload a file when I know the client's filepath?

    - by GJTorikian
    I'm interested in the way Sonic Living detects your iTunes library XML file. It prompts the user to approve its actions, then automatically uploads the XML file based on the client OS (and assuming the default installation path of iTunes). How the heck does it do that? None of the upload libraries I've looked at have this feature. They all assume that a user will click "Select file..." then browse around for the right thing to upload.

  • How does Facebook codes their Cropping tool?

    - by Trip
    I ask this because I am currently trying to work out my own technique, and there are huge strategic hangups for the entire site when your begin this. Of them are: Using jCrop and rMagick, it takes up a huge amount of processing ( to which I have backgrounded ). Because I have it backgrounded, I must by ajax develop a feature that auto-updates every five seconds to check when the backgrounding is done. Has anyone accomplished this with their sites? If so, what are some creative techniques you came across to keep the processing streamline, and the users happy?
