• WCF Manual SOAP POST using HttpWebRequest over https with Usertoken

  Hi, I'm writing a client that calls a number of WCF webservices (written externallyt to my company) that are very similar in structure. The design I was hoping to use is to manually build the SOAP message from XML chunks that are stored in a database and then processed through a generic web service handler class. I have access to the WSDL's for each webservice and example working XML. The design approach is such that we can easily add to the message dynamically, hence the reason for not using the auto generated proxy classes I am basically at the last part now with the entire SOAP message constructed but am getting a SOAP fault security error returned. I have used fiddler to compare the message I'm sending with one that is sent using the normal (far simpler...) WCF generated proxy classes and can't see any difference apart from the id attribute of the Usertoken element in the SOAP header. This is where my lack of experience in this area isn't helping. I think this is because the id is generated automatically (presumably because we're using https). My question is how do I generate this programatically? I have searched for hours online but the majority of solutions are either using the proxy classes or not over https. I have briefly looked at WCE but aware this is replaced by WCF now so don't want to waste time looking into this if it's not the solution. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I can post some code examples when I'm back in work if it will help but the method I'm using is very straightforward and only using XElements and such like at the moment (as we're using linq to sql). thanks, Andy

  Hi Guys, This is my first post here, and I'm new to NService Bus world. After play around for a couple days, and found that it's really powerful framework to creat service and easy to use. :) Now, I came across a small question. I created a project which uses NServiceBus, it got normal message handlers and Saga handlers. And also I created a couple tests around these with NServiceBus.Testing framework. It all works fine when I run the tests via ReSharper Test Runner works and NUnit console, they all works fine, but when I include them into NAnt build script, it throw the following exception: System.Reflection.ReflectionTypeLoadException : Unable to load one or more of the requested types. Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information. at System.Reflection.Module.GetTypesInternal(StackCrawlMark& stackMark) at System.Reflection.Assembly.GetTypes() at NServiceBus.Configure.<c_DisplayClass1.b__0(Assembly a) at System.Array.ForEach[T](T[] array, Action`1 action) at NServiceBus.Configure.With(Assembly[] assemblies) at NServiceBus.Configure.With(String probeDirectory) at NServiceBus.Configure.With() at NServiceBus.Testing.Test.Initialize() Any ideas? • Switching from ListView to VirtualStringTree

  Hey S.O! I am trying to build my projects with a VirtualStringTree rather than a Listview, because of the vast speed difference. The thing is, even after looking thru the demo's, I just can't figure out exactly how I would use it as a ListView. Like, adding, deleting, and basically just working with ListView items is so easy, but when I look at the VT, it gets almost too complicated. All I am looking for, is a VT that looks like a ListView, with subitems etc. Here are some routines using the ListView, that I would like to use with VT (This is just a pseudo example: procedure Add; begin with ListView.Items.Add do Begin Caption := EditCaption.Text; SubItems.Add(EditSubItem.Text): End; end; Procedure ReadItem(I : Integer); begin ShowMessage(ListView.Items[I].Caption); ShowMessage(ListView.Items[I].SubItems[0]); end; Of course, also the Delete function, but since thats like 1 line, I didnt bother :P Could anyone maybe translate the above examples into using a ListView style VT? • How can I line up WPF items in a Horizontal WrapPanel so they line up based on an arbitrary vertical

  I'm trying to create a View in WPF and having a hard time figuring out how to set it up. Here's what I'm trying to build: My ViewModel exposes an IEnumerable property called Items Each item is an event on a timeline, and each one implements ITimelineItem The ViewModel for each item has it's own DataTemplate to to display it I want to display all the items on the timeline connected by a line. I'm thinking a WrapPanel inside of a ListView would work well for this. However, the height of each item will vary depending on the information it displays. Some items will have graphic objects right on the line (like a circle or a diamond, or whatever), and some have annotations above or below the line. So it seems complicated to me. It seems that each item on the timeline has to render its own segment of the line. That's fine. But the distance between the top of the item to the line (and the bottom of the item to the line) could vary. If one item has the line 50 px down from the top and the next item has the line 100 px down from the top, then the first item needs 50 px of padding so that the line segments add up. I think I could solve that problem, however, we only need to add padding if these two items are on the same line in the WrapPanel! Let's say there are 5 items and only room on the screen for 3 across... the WrapPanel will put the other two on the next line. That's ok, but that means only the first 3 need to pad together, and the last 2 need to pad together. This is what's giving me a headache. Is there another approach I could look at?

  Hello everybody, I am looking into improving my programming skils (actually I try to do my best to suck less each year, as our Jeff Atwood put it), so I was thinking into reading stuff about metaprogramming and self explanatory code. I am looking for something like an idiot's guide to this (free books for download, online resources). Also I want more than your average wiki page and also something language agnostic or preferably with Java examples. Do you know of such resources that will allow to efficiently put all of it into practice (I know experience has a lot to say in all of this but i kind of want to build experience avoiding the flow bad decisions - experience - good decisions)? EDIT: Something of the likes of this example from the Pragmatic Programmer: ...implement a mini-language to control a simple drawing package... The language consists of single-letter commands. Some commands are followed by a single number. • Java: How to have an ArrayList as instance variable of an object?

  All, I'm working on a class project to build a little Connect4 game in Java. My current thinking is to have a class of Columns that have as instance variable a few integers (index, max. length, isFull?) and one ArrayList to receive both the integers above and the plays of each players (e.g., 1's and 0's standing for X's and O's). This is probably going to be split between 2 classes but the question remains the same. My current attempt looks like this: import java.util.ArrayList; public class Conn4Col { public int hMax; public int index; public final int initialSize = 0; public final int fullCol = 0; public ArrayList<Integer>; (...)} Unfortunately, this doesn't compile. The compiler says an is missing where my ArrayList declaration stands. We're just starting objects and we haven't really looked into other instance variables than the basic types. • Incompatibility between x86 and x64 in Installation solution

  Hello, I have installation solution that have installer project (not web installer but simple installer) that installs NT services, web service and web sites with help of additional two projects of dlls with my own code that performs my installation step. In user actions of installer project I call installer function of one of those projects, and this project calls to installer of second project: installer - MiddleCaller - InstallationCore. All this developing on Windows 7 and work fine when I compile all in 32 bit. The project must run on Windows 2008. Because of some reasons all must be in x64 bit. For this purpose, in MiddleCaller and InstallationCore I click right button of mouse on project - build - targer x64. For to move installer project to 64 bit in properties of installer (when project is active) I check: Target platform: x64. When I run installation on x86 I get error: The installation package is not supported by this processor type" And this is good, because now I know that my installation compiled in 64 bit, but when I run this on windows 2008 I get: Error 1001. Exception occured while initializing the instance: System.BadImageFormatException: could not load file or Assembly 'MiddleCaller, v...' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. Any one has some idea what I need to do for run fine the installation on x64? May be I still not moved the installer project to x64 bit, if yes, where I do this? Thank you for ahead.

  Hi, I use paperclip to add a file to my model. I want to use the new feature of firefox 3.6, xhr.sendAsBinary, to send a file with an ajax request. • maven and lift using scala 2.8 : lift-mapper missing?

  Newbie question since I'm not up to speed using maven at all. I'm trying to use scala + lift using scala 2.8, environment is a win7 box if that matters. • phonegap.js crashes android app

  I'm having this weird problem, where including the phonegap.js file in my project causes the app to crash on both the android emulator and my phone. I got the latest file from GitHub, so I can't see why this isn't working. This happens even if I try to build the sample project that's included in the PhoneGap download...   OK, not quite a Heisenbug but similar in nature. I'm developing a WPF application. When debugging, the logic reaches a certain point, then the application quits for no reason. VS debugger catches nothing and the only indication of a problem is the following in the output window: The program '[6228] SomeApp.vshost.exe: Managed (v4.0.30319)' has exited with code 1073741855 (0x4000001f). When debugging the release version, or indeed running the debug build out of the debugger (in fact all combos that aren't running the debug version in debugger), everything works fine. I'm trying to catch unhandled exceptions with the following code: AppDomain .CurrentDomain .UnhandledException += (sender, e) => { Debug.WriteLine("Unhandled Exception " + e.ExceptionObject); }; Application .Current .DispatcherUnhandledException += (sender1, e1) => { Debug.WriteLine("DispatcherUnhandledException " + e1.Exception); }; ...but I'm not catching anything. I'm considering peppering the app with debug output statements, but it's highly asynchronous so reading this will be both arduous and tedious. So tell me, if you can... how do I start figuring WTF is going on?

  I am getting the following error when attempting to build my project in Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition: *Task failed because “sgen.exe” was not found, or the correct Microsoft Windows SDK is not installed. The task is looking for “sgen.exe” in the “bin” subdirectory beneath the location specified in the InstallationFolder value of the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A. You may be able to solve the problem by doing one of the following: 1) Install the Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows Server 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5. 2) Install Visual Studio 2008. 3) Manually set the above registry key to the correct location. 4) Pass the correct location into the “ToolPath” parameter of the task.* I tried downloading Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows Server 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5, and still get the error. I also tried downloading the Windows 7 SDK and .NET Framework 3.5 and still same result. I also tried to manually editing the registry to change the InstallationFolder and I tried repairing the Visual Studio install. The project was originally created on WinXP and I am trying to compile on a reformatted machine running Windows 7 Enterprise.

  This is a vague, open question, so if you have no interest in these, please leave now. A few years ago it seemed everyone thought the death of desktop software was imminent. Web applications were the future. Everyone would move to cloud-based software-as-a-service systems, and developing applications for specific end-user platforms like Windows would soon become something of a ghetto. Joel's "How Microsoft Lost the API War" was but one of many such pieces sounding the death knell for this way of software development. Flash-forward to 2010, and the hype is all around mobile devices, particularly the iPhone. Software-as-a-Service vendors--even small ones such as YCombinator startups--go out of their way to build custom applications for the iPhone and other smart phone devices; applications that can be quite sophisticated, that run only on specific hardware and software architectures and are thus inherently incompatible. Now some of you are probably thinking, "Well, only the decline of desktop software was predicted; mobile devices aren't desktops." But the term was used by those predicting its demise to mean laptops also, and really any platform capable of running a browser. What was promised was a world where HTML and related standards would supplant native applications and their inherent difficulties. We would all code to the browser, not the OS. But here we are in 2010 with the AppStore bulging and development for the iPad just revving up. A few days ago, I saw someone on Hacker News claim that the future of computing was entirely in small, portable devices. Apparently the future is underpowered, requires dexterous thumbs and induces near-sightedness. How do those who so vehemently asserted one thing now assert the opposite with equal vehemence, without making even the slightest admission of error? And further, how are we as developers supposed to sift through all of this? I bought into the whole web-standards utopianism that was in vogue back in '06-'07 and now feel like it was a mistake. Is there some formula one can apply rather than a mere appeal to experience?

  I'm having some trouble using nHibernate, automapping and a class structure using multiple chains of abstract classes It's something akin to this public abstract class AbstractClassA {} public abstract class AbstractClassB : AbstractClassA {} public class ClassA : AbstractClassB {} When I attempt to build these mappings, I receive the following error "FluentNHibernate.Cfg.FluentConfigurationException was unhandled Message: An invalid or incomplete configuration was used while creating a SessionFactory. Check PotentialReasons collection, and InnerException for more detail. Database was not configured through Database method." However, if I remove the abstract keyword from AbstractClassB, everything works fine. The problem only occurs when I have more than one abstract class in the class hierarchy. I've manually configured the automapping to include both AbstractClassA and AbstractClassB using the following binding class public class BindItemBases : IManualBinding { public void Bind(FluentNHibernate.Automapping.AutoPersistenceModel model) { model.IncludeBase<AbstractClassA>(); model.IncludeBase<AbstractClassB>(); } } I've had to do a bit of hackery to get around this, but there must be a better way to get this working. Surely nHibernate supports something like this, I just haven't figured out how to configure it right. Cheers, James

• What GUI tool can I use for building applications that interact with multiple APIs?

  My company uses a lot of different web services on daily bases. I find that I repeat same steps over and over again on daily bases. For example, when I start a new project, I perform the following actions: Create a new client & project in Liquid Planner. Create a new client Freshbooks Create a project in Github or Codebasehq Developers to Codebasehq or Github who are going to be working on this project Create tasks in Ticketing system on Codebasehq and tasks in Liquid Planner This is just when starting new projects. When I have to track tasks, it gets even trickier because I have to monitor tasks in 2 different systems. So my question is, is there a tool that I can use to create a web service that will automate some of these interactions? Ideally, it would be something that would allow me to graphically work with the web service API and produce an executable that I can run on a server. I don't want to build it from scratch. I know, I can do it with Python or RoR, but I don't want to get that low level. I would like to add my sources and pass data around from one service to another. What could I use? Any suggestions?

• WinForms DataGridView - update database

  I know this is a basic function of the DataGridView, but for some reason, I just can't get it to work. I just want the DataGridView on my Windows form to submit any changes made to it to the database when the user clicks the "Save" button. Now ruleTableDA.Update(dt) is throwing the exception "Concurrency violation: the UpdateCommand affected 0 of the expected 1 records."

• Structuring projects & dependencies of large winforms applications in C#

  UPDATE: This is one of my most-visited questions, and yet I still haven't really found a satisfactory solution for my project. One idea I read in an answer to another question is to create a tool which can build solutions 'on the fly' for projects that you pick from a list. I have yet to try that though. How do you structure a very large application? Multiple smallish projects/assemblies in one big solution? A few big projects? One solution per project? And how do you manage dependencies in the case where you don't have one solution. Note: I'm looking for advice based on experience, not answers you found on Google (I can do that myself). I'm currently working on an application which has upward of 80 dlls, each in its own solution. Managing the dependencies is almost a full time job. There is a custom in-house 'source control' with added functionality for copying dependency dlls all over the place. Seems like a sub-optimum solution to me, but is there a better way? Working on a solution with 80 projects would be pretty rough in practice, I fear. (Context: winforms, not web) EDIT: (If you think this is a different question, leave me a comment) It seems to me that there are interdependencies between: Project/Solution structure for an application Folder/File structure Branch structure for source control (if you use branching) But I have great difficulty separating these out to consider them individually, if that is even possible.   I am trying to use the library Curses:UI from http://search.cpan.org/dist/Curses-UI/ to build a UI on linux karmic. Once this message comes a popup will be displayed. Attempt: my $ui = new Curses::UI(-color_support=1,-clear_on_exit=1,-intellidraw=1); my $window = $ui-add('window', 'Window',intellidraw=1); my $message = $window-add(-text="Hello!",-intellidraw=1); pseudocode while(true) #implemented a function to wait { popup($window-text("Hello how are you?")); } $window-focus(); $ui-mainloop(); Problem: The above does not work. I am given a dark screen where my message is displayed. I have read the documentation and when I relocate : $ui-mainloop() above the while loop I am given the user interface but now nothing communicates to the window. Coincise Question: I need some way of displaying the user interface wait for inputs and display messages. Could anyone please help me on this? Thank you!
