  • Can't set default value of string property to "" in the Xcode CoreData model designer

    - by glenc
I have an entity in my datamodel with a string property that is currently optional, and I'd like to convert this property to a required property with a default value of the empty string. As others have discovered, leaving the default value blank results in validation errors (since the designer interprets this as NULL), but trying '', "", or @"" as the default value results in those literal characters being interpreted as the default, rather than the empty zero-length string, as desired. I did find this thread on Google, however, apart from the solution being really ugly (model definition split between the .xcdatamodel and objc source), it also doesn't work for lightweight migrations because those migrations are done solely based on the .xcdatamodel files and the objc logic from your entity implementations isn't loaded. Is there any way to achieve this in the data model designer?

  • TempData and ViewData not rendering in a deployed ASP MVC app

    - by ojcar
I use TempData and ViewData to display messages for an asp mvc application. They are part of the Site Master. For some reason, neither TempData or ViewData are showing any information. They do work as expected in the development environment but not in production. Any ideas of what setting I need to be looking at? The code is like this: <% if (TempData["errorMsg"] != null) { %> <h2><%= TempData["errorMsg"]%></h2> <% } %>

  • Confusion about MVC Routes

    - by yang
What is the problem below? routes.MapRoute( "Default2", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "test" } // Parameter defaults ); routes.MapRoute( "Default1", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{name}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Report", name = "" } // Parameter defaults ); When I navigate to /home/index "id" parameter takes the default value of "test" but when I navigate to home/report the name parameter is null. In short, if the route definition is the first in the route table, then the parameter takes its default value. But the others below don't.

  • Is POSTing a Dictionary to an .NET MVC action possible?

    - by Brenton Alker
I have a form which contains a series of fields like: <input type="text" name="User[123]" value="Alice" /> <input type="text" name="User[456]" value="Bob" /> ... Where the index of the User array (123 and 456) are ID's associated with the value. I'm trying to update these values in the controller. My thinking is that a Dictionary that maps ID to name would work, but creating the action like: public void Save(Dictionary<string, string> user) { // ... } results in the user parameter being null. So, is passing a Dictionary possible? or, is there another method to achieve this?

  • T-SQL Re-Assigning Order Numbering

    - by Meltdown
Say I have a table with a field called "ordernum" that denotes the order of a given set of rows. Now imagine that I delete one of these rows. What type of query would work best for re-assigning the order numbers so that they remain sequential? Here's an example: id group_id name ordernum active --------------------------------------------------- 0_____0______'Name1'___5__true 1_____0______'Name2'___4__true 2_____0______'Name3'___3__true 3_____1______'Name4'___2__true 4_____1______'Name5'__1__true 5_____1______'Name6'__NULL___false Now if I deleted the column with id='4' how would I reset the values in the 'ordernum' field for that specific group? Is this even possible? Or if I added a new row. (The first time the rows are created they are sorted by date, but then the user has the option to set the order himself.) In my table design I have a column 'active' boolean. If 'active' is set to false, then 'ordernum' is set to NULL. Otherwise it should be given an order number.

  • Access objects in button event handler

    - by developer
How to access list of observable collection objects that I create in my constructor to bind to the UI, in the Save button event handler. I have created a observable collection of objects in my constructor and then I bind that in the UI. Now how will I access those objects, as I want to save them in the database. I tried doing ProgramViewModel newtest = DataContext as ProgramViewModel; But newtest is always null. Though I can see the data in when I hover my mouse over DataContext while debugging..

  • iPhone OSStatus -25308 or errSecInteractionNotAllowed SFHFKeychainUtils

    - by George Octavio
Hi again guys. I'm trying to access my iPhone's device keychain. I want to access in order to create a simple user-password value intended for a log in function. This is the code I'm using from SFHFKeychainUtils NSArray *keys = [[[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects: (NSString *) kSecClass, kSecAttrService, kSecAttrLabel, kSecAttrAccount, kSecValueData, nil] autorelease]; NSArray *objects = [[[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects: (NSString *) kSecClassGenericPassword, serviceName, serviceName, @"TestUser", @"TestPass", nil] autorelease]; NSDictionary *query = [[[NSDictionary alloc] initWithObjects: objects forKeys: keys] autorelease]; OSStatus status = SecItemAdd((CFDictionaryRef) query, NULL); } else if (status != noErr) { //Output to screen with error code goes here return NO; } return YES; } The error code I'm getting is OSStatus-25308 or errSecInteractionNotAllowed. I'm guessing this means I don't actually have access to my iPhone's keychain? Is there a way to allow access? Thanks for your time.

  • DataTemplate defautl visibility for ContentControls

    - by bitbonk
In my MVVM based WPF application I have a lot of different ViewModel types that dynamically loaded into ContentControls or ContentPresenters. Therefor I need to explictly set what DataTemplate is to be used in XAML: <ContentControl Content={Binding SomePropertyOfTypeViewModel} ContentTemplate={StaticResource someTemplate} /> Now my problem is that the content control is displaying the UI of someTemplate even if the ContentControl is bound to nothing (i.e ViewModel.SomePropertyOfTypeViewModel is null) Is there a quick and easy way to make all ContentControls display nothing if they are currently bound to nothing? When I use implicit DataTemplates everything works as expected. Unfortunately I can't use this mechanism here.

  • When is a Seek not a Seek?

    - by Paul White
The following script creates a single-column clustered table containing the integers from 1 to 1,000 inclusive. IF OBJECT_ID(N'tempdb..#Test', N'U') IS NOT NULL DROP TABLE #Test ; GO CREATE TABLE #Test ( id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ); ; INSERT #Test (id) SELECT V.number FROM master.dbo.spt_values AS V WHERE V.[type] = N'P' AND V.number BETWEEN 1 AND 1000 ; Let’s say we need to find the rows with values from 100 to 170, excluding any values that divide exactly by 10.  One way to write that query would be: SELECT T.id FROM #Test AS T WHERE T.id IN ( 101,102,103,104,105,106,107,108,109, 111,112,113,114,115,116,117,118,119, 121,122,123,124,125,126,127,128,129, 131,132,133,134,135,136,137,138,139, 141,142,143,144,145,146,147,148,149, 151,152,153,154,155,156,157,158,159, 161,162,163,164,165,166,167,168,169 ) ; That query produces a pretty efficient-looking query plan: Knowing that the source column is defined as an INTEGER, we could also express the query this way: SELECT T.id FROM #Test AS T WHERE T.id >= 101 AND T.id <= 169 AND T.id % 10 > 0 ; We get a similar-looking plan: If you look closely, you might notice that the line connecting the two icons is a little thinner than before.  The first query is estimated to produce 61.9167 rows – very close to the 63 rows we know the query will return.  The second query presents a tougher challenge for SQL Server because it doesn’t know how to predict the selectivity of the modulo expression (T.id % 10 > 0).  Without that last line, the second query is estimated to produce 68.1667 rows – a slight overestimate.  Adding the opaque modulo expression results in SQL Server guessing at the selectivity.  As you may know, the selectivity guess for a greater-than operation is 30%, so the final estimate is 30% of 68.1667, which comes to 20.45 rows. The second difference is that the Clustered Index Seek is costed at 99% of the estimated total for the statement.  For some reason, the final SELECT operator is assigned a small cost of 0.0000484 units; I have absolutely no idea why this is so, or what it models.  Nevertheless, we can compare the total cost for both queries: the first one comes in at 0.0033501 units, and the second at 0.0034054.  The important point is that the second query is costed very slightly higher than the first, even though it is expected to produce many fewer rows (20.45 versus 61.9167). If you run the two queries, they produce exactly the same results, and both complete so quickly that it is impossible to measure CPU usage for a single execution.  We can, however, compare the I/O statistics for a single run by running the queries with STATISTICS IO ON: Table '#Test'. Scan count 63, logical reads 126, physical reads 0. Table '#Test'. Scan count 01, logical reads 002, physical reads 0. The query with the IN list uses 126 logical reads (and has a ‘scan count’ of 63), while the second query form completes with just 2 logical reads (and a ‘scan count’ of 1).  It is no coincidence that 126 = 63 * 2, by the way.  It is almost as if the first query is doing 63 seeks, compared to one for the second query. In fact, that is exactly what it is doing.  There is no indication of this in the graphical plan, or the tool-tip that appears when you hover your mouse over the Clustered Index Seek icon.  To see the 63 seek operations, you have click on the Seek icon and look in the Properties window (press F4, or right-click and choose from the menu): The Seek Predicates list shows a total of 63 seek operations – one for each of the values from the IN list contained in the first query.  I have expanded the first seek node to show the details; it is seeking down the clustered index to find the entry with the value 101.  Each of the other 62 nodes expands similarly, and the same information is contained (even more verbosely) in the XML form of the plan. Each of the 63 seek operations starts at the root of the clustered index B-tree and navigates down to the leaf page that contains the sought key value.  Our table is just large enough to need a separate root page, so each seek incurs 2 logical reads (one for the root, and one for the leaf).  We can see the index depth using the INDEXPROPERTY function, or by using the a DMV: SELECT S.index_type_desc, S.index_depth FROM sys.dm_db_index_physical_stats ( DB_ID(N'tempdb'), OBJECT_ID(N'tempdb..#Test', N'U'), 1, 1, DEFAULT ) AS S ; Let’s look now at the Properties window when the Clustered Index Seek from the second query is selected: There is just one seek operation, which starts at the root of the index and navigates the B-tree looking for the first key that matches the Start range condition (id >= 101).  It then continues to read records at the leaf level of the index (following links between leaf-level pages if necessary) until it finds a row that does not meet the End range condition (id <= 169).  Every row that meets the seek range condition is also tested against the Residual Predicate highlighted above (id % 10 > 0), and is only returned if it matches that as well. You will not be surprised that the single seek (with a range scan and residual predicate) is much more efficient than 63 singleton seeks.  It is not 63 times more efficient (as the logical reads comparison would suggest), but it is around three times faster.  Let’s run both query forms 10,000 times and measure the elapsed time: DECLARE @i INTEGER, @n INTEGER = 10000, @s DATETIME = GETDATE() ; SET NOCOUNT ON; SET STATISTICS XML OFF; ; WHILE @n > 0 BEGIN SELECT @i = T.id FROM #Test AS T WHERE T.id IN ( 101,102,103,104,105,106,107,108,109, 111,112,113,114,115,116,117,118,119, 121,122,123,124,125,126,127,128,129, 131,132,133,134,135,136,137,138,139, 141,142,143,144,145,146,147,148,149, 151,152,153,154,155,156,157,158,159, 161,162,163,164,165,166,167,168,169 ) ; SET @n -= 1; END ; PRINT DATEDIFF(MILLISECOND, @s, GETDATE()) ; GO DECLARE @i INTEGER, @n INTEGER = 10000, @s DATETIME = GETDATE() ; SET NOCOUNT ON ; WHILE @n > 0 BEGIN SELECT @i = T.id FROM #Test AS T WHERE T.id >= 101 AND T.id <= 169 AND T.id % 10 > 0 ; SET @n -= 1; END ; PRINT DATEDIFF(MILLISECOND, @s, GETDATE()) ; On my laptop, running SQL Server 2008 build 4272 (SP2 CU2), the IN form of the query takes around 830ms and the range query about 300ms.  The main point of this post is not performance, however – it is meant as an introduction to the next few parts in this mini-series that will continue to explore scans and seeks in detail. When is a seek not a seek?  When it is 63 seeks © Paul White 2011 email: [email protected] twitter: @SQL_kiwi

  • How to write a virtual conditional breakpoint in java

    - by Phuong Nguyen de ManCity fan
    I'm sorry if the question title may mis-inform you, but I cannot find a proper word to explain that. If you ever working with .NET, you would know that there is Assert class that will automatically wake up and attach debugger if necessary and then have debugger (Visual Studio) pausing at the Assert command, given the Assert command failed. Given I'm running a java program and having debugger connected, then how can I have debugger to break on certain condition without manually setup a break point? I'm expecting something like that: void doSomeThing(String x){ if (x==null) breakDebuggerNow(); }

  • Storing links to internal content pages in ASP.NET MVC

    - by mare
I'm using a route like this routes.MapRoute( "PageBySlug", RouteType.Regular, "{slug}", new {controller = "Page", action = "Display", slug = "Default"}, null ); to map request to ~/Some-Page-Slug to ~/Page/Display/Some-Page-Slug. When adding content, user can choose to link to existing pages to create references and I then store those links in this format in the datastore: "/Some-Page-Slug". When I run the app in Cassini and pull the link out from datastore and attach it to A tag it looks like this http://localhost:93229/Some-Page-Slug and this link works. But when running the application in virtual directory under some website in IIS, the attached link generates this URL http://localhost/Some-Page-Slug, when it should be http://localhost/virtualdir/Some-Page-Slug. Of course, this generates 404 error. How can I solve this to be universally useful and working under all circumstances? Should I store it differently in the database or should I transform it into correct form in my Views at runtime and how to do that?

Hi, I am new to EJB 3 . I use the following code to start endless EJB 3 timer then deploying it on JBOSS 4.2.3 @Stateless public class SimpleBean implements SimpleBeanRemote,TimerService { @Resource TimerService timerService; private Timer timer ; @Timeout public void timeout(Timer timer) { System.out.println("Hello EJB"); } } then calling it timer = timerService.createTimer(10, 5000, null); It works well. I created a client class that calls a method that creates the timer and a method that is called when the timer times out. I forget to call cancel then it does not stop .redeploy with cancel call never stop it. restart Jboss 4.2.3 never stop it. How I can stop EJB timer ? Thanks for helping.

  • SQL for selecting only the last item from a versioned table

    - by Jeremy
I have a table with the following structure: CREATE TABLE items ( id serial not null, title character varying(255), version_id integer DEFAULT 1, parent_id integer, CONSTRAINT items_pkey PRIMARY KEY (id) ) So the table contains rows that looks as so: id: 1, title: "Version 1", version_id: 1, parent_id: 1 id: 2, title: "Version 2", version_id: 2, parent_id: 1 id: 3, title: "Completely different record", version_id: 1, parent_id: 3 This is the SQL code I've got for selecting out all of the records with the most recent version ids: select * from items inner join ( select parent_id, max(version_id) as version_id from items group by parent_id) as vi on items.version_id = vi.version_id and items.parent_id = vi.parent_id Is there a way to write that SQL statement so that it doesn't use a subselect?

  • What is the C# equivalent of java.util.regex?

    - by peter.murray.rust
I am converting Java code to C# and need to replace the use of Java's regex. A typical use is import java.util.regex.Matcher; import java.util.regex.Pattern; //... String myString = "B12"; Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile("[A-Za-z](\\d+)"); Matcher matcher = Pattern.matcher(myString); String serial = (matcher.matches()) ? matcher.group(1) : null; which should extract a capture group from a matched target string. I'd be grateful for simple examples. EDIT: I have now added the C# equivalent of the code as an answer. EDIT: Here is a tutorial on the use of the actual expressions. EDIT: Here is a useful comparison of C# and Java (and Perl.)

  • How to structure controller to sort multiple criteria asp.net mvc

    - by Solomon
Hi, What's the best way to set up a controller to sort by many (possibly null) criteria? Say for example, I was building a site that sold cars. My CarController has a function Index() which returns an IList of cars to the view, and details on each car are rendered with a partial view. What's the best way to structure this? Especially if there are a lot of criteria: Car Type (aka SUV), Car Brand, Car Model, Car Year, Car Price, Car Color, bool IsNew, or if I want to sort by closest to me etc... I'm using NHibernate as my ORM. Should I have just a ton of possible NHibernate queries and figure out which one to choose based on if/then's in the controller? Or is there a simpler way. Thanks so much for the help.

I am using Struts 2.1.8 and facing validation problem in IE. I am getting the following error An exception occurred: Error. Error message: Invalid argument. I tried out to figure out the cause and found the following. My generated javascript code is: field = form.elements['district.name']; var error = "Enter only alphabets for district"; if (continueValidation && field.value != null && !field.value.match("^[a-zA-Z ]*$")) { addError(field, error); errors = true; } I tried to mock up by putting the same code in a function and calling it in onclick event. The method addError() throws the exception and the reason is field variable. If I change it to field[0], it works fine. How to fix this error?

  • SQL ConnectionString in web.config and global.asax implications

    - by rlb.usa
This is going to sound very odd, but I have a web.config like this: <connectionStrings> <remove name="LocalSqlServer"/> <add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=BACKUPDB;..." providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> </connectionStrings> And a global.asax like this: void Session_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { // Code that runs when a new session is started if (Application["con"] == null || Application["con"] == "") { Application["con"] = "Data Source=PRODUCTIONDB;..."; } } And EVERYWHERE in my code, I reference my ConnectionStrings like this: SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(Convert.ToString(HttpContext.Current.Application["con"])); However, I see that everything I do inside this application goes to BACKUP db instead of PRODUCTIONDB. What is going on, how could this happen, and why? It doesn't make any sense to me, and it got me into a lot of trouble. We use LocalSqlServer string for FormsAuthentication.
